This is a Legend Of Zelda oneshot set after the events of Breath Of The Wild. This story is very short, and expect no further continuation of it.
Link drew in a deep breath and raised his bow, aiming at a distant target. He was using a bow, given to him by the villagers at Kakariko village.
He had just moved to the remote settlement after he killed ganon, letting everybody else fix this huge mess that had been created 100 years ago. Luckily, the Sheikah had given him a house and a few sets of traditional clothing.
He took a deep breath and let the arrow go. A slight whistling sound filled the air as the projectile screeched away, hitting the target dead center.
"Wow." That was a pretty good shot!" Paya said as she reached the crest of the hill, which Link was shooting from.
"Thanks." The hero replied crispily. "How are things going, now that the blood moons and monsters have pretty much been erased?"
Paya blushed and replied. "Very good. We are open to travelers again and I've been able to read more books that our library bought."
Link nodded. "Cool. I'm making a trip to the castle myself."
"Why?" Paya said, "You fit in great here."
Link shrugged. "I have some...things to do." He nocked another arrow. "I also want to get rid of some of the stronger monsters in that place."
Paya sighed and walked away, hating herself for not asking to go along with him.
After taming a horse, Link set out to Hyrule Castle. The trip was by no means fast, and the Sheikah slate could teleport him nearby in an instant. He could've done the trip via teleportation, but he wanted to soak in the beauty of a monster-free Hyrule.
As his horse plodded slowly down the path, Link took a deep breath and shook away the tears that started to prick his eyes. Zelda, Mipha, Urbosa, Daruk…
He had failed them all, but yet fate chose him to survive. It was a pretty cruel fate, and Impa called it 'Survivor's Guilt'. Not to mention how much his heart ached when he thought of Zelda. He had read her diary while he was grabbing weapons before his fight against Ganon, and it made him hate himself more. He thought that being quiet was the porper duty, and the fact that he could barely talk to Zelda face-to-face increased his reason to be silent. But when Zelda wrote that she assumed it was his fault in her diary…
"You there!" It was a traveler, presumably a Yiga in disguise.
"Hello." Link stated. He moved his hand to the sword on his back, ready to fight.
"May I interest you in some Might Bananas?" The traveler asked. "They are very nutritional and they-"
He was cut off by a sword slicing through the air right in front of his face.
"I'm not that stupid. I know that you're a Yiga." Link yelled. "If you want a fight, you'll get one!"
There was a cloud of smoke and the fight began. A sickle was thrust through the mist, right at Link. The hero dodged it, time slowing down as he countered. A few hits with his fully upgraded Master Sword was enough to finish the job.
"You'll pay for that!" The Yiga yelled as they disappeared in yet another cloud of smoke.
Link shrugged and sheathed his sword, mounting his horse again and resuming his journey.
Link walked into the ruins of the castle, stepping over guardian parts and broken rubble. He drew the sword on his back, the blade illuminating the nearby night. All of the monsters nearby ran in fear, fearing that Link would end their lives.
Without much delay, Link was soon inside the large main room of the castle. Carefully avoiding the large hole in the floor, he climbed to the balcony. He was only there to be alone and reflect, and to figure out what the strange design on the wall meant. It had a triforce, with three identical bars of music around it.
Link sat down, running his hands through his hair. He set down his bag and opened it, remembering the small ocarina he had bought from a store.
"It's funny how one musical instrument can create a hobby," Link stated. "Well, I might as well try to play that song."
He pulled out the tan-colored instrument and set it to his lips, playing the song slowly. After he was done playing, Link stood up. The atmosphere of the room changed, but yet he couldn't place why.
Suddenly a bright white light filled the room, flooding it in its entirety.
Link gasped in shock. Did the song summon this? Or was it just an effect of him returning?
Link shielded his eyes and peered into the harsh glow, trying to see if anything was there. There!
Link saw a silhouette of a woman, most likely aged around twenty. The white light faded, and Link physically recoiled in shock.
"Zelda?" He asked in surprise.
The blonde princess stepped forward and the glow diminished. "The one and only."
