[Reader's POV]
"Cadets! It is now time for the top ten to make their choice of regiment. Choose wisely, as you cannot go back on your decision," Erwin boomed across the stone courtyard.
I flinched, not even sure how I got up here. I was the top of my class, even beating Mikasa who was taking it surprisingly well. I looked over at her and she was too focused on Eren, as usual. I'm starting to think that's why I was able to get away with it unscathed. As long as she can join the scouts with Eren, she's happy. I simply smirked and shook my head. I mean sure, I want to join the scouts too, but not because of some guy. I'm joining because of how my family was massacred along with 20% of the population in the attack on the Shiganshina district. My body burned with hatred for the titans, almost as passionately as Eren's did. I guess I'm a lot like him in some ways.
My thoughts were interrupted as I felt an elbow in my side.
"Are you joining the scouts?" a voice whispered beside me.
It was Sasha. Looking into her eyes I could see the feelings of uneasiness and terror radiating from them. Sympathy for my friend washed over me.
"Sasha, you know I'm joining the scouts. But I fully believe that you should join the military police. Sure I won't get to see you often, but I'm sure we'll run into each other every now and then. There's no shame in choosing to work beside the king," I murmured, trying my best to reassure her it was okay to choose differently.
Her eyes only filled with tears from the weight of her decision as Erwin dragged on in the background.
"Even if I wanted to I don't think I could join the military police after witnessing what happened at Trost. I have to help the scouts so humanity can win... at least once..." she uttered, her wide eyes turning down to stare into the ground.
I lifted my arm to try and console her, missing my food crazy friend who once was able to make everyone around her laugh without trying.
"Sasha, it'll be-"
"YOU TWO! In the front!" a voice shouted from further up.
My eyes shot in the direction of Erven, thinking we were being scolded by the commander himself. However, another voice was shouting from behind him, silencing the courtyard.
"You think you halfwits are exempt from the rest of the group simply because you're in the top ten?"
"No sir!" me and Sasha shouted in unison.
My eyes moved from looking straight ahead and made contact with the black, lifeless eyes of Levi Ackerman, one of the Captains of the Scout Regiment. I could feel my face heat up with what I could only describe as embarrassment. But I couldn't move my eyes away from his gaze.
"Then shut it!" he shouted, not breaking eye contact with me.
"Yes sir!" we yelled back.
Erwin merely started where he left off, dragging on about how much of a struggle the Scout Regiment can be. Levi's eyes simply continued to bore into mine with a look of pure disapproval etched into his face until I was finally able to break my gaze. I couldn't figure out why but my heart was beating out of my chest. From embarrassment? Excitement? Maybe from how intense his gaze was? I tried to shake it off, but it only started beating faster when my name was called to choose.
"Cadets!" Erwin called. "It is now time to make your decision! Will you willingly lay down your lives for the sake of humanity? Will you fight for the freedom of your loved ones and fight for the Survey Corps?"
Boots started to shuffle along the pavement as 80% of the new cadets made their way out of the courtyard. My heart sunk, my thoughts going to all my friends I made who were most likely leaving for other regiments. I felt a hand touch my shoulder and looked up to see Sasha smiling at me. I beamed back, thankful I at least had my best friend going into the scouts with me.
A couple days later, everyone was supposed to be distributed between scout captains, but because of the lack of scouts joining this year, there weren't many to distribute. We were all gathered in a group with the captains in front of us, picking and choosing names. Being the top of the group, I was surprised that I hadn't been called first but I do know for a fact that I'm soft spoken and not well known so I'm sure none of the captains are even aware I exist.
"(L/N)!" an annoyed voice called out.
I quickly moved to do the salute, my eyes then meeting with captain Levi's. He was the one who called me. I quickly made my way through the rest of the cadets, joining Sashsa (thank god) behind captain Levi. His eyes followed me before moving on to his next victim.
'Great, now I'm going to have to do chores all the time.' I thought to myself.
I usually enjoy cleaning, but word spreads around fast and I've heard all about how Levi runs things. I heard once a cadet didn't clean his tea cup thoroughly enough so on the next mission he threw him to the titans. I'm not sure that's entirely true, but feeling Levi's intense stare and seeing the look that seemed to be permanently painted onto his face, I wouldn't put it past him. I simply hoped that he couldn't hear the beating inside my chest. Confused about why I was so uptight around Levi, I started to think.
'Hold on, am I attracted to him?!'
That would explain my nervousness anytime he's around. I've always been into the dark and brooding type, but never that dark and brooding. He seems to hate everything around him and looks into people's eyes with murderous intent. Or maybe that's just his face?
"(L/N), pay attention!" Levi snapped.
Definitely not just his face.
"Yes sir! Sorry sir!" I yelped.
"I said all the imbeciles I have selected are going out on a mission with Erwin tonight. I want you all to prepare for your trip and head over to headquarters to await further instructions." Levi commanded, his eyes travelling over all the rookies.
"Yes captain!" they all shouted in unison.
Everyone started towards headquarters while I frantically searched for Sasha, knowing I didn't hear my name called. Finding her, I asked if she had heard it.
"No, I didn't hear your name either. That must mean Levi wants you doing something else." she replied, waving as she continued with the rest of the group.
She sent back a sympathetic smile, meanwhile my heart dropped knowing I was stuck with the insane clean freak.
"(L/N), your job will be to clean every inch of my building before the others get back. Are we clear?" Levi demanded.
"Yes sir..." I sighed.
Two hours had passed since the other cadets - or should I say scouts - left for their mission. So far I've only been able to scrub the kitchen and bathroom from floor to ceiling, double-checking everything before I moved on. I didn't want to be reprimanded by Levi again... or did I? It seemed to excite me every time he yelled at me or stared at me with those intense glowing coals that were somehow human eyes...
I shook my head to remove these thoughts.
'I can't think like that about my captain, how unprofessional.' I scolded myself.
I started my way upstairs after finishing the hallways and moved on to the first room I came upon. I rested my hand on the brass knob, turning it to open the door. I froze as I found Levi at his desk. He looked up at me, an unimpressed look crossing his face as he rested his forehead on his hand.
"What is it cadet?"
"So sorry sir, I was just coming to clean upstairs since I finished downstairs..." I mumbled.
"You finished down there already?" he asked. "Well it can't have been done that well in that little of time. Come with me, brat. If it's not to my liking, I'll have to punish you."
'Punish me..?' I thought. 'I hope so...'
"No!" I shouted.
"Pardon?" Levi whipped around to face me, his arms crossing in front of him.
"Sorry captain! I just meant - uh - no it'll for sure be to your liking!" I stumbled out.
"Hmph, we'll see about that."
He led me back downstairs, slowly making his way through the main floor. His eyes darted up and to the sides, checking to see if everything was dusted with his finger. He made a couple of "hmph" noises as he moved along through his inspection, checking his reflection in mirrored surfaces or inspecting the floor for any remaining crumbs. My agitation only grew with anticipation for his approval while also allowing my eyes to travel down to his ass. I hadn't noticed until now how well shaped it was. He was only wearing his white shirt currently, so his back could also be seen through the fabric as it was tightly fitted. The muscles rippled and flexed every time he made any motion to check the work I had done. A strange but nice feeling came over the lower part of me as I continued to stare and I entered into a sort of daze as my eyes drifted back down to his ass. Unfortunately, that was perfect timing to the end of his inspection as he turned around and caught me. My eyes shot up to meet his and my face turned all types of red as a look of confusion swept over his face, quickly turning to his usual stern look. "Your cleaning job was almost up to my standards, cadet. If only I hadn't caught you gawking at my ass, then I wouldn't have to punish you." he breathed.

"The room I save for punishment of course. It hasn't been cleaned in over a year and my messiest soldier occupies it. I want it spotless in thirty minutes."
"B-but sir..!" I whine.
"Don't whine to me." he stated. "You wouldn't be in this mess if you had the common decency to keep your eyes off of your captain's ass."
My face turned tomato red once again and in that moment I decided not to utter another word to Levi out of embarrassment. I just got to work right away, and sure enough, within thirty minutes Levi was standing at the door. I had only gotten through dusting and wiping down surfaces, I hadn't even started on the floors yet.
"Why is this not finished?" he boomed.
I just bowed my head, waiting to take the reprimands.
"I'll finish it myself, just go clean up. You're disgusting."
I exited with my head bowed, my pelvis tightened in response to his harsh words. I couldn't believe that his commands affected me like this. Why am I into a man degrading me like that? When I got to the room, I looked for any signage that said women or men, but only found one sign saying "showers".

"Cadet, may I come in?" his deep voice travelled through the door.
"Permission denied." I replied.
"Okay then just listen because I don't do this often and I'll only do it once. I'm sorry for what I said earlier and for intruding on your privacy. I'm just used to seeing everyone the same, so I didn't think anything of joining you in the shower room. Except then I did... and I didn't know how to react. But... whatever. That's it."
I heard footsteps echo back down the hall towards his office. My thoughts raced - what did he mean he did think something of it? Since when does Levi apologize? I've never heard of such a thing. As I reached his doorway, he looked up only to look back down at his papers. I could see a slight tinge of red on his cheeks. Was he... blushing?
"Captain are you alright? Do you have a cold?" I asked, slightly concerned.
"N-no (L/N)... y-you're just..."
I looked down as I realized I was only in my underwear. But confusion came over me.
"You had no problem seeing me naked in the shower before so why are you embarrassed now?" I asked.
"Well you had a problem with me seeing you naked before but now you don't seem to anymore." he stated, still staring at his papers.

Levi looked up before leaving his desk and slowly walking towards me. His hands traced his desk on his way past it, and then he silently shut the door behind me.
