After 10 years after the match between the King of Games and Atem, Domino City opens the Stadium doors, once again, to give new students a spot to join the prestigious school of Duel Academy island.
One of them being Syrus Truesdale, an insecure and low-confident kid. He has a wish to find happiness by dueling after his sad days.
Jaden Muto is another contestant, a real serious duelist with a dream to follow the same steps as his step-father, to become the second King of Games, with the help of Yubel as his guardian and his friends.

Season 1
Chapter 1 - The Big Day
'BEEP! BEEP!'
An alarm has filled the room with loud noises that made the host of the alarm to lift up his body out of his bed.
"Morning already?", he asked himself, slamming his palm on the top of the alarm, it was showing the time '06:00 AM'. He picked his small round glasses and put them between his grey eyes, and opened the curtains from his window, showing of the grey clouds covering the sky.
Still on his pajamas, the little boy got his clothes from the closet and went to the bathroom to prepare himself for this day, the day that would decide his future.
His name's Syrus Truesdale, a 15-year-old boy with light blue hair sectioned in three layers; with low confidence personality, had a childhood no kid could wish for: easily bullied by kids of his age or older at school in his past school years, that made him live alone with no friends. All he had was his Duel Monster's Deck, and with all the time he had alone at home building the best combos, he knew he would be ready for any upcoming challenge.
He left the bathroom with his dark blue sweater and pants, a uniform asked by the Domino City Duelist Sign-Up Regulation. He went downstairs and went to prepare his breakfast at the kitchen, he took a look at his watch. It showed '06:15 AM'.
"Still have time... I think", he said while he was biting his bread and drinking some hot tea from his mug. Before leaving his house, he looked at his left at the hallway entry, where there was an old picture of him and his family, everyone smiling. All he did was sighing sadly while thinking to himself, 'When will you be back to the nice brother from past?', and with that he opened the door and left home.
*Outside home*
Domino City was covered by fog from the cloud sky, it was hard to see the road, but the light posts gave some lights for the boy to walk to his destination: The Domino Stadium. As he got close to the Stadium gates, he saw some of the Duelist Contestants and Dueling Instructors, which made him feel more pressured.
Checking his watch, showing off '06:30 AM', he took a look at HIS deck still reviewing his best combos. A Roid Deck, a deck mainly focused on Fusion Summoning his most powerful monsters, but also uses cards focused on controlling the opponent's monsters... well, he decided using them that way.
It was already '07:00 AM', Syrus and the duelists all went inside to prepare themselves for the duel exam to get a spot in the prestigious school of Academy City.
*Inside the Domino City Stadium*
Syrus went to the Stadium bathroom to clear himself once again before got called for his dueling test. 'It's all or nothing...', he thought nervously looking at the mirror before leaving the bathroom.
However, he couldn't help but showing at least one little smile, remembering one of the 'Recording Duels from Battle City' he saw on TV, where he saw his idol smiling challengingly in times of decision for the life of his host's life. He still remembered the outcome of that duel, Arkana ("Pandora") being the victim of his own duel.
"SYRUS TRUESDALE, PLEASE REPORT TO THE EXAM, FIELD 2", the audio could be heard from the center of the Duel Stadium, where Syrus could get the message.
"I can do THIS...", those were his last words of confidence before leaving the bathroom and went to the Stadium where everyone was now ready for their dueling test with the respective instructors.
*On the Center of Duel Stadium*
As Syrus went to one of the Duelist Area Sections, the Instructor was there waiting for him. Just like any other Duelist Instructor, he was wearing a blue blazer as a Blue Obelisk uniform from Duel Academy. With a natural serious look on his face, one that could show some pressure for beginner duelists, he could see the respective contestant coming to his duel zone.
"Name...", asked the Instructor to the young duelist.
"S-S-Syrus... Truesdale, sir...", the boy answered nervously while not trying to show proof of trembling. Instead, he just closed his eyes and bowed his head, to hide his fear.
"Very well, Truesdale! Like you know, this duel will decide if you're worth to stay in our Academy, are you ready?"
After one last breath, the boy opened his eyes fixed to the opponent. They got their duel disks ready and inserted their decks in.
"Duel", "D-Duel", they shouted as they drew their starting hand.
Round 1 – Syrus (S): 4000; Duelist Instructor (DI): 4000
"You can go first, young boy", the Instructor answered.
"Huh, ok... M-my turn, I draw!", Syrus said as he drew his card. He looked carefully at his hand; he could work with that. "I-I summon Truckroid in attack mode", he declared, inserting the card on the duel disk.
A big red truck, with a silver cargo behind it appeared to his side ready for action, smoke leaving his left iron pipes. (ATK 1000/ DEF 2000)
"A beginner play for someone beginner like yourself. Why would you summon a monster with lower attack than defense in attack mode?", the Instructor asked mockingly. Syrus didn't respond to that, only took his time to think on his own combo...
"I End my Turn by activating the Field Spell, Megaroid City and set a card face-down", he declared when he inserted a field spell on his field spell zone on the duel disk.
The Duel Arena showed Holograms of a Futuristic City covered by floating roads, where some merchant vehicles were riding them to go their destination. In the middle of the City, there was one skyscraper that looked like a Chess Rook, with an antenna on top of it. A set card appeared on Syrus Spell/Trap Zone, when he declared the end of his turn.
Round 2 – S: 4000; DI: 4000
"Very well, it's my turn! I draw!", declared the Instructor, "and I summon Danipon in attack mode", he said with a smirk in his face, a little bug showed on his side of the field with a smug on its face. (ATK 600 / DEF 600)
"Why would you summon a monster like that one? He's weaker than mine", Syrus said with a confusing look.
"So I can tribute it with my Spell Card, Multiplication of Ants:", he said, the Danipon turned itself into monster pixels, "with spell card effect, I can special summon 2 Army Ant Tokens in defense mode for the double defense", he finished the sentence, 2 tokens appeared to his side of the field in defense position. (ATK 500 / DEF 1200)
"But why doing ONLY just this, when I have this Spell Card Pot of Greed, to draw two more cards. Then I activate the Continuous Spell, Verdant Sanctuary.", on Instructor side of the field, it grew some verdant grass, lot of bugs crawling through the grass. Syrus somehow felt a little disgusted by that spell.
"And NOW, about the Danipon you worried so much, I'm actually gonna banish it from the graveyard to special summon this monster, my Azketipede, The Worm Warrior in Attack Mode", on the ground, a normal-sized green centipede pierced through it, and looked at the truck with his four red eyes and a starving look, blades under its jaws. (ATK 1900 / DEF 400)
Syrus was now thinking to himself about the instructor's plays he did so far: 'An insect-based deck... kind of similar to... Weevil Underwood deck. Based on spreading the field with bugs and using cards to support them. The more bugs he has, the more trouble I'll have to deal with it... however...'
"And now into battle we go! My Azketipede will attack your Truckroid, with 'Deep Bite'", the instructor declared with the centipede crawling fast, going straight to Truckroid, opening its jaw and revealing his inside teeth.
Syrus was ready to react to that, "Not so fast. My Field Spell has a special effect: since your attack was declared to my 'Roid' monster, by sending a Roid monster from my deck, I can switch the Original Stats of my monster", he said smiling with confidence. By sending Decoyroid from his deck, Truckroid seemed more stronger and bigger than before, more smoke leaving his iron pipe, with a red aura covering it (ATK 2000 / DEF 1000).
With the monster stronger, it made contact with Azketipede with its rolling tires and smashed the monster into pixels. That made the Instructor grit his teeth. (DI: 4000 - 3900)
"And to add up your 'beginner play' comment from before; my Truckroid has his own special ability: since it destroyed a monster by battle, the destroyed monster becomes its own Equip Card, and my monster gains attack equal to the equipped monster's attack points!" Syrus said proudly, Truckroid opened his silver cargo so Azketipede could go inside it. (ATK 2900 / DEF 2000)
"And with Azketipede destroyed, my Verdant Sanctuary effects kicks in: I can add one insect with same level as the destroyed monster from my deck to my hand, so I'll add Flying Kamakiri #1 to my hand.", the Instructor said, the Verdant Sanctuary grew a light, where he added the declared monster from his deck to his hand.
"I'll place a card face-down before ending my turn.", the Instructor declared, setting a card on his Spell/Trap Zone.
Round 3 – S: 4000; DI: 3900
"Hmm, it's my turn... I-I draw!" said Syrus, a little nervous, drawing his card and smiled a little, "... I activate the Spell Card, Graceful Charity:... I draw 3 cards from my deck... Nice", he said drawing his cards, checking one of the cards that would change the game, "... but I have to discard 2. And now… I activate Megaroid City's effect: by destroying the Azketipede equiped on my Truckroid, I can add a 'Roid' card from my deck; I'll add Drillroid… and summon it in attack mode.", a drill-looking battle machine that was crossing the futuristic road got called to the field ready to attack, with a giant smirk on its face. (ATK: 1600 / DEF: 1600)
"Battle we go! I'll use my Drillroid and Truckroid to attack your Army Ant Tokens", said Syrus, his monsters went straight to the tokens.
Due to Truckroid attack being lower than the token defense, he used the help of the Megaroid City again to send Patroid from his deck to the graveyard, to switch its stats and to easily destroy the two tokens. Since the token wasn't a monster card, Truckroid couldn't use its effect.
"I'll set a card face-down and I'll end my turn", Syrus declared, a second card got placed face-down on his Spell/Trap Zone, he now ending his turn.
Round 4 – S: 4000; DI: 3900
"It's my turn, I draw!" the Instructor said drawing his card, but with a disappointed look. He didn't have a good plan... YET.
"I'll set a monster and end my turn.", the Instructor declared the end of his turn, with a face-down monster on his side. Syrus looked at the Instructor field and thought of the advantage he had, but he was also nervous about his set cards; it could be troublesome. However, he had the chance to counterattack.
Round 5 – S: 4000; DI: 3900
"It's my turn, I draw! I summon Ambulanceroid in attack mode", a car-sized ambulance was summoned to Syrus side of the field, his eyes focused on the opponent, (ATK 300 / DEF 1200).
"... And I'll start my Battle Phase! My Truckroid will attack your set monster" Syrus pointed at his Truckroid, the truck went straight to the set monster. It was a human-form bug with evil eyes and an open jaw. (ATK 450 / DEF 600)
"You fool boy, my Man-Eater Bug has a special ability: when he's flipped face-up, I can destroy a monster on your field! Say goodbye to your Drillroid", laughed the Instructor, a hole pierced on the ground where Drillroid was standing as it fell from it, pixels flowing from it. However, that didn't stop Man-Eater Bug from being destroyed as well.
"Since my Truckroid destroyed YOUR monster… it gets equipped to my monster… and gains its monster attack.", again the truck opened his cargo to put Man-Eater Bug inside it (ATK 1450 / DEF 2000).
"And since my Man-Eater Bug got destroyed, I can add a level 2 insect monster from my deck due to Verdant Sanctuary Spell." added the Instructor, as he added the card smirking to himself, he was ready for his next turn.
"Well, my last monster can still attack. Ambulanceroid, direct attack: 'Make some noise'", said Syrus as the ambulance let out some noise from its sirens, making the Instructor grit his teeth (DI: 3900 - 3600).
"S-since it's now my Main Phase 2… my Megaroid City effect activates: I'll destroy the Man-Eater Bug, to add Gyroid to my hand.", Syrus said, Truckroid opening the cargo to make Man-Eater bug get destroyed in pixels, while the duelist added the declared Roid from his deck to his hand, a thought coming to him: 'Time for some defense'.
"Fusion time, I activate the Spell Card Polymerization: I'll send Gyroid and Steamroid from my hand to the graveyard! 'Prepare your engines and let out the steam heat'! Fusion Summon my Level 6, Steam Gyroid!", he raised his two monster cards from his hand with the spell card.
The two monsters were now fusing into a storm, where came out a giant looking machine, with helices looking like human arms, the train tires looking like legs, the monster showed a content look on its face, (ATK 2200 / DEF 1600). "I'll set a card and with THAT I end my turn." said Syrus by finishing his turn with a third card face-down on his Spell/Trap Zone.
Round 6 – S: 4000; DJ: 3600
"Time to change the game, I draw!" declared the Instructor, "I activate the effect of the monster I added with Verdant Sanctuary, Paracide Paranoid: By targeting your Steam Gyroid, it becomes an equip card to that monster", the declared monster acted like an insect thorn whip that went straight to Steam Gyroid, covering the monster with its thorns.
"W-why would you do that? T-that didn't destroy my monster… neither decreased my monster's attack.", said Syrus with a scared tone. But he thought and knew something BAD was about to happen.
"Because I don't want to destroy it, your monster will actually be a sacrifice for your defeat. You see, monsters equipped with my Paracide are transformed into Insect-Type." the Instructor admited as the parasite inserted a poison sting behind the fusion monster, and made the it starts leaving some poison fogs, changing his Monster Type from Machine to Insect.
"That comes in handy when I activate my Quick-Play Spell, Cocoon of Ultra Evolution: by tributing an Insect-type monster equipped with an Equip Card, I can special summon an insect monster from my deck, ignoring it's summoning conditions." laughed the Instructor, Steam Gyroid got absorbed together with Paracide Paranoid into cocoon webs, pixels leaving the cocoon due to the monster sacrifice.
"NO! Not my favorite monster", cried Syrus for himself, starting trembling again from his legs.
"So, from my Spell Card effect, I special summon my level 7, Dreadscythe Harvester in attack mode, (ATK 2300 / DEF 1600). But don't worry, because when your Steam Gyroid was sent to the graveyard, my Paracide Paranoid was also sent to the graveyard... which actually means double the trouble for you. Because when it's sent from the field to the grave, Paranoid lets me special summon an insect from my hand, ignoring it's summoning conditions as well. I Special Summon my Level 8, Doom Dozer in attack mode. (ATK 2800 / DEF 2600)"
As he said that, 2 giant insects came to his side of the field, piercing through the City grounds: one was a Light Green Mantis carrying what looked like a Scythe, and other one looked like a giant red centipede, but this time, its claws were more dangerous than the last centipede, and its anger was more showing off. Syrus was feeling helpless, trembling everywhere now as the 2 giant monsters were looking at him menacingly.
"Now I summon the long awaited, Flying Kamakiri #1 in attack mode", a green insect with some looking arm blades was summoned to the field (ATK: 1400 / DEF: 900), "... and into Battle we go! Doom Dozer, attack his excuse of Truck, with 'Underground Calamity'!" declared the Instructor as Doom Dozer pierced through the area right to the Truckroid, but Syrus was feeling ready for that...
"Not so fast... I activate my Trap Card, Magic Cylinder: now the attack is canceled and you take the damage equal to your monster attack points.", said Syrus with some hope still inside him. Two giant cylinders appeared on his side, Doom Dozer accidentally went inside the Left One.
Syrus took a look at the cylinders, and blushed a bit from a memory he had from imagine his 'idol' staying in the middle of the same cylinders, magic bursting from the Right emptied cylinder. Instead, the Doom Dozer came out from it.
"Wait! NO! Stop the attack!", said the Instructor, but it was too late, Doom Dozer went straight to him, and he took the damage from his insect attack points, "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" (DJ: 3600 - 800).
'Almost over with the game' thought Syrus with hope to win this duel exam.
"Grrr, you and your tricky moves won't work again. MY DREADSCYTHE WILL ATTACK YOUR TRUCKROID" he declared as the monster went straight to the monster to finish it off.
"I activate my Megaroid City's effect: Sure... my monster will get destroyed, but by sending a roid monster from my deck to the graveyard, I'll switch my monster's stats... and I'll take less damage", he said, sending his Mixeroid from the deck to the graveyard, his truck again getting covered in red aura. (ATK: 2000 / DEF: 1000)
Syrus took some damage from the impact (S: 4000 - 3700)
"Then, my Flying Kamakiri #1 will destroy your Ambulanceroid", as his insect went straight to the opponent's monster, his blades destroying it and clearing the opponent's field. Syrus was protecting himself from the winds from the Kamakiri's attack (S: 3700 - 2600)
"And to finish with my turn, I'm going to tribute my Flying Kamakiri #1 with Dreadscythe effect: making him gain 500 attack points until my end phase. It seems worthless, but I won't fall from the same mistake again kid! It's over, you cannot win this! I end my turn!", the Instructor said with a finished laugher.
Like he mentioned, before ending his turn, Dreadcythe grabbed the Kamakiri and smashed with his claws, some pixels falling from the tribute monster, while the same Dreadcythe only got stronger, just for the end of the turn (ATK 2300 - 2800 - 2300 / DEF 1600).
All Syrus did was looking at his opponent's field and at his deck on the duel disk. 'This is it; I've come this far... Now the outcome', that's all he thought before drawing his card.
Round 7 – S: 2600 / DI: 800
"MY TURN!" he screamed as he looked at his drawing card. It was a Trap showing a rocket about to leave a top garage; and Syrus smiled at that card.
"Time to END THIS! I set a card and activate the effect of my Field Spell: I'll destroy my OWN card I've just set it. That lets me add a Roid monster from my deck", he said as his face-down card was destroyed due to the field spell, and a card was added from his deck to his hand,
"... And if you're wondering about my set card... It was my Trap Card, Wonder Garage: a trap that activates when is destroyed on my side of the field; I can special summon a Roid monster from my hand" as Syrus revealed the monster he just added, "I special summon Submarineroid in attack mode.".
A yellow and blue submarine appeared from the Megaroid sea, holding on a torpedo with its supports (ATK 800 / DEF 1800).
"Pff! That little submarine doesn't scare me at all, he's just too weak; and even if you decide to change his stats, it doesn't stand a chance against my 2 strongest monsters. Saying you would end this… THAT must be a jo-", the instructor was about to end the sentence.
Syrus interrupted him, "... you're right on one thing about my monster. He might look weak in stats… but just like my other Roid monsters on my deck, he's as STRONG as THEY ALL ARE. It has a SPECIAL ABILITY: Submarineroid can attack you directly, dealing you damage equal to his original attack points. If THIS gets through…" Syrus said with a defying look on his face. He was going to win this; he just knew it.
"OH NO YOU WON'T, kid. I activate my Trap Card, Lair Wire: I banish one insect type monster from my graveyard, like my Flying Kamakiri #1. That will destroy your Submarineroid, leaving your field open for me." Said the Instructor again laughing for his chance of victory.
The trap activated; webs went straight to the submarine. Syrus back there didn't somehow reacted to that, instead he grinned. An explosion could be heard, smoke covering Syrus field.
"Did I get him?" Asked the Instructor as the smoke was clearing off. What confused him was that Submarineroid was still on the field with Syrus behind it, full-confident and ready for the grand finale. "W-WHAT? But your monster was supposed to be destroyed. How is he still on the field?"
"It's true… that my monster got destroyed, but that didn't actually matter because I activated my Continuous Trap, Call of The Haunted: I simply revived my destroyed Submarineroid back to the field... the monster that 'didn't scared you at all'? Well, that monster will wipe out the rest of your Life Points! Submarineroid, launch your torpedoes! 'DEEP DEPHT IMPACT'!" screamed Syrus, the submarine launching the torpedo that passed through the giant bugs and went right to the Instructor, making his Life Points decrease to 0. (DI: 800 - 0)
SYRUS WINS THE DUEL
"Congratulations new kid, you've got a spot for the Duel Academy School." said the Instructor smiling to Syrus.
"I... I Did it... I WON!" Syrus said to himself while the adult approached close to him to shake his hand, which made Syrus flinch a little before giving him his hand as well. They finished shaking their hands, Syrus was about to leave the Center of the Duel Stadium, when a black-haired guy came close to him, walking downstairs to do his duel exam.
"Well, Well! Interesting combinations you showed up to that duel, Syrus. That was close matchup. I'm about to have my own match in a bit, do you want to watch it?", the nice guy asked in a British accent and extended his arm to offer a handshake to Syrus.
But he scared a little, nervous by that unexpected action. He was not used to have people talk to him like that in ages. He got himself paralyzed for two seconds before passing through him.
"T-thanks for the invite... I guess I will watch it… later" that's all he could say with a weird smile, to go back to the Stadium bathroom to calm himself down again.
The black-haired man looked at the Center of Duel Stadium. 'Now is my turn to perform my Formulas for Success' he said, smiling to himself with his duel disk ready in the arm, deck already placed on it.

"I'm the only one worthy of being called the true Dark Magician user, don't you think? There can only be one Master of Magicians, and that's ME." an opponent chanted mischievously as he declared "YOU LOSE! Dark Magician, 'DARK MAGIC'!"
"I activate the effect of Dark Magic Curtain:" Yugi said as his opponent was ready to attack him directly "This turn, I can Summon a "Dark Magician" monster from my deck by paying half my life points"
"I-Impossible, you shouldn't have another Dark Magician in your deck…"
"Ah, I have only one Dark Magician in my deck! But, in the world of Duel Monsters, there's but one female magician that is called the "Magician's Disciple". And her name is…
The rest of the words vanished, Syrus was now looking up at the bathroom mirror, waking up from his train of thoughts with his face covered in cold water; he remembered this scene from a replay duel he saw. A replay he would never forget. He cleaned himself with a bathroom towel and felt his face get red, and it wasn't from the cold water.
I guess this is where I finish my chapter 1 of my story. I just want to say, I couldn't write more stuff on this chapter, because I want to expand it on the future chapters. So, expect this chapter to be the shortest one. I'll be probably be posting my future chapters in a period of 3-5 days, depending of your interest on the story.
One thing to say thou, Yu-Gi-Oh Japanese sub rocks, I find the dubbed version a little confusing.
Also, I want to add that I'm using EDOPRO to build these decks, so expect me to use anime cards during my duels.
