The story bellow, its a three parts story, based in both an episode of season 11 name 'The Accident' and one of my favorite stories by the author Joyfully-Fascinating.

For the episode part, i had to change a few things to accomodate with the story, but let just say, i´m glad it didn´t happened in the real show.

Hope you enjoy it.

Ruth Green, thanks for the help.

ACT 1

When the strangest day in Toronto started, it started like any other day. On his lunchbreak, Constable George Crabtree decided to join both detectives for a walk, in order to discuss the last case, when he spotted his sweetheart, Nina Bloom, coming from the other side of the road.

They smiled at each other and she hurried her step. Nina approached the three men and gave George a kiss, not caring if she was just a burlesque dancer kissing a policeman, then she composed herself and smiled to the other two men.

''Detectives, how are you?'' she asked politely.

''Miss Bloom, nice to see you.'' Both Murdoch and Watts greet her nicely.

''Ah… Sirs, you excuse me, may I have a word alone with Miss Bloom?'' asked George, embarrassed.

''Sure George, meet us at the café,'' Murdoch replied and left with Watts.

''So…'' Nina started as the men left. ''You will going to see me tonight?'' she asked George.

''Sure, why not? I will never miss your performances,'' he laughed.

''I promise this one will be special.'' Nina joined the laugh.

Meanwhile, at the other end of the street, Mr. Dilbert, the city clerk, was making his way to the police station, when he saw the detectives walking toward the café. He smiled, as it was his chance to tell two policemen about the fraud he found in the city contract.

Around the same time, a motor vehicle and a bus tour were coming in opposite directions from one another, while a mother was about to cross the street with a baby stroller and didn´t noticed both vehicles coming.

''Look Out!'' In spite of his determination to talk with the detectives, Mr. Dilbert wasn´t distracted enough to not notice that the woman was about to be killed and yelled at her.

That yell of course, called the detectives' attention, and wanting to prevent a tragedy, Detective Murdoch hurried up to pull Mr. Dilbert out of the way. Unfortunately, he was the one hit and smashed between the car and the bus.

''What the…'' George yelled. Not far away from there, Nina and George were interrupted by the sound of yells and crashes, and without further questions, rushed to see what was going on.

''Oh God!'' Nina sobbed, placing a hand over her mouth.

''No, Sir!'' Upon seeing his superior pinned between the car and the bus, George panicked and rushed to him.

''I´m all right George.'' William assured, trying to hide his pain from his friend.

It was a chaotic scene to say the least. The bus owner left his vehicle and started to yell to the owner of the car for getting on his way, while the owner of the fruit stand yelled at them both for ruining his merchandise.

Meanwhile, Detective Watts tried to help the mother, only to find out there wasn´t any baby in the stroller and near the crash. Mr. Dilbert stood in shock, holding the detective´s hat in his hand, while looking at the man crushed between the two vehicles.

''Oh dear… Detective, Why did you do that?'' Mr. Dilbert came back to his senses and rushed to the detective.

''I was just… accomplishing my duty, Mr. Dilbert,'' Murdoch told him.

''Hey you!'' Watts exclaimed pointing to Mr. Dilbert. ''I´m Detective Watts and I saw you walking toward us when the accident happened. What did you want?''

''Its doesn´t matters now, Detective. What we need to do now is get your friend our of here,'' Mr. Dilbert argued.

''He´s right Watts…'' Murdoch breathed heavily. ''George, go help Det. Watts find out what caused the accident.''

''But Sir…''

''Don´t worry about me, go!'' he ordered and reluctantly, George did.

''Detective…'' Mr. Dilbert started uneasy. ''What can I do to help?''

''Mr. Dilbert… could you please… call my wife at the hospital? Her name is Julia Ogden…'' William said. ''And my Inspector as well… Thomas Brackenreid…''

''Yes, of course!'' Mr. Dilbert exclaimed and rushed to the café to make phone calls.

In the meantime, Nina Bloom, who was still standing next the detective, noticed that the older man was getting pale, despite repeating that he wasn´t in pain. This way, even without permission, she placed a hand on his forehead and frowned.

''You are sweating cold,'' she said ''Its not…'' she decided to stop middle sentence.

''How you know, Miss Bloom?''

''I saw it before, at the Star Room, one of my friends was sweating cold and she collapsed,'' she said and in response, William just nodded, knowing that even she was trying to hide it, things weren't good for him.

The Inspector was the first one arriving on the scene along with Higgins and McNab after the call from Mr. Dilbert, and it was William himself who told his Inspector what happened. ''And Sir… I'm not feeling my legs…'' he lamented, and the Inspector just nodded, as Nina took the detective´s pulse.

A few meters ahead, a Russian woman was yelling with Det Watts while George and Henry helped a few citizens clean the mess. Back at the crash scene, the bus driver was getting annoyed that people were blocking his way and in response, it was Nina who yelled at him, demanding for an ambulance.

Suddenly, a figure called the Inspector´s attention - it was Miss Cherry, the journalist, who was taking notes from the accident. Furious then, the Inspector walk toward her, demanding what she was doing there.

''It's a big story for the paper and I'm just doing my job. Is that the Detective Murdoch?'' she said.

''Without anyone´s permission? The detective wants privacy, now go away!'' he yelled and with a frown, she left.

Meanwhile, William felt like his strengths were leaving him and he didn´t know how long he could stay conscious anymore.

''Detective?'' Nina called William, as a nurse who came with the ambulance, checked his vitals. ''Detective, are you still with me?''

''I want my wife…'' he said weakly. ''Where´s Julia…''

''Detective,'' Mr. Dilbert return to his side with worried eyes. ''I just called your wife, she´s on her way.''

''Mr. Dilbert,'' Thomas said as he came closer. ''My detective said he saved your life, as you were making your way to meet him and Det Watts,'' said the Inspector. ''So I ask you, what was so important that you wanted to notify the police?''

''Oh…'' Mr. Dilbert had completely forgotten about this. ''Inspector, I was going to the police, to report some embezzlement and fraud I found in the city register, mainly in the water company,'' he said. ''Here, I have everything written down for you to see.'' He said displaying the notes on the top of the car.

''I see…'' Thomas nodded. ''And you found everything?''

''Yes, and I was going to talk to my manager after that.''

''And you didn´t see the car coming?''

''No… I mean, I saw it coming, but it was also going to hit a woman with her baby and I stopped to warn her, when the detective pushed me away.''

''Sir…'' William gasped. ''Watts said there's… no baby on the stroller.'' William gasped again and in response Thomas just shook his head.

''Dilbert, old fellow, you just found a fraud in the contracts right?''

''Y-Yes Inspector, as I told you I…''

''So, I regret to inform you, old fellow, you fell into a trap. The person who committed the fraud staged this accident, just to have you killed. And now, thanks to the detective, you have a second chance to give the name, so whoever did this, ends up in jail,'' the Inspector said, leaving the clerk dumbfounded.
