Prologue

By: Half-Blood Prince62

"Some say the world will end in fire,

Some say in ice.

From what I've tasted of desire

I hold with those who favor fire.

But if it had to perish twice,

I think I know enough of hate

To know that for destruction ice

Is also great

And would suffice."

-Robert Frost

President Snow sat in the office of the presidential manor, his eyes on a screen as Lucretius Flickerman talked about the most recent election of Presidency and how he, Coriolanus Snow, had just been elected as President of Panem. It had taken 7 long years to claw his way to the top, to have the power he always craved. He turned and walked out onto his balcony, looking over the future runway that would lead the tributes into the start of every games. His eyes scanned the city, its bright lights finally rebuilt after years of construction, the buildings getting bigger, the parties larger. Since he had worked his way up to presidency the Capitol had never thrived more and now with complete and utter power his plans for The Hunger Games would revolutionize them in a way they never had been before.

Coriolanus's thoughts were interrupted as the door to his office flew open and in walked his wife, Augistina Snow. A small smile spread across his lips as he looked her up and down. She work a sparkling gold dress that trailed behind her, her features were sharp with chiseled cheek bones and piercing eyes, much like his own. Augistina approached him and planted a deep kiss on his lips, causing him to pull her closer to him by her hips. After an affectionate moment she pulled away and held his gaze, "You did it." The words formed on her lips as she stared back at him, a similar mischievous smile like his own.

He looked down for a moment and delicately took one of her hands in his and kissed the top of it, holding eye contact with her. "My dear, we did it." He corrected, "I could of never done this without you." The reason Coriolanus was so attracted to Augistina because she shared the same cunning, ruthless and power hungry traits as himself. She pushed him in ways no one else ever had.

Augistina pulled away from him and took a step back, her eyes scanning the office as she took in every single detail. "Perhaps you are right." She said as two of her fingers moved along his desk, turning and looking back at him from behind her own shoulder. "Panem is ours Coriolanus. To do whatever we want with."

Coriolanus smiled more and took a few steps towards her, sticking his hands deep into his pockets. "Indeed it is my dear. Even though we do hold the power, we must sustain it Augistina. Our work is far from over. We have... so much more to do. I have so many plans, specifically for the Games." He said as he opened a draw and tossed a file onto his desk. He watched as his wife turned back around to face him again and took a few steps closer, slowly opening the file.

"You think I don't know that?" Augistina asked as her eyes flickered across each page, reading everything that Snow had written down. "Is this to... instill fear in the District's or the Capitol?" She asked as she looked at Coriolanus, her fingers moving along the desk slowly a second time. "You want to spruce up the games when we are just on the verge of maintaining control. We still have our enemies all around us Coriolanus." She said almost impatiently.

"You think I don't know that?" The newly elected President countered the words his wife had just used on him. "We didn't exactly get here by keeping our soul's intact now did we darling?" He asked and slowly moved around his desk to stand in front of her.

Augistina smiled and scooted back and sat down on the desk, pulling the file out in front of her and began flipping through the file. "You've been thinking about this for a long time, haven't you?" She asked. "Chariot rides... training center in your old Grandmother's home, interviews, sponsors, you really intend on putting on quite the show?" Her eyes skimmed along the papers, designs, schematics all laid out. Through all of these papers it would of clear to anyone how long this was being planned.

Coriolanus stared at her for a long few moments and gently stepped closer, looking down at his wife. "I did and I fully intend on putting on the show of a life time. The games can be so much more then they are and with you wearing a dress like that I'm sure you could help put on quite the performance. We will make the games a symbol for the Capitol to rally behind, support, cheer for. There will be no more rebellion, no more bombs killing our citizens. We will first break the districts and then break their children. We will broadcast them across all of Panem in a larger way then they ever have before. They will be raised by fear of the games, fear of us and you and I my dear will never... lose our power." He breathed out as he moved a hand to her cheek.

Augistina looked up at Coriolanus and smiled more, slowly setting the file to the side. "It sounds almost too good to be true." She said. "We have to replace... all of those who would dare oppose us. Even those who still hold on to the olden days, they all have to go."

Coriolanus laughed a little and shook his head, "Anything for you Augistina." He said and leaned down and kissed her deeply again. Augistina smiled wickedly into into the kiss and pulled him down closer to her, moving her fingers through his hair slowly.

After a few moments she finally pulled away and pushed him off, standing up again. "That's enough, this dress was incredibly expensive." She said and brushed her dressed down more.

Coriolanus chuckled even more then before and shook his head, "From now on Augistina you will have so much more then that Augistina, after all, Snow lands on top." He said and took her hand and kissed it once more.
