Chapter 1: Wake up
Since the war, Josephine has moved into a quaint house in Los Angeles, California to try and heal the wounds of losing her girlfriend, Hermione Granger.
Luckily, though, she did not have to hide her magic as recently (in the last few years) the muggle world have found out about the wizarding world.
Josephine has also enrolled herself in the local High School to try and get back part of the childhood she's lost. She's even become friends with a girl named Flynn, and somehow become enemies with a girl named Carrie.
She still keeps in touch with Harry, Ron, and GInny, even if it's not everyday.
"Hey, underachiever," Flynn said as she walked up to Josephine's locker
"Hey, disappointment," Josephine retorted
"Ok, I know you don't want me to ask," Flynn started, "but have you figured out what you're gonna do today."
Today was Josephine's last day to prove to her teacher that she belonged in the music program.
"I'll know in the moment."
"Really, Joe? That's all you're giving me? Mrs. Harrison said this is your last chance."
"I know, I was there."
"See you at the rally!" Carrie cheered as she handed out flyers to the students across the hall
"Ugh! What is she handing out?" Flynn groaned
"Desperation," Josephine jeered as Carrie walked up to them
"Here you go. My group's performing at the spirit rally tomorrow. I'm sure you guys have nothing better to do."
"Oh my gosh, Carrie. Thanks!" Flynn said sarcastically
"Oh my gosh, Flynn!" Carrie responded, equally sarcastic, "Don't bother coming."
Carrie then walked away before the bell rang, leaving Josephine and Flynn to go to their music class they had together.
"Ok, we have one last performance," Mrs. Harrison said, "Josephine?"
Josephine anxiously stood up before making her way over to the piano, and laying her chosen song out.
"Take your time," Mrs. Harrison said
Just as Josephine began to rest her hands on the correct keys, a memory flashed before her.
She remembered the time in Grindewauld Place when she and Hermione played the piano together.
Merlin, she was so happy back then! Just to be with her, even if times were hard.
"I-I can't," Josephine said, suddenly feeling like she couldn't play music in a world without Hermione by her side. "I'm sorry…"
For the rest of the school day, Josephine kept her head down.
. . .
After doing some homework, Josephine decided to start cleaning out the garage area as the people who sold it to her just left the garage full of stuff.
Opening the doors up, she saw a white sheet that covered the piano she has seen before. She had never touched it; not because she didn't want to touch another person's stuff, but because she had lost her love of music the moment she lost her love.
Noticing the little attic area above, she climbed the sturdy all the way up.
There, she found a keyboard and a CD laying next to it. The CD was labeled Sunset Curve.
Deciding that she had nothing better to do, she walked back down the latter and over to the couch before she popped the disc into the player.
Then, a boy's voice began singing a pop song that sounded like it was from the 90s era of music.
After a few moments of listening to it, she suddenly heard screaming before three boys appeared out of thin air.
She immediately pointed her wand at the boys, who jumped back at her action.
"Who are you, and what are you doing in my garage?"
"Your garage? This is our studio," the boy with shaggy brown hair responded, "Trust me...the grand piano is new, and...and...and...my couch!"
He then flopped himself onto the couch before looking at the guitar on his left.
"That is definitely not my six string. Can you give me just one second?"
Josephine just moved forward, her wand still pointed out.
"Just...one second. Thank you."
The man then turned to his two other friends before whispering, "Guys, what is going on? How did she get her stuff in here so fast?"
"Maybe...maybe she's a witch. I mean, she does have a wand in her hand," the boy, Reggie, suggested
"Ok, there is no such thing as witches," the third boy, Alex, said
"You sure?" Reggie said, "I used to think there was no such thing as ghosts."
"Ghosts?" Josephine questioned, making them all turn around, "You guys don't look like any ghosts I've seen before."
"You've seen ghosts before?" the shaggy haired boy, Luke, asked
"Yeah, at my boarding school….Wait. Why do you guys look like you're from a totally different era?"
"What do you mean? What year is it?" Alex asked
"2020."
"What!" all three of them yelled
"We died in 1995," Luke said
"Yeah. We were in a band: Sunset Curve."
Josephine then got her phone out before double checking that that was true.
"Yeah...I guess you've been dead for 25 years…"
"25 years!" Alex yelled "I've been crying for twenty five years!"
"Wait, that doesn't explain the stick you're holding in your hand?" Luke asked
"Oh, yeah...you guys haven't heard the news."
Josephine then explained to the three boys about magic and the wizarding world, while briefly touching on the recent war.
"Wow...a lots changed…," Alex said
"Yup," she simply said, looking down at her feet, "I-I just need a minute."
She then walked out before making her way up to her house before Luke ghost-poofed in front of her.
"Ah!"
"Oh, I'm sorry."
"What do you want?"
"Look, I know this is all completely insane, but do you know how rad this is? You can see us! You can even hear us play.
"Yeah, it's just I've had a really awful day. I gotta go."
"Well, I'm sorry you had a bad day, but three guys just found out that they had a bad 25 years, and then they found out that the one thing they lived for in the first place they can still do. That's pretty rad."
"Well, not all of us are as lucky as you three!" I said angrily
"What?"
"I lost somebody I really cared about! I'd give anything to see them again! And did the universe give me them to have as a ghost? No! It gave me you three bumbling idiots!"
"I...I am so sorry," Luke said
"We...we didn't know," Alex said, just appearing a minute ago with Reggie by his side.
"No...I'm sorry. I shouldn't have yelled at you, I just... "
"It's okay. You don't have to explain," Luke said
"Look...if you guys need a place to stay...you can just stay here."
The next day, Josephine walked into the garage, only to find it empty.
Then, she set her eyes on the grand piano before taking the white cover off.
Lightly placing her hands down on the keys, she began to play a song she wrote called Wake Up.
She had written it for Hermione, but sadly never got the chance to play it for her.
When she finished, she noticed a little not scrawled out on the last page: This song is amazing! - Love, Hermione.
Josephine just took the paper before hugging it to her chest.
"I miss you…," she whispered
Unbeknownst to Josephine, all three boys were standing behind her, blown away at her voice and piano skills while simultaneously wondering who this person could be.
