After a long break from writing, there it is finally, my first Chicago Fire fanfic. Brettsey all the way!

I really wanted it to be out before tomorrow's episode so I wrote this within a couple days. Please forgive any inaccuracies or mistakes I might have left. I tried to keep it as sweet as those two. Hopefully it isn't too cheesy.

Comments are always welcome! I hope you enjoy!

They had been sitting in the waiting room in silence for most of the morning. They had decided to drive together to Chicago Med straight from the firehouse after shift. At first, Sylvie had kept the conversation light, trying to take Casey's mind off of everything. However, after an initial check-in with Dr Abrams and a head CT, Matt had completely shut down, waiting anxiously for the results to come in.

Sylvie glanced over to her friend. His eyes were fixed on a spot on the floor, obviously lost in thought. His furrowed brow was all she needed to know exactly what he was thinking. His whole career was at stake.

She lifted a hand and put it on his arm, hoping to offer some comfort and reassurance. I'm here. Mindlessly, he covered her hand with his, his mind still a mile away. That was enough to make her heart skip a beat.

For the last two years she had tried to suppress her feelings for him… and completely failed. After that ill-fated night in her apartment, she'd had to face the fact that nothing would ever come of it. Any romantic relationship with Matt Casey was not meant to be. Instead, she'd let herself be charmed by Greg Grainger. They'd dated for a while and she had thought that maybe she could move on. That had come to an end two days ago.

In front of Greg's apartment, Sylvie took a deep breath. She had debuted just calling him to cancel their ski weekend but eventually opted to tell him in person. He deserved that much. She knocked and waited. As soon as he saw her, he'd known. He let her in and closed the door.

"You're not coming, are you?"

"I'm sorry, Greg. Something came up. A friend needs help with… a personal matter."

"Let me guess. Matt Casey?"

"It's not like that…"

"It's okay." he interrupted. He didn't seem angry, just sad. "I knew what I was up against when we got together."

"It's not like that." Sylvie insisted. "Casey and I are just friends. He just needs my help right now."

"I know you mean that. Or that you think you do at least. But you and I both know it's not true."

"I'm sorry Greg. You're a wonderful man and I do care about you…"

"But you're in love with Matt Casey. I can't compete with that."

"Matthew Casey?" A nurse called. "The doctor will see you now."
