DM Margo and The Runaway Boulder Chapter 1
On Freedonia, high up in the mountains stood a gigantic mysterious boulder. Dru who had once been Gru's long lost brother knew a lot about the boulder. But he hadn't told his family about it yet, not even the first time he'd meet Lucy and the girls. It had been up there for a long time. Nobody knew how long. They probably guess it was about ten hundred years. As matter of fact, just to shock everyone, it might be ten thousand years.
One day, workmen decided to build a quarry in the yard below. Meanwhile in Residential Area at Gru's house, he and Dru were thinking of taking the family back to Freedonia for a vacation. "I do miss our dad's lair, Dru" said Gru. ''Me too brother'' sighed Dru. ''Maybe we should go back there for our next family vacation?'' Gru suggested. ''Good idea!'' said Dru, happily, ''Fritz, my old butler still owns the mansion after I moved out to live with you and your family''.
The two brothers told their plans to Lucy, the girls and the minions. "We're gonna go back to Freedonia?" Edith said, thrilled by what she had heard. ''Yes Edith'' Dru said, ''We'll stay in my old mansion where I first meet you!''. One of the Minions held up a joke box, one of Edith's favourite things, just so they can prank Fritz like last time they visit.
''Don't even think about eet guys!'' Gru growled, ''Fritz told me everything you did to him last time we were there!''. "Awwww..." the Minions echoed all together. ''If you do eet again'' Gru said sternly, ''There will be consequences! Do I make myself clear?''. The Minions all spoke in Minionese, some of them scoffed, and chirped, and reported in agreement. ''Good!'' Gru said, ''We will go in a couple of weeks' time''.
''Dad, I don't know if I want to go back to Freedonia again'' Margo said, ''Cos last time I got chased by a bull and the before that, there was Niko and his engagement cheese!''. "Relax, sweetie'' said Lucy putting her arm around her eldest daughter and winking at her, ''I kicked his mother's butt right outta there so no more harm'll come to ya". "And being chased by a monstrous bull all because of your red jacket that worries you? Well, eet happened ounce but eet won't happen again" added Gru.
''How can you both be so sure?'' asked Margo, uncertainly. ''We won't let those things happen to you again darling'' Lucy said. Margo knew she ought to trust her parents. ''Ok'' she sighed, even though she was still unsure about it. ''That's my girl!'' said Lucy giving her a kiss. When the day came, The Grus set off in Gru's airship. It soared faster and faster over the wide open landscape of the ocean.
''It sure feels strange going back to Freedonia!'' said Edith. ''You'll get used to it Edith'' said Lucy. ''You ladies might even know your way around from last time'' Gru pointed out. "You know that Lucky used to live in Freedonia, too?" Agnes added. ''Yes we do Agnes, you were that desperate to find a real live unicorn and you and Edith went off in tow!'' replied Gru. "Wait a minute! What was Lucky doing out in the forest? And what happened to his family?" Margo asked.
''We don't know Margo! I was too excited about finding a real live unicorn to think anything else, but finding a goat was just as lucky!'' replied Agnes. Lucky bleated and licked her face. ''He probably lost his family the same way we lost our birth families and wound up at Miss Hattie's Home For Girls!'' Edith said thoughtfully. Lucky agreed with Edith and hung his head glumly. He knew what had happened to his family but couldn't speak. But of course, animals don't talk.
Agnes stroked him comfortingly. Margo saw all of this and thought Edith could be right. "I don't blame you, Lucky," she claimed. "But I lost my birth mom, Annie. She died when I was a baby". Of course, Lucky couldn't understand about Margo's or any of the girls past lifes. ''We know all about your birth mom, sweetie'' said Lucy, gently. The girls forget about losing their birth families as they came to land in Freedonia outside, Gru's old mansion.
"YAAAAAY!" Agnes yelled. "WE'RE HERE!". ''FREEDONIA! FREEDONIA!'' chanted all three girls. Gru landed the airship and everyone got off. The Freedonian pigs were there to greet them like last time. They all squealed watching the humans collect their baggage. Fritz came out of the mansion to welcome Dru and the others. "Ah, welcome back, Dru and Gru," he said gratefully. "I was suspecting you all".
''Now I want everyone to be on their best behaviour while we're staying with Fritz, and dat includes you Edith, and all you minions!'' said Gru. They headed inside after Fritz. ''Ok so you'll all be sleeping where you slept last time'' Dru told everyone. Once everyone had sorted out their things, Gru and Dru tried out the trick at the dinner table where each of them pretended to be the other one!
"You boys did that last time! Me and the girls were totally not fooled and amused" Lucy pointed out. Gru and Dru admitted defeat and sat down with the rest of the family for dinner. Dru finally remembered that story he was supposed to tell his family. "Long ago, when Freedonia was an ancient town, many victims work in the cliff yards when something struck" he began. ''What was it?'' asked Edith.
"It was an ancient boulder'' said Dru, ''Nobody can remember the real boulder due to the mountain rock that's been good for many things.
So they left it up there, and there it stays proud and silent in about''. Dru thought for a second, ''Ah! Ten thousand years". Margo gasped "Ten thousand years?! That's a very long time!". ''It is Margo'' agreed Dru, ''I think it still stands up there today! Just watching''.
