Who Wants to Live Forever

A/N: While I'm not certain, but I would think as the Fifth Spirit that Elsa would be immortal. It reminded me of the song, "Who Wants to Live Forever" by Queen. I would think that Elsa would be greatly affected by this, especially it's effect on her relationship with Anna.

When she first found out that she was the fifth spirit of the Enchanted Forest, Elsa felt a sense of pride. She had finally found her place in the world. As protector of the Enchanted Forest, she took her role very seriously. Over the years, however, the most tragic part about her role became more and more apparent: her immortality. As the fifth spirit, she would not die a natural death like everyone else. Elsa would watch as people grew older and eventually died. Through the years she had seen her sister Anna reign strongly as Queen. She watched with pride as she raised three children: two boys and a girl. The years were long and happy, and Elsa was glad to be a part of them. But as Anna, Kristoff, and everyone else she cared for grew older, she knew that that it would all be over, one day. When Anna was eighty years old, Elsa didn't look a day over twenty-five. It saddened her to see her beloved sister with white hair, wrinkles, and a frail old body. The same could be said for Kristoff, who also looked drastically different from when she first met him. Still, Elsa spent all the time she could with them. On the day that Anna died, Elsa was devastated. She attended the funeral with the rest of her family and friends. Standing before her gravestone, Elsa shed many tears. Those days of laughter and happiness were gone. They were only memories now. Any visits she paid to Anna after this, would be to her grave. It wasn't long until Kristoff passed away too. Many years down the road from that, Elsa's nephews and nieces passed too. Though she cherished her great nephews and nieces, she couldn't help but long for the people in the past. Her family, the Northuldra people that she had been so close with, everybody was gone. The worst part about it all was that she would never see them again. She would never be reunited with the sister she loved so much. There wouldn't be an eternity in heaven with her. For here she remained on Earth as the fifth spirit, forever protecting the Enchanted Forest.

As she stood in the waters on the shore, Elsa thought about her own immortality. To say that it was a curse, would be an understatement. All around her, were the other four spirits of the forest. Gale did his best to comfort her by blowing alongside her face. Behind her, the earth giants stood proudly. Bruni rested on Elsa's shoulder, doing his best to remain positive for Elsa's sake. The Nokk stood in front of her, waiting to be mounted if Elsa chose to do so. Instead, the former Queen of Arendelle looked at her reflection in the water. The youthful face stared hungrily back at her, as if it was mocking her. Everything about her body was young and beautiful. There wasn't a single wrinkle on her face, her hair was just as blonde as it was when she was born, her sapphire blue eyes still retained the deepness they always did.

Elsa looked at the other spirits, thinking about how they must feel about it all.

"There's no time for us," Elsa said. "It's all decided for us."

As the sun rose in the sky, Elsa basked in its light. Her immortality would always be a part of her. She learned a long time ago that she should accept who she was. For generations to come, she would be the Fifth Spirit. The result of her mother saving her father's life. Love had always been a big part of Elsa's life. It was the love for Anna that strengthened her resolve, it was love from her mother to her father in which she was blessed as the Fifth Spirit. And for the rest of time, it would be love that guided her.

Looking out at the horizon, through a veil of tears, Elsa smiled.

"Forever is our today."
