This is the offering to Kadam Week 2017 prompt 1: Accidental allergic reaction
It started one of the first times Adam came to the loft, Rachel was present and Adam's eyes started to sting and get red.
The wind had been blown all the way there, so chances were that it was just some irritation. Adam simply took his antihistamines and went through his time with Kurt without too many worries…
However, when Adam got snowbound in the loft with Kurt's friends he had to admit that there might be something there that was something that kept prodding his allergies.
He had no clue what it was, in theory anything brought into the loft from outside should have been stopped by the snow.
But they were persisting to the point he had to seriously consider id removing his contacts.
On the second day when indeed things had not got any better Adam had to give up trying so he took out his glasses and resigned himself to wearing them.
What he did not expect was Kurt's reaction to the picture he painted.
He didn't mind the glasses so much, he knew the thin metal frame and their squared shave were complimentary to his look, at least that was his sister's expert opinion...
But they were not the most comfortable option either, unless allergies were acting up, like they were doing at that moment.
What he totally didn't expect seeing, was the light flush on Kurt's face, nor Kurt's lip forming a small surprised o when their eyes met. It was quite an interesting reaction, if it wasn't for Kurt's flatmates, possibly friends but that was still to be determined, as Adam had not seen yet true signs of friendship coming from the two girls, just attitude...
"Wanky, ohi Lady Hummel what's going on? I'm all for discovering your sexual independence and self discovery but I thought you were all back on banging Blaine since the welma wedding? And now you're all drolling over Doctor Who ready to dry hump him in front of us?"
Santana had the look of the cat who destroyed finery and knew exactly it was a bad thing to do, but simply went on and started licking themselves as if they had done nothing wrong at all.
Rachel chose that moment to step in with her opinion and unique brand of unwanted critique "Really Kurt? You should know better, you know things will work out better with Blaine if you don't cheat on him again while he's not around... How can we have harmony in our home when he'll come to live here this summer, waiting to start Nyada in the fall?"
then she turned to Adam, her tone dismissively "No offence but you're a distraction at best, and we all know Klaine is forever, while you'll be repatriated after graduation... You should just give up now and save everyone the heartache."
Adam raised an eyebrow and leaned on the door frame of the bathroom since he had barely the time to get out of it before the verbal attacks started.
Surprisingly, as soon as Rachel came forward to pat his shoulder in a condescending way, Adam first went rigid with the not so welcome familiarity, and because all of a sudden at her vicinity his nose started to prickle.
He turned away from the little diva to sneeze, then he offered a small smile and shrugged a quick explanation "Sorry my allergies have been acting up."
Santana snorted at that and Rachel continued as if she had never been interrupted, nor had she listened to a single word Adam had said, which was very likely "It's nothing personal but you are you know, and we all know that as foreign senior you'll be out of our lives in few months, you shouldn't make things so much harder for Kurt, Blaine won't like this at all..."
Adam looked completely taken aback like he couldn't believe what he was hearing, he sent a questioning look at Kurt who was looking very much on the brick of exploding. Kurt was still as a statue, lips pressed in the tightest and thinnest line Adam had ever seen on him...
Not even when he had witnessed Kurt call out a couple of perks after they ditched the little diva and tried to butter Kurt up after his win at the Midnight Madness...
Santana, however, beat everyone to the punchline and snorting once more she asked "Allergic to what? Midgets?"
Rachel dismissive huff as she stepped away from Adam, or maybe Santana's words had apparently broken down the dam.
Because Kurt looked all of a sudden like an Icy King, his voice didn't even raise as he delivered his quips "Maybe he's allergic to divas" looking at Rachel, he then turned to look at Santana without a pause "and ungrateful freeloaders who have no understanding of what the world private means. Both of which butt their unwanted heads in places where they are not invited nor welcome. I know for a fact I'm developing such allergies myself"
Kurt's eyes were blazing with rage as he shot a warning look at the two girls. Then his eyes softened as they landed on Adam himself, and with a small smile, Adam watched Kurt uncross one arm and offering a hand to him in clear invitation.
Adam strode through the room to reach Kurt and once they were side by side and he took the offered hand.
Kurt then continued speaking to the two girls "I don't know on what kind of cool-aid you both are on but drop it. My private life is none of your business and neither is who I have sex with. I'd like also to remind you both that the lease of this place is solely in my name because you Rachel have no credit going and cannot even sign the lease without one of your daddies here"
Continuing in the same frosty tone he looked at the latino girl "As for you Santana, you are not even paying rent so you're basically a guest who's quickly becoming an unwelcome one… If you want to have an opinion start putting down the rent money, otherwise either shut up and be grateful or don't let the door hit you on your way out."
Both girls were speechless, and Adam couldn't stop the small awed look in his eyes, Kurt looked majestic even through his still teary eyes.
Adam noticed that throughout the rest of their snowbound cohabitation, that the two girls did everything to stay out of Kurt and his way, with their relief and Adam's personal surprise, given the limited quarters and open space loft provided.
When less than a week after Rachel stormed out of Kurt's loft, leaving everything but her clothes behind in a disdained huff, Adam was torn between being worried for Kurt's finances at having to support the loft on his own and thinking good riddance…
When Kurt invited him over to help clear out the diva's space, and Adam's allergies started acting up again, they discovered that indeed Adam was allergic to Diva's…
A perfume Rachel Berry had bought and used constantly, before her storming out and leaving it behind like trash, which was exactly where it ended up during the Great Purge of Kurt's life, and living space…
