Author's Note
So yeah I know some of you will be annoyed that I'm starting yet another story yet neglect to update my first two.
I'm really genuinely sorry. Thing is, the idea for this fic has been in my head for years now. After reading the Senju Naruto stories of Aragon Potter and Baal of Yarns the idea wouldn't leave me.
This story is different though. The main character is still Tsunade's son, but isn't Naruto. Naruto Uzumaki still exists and is still the jinchuuriki, but isn't the main character because honestly I really hate his unrealistic character.
Unlike the two previously mentioned authors though, I won't focus on back story. Things start when canon begins. On a final note, I suck at names so I'm gonna borrow the name of an oc Senju from a different fic. I hope you guys like my attempt.
Being escorted by an Anbu in the middle of the village in broad daylight drew a lot of stares. Once the first curious onlookers got a look at my back however, murmuring immediately broke out.
I wasn't bothered however. To everyone that met my eyes, I offered a small smile, which was returned. The people are really friendly here I muse.
I stop halfway to the Hokage Tower however. After a second, my escort stops as well. I'm entranced. Looking over the Village Hidden in the Leaves, is the Hokage Monument.
I'm looking at my namesakes however. The First and Second Hokages. My family. After taking it in for a few more moments, I carry on walking.
Internally I'm laughing however. I would have loved to see the Third Hokage's face as he received my mother's message through Katsuyu.
It's not every day that you learn that the student you haven't seen in decades had a child in secret after all.
It's even more surprising, when you're only informed a hour beforehand that said son will be at the village gates momentarily.
His mother did it to catch everyone here off guard and to give him breathing room from the inevitable fallout. The Advisors are likely to come sniffing around soon. Her words, not his.
During his musings, it appears that they've arrived at the Hokage's office. The Anbu knocks thrice and then opens the door. I follow him in. There I get my first glimpse in person, of my mother's old sensei.
I bow my head. " Lord Third, thank you for making time to see me. I'd also like to apologise that we've sprung all this on you. "
He didn't know what emotion to focus on. A scant few minutes ago, while he'd been indulging in one of Jiraiya's fine works, a puff of smoke appeared on his desk.
He stood up immediately and his four guards materialized in his office. When the smoke dissapated, he was stunned. It was a summon he'd recognise anywhere, though he hadn't seen her in a few years, not since he gave her an object her mistress requested.
" Greetings Lord Third, I bring a message from my mistress, Lady Tsunade. " She then proceeded to spit out a scroll. He grimaced internally. This is why they never used Katsuyu to carry messages in the old days.
Gingerly, he took the scroll and carefully opened it. A few minutes later, he sat back on his chair, stunned. Tsunade has a child. A son.
What's more, he's only finding out about it now. After he gets over his shock, he grudgingly agrees with her logic.
The boy was likely safer with her, hidden from everyone. The Heir to the Senju clan would have been in danger when he was younger. Not just from outside forces.
He groans then. Danzo, Koharu and Homura are going to be outraged when they find out. They can take it up with his mother however. Let her deal with them.
Still, he thinks, he is happy for Tsunade and happy that his sensei's clan won't die out. What's more, the appeal of the Senju will draw clients flocking.
Still, he agrees with Tsunade's request. It's best if the boy remains in the Land of Fire while he's a Genin. Atleast until his competency can be gauged.
He finds a clean scroll and quickly writes a message on it. " Boar, take this message to Umino Iruka. Bird, go to the gate. A boy traveling alone will be there soon, escort him to my office immediately. "
The two named Anbu, salute and quickly head out to complete their tasks. That done, he takes the remaining time till his guest arrives, to gather himself.
While he waits, he tells his secretary to bring tea and snacks when his guest arrives. Twenty minutes later, three knocks sound on his door and then it opens.
His eyes widen slightly. The boy is tall. Slightly taller than his age mates, with mostly straight, shoulder length hair that's pure white.
He's wearing black pants that are taped up, black sandals and a deep blue haori. Mesh armour is visible beneath it. His breath catches slightly when he sees the necklace of the First Hokage around his neck.
Right above his mother's honey coloured eyes is a blue diamond seal upon his brow, just like Lady Mito. Then he bows and speaks.
The Third Hokage looks old and worn. His eyes are warm however and his chakra feels strong and steady. He smiles at me.
" It is good to meet you Hatorama my boy and no apologies are necessary. I know well the protective instinct of my old student. "
" I must say, I was immensely surprised to hear of your existence. It saddened me greatly to know the clan of my sensei would die out. I'm glad that's no longer the case. "
" I'll admit, it is fortunate that you're going to take the Exams tomorrow. We were one Genin short. " A knock sounds on the door then.
A lady enters bearing a tray of tea and snacks. Once she's served us, she departs. I spend the next hour regaling the Hokage of stories of my upbringing, childhood and our travels.
I laugh at his gaping expression when I tell him I was taught kenjutsu by General Mifune. That story ends up taking another half hour.
Surprisingly, the Hokage looks refreshed after our talk. I decide to mention it to him. He then tells me this is the longest break he's taken this week. I'm surprised. Mother uses a nifty jutsu to do actual surgeries while she gambles. So I say so.
" I don't understand Lord Third. Why do you personally do your paperwork? Why not use Shadow Clones? Mother tells me that the mental strain of the jutsu is lessened when you use it for menial things. "
I laugh again at his gaping expression as I leave his office. Once I leave the Hokage Tower, I mentally recall mother's directions to the Senju Compound.
I follow a convoluted path that leads me to the outskirts of the village. There, the path ends with two towering trees.
There is a path opened between them, but I can't see where it leads. The trees themselves thrum with overwhelmingly potent chakra.
Confidently, I walk between them. For a second, I'm stopped in my tracks as I'm scanned by some seal. Then the hostile intent vanishes and the tree branches move and pet me in a friendly way.
I can't help chuckling. When I pass the trees, I can finally see my new home. It's both stunningly beautiful and heartbreakingly sad.
A large two story, ornately built traditional house is visible in the distance. The land between the house and the two guardian trees lie empty. The homes that stood there have long been torn down.
My great grandmother Mito had them torn down. She couldn't stand the thought of living in a compound of ghosts. Only the main house remains.
When she died, the compound sealed itself and barred all non-Senju from entering. Surprisingly or maybe not, the garden has not been overrun. Perhaps it's the work of my great grandfather, still going strong decades after his death.
Once I reach the door of the house, I nick a finger and swipe it against the door. A seal immediately appears and after a moment, the door opens.
I enter the house and immediately start coughing. Right. Decades since it was inhabited. I create ten water clones and immediately set them to work cleaning and airing out the house.
I set off to explore the grounds.
Back at the Hokage Tower
The talk with young Hatorama was very illuminating. Tsunade really took all precautions possible. The boy was well protected.
Well trained by his mother as well. It's all in the bearing. It reminds him of his old sensei actually. It's a pleasant surprise, though sure to ruffle feathers among some of the new Genin.
Just by looking at him, Hiruzen could tell that he could wipe the floor with his age mates. Which brings him to his next meeting.
He barely hides his amusement in time as his three old teammates arrive. All three were in a meeting with Shikaku, so have had no time to hear the latest gossip.
Once they're seated, it's Homura that speaks first. " What's going on Hiruzen? Your secretary is acting very strangely. " I look at the three of them.
" It's likely because of my previous appointment. An unexpected visitor. A twelve year old boy who grew up outside of the Land of Fire and who will take the Genin Exam tomorrow. "
For a moment, the three show open surprise. Then Danzo's face twists. " Have you lost your mind in your old age Hiruzen? It's preposterous that an outsider be granted entry into our forces! "
" Have you had the boy vetted by the Intelligence Department? He could be a spy! " Homura looks just as annoyed. Koharu however is looking at me shrewdly. " Who is this boy Hiruzen? "
I look at her then. " The three of you need not worry about him being a spy. His identity has been confirmed by a source I trust implicitly. "
" He is no outsider however. This young boy is the son of my student. Thus, the Heir to the Senju Clan. " I have to laugh then. The three of them look so shocked.
After giving them a moment to recover, I inform them of most of what the boy and his mother have told me. Silence reigns in my office for awhile then. It's Koharu who speaks again.
" While I still think that Tsunade is a petulant brat, I agree with her decision. It was for the best that the boy grew up in anonymity and safety. "
" With everything that has happened in the village since the Fox attacked, the boy's safety could not have been assured. Things have settled now and it's good that the Senju are returning. The Village can only benefit. "
After hearing her out, the other two nod as well. That's when I speak again. " This brings me to another issue I want to address. "
" The number of prospective Genin is uneven. It was even before young Hatorama arrived. Initially, I was going to put Yakumo Kurama on a team with Sasuke Uchiha and Naruto Uzumaki under Kakashi Hatake. "
" I've now changed my mind. While I was briefly tempted to put the boy with Sasuke and Naruto, that would in hindsight, be a disaster. "
" No, instead I'll place the civilian born Sakura Haruno on a team with the boys. I'll put Hatorama and Yakumo on a team. They'll be a member short however. That's where you come in Danzo. I'll require a third member. "
He pretends to consider it. I know he'll do it though. The chance to have the boy's abilities evaluated are too big a temptation.
" You make valid points Hiruzen. It just so happens that I have an operative the proper age. He will be there to meet the team at the designated time and place. Who will be their Sensei? "
It's not actually an easy answer. Short of the Clan Heads, I could only find one candidate strong enough.
" That is a difficult question. Yakumo requires someone that has Jounin level skills in genjutsu, while Hatorama requires a ninjutsu master. "
" Discounting the four of us, outside of Anbu, there are only two shinobi currently in our forces that meet that criteria and Kakashi is needed for Sasuke and Naruto. "
Homura frowns. " Hiruzen you can't mean..." I interrupt him. " There is nobody else with the skill. Their Sensei will be, Anko Mitarashi. "
After arguing the point back and forth, they finally agree. Once they're gone, a smirk appears on my face. With a single handsign, two clones appear. They immediately make for my desk to finish my paperwork. I set off home. Early for the first time since I was a Genin myself.
