Chapter 1: Liza Marie saves Quinn
While overseas Noah Puckerman was on Skype with his wife Quinn and Liza Marie Anderson the daughter of Kurt and Blaine Anderson. When Quinn started acting funny and was slurring her words. Soon Quinn passes out and Liza Marie is calling the base hospital saying, "Hello, This is Private Puckerman's niece Liza Marie Anderson. Yes, Congressman Hummel's granddaughter. Anyway, my Auntie Quinn was on Skype with my Uncle Nono when she passed out. She was sounding funny before she passed out like someone that had too much beer. But I know she wasn't drinking that because she is pregnant." Then there was a pause before Liza says, " Okay, thank you, Bye." Soon she looks at Noah and she says, "Uncle Nono, I got to go and call Mr. Fabray. I'll have Dada call you to let you know if the baby and Auntie Quinn are okay."
It wasn't until the next day, while on Skype with Kurt that Noah found out Quinn was in a coma after having a stroke. After the Skype call, Noah requests for an early leave, and as soon as he came home. Burt met him at the airport saying, "Did Kurt ever tell you about what happened to my first wife?" Noah shook his head no before saying. "I know she was sick and her death was why Kurt stopped believing in God. Sorry about the rumors that started after my dad left around the same time. It was one of the reasons I bullied Kurt and I am sorry for that too." This made Burt pull over onto the side of the road and say, "Your Dad was Elizabeth's ex-boyfriend and unlike Finn. He never got over the breakup or me taking her from him and I know Nick raped Norah. Anyway, Elizabeth died from a stroke and your dad took it harder than I did."
Then Burt sees the look on Noah's face knowing he is thinking about Quinn. So he says, "She's strong Puck. Don't worry Quinn is not like Elizabeth and I am sure she's going to be okay." Noah could hear the doubt in Burt's voice and says, "I don't believe you here, Mr. H., and I bet this is just opening up old wounds." Burt doesn't say a word and starts driving to the hospital. As Noah says, "Look, I hope you are right here, Mr. H., but I am afraid of going through the same stuff you did. Quinn is my everything and I don't know what would happen if she died."
Then Burt says with a chuckle, "Well, I hope your daughter never does what Kurt did." Which made Noah say, "I was the first one to figure it out and he was too stubborn to admit it. Ha, I am surprised that you didn't overhear any of our conversations and I can't believe that Kurt never crushed on me. I mean after finding out that you were like me as a kid." This makes Burt say, "Ha, I bet when it comes to your daughter that you'll be just like I was with Kurt." To which Noah says, "I have a gun closet full of weapons that you would be envious of." Then Burt says, "I'm so glad you had Kurt sneak into Dalton Academy so he could meet Blaine. God, if you were gay all the girls you were with in high school would have killed him!"
When they got to the hospital, they saw Kurt yelling at Blaine, and heard him say, "I can't go see her, Blaine! This is like my mother all over again! Hell, even dad felt it! He didn't volunteer to pick up Puck so he won't see Santana break down! He did it because all this reminded him of my mom dying!" As Noah got out of Burt's truck he says, "Hey Kurt, why don't we go in there together?" Then Noah put his arm around Kurt's neck before saying, "We'll face this together. Besides, I'm not breaking down on Sam's shoulder. Plus, I would feel better if you and Burt were the ones going with me here."
As they entered the hospital room that Quinn was in Noah's legs started to feel like jelly and Burt was having to hold Noah up. Soon Noah takes Quinn's hand as he set down by her bedside and began to cry. Then he looks at Kurt before saying, "Now, I understand why you stopped believing in God. I know I wasn't the best Jew in the world growing up, but I have changed a lot. I go to temple more, I'm even reading my bible, and I am not like my dad was. I am a better man than I was before and now God is going to take my world from me like he did your dad! Why?!" No one said a word for half an hour. Before Liza Marie came in with Carole and when Noah sees Liza Marie. He takes her into his arms after she ran to him crying. Then Noah pulls Liza Marie onto his lap and says, "Thank you for saving her, Squirt."
Liza Marie broke the silence saying, "I was so scared, Uncle Nono. I thought Auntie Quinn was going to die and I was trying not to let you see me cry. I hope she is not like Nana Elizabeth and I hope your daughter is okay. Auntie Quinn told me she wanted to name her Elizabeth because she thought she was like her and she wanted another Beth in her life. Plus, she wanted her middle name to be Marie because if it wasn't for me being your best buddy. She thought you would go back to being like you were when she had Aunt Beth." Soon they were both crying and the others were silently sobbing.
That night Burt and Noah were the only ones left in Quinn's hospital room. When Noah says to Quinn, "Babe, I hope you can hear me and I am really sorry it took me so long to get here. Please, fight this babe. I can't lose you and I don't know what I would do without you. You are not like Elizabeth and I know you will wake up." Then Noah closes his eyes and begins to pray again, "Please, save her, Lord. I can't lose her here. I just can't! Please let her live and be okay." Soon Noah is sobbing and Burt squeezes Noah's shoulder before praying himself, "God, Puck is a good man here and I know he will get through this. I just don't want him to be as broken-hearted as I was when I lost Elizabeth. I know you have a plan for him here, Lord. I just hope that Quinn is a part of this plan and that you let her live through this. Amen."
At one point in the night, Quinn's heart monitor started going off and this freaked out Noah. Yet, Burt remained calm and was trying to make sure Noah was as well. This happened three more times during the night and by the third time Noah says, "How can I stay calm, Mr. H?! I want to scream, I am so mad at God right now! That is my family and my world! This is not freaking fair! How can God do this to me?! I am not like you and I will never get over this if they die! You had Kurt! I won't have anyone!" Burt just put his hands on Noah's shoulders and says, "Puckerrman, this is not God's fault here and Quinn is a strong woman! She will live! Now, calm down. I doubt that Quinn wants to see you like this when she wakes up!" Then Burt started to chuckle before saying, "And no you are not like me. I would have thrown things around the room and threatened to bring a flame-thrower or something."
This made the two men laugh before Noah says, "Don't give me any ideas here, Mr. H., and thanks. Did you have anyone to talk to when Kurt's mom was in the hospital?" Burt just looked at Quinn before saying, "Just the guys at the shop, but they had no clue what I was going through. I mean they did help, but it wasn't enough, and I couldn't tell Kurt everything." Soon the two men were sitting at the table in the room and Burt says, "I stepped down as a congressman and bought back the shop. So, if you want some help taking care of Quinn when you are overseas. Let me know, okay?" Noah looks at Quinn as he says, "Thanks, Mr. H. Ha, and I really appreciate you being here with me through all this. I mean my friends are one thing, but I feel like you are like the father I always wanted. Ha, don't tell Kurt that though, we'd never hear the end of it." This made Burt chuckle before saying, "I felt like you were my son when Finn was and you better keep that to yourself too."
