Merlin wasn't always particularly up-to-date with holidays. But once he heard about this one, he knew he had two trips to make.
A small dragon carving he had whittled to lift his spirits during one of his dark days was left to rest atop the moss covered cairn, wings spread proudly over the fallen dragonlord.
Merlin looked at it silently for several moments, bowed his head, and walked on.
Hours later, he reached his second destination. Setting his basket beside the grave, he pulled out a flowering bundle of medicinal herbs and two bowls of porridge.
"Happy Father's Day, Gaius."
A/N: Reading a Father's Day drabble by UltraGeek (love her stuff!), I was struck by the image of Merlin spending Father's ay beside Gaius's grave, and it demanded to be written. It took a bit of work to get down to 100 words- mad props to regular drabble writers! It is tricky. Anyway, hope you enjoyed my brain's bittersweet angst. If so, (or if not), leave me a review and let me know!
Have a fantabulous day! Elen out.
(PS. Sorry if anyone got a notif and it was gibberish, for some reason likes to change my copy-pasted docs into weird code when I save them. It hasn't been doing it lately and I forgot to check first this time. But here's the fixed version!)
