There once was a shrine maiden who lived on the eastern side of a fantastical paradise.

Her duty was to keep the balance between the residents of that paradise.

But she often wished that she could take more time to attend to her own desires.

But that would be selfish and unbecoming of a person of her stature.

So she refused to acknowledge that conflict.

One day, she was tasked with resolving an incident.

The incident wasn't unusual or unique, as she had already resolved several occurrences such as this one in the past.

But on this particular morning, the shrine maiden felt quite lethargic.

As a being who preferred to float through life, the shrine maiden preferred to travel at her own pace, so that fortune would favor her lackadaisical nature.

She decided that if she had set out immediately, she would have been distracted and her good fortune would be hindered.

So the shrine maiden decided that it wouldn't hurt to have a small cup of tea before she departed.

She poured some lukewarm liquid into her favorite cup, held the cup up to her lips, smiled, took a deep breath, and consumed the portion of tea in one gulp.

She coughed, as she had swallowed her tea too quickly.

She coughed again, as she couldn't breathe.

She coughed a third time.

She began to wheeze and gasp as there was no one around to help her on this very fine morning.

She finally went limp, collapsing on the floor with a soft thunk.

And so, the shrine maiden quietly passed away.

All because of an innocuous moment of selfish desire.

How pitiful.
