A/N: AHS Apocalypse and Lucifer did this to me. I only watched a few episodes of the latter but that was apparently enough. This has been sitting in my drafts since last year and I finally dusted and polished it here. Still lots of polishing to go.

The first thing he does after laying her down is to place his hand on her throat. His palm rests in the hollow of her neck like a button being latched on. His hand wraps around it completely.

A perfect fit.

She doesn't move or strain. She's perfect even in her sleep. He tilts his head taking in her features from all angles. Her smooth caramel skin glows like nothing he's ever seen. Nothing about mortal women ever fazes him. They flit around him each night with their bosoms pushed out and lipstick too bright. A taste, they beg. If only they knew a taste is never enough. A drop of him on the tongue will burn through any flesh.

But she is different.

She's not completely mortal, that is. Her lips part allowing wisps of air to escape. He wants to become the air she's inhaling, to invade within her and absorb all he can find. Such a need is foreign to him. For the sort of creature is, he is surprisingly content. The tributes he gets feed his magic and in turn feed his coven. There is nothing more he should want for.

But ever since he laid eyes on her, Kai realized that contentment was a myth. He brushed her cheek reverently with his fingers. She reacts by scrunching up her nose a little but doesn't wake up. It's ok. She will soon enough.

"Bonnie," He whispers. That's what they called her. Beautiful Bonnie. His forefinger rests on her pink lips feeling tempted to part the soft plump cushions for a peek inside.

The very first time Kai laid eyes on Bonnie, it was by accident. She was in his domain even if she didn't know it. The nightclub was his feeding ground and source of revenue. A place which allowed him to hide in plain sight. The circumstances of his birth made him different from other witches. A lone being, the first of his kind. The only one of his kind. He didn't get magic like the other witches did. It was implanted into his very being but the manner to conjure it was different. Kai needed juice to put it lightly. The nightclub offered that juice.

Bonnie was accompanied there by some friends. They were looking for someone or something. He didn't truly care what. Kai sat up over the railing surveying the debauchery and decadence pouring from every corner. Vermin, all of them.

What did strike him was the petite brown-haired women struggling through the sea of sweaty bodies and gyrating hips. She glowed brightly. Even under the neon lights it burned brightly and set her apart.

A goddess among those unworthy.

He watched as she found her target, signaling her friends to his whereabouts. He turned out to be a vampire and quite a vicious one at that. He rushed towards her at an inhuman speed poised to attack and something just broke in Kai. He didn't realize what he caused until he saw the confused but awed look on her face and the vampire across the room bent in half by the spine. The party goers predictably screamed in hysterics at the scene, pushing away and clawing for the entrance to escape. It didn't worry him; they'd be back the next night with their friends who were lured by the promise of danger. That was why they came in the first place after all.

Two of her absent friends finally made it apprehending the vampire. Two men, both vampires themselves. Kai had no strong feelings about their kind one way or another but he wondered why this girl made acquaintance with them. Most witches did not mix with vampires at all. Although, it bloomed something hopeful within him. Most witches did not mix with him either so perhaps she was of the freer sort not bound by convention or custom. She might see him and decide he wasn't an abomination.

He was getting ahead of himself. He'd just seen her for the first time for goodness' sake; he was far away from her on a balcony. She couldn't even see him.

The blonde one went up to her, lips moving rapidly. It was too far to tell exactly what they were saying but he guessed it was about the pretzeled vamp and her part in it. She still looked confused glancing around the area for any clues as to what might have happened. Kai remained unseen but the image of her was burned into his memory. On her way out he concealed himself by the door stealthily plucking a strand of hair from her head.

It was a single part of her. He would treasure it.

He waited but a few days before he visited her in a dream.

He constructed a meadow filled with wild daffodils and a warm, soft sunlight. She wore a long red gown that fell to her bare ankles. Her long curly hair was down unlike in the club. She looked around clearly pleased by the peaceful scenery until her eyes fell on him.

Kai stood paces away from her content to just watch her frolic but someone as powerful as her could sense the tampering in her subconscious. She would have questions. It was time to make an introduction.

"Hello."

"Who are you?" She asked, taking a cautious step backwards.

Kai smiled, "I'm no one. Just a stranger wandering this field like you are."

"We both know you didn't drift here accidentally unless you make a habit from hopping from dream to dream. So, I'll ask again, who are you?" She kept her eyes on him never wavering. The tone of her voice was steady and strong. She was unafraid. It excited him. He was used to fear as the default reaction to his presence. Most times he fed on that fear, craved it even.

A fresh reaction was very welcome.

"I'm Kai. I didn't hop here by accident. I wanted to see you again," He answered truthfully.

"See me again? I don't think I've met you before. My name is Bonnie," She frowned a little. Her plump pink lips stretched into a line.

"I've seen you," is all he offers before releasing her moments before dawn came.

The next morning, Bonnie woke up sweaty and confused in her bed. Visions of a golden meadow came up in her memory but she couldn't recall anything beyond that. She knew there was something else there but it came up blank.

The entire day she felt off. Her friends notice it too. They were making brunch in the Gilbert kitchen chatting about nothing in particular. It felt nice to have nothing important to chat about. They chased down the last vampire involved with the Augustine society last week. Damon tracked him to a club in LA where he already left a trail of dead bodies due to the effect of the ripper virus. After giving him the cure and sending him on his way, the off feeling still remained with her.

"Earth to Bonnie," Caroline bopped her nose bringing her out of the hazy memory.

She dropped the whisk she'd been absently holding, "Sorry I've been sort of out of it lately. Just tired, I guess. Finals are coming up."

"You've been out of it for a while now," Elena said with concern cracking two eggs in a bowl.

Bonnie shrugged, "Like I said, just tired."

That part was true. Working at the bookstore, hunting rogue vampires in between and trying to stay on top of her coursework while still remaining undeclared took a toll. She just didn't want to admit that the weird dream she had was now part of it.

Brunch was a once in a while treat and she intended to enjoy it. Weird dreams be damned.

He visited again the next night.

This time she was crouched over a koi fish pond, marveling at the pretty fishes dancing without care underwater. He kept himself concealed for a while longer before letting her sense him.

"Why are you here again?" Bonnie was less apprehensive and more curious.

"I wanted to see you again, Bonnie," Kai felt no need to hide his intentions. "You're very beautiful and I can't stop thinking about you."

She looked down, loose strands of her framing her face. "You don't know me. You visit my dreams but you don't know me."

"I know you walk with vampires," He took a step closer. That was decidedly the wrong thing to say because her lovely face clouded immediately.

She scoffed, "I don't walk with anyone. Let me guess, you're another bigoted witch with an agenda against my friends and you want to get me on your side. It's not going to happen."

"I'm not a witch," Kai revealed quickly. "I'm... more than that. I hold no ill will towards your friends. I just want to know you better."

"Why?" Bonnie genuinely could not fathom why this man, this creature if he wasn't a witch, wanted to know her.

"I see that you are in pain," He reached for her hand. He noted gleefully that she had not hesitated to allow him to touch her.

"How?"

Time and multiple experiences had done this to her. The scars on her soul, even if she couldn't see them herself. He wondered what caused them. What happened to make her carry this weight with her. He wanted to take it all away from her.

"Let me release you from it."
