A/N: This one shot was commissioned by Ekimmak, who wanted to see a crossover pair between these two characters! This is an offbeat, but still cute romance, in my opinion. Enjoy, my readers!
"Makoto, I'm booooored!"
Makoto Niijima let out a sigh as she heard this familiar refrain. "I am almost done with my school work for the day. Have you finished your own homework yet?"
"Ibuki works better when she has a nice reward at the end of it," Ibuki Mioda said, winking. "Could you give me an idea of what reward you'll give me?"
"You want some kind of reward? It made sense, in an Ibuki kind of way, and Makoto considered this. "We've probably been inside for too long, and getting some sun would do us some good. So once we're both done with our school work, we can have a picnic."
"You know exactly what I want! That's what makes you such a smart, mindful girlfriend!" Ibuki exclaimed, swooping in to give Makoto a kiss on the cheek.
"I will personally be making sure that you've actually done what you're supposed to," Makoto said firmly, even as her tone was belied by the blush on her face. "So don't think you can goof off."
"Wouldn't dream of it, darling!" Ibuki said, winking again.
At the surface, Ibuki seemed like a girl with an irreverent attitude, joking about everything. But Makoto knew better- the musician rarely did anything without a purpose, even if that purpose only made sense to Ibuki herself.
Makoto had felt her eyes start to glaze over from the dull nature of her school work before Ibuki's interruption. She doubted it was a coincidence- Ibuki could be pretty good at picking up when Makoto felt down, and usually engaged in silly antics to counter it.
"I'm done! I don't know if the teacher is expecting these answers, but Ibuki thinks that they deserve points for cleverness!" Ibuki handed her homework to Makoto, who looked it over quickly. Most of the answers were correct, but Makoto made a note to tutor Ibuki on her weak spots.
""I suppose you did pretty well. You earned a nice reward, Ibuki, but I'll have to ask you to wait a little longer." Makoto decided to try her own attempt at flirting. "If you are patient, then you'll enjoy what I have planned even more."
Ibuki clutched her chest. "That was a direct hit to my heart! Even if I must be apart from you, I'll wait for as long as necessary!"
Makoto felt her face burn as she walked to her own room, leaving Ibuki in the living room. Makoto wasn't good at flirting, yet Ibuki reacted as if it were the smoothest seduction in the world.
It didn't take long for Makoto to change for more appropriate clothes to go out- a black leather jacket over a white blouse and black jeans. This would be the first time that Ibuki would ever see Makoto wearing this.
As Makoto stepped back into the living room, Ibuki turned to face her. Ibuki's eyes widened, and her mouth fell open. The outfit accomplished the impossible, stunning the loud musician into silence.
"Are you going to get ready to go out?" Makoto asked, smirking to herself. "Because we could always stay in if you aren't up to moving."
Ibuki recovered from her surprise, and she let out a wolf whistle. "I won't lie, I'm tempted to stay in so I can appreciate how gorgeous you are in private! But I think the best way to celebrate finishing our homework is a nice picnic!"
"Okay, don't get too carried away, Ibuki." Although she was right that a picnic would be nice. "I have somewhere in mind, so we'll take my motorcycle there."
Leaving the motorcycle where Makoto lived, she took two helmets, one for herself and the other for Ibuki. Both girls put them on without comment, and when Makoto mounted her motorcycle Ibuki seated herself behind her, immediately putting her arms around Makoto's waist.
"Hang on tight." Makoto revved up her motorcycle, and a part of her felt as if she were back on Johanna. Ibuki rested her head on Makoto's back, hugging her tighter.
Before long, Makoto was driving through the streets of Tokyo, skillfully navigating the afternoon traffic. Before they left, Makoto packed a blanket that was currently stored in a box attached to the back of the motorbike.
What they didn't have was food to eat, and there hadn't been any food in the fridge at Makoto's apartment. So when she spotted a convenience store, Makoto parked the motorbike and got off.
"You're driving is as amazing as always!" Ibuki exclaimed as she took off her helmet. "It makes my heart race in the best way possible! What would complete the experience is if I could feel the wind in my hair!"
"If this is your way of trying to get permission to not wear your helmet, the answer is no," Makoto said firmly. "I'd rather be safe whenever possible."
A disappointed look crossed Ibuki's face, before she covered it up with a smile. "I definitely appreciate that you look out for me, Makoto! I definitely feel safe in your arms!"
Makoto reminded herself that proper motorcycle safety wasn't being unreasonable, especially not in a city as busy as Tokyo. In the convenience store, the two girls perused some prepackaged bento.
"Ibuki thinks that it would be cute to have a bento shaped like a heart," Ibuki said, looking over their options. "But that sort of thing you need to do by hand!"
"Maybe next time." Makoto considered what would be both delicious and healthy, and bought some bento boxes that had egg, vegetables, and fruit. After buying them, Makoto gave the bentos for Ibuki to hold, before getting back on the motorbike.
Makoto drove with a clear destination in mind, and the city of Tokyo slowly gave away to trees and fresh air. Soon enough, the lake of Inokashira Park came into view. After parking the motorcycle again, Makoto lay the blanket on the ground near the lake, while Ibuki brought in the bento boxes.
"Hang on, before we eat I want to do something real quick!" Ibuki opened one of the bento boxes, and used a pair of chopsticks to poke around inside of it. When she finished, she handed the bento box to Makoto.
Looking down at it, Makoto discovered that Ibuki had arranged the food in the shape of a heart, and she started blushing. "Of course you remembered that. I almost feel bad that I have to eat this arrangement."
"I wish I could have brought a guitar with me! Sitting by the side of a lake with a pretty girl is the perfect time to sing a serenade," Ibuki said, grinning. "Of course I'd write one just for you, Makoto!"
"Umm, that could be something that happens in the future. Much, much later in the future." Makoto heard Ibuki's discography before, and there was certainly no denying that she was talented. But some of Ibuki's music had the same impact as seeing Haru wielding an ax.
Thankfully, Ibuki didn't press on that, and opened her own bento box before digging in to eat. The cool evening air and the setting sun did make for a beautiful atmosphere. As they ate, the two girls admired how the sunlight made the lake's water glitter.
When Ibuki finished eating, she scooted over closer to Makoto, laying her head on her girlfriend's shoulder. Makoto silently put an arm around Ibuki's waist, pulling her close.
"I really am glad we got to have this date today," Ibuki said. "You're going to do so many amazing things in the future, Makoto! You're going to be the greatest police commissioner in history! You'll just also end up being really busy too, so I'll have to learn to be extra patient!"
Makoto leaned in to kiss Ibuki on the forehead. "You don't want to admit that you'll feel lonely, do you? I understand. Because in my life, I've felt lonely because my dad or my sister were too busy sometimes. Which is why I want to make sure that I make time for you, Ibuki."
"I'll definitely give you a VIP pass to any and all of my concerts, Makoto! Maybe I could even convince you to join in on a performance!" Ibuki said cheerfully.
"Let's not do too many things at once."
This date could not last forever. The sun eventually set beneath the horizon, the night blanketing Inokashira Park. Makoto packed up the blanket while Ibuki found a nearby trash can to discard the now empty bento boxes. As she waited for her girlfriend to come back, Makoto thought to herself, This was a nice day, but it feels like it's missing something. Ibuki suggested something earlier, and I won't lie, a part of me wants to do it too.
"I'm back, Makoto!" Ibuki exclaimed. "I don't know when we will next meet, so I'll make sure to hold onto you extra tight on the motorcycle ride back home!"
"We aren't going directly home yet. I'm sure that you want to see the stars while we're on the motorcycle," Makoto said, smiling. "So I'll drive slowly around the bike path a few times. If you don't want to wear your helmet, it would be fine for a few minutes."
The joy on Ibuki's face was blinding, and the musician quickly hugged Makoto and kissed her on the cheek. "You're the best, Makoto!"
Ibuki excitedly got back on the motorcycle, seating herself behind Makoto like last time. Revving up the motorcycle, Makoto drove onto the designated bike path, making sure to not go too fast. Since Ibuki hadn't worn her helmet, Makoto decided to do the same.
The bike path went into an area where there weren't trees, giving way to a clear view of the sky filled with stars. A gentle breeze ruffled Makoto's hair.
"I knew that feeling the wind in our hair would be the best!" Ibuki followed this up by hugging Makoto tightly, and Makoto could feel her girlfriend's heartbeat racing away.
Or maybe that was Makoto's own heart, filled with the thrill of the moment, even as a part of her wished it would last forever.
A/N: As a reminder, I am taking commissions at any time, so go to my Tumblr blog to see if you are interested. Crossover pairings are definitely something I enjoy writing, if you have an idea yourself. See you next time! Please review.
