Shadow's POV

Over the purring engine of the motorcycle, chatter amongst bystanders, and the typical traffic ambiance, Shadow heard a voice come through his earpiece, a voice reaching out on the other end.

"Sargent Shadow! Do you read me?" The voice asks.

"Loud and clear soldier," Shadow responded, looking straight ahead. There was a moment of silence before Shadow sighed quietly himself as he eyed the traffic that was directly ahead. He adjusted himself on top of his motorcycle, his hands firmly gripped on the handlebars as he waited for the light to turn green. He awaited a response as cars flew past him. So far everything was alright that met the eye.

For a few years now, Shadow has been affiliated with the military group known as G.U.N. The irony about the whole partnership was that Shadow originally had been enemies of the group when he first showed up on this planet. Originally driven by vengeance because of the death of his dear old friend, Maria Robotnik, who was gunned down by G.U.N over fifty years ago... He was going to reclaim this planet and its weakling mobians, but thanks to the help of his dear friends like Rouge the Bat, E-123- Omega and even Sonic the Hedgehog, he had a change of heart and made another pact. Protect this planet for Maria and make things right.

After that, he joined G.U.N and climbed up their ranks within time... Now as one of their leading commanders, he was a force to be reckoned with. However what the difference was between Shadow and everyone else on planet Mobius was that he was created on the Space Colony Ark, a spaceship that could still be seen from the planet on a clear day. Shadow was created from the research of artificial life and flawless genetic wiring. Shadow's design was made to be immortal and have unlimited power. However, with the help of that young girl, he became something other than an emotionless monster that was only seen as an ultimate weapon. Due to this change of heart, he was able to make the right decisions later in life, such as joining G.U.N and working with millions to help those who needed the help the most. Serving out Maria's wishes finally.

Shadow's appearance has changed over the years. He still had that lush dark ebony fur with crimson red streaks that dashed up to his arms, legs, and quills. A fluffy white patch of fur that poked out between the folds of his leather G.U.N jacket he wore mostly all the time. Bright ruby-red eyes. His ears were torn from countless battles. He even got some battle scars on his body, the most notable feature being a scar over his right eye that he earned when fighting fake look-a-like androids years ago. His quills were rough but it suited him to have them in a wild fashion, where four of them curved upwards while the two in the center of his head curved downwards.

His attire was what he'd usually wear on daily basis, white gloves with black cuffs and red tongues, his rocket shoves which mirrored his gloves with matching cuffs and tongues. His inhibitor rings always stayed on his wrists and ankles, rarely did they come off unless necessary. Since he worked with G.U.N he needed at least something that affiliated him with the group, which leads to his leather jacket with the large white G logo on his right bicep with the blue, gray, and red background. On his right leg, he had a single strap, which held the holster to his handgun he carried with him quite often. Usually, he didn't want to resort to using his bare hands when fighting petty crimes, so the gun was normally just for show. Adjusting his sunglasses that rested on the bridge of his nose, Shadow finally got a response.

"We've detected a huge surge of energy that just came from Windy Valley, HQ requests that you go there immediately to investigate the anomaly."

"..Is it the Doctor?" Shadow asked into the earpiece, frowning a little as he didn't want too many confrontations today.

"Currently that is unknown." The soldier replied with a gentle sigh. "We should have that information for you soon, sir."

"Hmph..." Shadow couldn't help but roll his eyes in response, suddenly sitting upright as the light turns green ahead. He leans forward to start moving, however before anyone could let off of the breaks, Shadow sped off before anyone, his motorcycle roaring to life as he left the civilians in the dust. "I would have assumed that last week's battle with him would have deterred him from starting any more idiotic plans," Shadow complained, making a quick and sharp right to turn back around towards Windy Valley, already expecting to see the worst of it when he arrived.

"We assumed the same thing, sir. But at this point, we should just start to conclude that Doctor Eggman will never stop until he gets what he wants." There was a pause before the soldier continued, explaining the situation further to the ultimate life form. "There's been a lot more strange activity that has been happening throughout the globe..."

"Explain," Shadow ordered, confused by that comment... City crimes weren't exactly a problem to Shadow, as long as they were local, they'd make sense... But global was a completely different story.

"Well, thanks to the Sonic Team and the Hero Agency..." The soldier nervously cleared his throat, fearing the reaction of his higher up. "They were able to put all of the Chaos Emeralds in their rightful spots at each Gaia Temple..."

Shadow did a quick brake check and stopped in the middle of the empty street, wide-eyed at that before a low groan escaped from his lips. "...Honestly that doesn't even surprise me anymore... Sonic is an idiot and that whole Hero Agency is children play..." He scoffs in annoyance, pinching the bridge of his nose as he starts back up on his drive, making another right before heading back towards Windy Valley. "He left the most powerful items this planet has to offer on silver platters for the doctor." Shadow faceplammed, cursing his rival for being so foolish and dumb. "No wonder there's a strange activity."

"We couldn't help but agree back at HQ, sir..." The soldier then continues. "However this is where things are going to get... a little blurry and confusing... Since Sonic and his team did that, we've kept high surveillance of all seven Gaia Gates... We have people on patrol and so far... We haven't had any sightings of Dr. Eggman or his robot goons... Yet world hysteria and horrible natural events are happening throughout the globe.."

Shadow couldn't help but scowl, his eyes locked dead ahead as he drove faster. "That's normal. That's what this planet does." He leans closer down to the dash of his motorcycle. "The world's plates are most likely shifting together which are causing these events to happen... Something must be going on under the crust or something of that nature... I'm assuming due to the plates smashing into one another it's as simple as causing landslides and earthquakes, so there's nothing to wor-"

An extremely loud explosion came from behind Shadow, causing the G.U.N general to quickly glare over his shoulder at the direction it came from... Several blocks behind him... A large, looming tower of smoke and flame was just out of sight.

"WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE!" A nearby mobian screamed, an older mouse with a large mustache as he ran off in the opposite direction, panic broke out and several others began to follow his lead. Shadow scowled angrily as he turned his head forward.

"What the hell.." Shadow mutters, quickly taking the initiative to turn his motorcycle around quickly, tires screeching in response to the sudden direction change... Since people were in a panicked mess, many cars were left behind, abandoned, and in the way... So without much hesitation, Shadow began to weave through traffic, the earpiece buzzed to life again.

"Change of plans Shadow sir! Forget Windy Valley! We already have soldiers on the scene! Go to Station Square immediately! There are sightings of Eggman and he's destroying many buildings already!"

"Rodger," Shadow mutters, leaning closer to his motorcycle to get less air traction as he sped up, getting closer to the source of the damage... large groups of people all were running away and in a panic as people began to dial for police and the Hero Agency for aid. Shadow couldn't help but get annoyed as the streets became even more crowded... "Get out of the way!" He orders, zipping through the center of the road now, his tires speeding over the yellow dotted line in the center of the street. Millions of questions raced through his head... Why would the doctor just attack the city like this? Is it all for a show? Or was there something up his sleeves?

"Stay on your guard, sir!"

Shadow rolled his eyes, lifting a hand to the earpiece. "I already know what I have to do." He curtly reminded his subordinate before he switches it off, cutting off communications with HQ to concentrate... HQ HATED it when Shadow would do that.. but he couldn't hear himself think when he had someone else ordering him around or telling him things he already knew... Shadow eventually got close enough to smell the flames and it was sending his anxiety into overdrive... Were there casualties? He rounded the corner and came to a sudden stop... He quickly climbed off his motorcycle as he approached the situation...

However already on the scene was Sonic of course... The street was empty of civilians as far as Shadow could tell. However, he saw the damage and where the fire was coming from... The large robot that was shoved sloppily into the building to the right... shattered glass littered the street and sidewalk as the robot's large feet crushed several cars underneath it... Wedged in the center of the robot, was a giant hole, where normally Eggman would be seated in, safe and protected by the glass that his Egg Mobile had put up... However, Eggman was missing and it was just a giant, abandoned robot inside of a giant office building... Crushed it like a piece of paper. Shadow scowled angrily as he looked over at Sonic, who was admiring the view.

"Hedgehog," Shadow growled, causing the blue blur to spin around and his face lit up upon seeing Shadow.

"Shadow! You're kinda late to the party~"

"Shut up." Shadow hisses, eyeing the area before he stares up at the robot. "Where's the doctor?" He asks angrily.

"Oh he left a while ago when he saw that he was outmatched," Sonic replied with a chuckle.

"Outmatched?" Shadow asked, confused by that reply... Sonic was hardly a problem to Eggman. So why flee so easily if you're going through all this trouble to get this giant robot through the city?

"Yeah!" Sonic says, pointing across the way. "But honestly it's not that big of a deal... We handled the situation pretty well!"

"We?" Shadow asked, following Sonic index finger... He then spotted him. A gray hedgehog who he had never seen in his life stood there, who wore an annoyed expression. "So both of you caused all this damage?" He asked, turning to look back at Sonic, who quickly shakes his head in response.

"Oh no!" Sonic then laughs a little. "I just spoke to Eggman while he did all of the work here... He's got some crazy powers!" Sonic says, grinning as he waves the stranger over, who looks confused at first but decides to just take on the offer, approaching both Shadow and Sonic.

Shadow cannot help but deadpan, having all the evidence he needed. Once the other hedgehog was in arms reach, Shadow acted quickly... Grabbing ahold of one of the stranger's arms before quickly pinning him to the ground.

"Shadow! What the heck are you doing?!" Sonic looked bewildered as he watched his rival pull out some handcuffs and slap them onto the other guy's wrist.

"O-ouch!" The gray hedgehog growled in response, but when he tried to activate his powers... Nothing happened... In total shock, he laid there against the cement.

"Don't even attempt to try it," Shadow warned him. "You'll just exhaust yourself... These handcuffs dampen your abilities by 95%." He then stood up as he dragged the gray hedgehog up with him.

"Why are you arresting him?" Sonic asks, offended by this new guy.

"Y-yeah what's the big deal?" The silvery-gray hedgehog asked, annoyed that he was even naïve enough to approach these strangers.

"Do I even have to explain my reason?" Shadow asked, holding him by the bicep as he flipped his earpiece back on. "He's caused way more damage than necessary," Shadow explains, glaring over at Sonic who gave him an annoyed expression. "He could be responsible for injuries or death," Shadow warned, glaring daggers at Sonic who only rolls his eyes in response.

"You're going on about that?" Sonic asks before he turns towards the gray hedgehog between him and his rival. "What's your name, man? I got your back on this."

"S-silver... Silver the Hedgehog." He replied, gritting his teeth in pain as he tugged at his hands, only for Shadow to tighten his grip even more on his arm.

"Silver's innocent Shadow... He was just doing what ANY of us would do in that situation. Not to mention he managed to save two innocent lives because of what he did!" Sonic argues, but before he could get any more in the conversation, Shadow cuts him off with a single hand. Shadow held up a hand to silence the annoying blue hero and sighed as he touched his earpiece, beeping in his location to HQ.

"Bring me back up. We also need a clean-up crew to the scene immediately." He ordered. "Also bring me a prisoner containment vehicle."

Sonic stood there dumbfounded as Shadow lowered his hand, he went to speak up before Shadow shot him another look. "I'm merely following orders from THE PRESIDENT." Shadow snapped. "We need control of our fights and situations... We caused too many casualties and injuries in the past, we are taking all the precautions we possibly need to take, hedgehog."

"...Well laws and rules are meant to be broken, Shadow." Sonic snapped quickly, earning him yet another famous glare from Shadow.

"Should I just arrest you too then?" Shadow asked bluntly, pulling Silver closer in for a better grip. Silver scowled as he listened to the two babbled on and argue...

Within ten minutes or so... Shadow got the backup he requested for... Eventually, Silver was loaded up and taken away as Sonic scowled angrily as Shadow filled out a report on a clipboard... once he was done writing, Shadow handed the files off to a soldier who saluted the black hedgehog before running off... Shadow noticed the dirty looks he was getting from his rival before he just decides he had enough.

"I don't need you to tell me how I need to do my job." The Ultimate Lifeform grumbled, crossing his arms as ruby locked with emerald... "In a matter of fact... You need to go ahead and get yourself to Westoplis in an hour. Go straight to G.U.N HQ."

Sonic was shocked, blinking quickly in response before he threw his arms up. "E-excuse me?! That's like literally on the other side of the country, Shadow." He complained, watching Shadow stroll past him as he approached his motorcycle... He watched Shadow mount it before the black and red hedgehog slowly pulled his sunglasses back over his eyes.

"Then that won't be a problem for you," Shadow stated in a matter-of-fact tone. "You're the fastest thing alive," He then started up the motorbike, which roared to life once again. "Don't be late," Shadow ordered. "I have several questions and you're considered a key witness... If you bail.. I'll have a warrant put out for your arrest."

With that said, Shadow sped off, Sonic's jaw dropped as he watched his rival speed away... Throwing his hands up in disbelief...
