Prologue

"It's not gonna be the same without you here."

Kagome paused mid-step, and she turned with a small smile on her face. Blue eyes met brown, and she shook her head gently. "It's only gonna be a few weeks," she said. "I'll be back before you know it!"

Sango laughed, unable to help it at the younger girl's enthusiasm. "I know, I know, but…" Sango sighed and looked down. "Things just aren't the same without them around, and it's so lonely when you're gone."

Kagome felt her expression grow strained, and she nodded as she tried to suppress her own sadness at the memory of their two, now deceased, packmates. They'd ended up dying in the final battle for the jewel, but now it was all over and the threat of Naraku no longer remained. He was gone, and he'd never rear his ugly head again.

"I miss them too," Kagome whispered softly as she looked down at the ground between them. "It's been so long, but it's still so hard to accept it."

"We should look at the bright side," Sango said, trying to be strong when she saw the sadness looming in Kagome's eyes. "The well stayed open, and it lets you travel through freely. We still have each other, and that's enough to be glad about."

Kagome nodded in agreement. "It's nice, isn't it?" she hummed softly, eyes straying back to the well she stood in front of. "It's nice knowing I can just come and go between my time and yours."

They stood there, stalling for time and just talking about anything they could think of. It was then that they felt it- a demon heading straight for them.

Sango whirled around to face the direction it was coming from, her hand already prepped and ready on her Hiraikotsu. Kagome pulled an arrow taut on her drawstring, waiting for it to dive from in between the trees.

It lunged at them as soon as it could, sharp claws aiming for the center of Kagome's chest, where the jewel hung from a twine string. She moved as quick as she could, firing the arrow, but it never hit. It seemed to phase through the demon, much to her surprise.

"Kagome, duck behind me!" Sango cried as she swung her Hiraikotsu out in front of her. She slammed it down as they both took cover behind it. The demon hit it and evaporated into nothingness.

"It's gone!" Kagome exclaimed as she peered out from behind Sango cautiously. Not only was its physical form gone, but its aura as well. Sango bit her lip and shook her head.

"I don't think it'd be that easy," Sango responded, and Kagome tilted her head to the side.

"What do you mean?" Kagome asked, but Sango never had time to answer. As suddenly as it vanished, the aura returned, this time from their side.

Sango threw her Hiraikotsu directly at it, but, must like Kagome's arrow, it merely phased through it. Sango narrowed her eyes as it vanished again just in time for her weapon to return to her. "It can hide itself and its aura."

"But why don't our attacks hit?" Kagome asked, confusion evident in her voice. Sango shook her head.

"I'm not sure…" she said, and she hoisted her weapon up again for them both to take cover behind. A second later it clicked, and a surprised gasp came from her. "Wait! The thing attacking us isn't the demon," Sango exclaimed.

"Huh?"

"They're projections of itself. The demon is hidden somewhere," Sango said, and Kagome nodded, finally understanding what she meant. "It has to be close by."

"Maybe it's hiding in the trees?" Kagome suggested, and Sango gave a hum of agreement.

"See if you can find it," she said. "I'll keep us guarded against that thing," Sango nodded at the once-again reformed figure before them.

Kagome fixed another arrow to her bow and once again took aim with it. She scoured the trees for any sign of the demon, for any pulse of its aura to no avail.

There was no warning when the demon ran at them again. As it did, a different burst of energy came from directly in front of them. Neither girl could react quick enough before it slammed into them. It knocked Sango into Kagome, which forced her to stumble back towards the well. Her weight tipped over the lip of the well, and Sango followed her down, unable to catch herself.

Both let out startled cries as they plummeted into the dark abyss, and Kagome was positive for a moment that it wouldn't work. Only Inuyasha and herself were able to pass through the well. Her eyes widened in surprise when a different glow swelled up around them. It was warm, the color a light pink as opposed to the normal blue she'd grown accustomed to.

It did nothing to catch them or slow them down as they fell, unlike the other one did, and they both hit the ground hard. Sango groaned as she sat up, bringing a hand up to rub her aching head.

"Is that what always happens?" she asked as she looked at the other girl beside her. Kagome looked at her, a troubled expression on her face.

"Well, not exactly," she said. "The glow is normally blue, and it slows me down before I hit the bottom of the well. And…" she looked at Sango, and she seemed to get the unspoken point.

"Only you and Inuyasha were able to get through the well," she said, and Kagome nodded.

"Right."

"So how did it work for me?" Sango tilted her head to the side, confused. She looked up, the open sky meeting her gaze. "Are we in your time now, Kagome?"

Kagome craned her head back, blue eyes meeting a sky that differed from the one in the past and the one in her time. "No…" It was cloudy now, opposed to the crystal clear day they'd just been standing under. The well house was nowhere in sight, either. To make matters worse… "This doesn't even have the same aura as the Bone-Eater's Well."

"What?" Sango's shocked gasp made Kagome snap her attention to her. "You mean…"

"I'm afraid so," Kagome said, looking down. "We're lost. I have no idea where we are- or what time it is, for that matter. The well's never done this before."

Sango took a moment to process the words Kagome said, eyes focused on her lap and hands taut. "Well, first things first, we need to get out of here and figure out where we are."

Kagome nodded, pushing herself up. "Right, let's go."

It was with a bit of effort that they got themselves out from the well. Once out, they sat down against the wooden body of it, each breathing a sigh of relief. However, Kagome's relief faded very soon when she realized something about the well at last.

"Wait one second!" Kagome exclaimed as she bolted up, startling Sango, who looked up at her with a puzzled expression.

"What's wrong?"

"This thing doesn't have a hint of magic about it!" Kagome cried.

"What!?" Sango brought both hands to her chest, an alarmed expression replaced her confused one. "Then… that means-!"

"It's sealed and left us here!" Kagome finished for her, horror evident in her voice, and Sango followed her up onto her feet.

"What are we supposed to do now?" she asked, and Kagome looked at her. "We can't just be stuck here!"

"I dunno…" Kagome frowned and looked down. "I don't really know any spells that would make a well unseal. "Maybe if we…" she trailed off, falling deeper into thought when an oddly familiar aura brushed along her senses. She frowned before she recognized it, and she whirled around with her eyes wide. "Am I just imagining thing, or…?"

Sango looked at her, worry shining in her eyes. "What is it, Kagome?"

"I… I think I can feel Sesshoumaru's aura," Kagome said finally, and Sango's eyes widened.

"Really?"

Kagome nodded, and they both stood beside one another as they waited. The aura she felt was getting closer, seeming to be coming right for them. It was only a few minutes later before the treeline rustled, and the familiar silver-haired demon appeared before them.

A vague look of surprise flashed across his features before it vanished. "I wasn't sure what I would find here, but this surely isn't it," he said, his voice that same cold drawl they both knew.

"Sesshoumaru?"

"You've both been presumed dead for centuries now," he said calmly. For a moment, his mind flashed back to the location of that old well from so long ago. All that had been left behind was their weapons and some blood. There was no other trace of them. So, when their scent carried to him through the wind, he was determined to figure out the reason why.

However, now the reason stood right before him, but he still couldn't make sense of it.

"How are you alive?"

"If we knew, then we'd tell you," Kagome sighed. "A demon attacked us and knocked us both into the well. Instead of doing what it should've done, it brought us here."

Sesshoumaru let out a quiet noise as her words sank in. "Interesting." He turned on his heel and began to walk. "Well, should you choose, follow me."

Kagome and Sango spared each other a quick look. What other option did they have? They had no clue where they were or how to get back.

"Do you want to go with him?" Sango asked quietly, and Kagome glanced at him as he walked away. After a second, she sighed and nodded.

"Better than the alternative of stumbling around on our own until we figure out where we are."

Sango relented with a nod, as well. "I was thinking the same thing." Neither of them had weapons, and there was no telling what might happen if they went ahead on their own.

They came to an agreement, both of them running off after him before he got too far away.

C.R: Chapters will get longer as the story progresses, as usual. This will primarily take place in the 40s era (but it might expand to modern time.)

So, for the pairing options:

Either: Kagome/Bucky & Sango/Steve or Kagome/Steve & Sango/Bucky

I'm torn between both options, (as they're both really tempting) so some outside opinions definitely would be a big help!

Anyway, that's it for now! Thank you all for reading, and I hope you enjoyed!

Hopefully I caught all the errors before posting, but if not apologies.

Please remember to Review&FAvorite&Follow, thank you!
