Hey all! This is my first Supernatural fanfic. It was inspired by a tumblr post I saw about Jimmy singing in Castiels head whenever he and Dean are doing that thing where they stare at each others eyes to the exclusion of all else. You know, that thing they do like twice an episode. You can find me (and this story) on tumblr hawaiianpurplewolf.
Jimmy was absolutely sick of this crap. Being a vessel, that is. I mean, really, not only is it uncomfortable, painful ("like being strapped to a comet"), extremely invasive, and just plain weird - but Jimmy also had to endure the angel's - Castiel's - complete and utter inability to process or, heck, identify his own emotions, which Jimmy could clearly feel coursing through his body (yes, his body, not Castiel's, it was his body, the seraph was just taking a ride to save the world). Especially around the Winchesters; especially around Dean.
Jimmy had tried to break it to the angel gently: "Isn't it a little weird how you'd do anything for the guy?" "Hey, ever thought about your little 'profound bond' you share?" "For someone who isn't supposed to have emotions, you sure have a lot of affection for that Dean guy", but the angel just shrugged him off. It wasn't until Dean decided to share the wonders of Disney with Castiel that Jimmy saw his chance.
They were in the middle of a movie called Hercules, and one of the characters, Megara (Meg, as she was called - a shortening of the name, the first of many similarities between her and Castiel; or should he say, Cas?), was vehemently denying her attraction to and affection for the hero, Hercules.
Jimmy, who had tuned out weeks ago, perked up. Maybe this was his chance to finally - finally - resolve some of the UST between the hunter and the angel. At least get them to talk about it. If not that, if Castiel could at least accept it, then maybe he'd start the conversation, whether Winchester responded positively or not (Jimmy was sure Dean would, eventually, but he did seem pretty emotionally repressed, so maybe not).
The next morning, Jimmy saw his chance and took it. Dean and Castiel were doing that thing - staring into each other's eyes with enough intensity to make every single person around them uncomfortable. What did Sam mutter under his breath the other day? Eye-banging? Yeah, that made sense. Anyway, Jimmy spoke up in Castiel's head like he hadn't in a while.
"Who d'you think you're kidding
He's the earth and heaven to you
Try to keep it hidden,
Honey we can see right through you
Girl you can't conceal it
We know how you're feeling
Who you thinking of"
Castiel's whole thought process stuttered. "Jimmy?"
"Yeah?"
"What are you doing?" Castiel asked.
Jimmy would have rolled his eyes if Castiel hadn't been possessing him. "I'm sure you'll puzzle it out." He refused to say anything more.
It happened again a few days later. Castiel and Dean - they were so often paired together in Jimmy's head he'd started referring to them collectively as Destiel - were eye-banging, and Jimmy started singing in Castiel's head.
"You swoon you sigh why deny it oh oh?
Girl you can't deny it
Who you are is how you're feeling
Baby we're not buying
Hon we saw you hit the ceiling
Face it like a grown-up
When you gonna own up that you got got got it bad?"
"Jimmy," the angel mentally growled at him, "shut up."
"Or what? I'm already being possessed. I've been shot, stabbed, thrown around, and I'm practically strapped to a comet. What're you gonna do?" the vessel asked, then resumed singing, slightly off-key.
"Give up, give in, check the grin you're in love.
We'll do it until you admit you're in love.
Girl don't be proud it's okay you're in love."
Castiel froze. Dean had turned away in time for Castiel to actually pay attention to the last few words. "Say that again," he demanded.
Jimmy repeated the words, not singing this time, changing the words slightly to fit the situation. "I'll do it until you admit you're in love. Don't be proud, it's okay that you're in love."
Castiel's thought whirred and spun around his head to fast for Jimmy to comprehend. "I'm in love," he realized.
Jimmy mentally applauded in relief. "And he gets it, ladies and gentlemen! The angel is in love with the Righteous Man!"
"Oh my God," Castiel said, aloud, causing Dean to turn around in confusion. Since when did Cas take the Lord's name in vain?
Castiel locked eyes with Dean again. "I love you."
Later, when Cas and Dean retold their story, Jimmy would always chime in - "the idiots needed my karaoke skills before they figured it out."
