Liv, will you please talk to me? Please. Just say something!" Elliot stood in the doorway of Olivia's home. He could hear her behind the door. It swung open and Olivia stood in the doorway, her eyes red and puffy from crying. She was still in her pajamas from the night before, and Elliot could tell something was really wrong.
"Liv, please. Talk to me. Tell me what's going on?!" As soon as the words came out of his mouth, Elliot knew he said the wrong thing.
"What's going on? What's going on?" Liv's words were harsh and borderline cruel. She closed the door behind her and wiped a tear from her eye.
"I loved you, Elliot. I loved you more than anyone else in the world. And what did you do? You left. You just left, out of nowhere." She walked past him into the foyer and into the kitchen to pour herself a glass of amber liquid.
She poured herself a glass, and looked at Elliot. "Ten years, Elliot. You were gone for TEN YEARS. It took me almost that long to move on from you, El. I was doing great. I was finally happy again. I had someone close to me, I had Noah, and I had my job. Then what do you do? You come waltzing back into my life with your drama, and your half-crazed 'I love you's."
She took a long gulp of her drink, and glared at him. "Ever since you came back, El, my life has been an absolute shit show. And now, with your letter, and your telling me you love me during the family intervention, I don't know what to think."
Elliot moved closer to her, doing his best to remain calm. "Liv, I'm sorry. I never meant for any of this to happen. You know that. I'm this close to finding Kathy's killer. I'm getting treatment for my PTSD, Liv. I promise."
He stared at the disheveled woman before him almost longingly. For a moment he was at a loss for words before saying, "I'm sorry about the other night. I didn't mean for those words to come out, but you know what? I don't regret them in the slightest. I DO love you, Liv. You mean the world to me. And I just want things to go back to the way they were. I want us to be partners again. But if you've moved on now, I understand. Just say the word, and I'll leave, and I won't bother you again." He looked down for a moment, hoping she wouldn't ask for the latter.
"You know what," he looked up at her again and turned to leave. "I shouldn't have come back into your life like this. I'm sorry, Liv." He turned to face her once more. "I know you've been through a hell of a lot these last few days, and I'll let you get some rest, but I want you to know that I'm here for you, Liv. I'm here for you." Elliot turned again and headed for the door.
Olivia closed her eyes and sighed, and as his heel hit the foyer, she softly replied, "El, wait."
He paused. He didn't turn around this time. Before he knew it, she was standing right there in front of him, looking into his eyes.
Olivia embraced Elliot in a tight hug, one that reminded her of their previous relationship. It was like going back in time ten years, when they were as close as they ever were. She could tell he felt the same.
After a few moments, Elliot broke the silence between them. "Liv, I— where do we go from here?" She released him and looked up into his blue eyes, and placed both her hands on his chest. "We start fresh, El. We continue where we left off ten years ago, and we go from there."
Elliot put his hands on her shoulders, his hands remembering how tense her body always was. "So what does that look like, Liv? How do we start back over?"
Olivia put a soft hand on his cheek, and kissed him gently on the lips, something she had waited a long time to do. She lingered for only a brief moment when Elliot seemed to get the gesture and reciprocated the kiss, responding gently at first before putting a hand to her cheek and pulling her closer to him. Olivia smiled into his lips and kissed him fervently now, and finally answered the question she'd been asking herself for years: how would Elliot's lips taste?
After a few minutes of rekindling, they stopped, and just stared at each other for a moment. "Liv, that was—" Elliot could hardly find the words to say. "Liv, I can't tell you how long I've waited for that to happen." He smiled at her.
She smiled back at him, and chuckled lightly. "It was definitely better than I thought it would be, too, El."
They laughed together and pressed their foreheads together gently, basking in their new found, re-formed relationship.
