Artemis/Wally is a thing and Bart/Zatanna is a thing + Jade/Roy, but those are mostly off screen/referenced, Paula/Giovanni is mainship.

Zatanna's world had been black and white until color suddenly exploded into it. It all came crashing in when she met him. The speedster, youngest sidekick and son of Flash, Bart Allen AKA Impulse. Colors were new to her, so she asked her friends what they were. That was how her and Artemis ended up in her living room, watching tv.

"This is green," Artemis pulled on her sweater sleeve. "A lot of things are green. Grass, tree leaves, plants and some bugs. Trust me, you get used to it."

Zatanna nodded. "Okay.." she sighed, leaning back against the couch. She had just realized something. She could see colors, something she couldn't see before..

"You good?" Artemis asked, reaching for her bag of popcorn.

"No, I mean.. yeah but.." she groaned, looking to a photo of herself and her dad. "My dad can't see in color."

"Oh. I'm sorry. Did your mom, ya know, go peacefully?" Artemis asked very cautiously.

Zatanna shook her head. "No, I mean she's alive. She met her wife and now she can see in color. My parents, they weren't meant to be romantically involved. They do love each other, but I think they were always meant to, ya know?"

Artemis shrugged. "I guess, like best friends right?"

"Yeah." Zatanna nodded with a smile. "They still get along well, I just.. I wish he could see in color." It wasn't fair.

"My mom can't see in color either." Artemis said, looking at her. "I always thought it was because she and my dad split. But Jade, after she met Roy- no, we can't do anything because it'll end badly for everyone.." she looked at her friend. "But she said that this whole thing kinda freaked her out. So, I guess Crusher wasn't mom's soulmate."

"Did you meeting Wally freak you out?" Zatanna asked, laying on her stomach now. "Meeting Bart was kinda like what seeing through a kaleidoscope is described as. Colors everywhere."

"It was.. yeah, kinda like a kaleidoscope. But stupider." Artemis said, pulling out some flash cards of colors. "Okay, quiz time."

Zatanna gave a soft chuckle, catching sight of her dad in the doorway, and giving him a small smile that he returned. He must have returned home from shopping. Thankfully he went right to the kitchen with a vague reply about making them all something to eat.

Did Giovanni mean to make Zatanna feel like this? No. It was a conversation that they had had shortly before Artemis came over. He was happy that she had found happiness, telling her that he didn't mind at all that he still saw the world in black and white, actually he was excited for her to start picking put a favorite color and to dress in whatever colors she wanted and surround herself with them. To live her life in a world that he would perhaps never be a part of, to watch from the outside as her world became varying shades of black and white to his eyes that she could tell him the name so he could get a vague idea of the different shades he could see.

After a late lunch was made, Artemis had to leave.

"Did you want us to walk you home?" Giivanni asked, looking at Artemis as he put away the soup and sandwiches from lunch.

Artemis nodded, "yes please." It was dark and even though she knew Gotham like the back of her hand, but seeing colors still disorientated her.

Giovanni nodded, "Zatanna, get your coat."

Zatanna, who had been sitting on the couch and texting Bart, looked up. "Sure." She got her coat and sunglasses, as well as an overnight, standing next to Artemis. "Ready." When she got a raised eyebrow, she said, "Artemis mom said it was okay."

Giovanni rolled his eyes playfully, "alright. Just this once."

The three walked through the zetatube to Gotham. They walked to Artemis' apartment, mapping out where it was when they were on the ground. They walked up to the door of Artemis' apartment.

"Mom! I'm home!" Artemis walked in, seeing the mismatched colors of her apartment from her mom's inability to see colors. It was home. "I brought Zatanna for a sleepover."

"Hello dears." Paula said as she rolled out to meet them, a smile on her face. Then she noticed Giovanni. "Hello, you must be Zatanna's father. I'm Paula." She offered a hand to him.

"Pleasure to meet you, Paula." He took her hand. "I'm Giovanni."

When they shook hands, Giovanni saw.. something. The world wasn't black and white, but.. what was this? He looked at Paula, surprised, to see she had the same look.

"D- did you uh.." Giovanni began. "I mean um.. Don't things.."

"Things don't look black and white now?" Paula asked, smiling at him. "I like your eyes."

"What?" Zatanna dropped her bag, smiling as Artemis also dropped her bag in shock. "Oh my god!" She ran to them and hugged them both.

Artemis watched them and smiled, walking over to them. She and her mom looked from Giovanni hugging Zatanna, with tears in his eyes, to each other.

"So.. you found him." Artemis said, smiling at her as she put a hand on her shoulder. "How do you feel?"

Paula wiped her eyes, "I'm happy. I'm so very happy."
