Kirk was having so much fun.
He was currently hiding in one of the air vents, just outside of Engineering, weapon in hand.
Not a phaser, a nerf gun.
He was waiting for Scotty to walk past, so he could catch him by surprise.
The Enterprise was traveling through a relatively quiet part of the galaxy, so as normal Kirk had become bored.
Extremely bored.
But his Chief Engineer soon put an end to that by proposing a game, involving the off-duty command crew.
Scotty called it 'A fun way to do weapon training' when he told Kirk about his idea.
Hence the nerf guns, which Kirk was still trying to figure out how the CEO got a hold of them.
Since he somehow had four of the foam shooting guns, each with a clip which could hold up to 100 foam bullets.
Turned out that the childish Captain didn't need to hear anymore, since the game started almost instantly.
Kirk had already managed to hit his Helmsman in the head and he got young Chekov in the arm.
So he was hoping to add Scotty on to his list of accomplished hits, since he had yet been able to hit the Scotsman.
The game had originally been limited to the ships gym, but that didn't last long.
Now the entire Enterprise was their playing field, along with its obstacles.
In other words, the rest of the crew.
Kirk had already mistakenly shot two Ensigns, who didn't bother questioning their Captain's childish behaviour.
He then heard the doors to Engineering open so he took aim and fired twice at the first sight of a red shirt.
"Ouch!" A voice called, but it wasn't Scotty's voice.
"My head!" Another called out, still it wasn't Scotty.
He somehow had managed to shoot two people?
Kirk popped his head down through the hatch to see who he had mistakenly shot (again).
Turned out that one of them was an Engineer, just not the one Kirk had been waiting for.
And the other wasn't even a human.
"Sorry Lexie, sorry Delta. Didn't mean to shoot you."
Lexie along with her digital companion looked up to see her Captain staring at them from the ceiling.
"It's alright Sir. Um, may I ask why you're up there?"
"I'm waiting for Scotty."
Lexie tilted her head to the side.
"Are you two playing some sort of game?"
Kirk nodded.
"Well you ain't going to find him down here Captain, Scotty went up to the bridge to have a word with Spock."
Kirk sighed loudly, he should have known Scotty would seek refuge up there.
"Thanks for the info Lexie, see you around and sorry for shooting you two again."
Lexie just smiled as she watched her Captain jump down from the ceiling and sprint off down the hall.
"What just happened?" Questioned Delta.
"We saw how the Captain passes the time, come on we've got work to do." Lexie replied.
Kirk made his way stealthily up to the bridge.
Hoping to do a shoot and run.
His plan was to fire at the Scotsman as soon as he saw him and then dash away before the CEO could retaliate.
The doors to the bridge slid open to allow Kirk to look around.
He scanned the room quickly, looking for a flash of red.
Bingo!
Standing with his back towards the door was Scotty, he was too busy talking to Spock to notice his Captain.
"Perfect!" Kirk muttered to himself as he placed his finger over the toy guns trigger.
Kirk stepped quietly onto the bridge, all while several officers gave him a funny look.
Slowly, Kirk raised his arm to take aim.
He lined up his shot, he was aiming for Scotty's ear.
Kirk believed he was home free, since the Scotsman still hadn't turned around.
So he pulled the trigger which sent a foam bullet hurdling through the air.
But at the very last second, Scotty stepped to the side.
The bullet whizzed past the Engineers nose and hit someone else.
Right in the eye.
"Ouch! What the bloody hell was that?"
An all too familiar voice cried out.
Kirk gulped quietly.
Of all the officers on the bridge he could have accidentally hit… He had to hit that one.
The person he had shot was McCoy.
McCoy looked directly at Kirk, a hand over the eye he had just been shot in.
"JIM!" He yelled angrily.
Once again Kirk gulped.
"Sorry Bones! I was aiming for Scotty, I promise!"
But it seemed like the Doctor wasn't going to listen.
"Believe me Bones, this was all Scotty's idea."
Kirk whimpered.
Scotty's face almost turned white as he backed away from the Doctor, who had turned to glare at him.
"Take it easy Leonard! I wasn't the one who shot you!"
Scotty muttered as he stood next to Kirk.
"But I bet you're the bloody person who gave him that dam gun!" McCoy said.
Both of the officers watched as McCoy pulled a hypo off his belt and gripped it firmly in his hand.
The Scotsman leaned over to whisper something into his Captain's ear.
"Do ya think we should run Jim?"
"Yes Scotty, running is an excellent idea."
There was a brief staring contest between the Doctor and the Captain.
That was until Kirk and Scotty took off running, nerf guns tightly in hand.
McCoy didn't waste any time in sprinting after them.
Reports came in from across the ship of the Doctor chasing the Captain and CEO.
He managed to catch them and dragged them back to sickbay, where he jabbed them with is trusty hypo.
"That will teach ya not to bloody shoot me, accident or not."
McCoy muttered as he walked away from his two friends.
Who were lying in a pair of biobed's, looking very sorry for themselves.
They would be there until the paralytic drug McCoy had given them wore off.
Later that day Kirk and Scotty (along with Sulu and Chekov) had a right telling off from McCoy.
"I don't mind you having a little bit of fun, but keep it in the gym and no more dam nerf guns."
The four offices agreed with the Doctor and apologised for their behaviour.
It's been two months since that happened.
And Kirk still hasn't found out where McCoy hid the nerf guns.
