My first Pokemon Fanific.

Loosely based off of awesome stories such as Dappled Grove on AO3. That story rox. Enjoy!

The huge, ferocious wild pokemon was gaining on me. I was running as fast as I could. I didn't have to look back to know that it was not enough. I didn't have time to take into consideration how drenched my clothes were getting in the downpour. Thunder and the sound of a moan echoed in my ears. This is what happens when you get lost in the wild area.

Hi...I'm Jewel. Some people know me as Raihan's little sister. Most people don't know me as Raihan's little sister. Because of this, I'm going to catch you guys up before we figure out if I'm going to die or not. Now...where do I start?

Ah, yes. I might as well take you guys way back when. Apparently, I am broken; oddball, the black wooloo. My family are all big battlers. The name Raihan speaks for itself these days. My parents, on the other hand, highly encourage becoming a trainer as well. In fact, my dad reigned as champ in Alola for years! After he lost the championship, he moved to Galar for a fresh start and met my mother who was...guess what? Also a trainer.

So, when I say I have no interest in battling whatsoever, everyone looks at me like I've grown two sets of arms. I am automatically weird for not being too fond of Leon. The Leon that became a champion when he was ten and a legend as he continued to defend his spotless winning streak. The Leon that stole my big brother's attention away. The Leon that my family was so eager to watch on TV while I sat alone not understanding what I was watching.

Yeah...I'm not a big fan of Leon.

These days, I sit at home wondering what I am going to do with myself. I just turned 18, my brother moved out a couple years ago, and I still live with my parents. So far, my hobbies are whatever I can get my hands on. I like to sketch, play video games, post on Rotomgram (even though I don't have many followers yet), and study pokemon. I do find it funny that I can learn about pokemon all day. I watch documentaries and read books about them but I can't be a trainer, much less catch one. I tried before. It ended with all the kids at school laughing at my failure.

...And a tree.

Recently, we got a visit from my famous bro. Turns out, my parents wanted it to be a surprise for me. By the time he got there, I was still a piping hot mess. The only thing that alerted me to his presence was, "JJ...guess who~?" Raihan's voice called from the other side of my door.

That's when I got up and out of my bed with a gasp. "Raihan! Uh...just a minute!" I zipped into the bathroom while Raihan laughed. It was no secret that I had still been sleeping in.

I rushed through my shower, shamelessly grabbed two toothbrushes and scrubbed at my teeth with them, gargled mouthwash while putting my clothes on, and brushed my black tresses into some kind of decency. My grey eyes stared my form down to make sure I scrubbed off all the gunk that had cluttered on my face overnight. I rubbed a bit of lotion on my light brown skin to avoid breaking out. I wore a simple blue squirtle t-shirt with a pair of smeargle paint splatter shorts. I put on my house slippers...before I ran right back to my bedside. I almost forgot my glasses! They were square modern glasses with blue frames.

"Hey, bro." I slumped on the door frame when I finally opened the door. I wore a lazy smile. That was my attempt to play things cool.

Raihan grinned at the sight of me. "Only took you ten minutes this time! With that speed, you could even beat a cinderace to the punch." He said with humor.

"Very funny." I replied, playfully pushing past him to go chew out my parents.

As soon as I entered the room, I was greeted with smiles and waves. "Good afternoon, hun. Come and take a seat. You are just in time for lunch." I find it interesting that Raihan has most of mum's features besides the texture since mum has curly black hair.

Raihan also has those fangs. I'm pretty sure he had his canines sharpened or something.

My dad was a lighter skin tone with spiked grey hair that he usually held back with a visor hat. He stood up from his spot on the couch to move to an open seat at the table. "Caterpie, you made it! I was starting to think you were going to sleep until evening." He said as mum sat a tray full of sandwiches and a large bowl of fruit salad.

I smiled even more at his statement. "I was trying to beat my record until you two ruined my plans. Why didn't you two tell me Rai was coming over?! I need to prepare for that kind of stuff!" I pouted at that. "...and I told you to stop calling me by that embarrassing nickname."

"Aww." Dad said with a mock pout.

Not minding her husband, she said. "Well," Mum started, playfully rolling her blue eyes. "If you would attempt to get up earlier, you wouldn't be in this situation." She smirked at me when she placed a large bag of chips on the table.

Raihan is practically drooling at the sight while I inwardly groan.

Lunch went as smooth as usual. Since Raihan was here, they talked about his adventures and battles. He also talked about the times when he had almost gotten himself killed. Mum didn't appreciate those too much. However, dad seemed to love it.

She deadpanned before saying, "Elio, don't encourage such things." Mum slapped dad on the shoulder.

Elio blinked before smiling. "I'm not encouraging, I'm showing my support for...what a fine trainer he has become." He said with a nervous chuckle. "Tell me the one about the gyarados again." He grinned while mum rolled her eyes.

Instead, Raihan turned towards me. "JJ, you've been kind of quiet. Did you want to say something?" He kindly tilted his head at me.

I blinked at him and quickly shook my head. "Ah...you guys know I'm not into battles...or conversations about battles. I don't even have a single pokemon." I waved my hands with a small smile. Then I shoveled some of the fruit salad into my mouth.

"Uh huh." Raihan nodded and finished what had to be his fifth sandwich. "Mum, dad, can JJ and I be excused?" He asked, a large grin on his face.

That facial expression immediately made me concerned.

While mum was about to protest, dad spoke up with a smile. "I don't see why not. Go on and have fun, you two." He waved us off while mum deadpanned.

"Thanks, dad! C'mon, JJ!" Raihan roughly grabbed me by the arm in his excitement.

Before he dragged me away, I stuffed my sandwich in my mouth and grabbed my bottle of water. He grinned like a child when he dragged me back to my room. The taller male giddily looked at my bed with a large grin.

I hurriedly chewed my sandwich and swallowed. "Rai, what is this about!?" I take a swig of my water afterward.

That was before I caught sight of the item on my bed. I immediately froze.

"A-An egg…" I gaped, my gaze slowly turning to his. "You got me an egg?"

Raihan happily nodded. "Yup. You're welcome. I am the best big brother ever. Go on, say it." He playfully nudged me out of my thoughts.

I blinked a few times before I finally snapped out of it. "I-I can't accept this. I just...I told you that I didn't want to be a trainer." My gaze turned to him, completely shocked.

My older brother looked down at me. "I know...but you'd make a really good one. On top of that, you need a pokemon, anyway. It will keep you safe." Raihan smiled and put his hands in his hoodie pocket.

"B-B-B-I…" I stammered over my words as I tried to come up with an excuse to not keep the egg.

Raihan beat me to the punch. "Nah-ah. JJ, Jewel Justice Kibana, you are taking this egg. No ifs ands or buts." He raised an eyebrow and walked over to get the egg resting inside the incubator. "You wouldn't believe what I went through to get this little one. So, you are taking it." He placed the weighty incubator in my arms.

I look at the egg with an annoyed pout. "...Fine. I guess I'll take the stupid egg, but I am not becoming a trainer." I shake my head while my older brother grins. "...It's a dragon type, isn't it?" I look at him with halved eyes.

Raihan didn't stop grinning. "Maaaaybe. Fine it is. I figured you'd want to follow in, the soon to be champion, your big brother's footsteps." He pulled me into a side hug and smiled when he snapped a picture of both of us.

I wore a deadpan the entire time.

Raihan immediately began typing on his phone. "Hashtag mini me…" He grinned while I rolled my eyes.

I took a deep breath. "Well...thank you for the egg." I took some extra time to examine it.

Raihan waved it off. "You're welcome. I figured I'd get you one since you can't catch your own." He smirked before sticking his hands in his pockets.

That...caught my attention. "...Wait what?" I frowned and furrowed my eyebrows.

"Do you remember the last time you tried to catch a pokemon?" Raihan chuckled at the thought.

I frowned while he continued. "It was when you took that field trip to the wild area. Yeah, you were all scratched up and in a tree." Raihan shook his head.

"...I was trying to catch a skwovet…" I frowned even more while he laughed.

"In the tree?" Raihan looked up in amusement. "Whatever happened must have been bad."

"It wasn't that bad." I defended with an annoyed expression.

"If it wasn't, why haven't you been back to the wild area after all these years?" He looked down and raised an eyebrow.

I opened my mouth to say something...but nothing came out. I opened my mouth again. Nothing came out the second time. Why haven't I been back to the wild area? My answer was deep down inside.

I'm scared. I'm scared of the wild area. Ever since I was little and climbed that tree, when that skwovet attacked me, and when I was left hanging in that tree. That was when I had become afraid. Ever since then I have not been back. I can still hear the teasing I received for that stunt. It boiled my blood.

However, I kept it together. Raihan was visiting. He didn't come too often because of his busy life as the strongest gym leader and rival of Leon. I will save my anger for later.

"I haven't been back because I have no interest in catching pokemon." I shrug instead of telling him the full truth. "And it is not wise to walk into the wild area without a pokemon." I shrugged my shoulders with pursed lips.

My brother looked back down at me. "Aw. Don't you worry. I will personally show you around then." Raihan grew another smile.

"I'm not going into the wild area!" I replied in a huff.

"Suuure." Raihan smirked at me.

That only made me even more irritated. I would fold my arms if I didn't have a huge incubator in them.

Raihan blinked when his phone began to ring. "Ah...let me take this." He told me before he grinned at the caller ID. "Hey, there, champ!"

I felt my eyes roll right then and there.

"Uh huh...uh huh…" Raihan smiled while he held the phone up to his ear. "Oh...really? Yeah...I am totally ready for the gym challenge. Hey, you want to get dinner? We can catch up then." There was a moment of silence before he nodded. "Cool! We'll meet you there!" He grinned at that and hung up the phone.

Wait...we?

I look up at Raihan with a raised eyebrow (since I'm like...half his size). "Wait, what do you mean we?" My eyes squint at him.

Raihan smirked at that. "Because we, me, you, and Leon are going out for dinner later on."

I sighed and sat on my snorlax bean bag chair. "Who said I wanted to join in on your bromance?" I began to exchange my slippers for a matching pair of shoes.

"If you don't want to come, why are you putting on your shoes?" Raihan smirked and tilted his head.

"I was hoping we could walk around Hammerlock before the sun goes down." I shrug my shoulders. "Besides, I learned to never turn down free food." I finish with a smirk of my own.

Oooooo

The walk with Raihan was fun. Raihan and I both live in Hammerlocke, but everything is like new when we do it together. We even had time to ride bikes together. He tried to talk me into riding them through the wild area, but I hurriedly declined. He got stopped by fans every now and then, but it was better than biking through the wild through the wild area.

Raihan and Leon agreed to meet up at the steak house in Circhester. I didn't mind it. I did change my clothes to fit the weather, though. I wore a silver sweater and a pair of fitting dark blue jeans. I also decided to wear a long black coat.

Once Raihan looked me over and gave me the thumbs up of approval, we waited for a flying taxi. After that, we were on our way.

The flying taxi dropped us off in front of the pokemon center. While Raihan was speaking with the taxi man, I could already feel the frost bitten air try to seep through my clothes. After that, Raihan walked me to the steak house. Of course Leon wasn't there. My brother's rival had a habit of getting horribly lost. So Raihan told me to stay put and until he came back with Leon.

It took Raihan about fifteen to twenty minutes to find Leon. When he did find him, he was surrounded by fans. Raihan had to practically go swimming to pull him out of there.

"Sorry about that." Leon smiled nervously. "You know how I am with directions and I didn't want to let Charizard out of his pokeball. I tried to...not draw attention to myself."

Raihan looked at him in an amused manner. "Change your clothes. Maybe that will help." He looked over Leon, who was wearing his champion attire. "Anyway, I just wanted to tell you that I brought my sister with me since we haven't been able to spend much time together." He jabbed his thumb in the direction where I was waiting.

Leon perked up at that. "Your sister? I haven't gotten to talk to her since I was ten." He smiled at the thought. "She was so shy and quiet and...used to let me go on and on about becoming the champ one day…" He spoke, not noticing Raihan stiffening a bit. "Where is she? I can't wait to meet her."

Raihan twitched before saying, "I left her at the steak house up ahead. I'm sure you'll love her...but don't love her too much."

"Wh-Wha..?" Leon stammered in confusion...before wincing when Raihan grabbed him by the collar.

"That's my sister Leon." Raihan twitched as shade covered his facial features. "...If you touch her...if you hurt her...you'll be sorry." He looked up with red flaming eyes.

Leon's sweat dropped with a twitch. "Eh...message received, Raihan." He swallowed at that.

Comically, that's when Raihan grinned once again. "Now that we've got that out of the way, let's go eat something." He released Leon and waved him over to the steak house.

Leon was a bit...surprised, but he followed anyway.

I put on a smile when I saw them approaching. I smiled at Raihan first before smiling at Leon. That's when something strange happened.

He didn't smile, he didn't wave. He just...stared at me. It was hard for my silver eyes to leave his golden ones. Then his eyes began to wander up and down my thin frame. This made me feel pretty self conscious.

Is he...is he checking me out?

Raihan stepped between us with a false smile. "Leon, don't be rude and say hi to my little sis." He squinted his eyes at Leon.

This made Leon swallow. "Ah, sorry. How...have you been, Jewel? It's been a few years." He glanced away with pink dusted cheeks.

"It's been good." I shrug with a head tilt. "I would ask how you are doing, but the news and paparazzi has you covered." I smirk to myself.

Leon blinked and was about to say something...before Raihan stepped up.

"I think our reservation is up next." Raihan waved us over.

As we walked into the restaurant, I noticed Leon sneaking glances at me.

My brows furrow. I peek at him only to see his eyes dart elsewhere. "...what?" I whisper to myself, trying to see if he was still staring.

Now we're in the middle of a game of eye tag.

What is up with him? Why does he keep staring at me?!

He peeks at me again. I peek back.

Stop it!

As soon as our seats are presented to us, I sit down on the booth. This helped ease some of the tension I was feeling from the odd game of eye tag. I feel myself steadily relaxing. I also place my egg next to me in its own little spot. Surely Leon would want to sit next to his best mate.

I was wrong. He sat down next to me. He sat down next to me?! Why me?!

I glanced around the restaurant to see people eyeing me in envy. It is an expected reaction. I am a nobody who is sitting next to the champion. Correction, I am the nobody sitting beside Leon, the undefeated champion of Galar.

Now he's glancing at me again! Then I glance back! When is this ever going to end?!

I am not the only one who seems irritated. Raihan looks between us. "So, what are you doing to prepare the upcoming gym challenge, mate?"

Thankfully, that got Leon talking. Maybe a little too much. That's when Leon started talking about his vigorous training schedule. Then he started talking about his charizard, battling, some kids he was endorsing, and a bunch of other things I don't care about. The conversation carried on even longer when Raihan bragged on his flygon. They didn't even notice when the food was brought out.

I merely glanced at the two arrogant males. That is when I rolled my eyes and went back to my food. Well...at least I had all of the steak sauce to myself.

When I had nearly finished my food, Leon called my name. I looked up in surprise with a blink. "...Yes?"

Leon pointed to my egg. "I see you have an egg. Um...are you a trainer?" He smiled and tilted his head.

I blink a couple times. "Uh. No." I give him a small smile. "I'm not a trainer. This was a gift from Rai."

"Yeah, JJ couldn't catch a pokemon if it grabbed the pokeball itself!" Raihan laughed at that.

I blinked in surprise before frowning. "I could if I tried." My gaze lowered a bit.

Raihan happily chewed his food before saying, "The last time you tried to catch a pokemon was years ago...and we found you in a tree-a tree! Hanging by your underwear!" He began to laugh once again.

That's when I deeply frowned. Great. Raihan blurted out my most embarrassing experience ever to the champion and anyone else who bothered to listen. I feel my cheeks heat up in shame with a mixture of embarrassment while I began to tremble.

When my eyes become wet with tears, I grab my egg. "...Excuse me." I tell Leon, but my eyes do not look up to meet him. I keep them to the ground until he stands up to let me through.

It did not take long for me to hurry out of the restaurant without looking back. I didn't even stop when Raihan called after me. In fact, I walked faster.

"Step on it." I say when I hop in the flying taxi.

The driver blinked at me. "Oh, but Raihan said he'd pay me once I drop both of you off…" He scratched the back of his neck.

"Here." I sigh before pulling out my wallet. "I will pay for my trip. Raihan can pay for his own...and here's a tip." I hand over the money before leaning back in the seat with a deep frown.

The taxi driver takes a moment to count his money before he nodded. "...Alright. Thank you for your business." He urged the corviknight to fly away.

When we landed in Hammerlocke, I spared the driver a wave. After that, I took the walk home. I didn't greet my parents, I cracked a smile and waved at them as well. By the expressions on their faces, I knew they knew something was wrong. Thankfully, they allowed me to have my space.

Now I sat in my computer chair, staring out of the window. My arms are folded over my chest and a deep frown is on my face. Only a few more minutes until Raihan comes crashing in to try and hunt me down. He should have noticed my absence since my departure was thirty minutes ago. I have just been watching the stars since then.

"I can to catch a pokemon..can't I?" I look at the egg, resting in the incubator. "Raihan thinks he knows everything. Him and his egotist friend. The Great Undefeated Leon! Oh, give me a break." I scowl and fold my arms.

"I can be a trainer! I can be a good one!" I stand up and begin pacing. "I can do it...i-if I wanted to...I…" I sigh and shake my head.

"What am I going to do?" I fall to my knees and turn to the egg. "I have no idea what to do with my life. I am the worst at being a trainer. Raihan was right. I can't catch a pokemon." I sniffed, not noticing the tears that began to fall down my cheeks.

That's when I saw a star. A star that was brighter than all of the other stars. "...Please. All I need...is a chance. Just one. I need someone to take a chance on me." I look down at my pokeball carpet.

That's when a bright light flashed in my face. My brows furrowed at that. I removed my glasses and used my shirt to clean the lenses. When I put my glasses back on, I gasp.

The star has become a shooting star...and the shooting star is falling in the direction of my house!

I yelp as my room is suddenly bathed in red light. I curl into a ball and cover my face as the sound of broken glass pounds my eardrums. Then something fell on my floor with a thud.

My lip trembled as I peeked over my arms. I slowly look around my room. There was broken glass everywhere. There was also a strange rock on the floor. There seemed a strange red glowing energy that seeped through the cracks.

My eyes widen significantly. "I-I-It's a wishing star." Yup. This is it. I have seen many wishing stars on documentaries of the dynamax phenomenon. "...You can make my dreams come true." I whispered to the item, reaching down to pick it up.

That's when I looked up with a smirk.

I grab my bag, change my clothes, my shoes, and my egg with a confident smile. "I'm going to show them I can catch a pokemon and prove them all wrong." I grab the incubator. "Come on, Shell...Shelly. If you are a boy, I'll name you Sheldon." I open my...mostly broken window.

"Jewel, what was that noise?" I heard my dad call out.

"Uhh…" I blink at that. "I...dropped my pignite bank!" I reply with a wince. I hope he buys that.

"Again?!" Thank goodness. He bought it. "This is the last one I am buying you! Do-Do you need me to help clean up!?"

"Nah! I got it!" I chuckled nervously as I got one foot out of the window.

"Okay, well, your brother and Leon are at the door. Come and greet your brother and the unbeatable champ!" He said in a giddy manner.

I never hear him talk about me like that.

I deeply frown once more and lower myself to the ground. I close the window, prompting more glass to fall. After that, I walked away from my home.

I scowl and stomp down my drive way. "I'll show them I can be a real trainer." That was when I made my way to the wild area.

Little did I know, I would quickly regret it.

Hello, everyone! Thank you for checking out the first chapter of my story Black Wooloo. It's a cool play on words since the OC is definitly a black sheep in the family.

Yes, I did use Elio, the player character from Black and White as the dad. I thought it would be cool, funny, and pretty awesome.

What do you guys think? Yay or nay? No flames, but I can do constructive criticism. If ya like it then tell me! I will try to reply to all reviews, but I do have another story so bare with me.

See you guys later!
