Chapter One
Prolog
"You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?" a voice greeted me as I opened my eyes. It was a female with black hair sitting on a chair. She was wearing a white dress and looked to be no order than 16. Her bright blue eyes staired straight at me. There seemed to be aura of holiness radiating off of her.
"Where am I" I thought, "This isn't my hooch in the field," My thoughts seemed to continue.
"Well to answer your first question you are in the afterlife. Seems you died in a LMTV roll over. The private who was driving had swerved to not hit a squirrel and lost control. You were the only one to die."
"I'm dead?"
"Well yea, that's what I was just saying. Now you have three choices. Option 1 go to heaven, which is totally overrated. Super boring and not a whole lot to do. Option 2 is to be reincarnated in the United States. No guarantees you will be a male though and lastly, you have the best option of all. You can go to another world and kill a demon king! Adventure awaits you, service to something bigger than yourself and most importantly you may just find the love of your life there!"
"That last option sounds ni…"
"Great so you'll take it? Great. We recently just sent one of our own the goddess Aqua to that world with someone. Yo.."
"I said it sounded nice, but you fail to realize few things. One, I served something more than myself. I mean look at me I am still in my combat fatigues!" I shouted at her as I pointed to the OCP camouflage combat uniform I was wearing still. My helmet I was forced to always wear inside a tactical vehicle was missing and in its place was my Patrol Cap with my dual Black bars connected with two lines. The rank of a Captain. This rank had been perfectly sewn onto my hat by a tailor.
"So?"
"SO? So not only did I serve something greater than myself, but I had met the love of my life. I had a wife and a kid in my old life. A wonderful son who will now grow up without a father!"
"Ok… I can see where you are coming from but please listen. We have been sending shut in anti-social neets to this world for a while. It has not made a difference so this time we figured why not try to send a someone who is used to a real war. The idea was how about a Captain who has commanded soldiers and knows how to fight a war. So, when you died you were picked. I can offer you this thing though, if you go to this world, I promise you your son will become a great person."
"You promise my family will be okay without me? That they are going to turn out alright? You give me your word?"
"Yes, I the goddess Libertas swear to you that your family will live successful lives and no miss fortune will come to them."
"Okay what do I get when I win this war? Do I get to go home to my family?"
The goddess looked at me and said, "Sadly no, the God in charge of all the gods has stated we can not return anyone to life on Earth. However, you will get to live a long time. I would say at least to the age of 120 if not longer. Assuming it is natural causes and not something else."
With a heavy sigh I spoke, "Okay I'll do it."
"You will great! Now to make up for this you can take one thing with you. Can be anyone or anything you can think of that is either recently dead or any item you can dream up! You want the master sword from the Legend of Zelda? We got that! You want the hammer of Sigmar from Warhammer fantasy we got that too. Look we even got something called a lasgun! Just take a look at all these!" She shouted as she threw a bunch of papers at me.
I quickly grabbed them and began to sort through my options. There was defiantly a lot of options to choose from. However, given that I had a war in store for me I knew I was going to have to read over each and every option they presented to me. So, I began to sort my options. Weapons went in one stack, defense in another, transportation in one and finally people in the last. I looked over the weapons and narrowed it down to three options.
Option 1: A Lasgun from Warhammer 40,000. It was supposed to simple enough to use and so rugged it would never need any replacement parts. Its magazine could recharge via sun light or in a pinch a fire. However, given I had never handled one before I would not easily be able to clean or disassemble it. Still for firepower it was worth considering. It would quickly allow me to acquire the resources I needed.
Option 2: A M-4 with roughly 10,000 rounds of ammo. While that was most defiantly a lot of ammo. I also knew that it was going to take 18 rounds to zero it, and then after that I would occasionally have to rezero the weapon. This combined with combat would quickly go through my ammunition. However, it made the finalist list of weapons due to my familiarity with it.
Option 3: The master sword from legend of Zelda. A weapon that never dulled, could not break and was bane of evil was worth considering since I was going to fight an actual daemon. Drawback of course was I was not trained with a sword.
Defense was the next category that I had sorted things into. Here I found Two options I really liked.
The first option was the tried and tested armor of knights of old. A steel armor set with a layer of gambeson would protect me for sure. However, maneuverability was a concern since it could restrict my shoulder range of motion.
Option 2: Modern body armor made of Kevlar with plates. This would be more than a match for swords and bows. The Level 4 plates alone would be more than a match for a sword. Add in the soft and armor and yup.
However, this armor would leave me legs exposed and for arms.
Transportation only had one thing in it. A horse… for some reason I do not know why I expected to find more than that.
People was a simple list of instructions. It had to be someone else from Earth. Had to of died recently of in a coma they were not going to wake up from.
That last part interested me greatly. My best friend had been in a coma for the last 3 years. One of his students in his chemistry class had mixed the wrong chemicals together and created a chemical weapon of some kind. He threw the students out of the room and got himself out when he saw a student laying on the ground through the window. The man had run straight back into the classroom to save the person but sadly was unable to get out in time to save himself.
"Libertas?"
"Yes?" she said as she was reading a book.
"I know what I want to take. I want my best friend, John."
"Is he in a coma or dead?"
I let a small frown come to my lips and solemnly I spoke, "Yea, yea he is. He has been in a coma for the last 2 years. No hope of waking up."
"Then in that case why not?" she said as she snapped her fingers.
I looked to my left and there stood the man who had stood by me in my wedding. My best friend John Williams PHD. He looked better than the last time I saw him. Gone was the shell of a body with its muscle deteriorated from lack of use. He looked like he did before his accident in class. Sadly, though he was still wearing a hospital gown for some reason. Then again, I was wearing my fatigues, so I do not know what I expect.
"You have met with a terrible fate John Williams," said Libertas, "Your friend will here also met with a terrible fate and has chosen you to go with him to this new world."
"New world? Last, I remember I was running into the classroom to save a student. Where am I? Who are you?
"My name is the goddess Libertas. I watch over the United States. As for where you are. Well, you happened to be in a coma you were never going to wake up from. So, your friend will here chose you to go with him to this new world. Sadly, However, I can not offer you magic items or anyone person like him. What I will do is give you enough gold to live on for 14 days in that world if you are careful. So will you go with him?"
"John, I know this is asking a lot. I know you probably want to go to heaven but please I need you to go with me," I begged him.
John gave me one look, smiled and said, "Will, I would never let you go to some world by yourself. For all I know you would end up lost and cry yourself to sleep every night," he then turned to Libertas, "I will go but I want a little more money. Just enough to buy me some clothes so I am not wearing a hospital gown and a weapon."
"If you are okay with having clothes that are just that and a simple iron sword, I can give you a little extra from my personal account John," Libertas stated.
"Well then, when do we start?"
"Right now," Libertas stated as John and I were surrounded by a light and started to rise to the top. As we slowly made our way to the top Libertas gave one final farewell, "Heroes! I pray for your success as two candidates of many who will bring low the demon king. Now-hie you hence!"
Aaaaannnnndddddd that is a wrap for, So you've met with a terrible fate chapter 1. I am looking to make a chapter maybe once a week to once every two weeks. This is mostly scratch my Konosuba itch I have. I only have two books left then I am all caught up, so I need to read a story in this world. So I decided to write my own. Yes, I am loosely basing this person off of me but do not intend to make this a wank fest nor do I have any idea where this is going to go. I will probably follow the story line, but it will not be an exact copy and paste. Just general plot line. Have not decided if we will join the party or make one of our own and run into their party a lot. Both have good options. Let me know what ya'll think in the comments. Lastly, going to increase the age of everyone by about 4 years. Just would have a hard time seeing a Captain in the US army who is usually about 26 years old or older running around with a 13-year-old kid. 17 is plausible as there are soldiers that age in the army. Guess ill also being doing the character thing as well. See below:
William Pan-
Age: 26
Job: Captain in the US Army.
Died in a roll over because a private swerved to save a squirrel.
John Williams-
Age: 32
Job: Chemistry Professor
Was in a coma from saving a kid. Will took him without asking to another World.
Goddess Libertas-
Age: Unknown
Job: The goddess of Liberty.
