I do not own Shugo Chara, nor the song "drivers license" by Olivia Rodrigo (which this story is based off of). All rights belong to their respective owners; the only thing I did was create a more detailed storyline based off of these other stories.

Hope you enjoy!

"I finally got my license!" A young girl exclaimed into her mobile as she stood leaning against her car, which was parked right in front of the DMV. The jingle of her keys could be heard as she pumped a fist into the air.

"That's great Amu-chan! Congratulations!" The person on the other line replied.

"Thanks Nagi," the pink-haired girl smiled even though he wouldn't be able to see it, "so if you ever need anything, I can get to you faster than Superman." She made sure her joking manner came across in that last comment.

They both shared a good laugh before saying their goodbyes. Amu stepped into the driver's seat and looked down at her phone. She scrolled through her contacts and tapped on a familiar name, excited to tell him all about her good news. A somber feeling washed over her and the girl's face fell at the realization of who she was planning to call. She continued to stare at the screen with an unreadable expression. A few moments passed before she decided to shut off her phone and threw it into the passenger's seat beside her. She stuck the key into the ignition and drove away. Unsure of where she wanted to go, the seventeen-year-old settled upon following wherever her heart told her to follow.

Two distinct chuckles could be heard bouncing off the walls of the room, one deeper than the other, but both equally full of joy.

The pair were sitting on her bed reading a gag manga together when the main character was about to beat their "arch nemesis" in a race, but tripped on their own shoelaces and fell with their fingertips barely skimming the finish line (but not over it, therefore losing the competition).

"How does that even manage to happen?" Midnight-blue eyes turned to stare at the girl next to him with an amused gaze. "Actually," his smile turned into a smirk, "some people could manage to do that." He playfully looked her up and down to get his point across.

"W-What are you talking about!" The girl rose from her criss-crossed legs position on the bed to shift to sitting upright on her knees. This way, her stature could (slightly) tower over the man next to her, so she could have better access to the head she'd have so much fun hitting for the next few minutes.

"Baka," slap, "no good," slap, "kitty-cosplayer!"

"O-ow! Hey!" The boy raised himself from the near-fetal position he had been reduced to, which didn't work out in the girl's favor. The pinkette, surprised by his sudden movement, lost her balance and hopelessly waited for her body to hit the hardwood floor.

Her face squeezed together in anticipation, but opened her eyes again when she felt her wrists being gripped tightly. Half her body was now dangling upside down from the bed as she stared at the beautiful boy above her. Her breath caught in her throat, she could only continue to get lost in his pools of blue. The blue-haired male pulled her up back onto the bed, retrieving her from her thoughts. She tried to hide the blush quickly rising to her face, but to no avail.

Amu smiled at the memory. Those were the good days. She let out a heavy sigh as if to release a weight she'd been carrying for far too long. The buildings and streets passed by her in a blur. Her hands gripped the steering wheel just a little bit tighter at the thought of what came after that memory.

Deciding that changing the subject would be the best course of action, she tried to think of what started this whole mess… the race! That's right! "Hey Ikuto," her honey-eyes glazed with excitement.

"Hm?"

"I'll be getting my license in a few months!"

He couldn't help but smile at her cheerfulness. "Finally, then I don't have to drive you everywhere anymore," he teased.

She simply stuck a tongue out at him.

"Well, when that day comes, prove it to me and drive to my house. It'll surely be a monumental day in Hinamori Amu's life, I wouldn't want to miss it." He flashed his signature smirk, "Maybe I'll even treat you to some ice cream."

The teenager looked at her surroundings and found she had driven into a neighborhood. Curious, she started making what she thought were random turns. But deep within her subconscious, she was following a path she had seen a few times in her life with a certain blue-haired friend.

She turned at another intersection when it hit her. She slowed down to get a better look at what was in front of her. That tree. Her heartbeat thumped hard against her chest as she pulled to a stop in front of that house.

"Ikuto! What are you doing!?" The frantic girl strained out to the man currently climbing a tree that coincidentally made a perfect pathway to the balcony.

The man in question ignored her worried outbursts and climbed over the balcony railing. Sliding open the door, he disappeared into the house. The pinkette's attention shifted at the sound of the front door being opened. Innocent golden eyes stared in a mix of awe and confusion at the boy before her. I guess she shouldn't have expected anything less from someone with cat-like reflexes.

"Why don't you just leave a spare key under the mat like normal people do?"

"What? And make it less fun? I don't think so, Strawberry."

Amu reached a hand up to her face to wipe away the streak of moisture that had managed to glide down her cheek. How could he leave so easily? Her attention moved from the tree to the "For Sale" sign posted in the front yard of that house. Just like that?

The girl changed the gear from 'park' to 'drive' and continued on her way, out of that neighborhood. "He's probably with that blonde girl," she whispered. Despite the sullen feeling coursing through her chest, her face held no emotion.

She was beautiful, gorgeous even! And looked to be around Ikuto's age. Her long blonde hair was gracefully curled at the end and her sky blue eyes seemed to just pierce right through you.

"This is Lulu. Lulu, this is Amu." He introduced the two girls to each other and stared at his best friend with a hint of nervousness.

"So you're Amu-chan!" She extended a hand for her to shake. "I'm Lulu de Morcerf Yamamoto, Ikuto's girlfriend," she smiled at him lovingly then turned her attention back to the younger girl. "You can just call me Lulu, it's so nice to finally meet you! Ikuto-kun talks about you all of the time."

Her golden eyes were glued to the hand in front of her, trying to process everything that just happened. She looked up to the girl in front of her and took her hand. "Nice to meet you, too." The young teen took out her phone and checked the time. "Well, if you'll excuse me, I actually have to go now. I'll see you around." She plastered on her façade and quickly glanced at Ikuto who easily caught the hurt behind her eyes.

"Amu…" But she didn't hear him and walked away. After she was sure they couldn't see her anymore, she let it all go. Hot tears streamed down her cheeks, and she was unable to stop them.

She let out a sigh. "Why does it hurt so much?" Her eyes glistened, but she held back the tears. "How do I get over you?"

She made her way out of that all-too-familiar suburb she used to enjoy visiting so much. She continued driving to nowhere, once again letting her heart take the wheel. "How could I ever love someone else?"

Pink hair fell at the sides of her face as she sat on her bed, hugging her knees to her chest. "Where'd she even come from? Why her?"

The sound of her balcony doors sliding open could be heard, but she ignored it and pushed back her tears. She didn't want to talk to him, let alone see him.

"Amu…"

Silence.

"Amu, what's wrong? I can't help you if I don't know what's wrong." His voice was gentle.

She felt the bed dip and a comforting pair of arms wrap around her. She sighed. "...it's nothing."

"Your tears say otherwise."

"I'm just tired."

"It's useless lying to me."

She removed herself away from his hold and lifted her head to stare into his eyes.

"Fine," her honey orbs hardened, "you want to know?"

He nodded his head and waited patiently for her to continue.

"I-its just," she turned her attention to the floor, "I just thought…" She sucked in a shaky breath. "I thought you said you loved me."

"I do. I'll always love you, but you're a kid, Amu." He gave her a sympathetic look.

'That again.' She thought. It was always that. He always went on about how she was a kid, but she wasn't anymore! "I'm turning seventeen soon! I'm not a kid anymore!" Her voice quivered. "I— I have my drivers test in a little over a month! I can drive you around now!" Her face held a look of hurt as honey eyes clashed with blue ones.

"I'm five years older than you. You're like a little sister to me."

Her eyebrows slanted down in pain. "But," she tried to compose her thoughts, "what about all those times you told me to grow up!? Why would you tell me that if-if-if I'm just a 'little sister' to you?"

"That was years ago, Amu. Before I realized what kind of love I felt for you. When was the last time I said that to you?"

A frown made its way to her features as she did her best to hold back the tears that threatened to fall at any minute. "Oh…"

"I'm sorry, Amu." He went to hug her, but was quickly stopped when he saw her flinch away from him. He looked hurt at this, but understood and backed away. Standing from the bed, he looked at her one more time. "There's something else you should know." He sighed when he realized she wasn't going to look at him. "I'm leaving."

Her attention quickly whipped towards him. "What?" She didn't think her heart could rip anymore, but she was pretty sure she could hear a tearing noise as it thumped hard against her ribcage.

"Lulu's dad heads an international music ensemble. She was able to get me an audition with their orchestra, but it's in France." He smiled at her sadly. "I leave in three days."

Now she didn't know what to feel. Of course it was Lulu. She just had everything Amu didn't, didn't she? Elegant blonde hair, nice curves in all the right places. Amu looked down at what she felt was a sorry excuse for a chest that Ikuto had often teased her about.

But at the same time, she was overjoyed for him! He could finally live his dream of being a violinist and of course it was Lulu who helped him get there. Amu's gaze turned downcast as she realized this. She was just holding him back.

Her upset turned to frustration and anger. How could he just leave? His family was here. She was here. How could he just leave… her? That's what really bugged her. "Fine! Leave then!" She abruptly got off her bed and pushed him out from where he came. "Go live your dream! And don't come back!"

She locked the door and closed her curtains right when Ikuto was about to turn and say something to her. "Don't come back for me…" she whispered to herself and slid to the ground, leaning her back against the curtains. Her head tilted up to the ceiling as she released a sob.

That was the last time she saw him. Maybe if she had done things differently, maybe he'd still be here? Or at least, maybe their relationship wouldn't have turned so bitter. She didn't mean to blow up on him like that, but… he was probably living his life right now. Without her.

"I guess we just weren't made for each other, like I thought." The girl scanned her surroundings once again. Unlike last time, she immediately recognized where she was. "I wonder how he's doing… without me."

She drove around the parking lot and parked in front of a small stage area she and the bluenette had often visited. She recalled all the moments he would play his violin for her here. "The days when I was his number one fan," she smiled with sorrow, "I'm sure he has a bunch of those now."

Melodic notes made their way into the girl's ears as she sat in the grass and listened peacefully with her eyes closed. He finished playing the last chord and let the sound linger in the fresh evening air.

"I don't remember this one, is it new?"

"Yeah, it's for you."

She looked at him in disbelief. For her? What did that mean?

"I'm always at peace with you, so I got inspired to write it. It's about you."

Amu's lips quivered as she tried to smile. Instead, she burst into tears of joy and leapt towards him.

The pinkette let out a long sigh. "He probably didn't mean what he said about that song."

She stared longingly at that place that held now-painful memories. Her mind quickly turned into a haze, forcing her to avert her gaze. Instead, she looked at the phone laying in the seat she threw it in. Deciding that wasn't any help, she whipped her head away and roughly gripped the gear, shifting it from park to reverse, and drove back out into the street.

The light changed from green to yellow as she slowed to a stop at the glowing red light. Her eyes grew wide in shock as she let out a small gasp, "Ikuto?" Across the intersection was a white car that held a blue-haired male in the driver's seat. At a closer glimpse, her heart sank when she realized it wasn't who she was looking for sitting at that steering wheel.

"So much for 'forever'," Amu let out a defeated laugh. Her heart felt like it had shattered into a thousand little pieces. It was as if she couldn't breathe.

The young girl clung to the front of her friend's shirt as if her life depended on it. "How could he do that?!" Her tears soaked through the thin fabric.

They were alone in her dark room, sitting on her bed as he tried to console her. His arms wrapped tightly around her small frame. He soothingly rubbed small circles on her back to calm her shaking figure. "It'll be okay, Amu." He rested his chin on her head. "I'm here for you. Just let it all out."

The pain was unbearable. Memories of her and the boy who just broke her heart raced through her mind. "What did I do wrong?" Her heart-wrenching sobs were unstopping. "Is something wrong with me?"

"Of course not, you're perfect just the way you are. If he couldn't see that, that's his loss. He's just giving you up to someone who would treat you better, someone you deserve." He patted her back. Her sobs had no sign of ceasing anytime soon. "You'll always have me." The older boy lovingly looked down at the girl in his arms. "Forever."

The sound of honking cars filled her ears as she returned to her present reality. How long had the light been green for? The traffic on both sides of her zoomed past. Shaking her head to clear her thoughts, she stepped on the gas pedal and continued on her way. "Why can't I stop loving you?"

She pulled into her driveway. Her keys jingled as she took them out of the ignition. She slowly emerged from her car and shut the door. A quick beep sounded to signal it being locked as the 17-year-old made her way into her house. Shutting the door behind her, that was the end of her first true love.

One week later…

A pink-haired girl sat at the desk in her room working on homework for the English Learning class she had to take.

"I am..." a buzzing noise sounded against the young girl's desk, "...enough." She set her pencil down to pick up the mobile device next to her. Her gaze fixated on the lit up screen, she froze in place. The sight almost made her heart stop.

'You must've gotten your license by now. Congratulations.' ~Ikuto.

En Fin.

So what did you think? Should I continue this story? I would love to know your thoughts! You can leave a review or Private Message (PM) me :) if you would like! Are there other songs you'd be interested in seeing a story out of? I've also been working on some other stories, but I'm not sure if I'll upload them or not.

I have another story currently in progress called "Lifeline" if you want to check it out (Trigger Warning: it has ideations of depression and other mental health conditions). Hopefully I'll update it soon, but I might include the synopsis/snippets of my other stories at the end of chapter 8 (of "Lifeline") once I finally manage to finish it.

Anyways, hope you have a great day/night!
