"Rizzoli." Jane barked into her phone as she stared disapprovingly at the computer screen. Maura looked over and watched her for a moment before she saw the hurt and sorrow on her friends face. "Oh no." Jane rose to her feet and Maura followed suit, putting their jackets and shoes back on within silence. Once leaving the apartment, Jane finally looked at Maura and told her that they were going back to her High School reunion because someone was killed.
Upon arriving at the scene, Jane looked at the body and realized that it was in fact her old friend, Steve. "You don't have to be here, Jane." Maura spoke calmly to the woman. Jane stifled a cry.
"I want to be here." Maura goes under the police tape and Jane is rushed by Emily and Kate.
"Jane!" Jane pulled the grieving woman to her and apologized and told Kate to take her home. Once she got some of her bearings she ducked under the tape and slowly moved to the body.
"It's Steve Sanders. I knew him, and I was just talking to him an hour ago." Jane informed the other two detectives.
"We got this if you don't want to be here." Frost told Jane in concern.
"No, I need to do this." Jane looked down at Steve and then at Maura. "Maur," Jane moved behind the doctor, Maura looked up. "Stand up."
"Is something wrong?" Maura asked once she was standing in front of her friend.
"No. I just realized I'm not going to let my fears get to me anymore. I'm going to live the way I want to live. But I need you with me to do that." Maura raised an eyebrow.
"What do you mean, Jane?" Jane smiled a watery smile and pulled the woman close to her and kissed her soundly on the lips. "Oh." Maura said once they broke apart.
"So how did he die?" Jane asked as she got two identical smirks from the other two standing with them.
"He um." Maura shook her head. Crouching back down. "He died with a gunshot wound to the chest and it's bruised around the entrance area."
