It was a long and bumpy road to the lake, I'd heard a lot of horrifying tales of Camp Crystal on the other side, and several cabins along the lake having their residents and guests violently murdered, usually with only one or two survivors left to tell the tale. It was worrying. I hadn't wanted to go with them, but all of my friends peer pressured me into saying yes to going along on the trip to the new, fancy mansion cabin beside the lake… they bragged about how beautiful the lake and forest was, how they were going swimming, you can skinny dip if you want, and they brought their 'hot' boyfriends and guy friends with them.
In my opinion, they were all just jocks, nerds, and idiots. I focused back to my book, ignoring the girls in front of me in the van kissing, making out, and groping. It disgusted me to no end… what did they even see in these dumb asses anyways? Let alone this. Just gross.
The trip took forever. "Yo Luna, why don't you, pick one of the guys, and get in his lap for a bit of fun instead of nosing into that book?" Alicia tittered, giggling.
"No thanks."
"Oh don't be such a prude you know you wanna~." One of the guys tried to drag me into his lap, which I immediately elbowed him in the ribs, effectively forcing him to let go.
"Don't push your luck. I agreed to come with you cause I want to explore the forest and wild life here, that's it. You know this."
"Tch, prissy bitch."
"Whatever floats your boat." Tina laughed. "Means more guys for us~."
I rolled my eyes and put my book away. The bus finally pulled to a stop and I grabbed my backpack and heavy bag of equipment, last one off the bus. The professor pointed me towards the Research cabin away from the idiots in the big cabins. I'd have a place to myself so I could run my test work on the local plant life, soils, waters, and take pictures of anything to note. I stepped inside the rather sturdy and reinforced building, setting things down and started work dusting, cleaning, and setting up. It was late noon by the time I realized what time it was, and I headed out to get lunch from the main house.
I bypassed the obnoxious couples and groups as I snagged a case of soda bottles, and a pack of lunch meat and loaf of bread before I bolted back for my cabin, not wasting a single second in staying near the stinky aura these guys were giving off. God the mixed hormonal scents, perfumes, colognes, BO, and everything was making me want to vomit and not eat! I gagged as I disappeared back into my work area and locked the door, sitting to eat at my desk. "Freedom….." I mumbled as I dug in hungrily, quickly finishing a bottle and sandwich before tucking the rest into the mini fridge.
A knock on the door made me grimace as I answer, thankful it was the professor. "I have your first assignment today. You're going to sector one for fauna samples, note any animal sightings, odd behaviors, and your to stay within the fence for your safety. Don't go over it. The other groups will be in sectors four, five, and eight today so you'll be alone as requested." He handed me a map and gps watch. "This watch will vibrate if your too close to the boundaries, watch out if it goes off."
"Yes sir." I take both items, slipping the magnetic band watch on, before checking the map. "I'll head there now if that's alright sir."
"Go right ahead. Just be careful and flag anything suspicious." He waved and left me there.
I sighed, going inside and packing up my bag with test tubes, solutions, swabs and clippers, and stuffed a combat knife in my boot out of habit. I slung the bag across my chest by its strap and headed out, boots crunching on the loose soil and dead leaves as I headed into the forest, following the topographical map he had given me. I just prayed nobody decided to prank me… or do something stupid to piss off that murderer wherever he may be. Something told me they would sooner or later...
~a few hours later~
I had just about finished collecting samples and taking pictures when I heard heavy footsteps approaching, and I paused as I raised my head from scraping fungus off a rather fascinating red mushroom, spying a bulky man across the fence, walking the perimeter. His old beat up jacket was faintly blood stained with a few tears and holes in it, jeans worn but still in one piece, and heavy black boots definitely steel toed. I spy the familiar hockey mask from reports and the recently blood covered machete, still dripping. I stay lowered down in the safety of the bushes, not daring to breathe.
'Shit… hope it's a bimbo he killed. Those idiots deserve no better than this… depraved, idiotic morons prolly jumped the fence. If anyone came back across he may be tempted to cross and kill us all……...maybe the electricity will keep him at bay for the moment… supposedly that fence is high voltage… wait then how did the idiots cross? Shit their athletes, they prolly vaulted it with a log or plank of wood.' I was a little lost in thought as I considered the possibilities and implications of this all, noting he was leaving deeper into the woods towards the lake, and way from me. That was a huge relief…
I waited a good long while, keeping a keen eye, and scent out for him. He smelled of death and blood, and something much like the lake and forests natural scents, so it was unique, I'd be able to know if he was anywhere nearby from now on. That makes a huge difference… plus he didn't smell overpowering with chemically scents, which I kinda wish was normal… if he weren't a killer. He would have piqued my interest otherwise… I let out a soft sigh, finishing my task and packing up, heading back to my cabin to analyze.
The evening wore on slowly, I lost track of time as I worked to test samples for local acidity levels in the soil and plant life, toxin levels from runoff from the roads, and similar things. It was a slow process, but an entertaining one nonetheless.
A banging on my door made me groan in irritation as I answered, finding an overpowering scent of male BO mixed with female perfumes assaulting my senses heavily. "Bitch get your ass to the fucking main building! Brent and Trisha are dead and they were last seen near you!" He grabbed my arm and yanked me along towards the main cabin, much to my displeasure.
"If you're going to blame me, think again. It was that crystal killer I spotted him across the fence earlier."
"Save your breath. He doesn't come anywhere near here!" He slapped me hard for the accusation. I took the stinging pain and bit the inside of my cheek to keep from saying something unsavory towards him…
The professor was holding a meeting, he looked buzzed, annoyed and pissed all at once. Shit… bad combo time.
"So, where have you been all evening? Trying to hide the bodies? Well you failed cause we found them." He spat.
"I'm not even gonna waste my breath denying it. It was the crystal Killer Jason. I spotted him earlier."
"Oh really? Got any proof?"
"Check grid one opposite the fence, there's heavy boot tracks and blood trail leading towards the lakeside. I didn't dare cross and follow, I don't want to lose my life."
"Alex, Devin, take group 2 with the rifles to go check. If she's telling the truth ill consider letting her off the hook for now. If not… well you guys can do as you please with her. I won't tolerate this sort of bullshit under my watch." He glared. "Tie her up in the shed for now out back. If she's lying, well, we can blame her death on the killer and leave." He sneered.
I didn't bother trying to fight as they dragged me away, what's the point? Twenty versus one isn't exactly a fair fight.
It didn't take them long to have my tied up to the rafters by my wrists, gagged and legs bound to posts on either side of me, keeping me feeling like a starfish pinned for display purposes in some collectors room. It was an unpleasant feeling to say the least as they left me alone in the dark, my only companion the cloying scents of damp heat, mold, dirt, the metallic scent of rust from old tools heavy in the air. A light breeze made the old roof rattle and walls creak, the faint scratching and gnawing of a rat somewhere greeting my ears.
I faintly tasted a metallic, coppery like taste on the rag tied in my mouth, which concerned me a great deal. I really hoped they didn't shove someone's bloody underwear in my mouth… gross. It was hard to determine the textures to even know what it was. 'Damn it… here I am tied up and I'm contemplating if I have underwear in my mouth?! Ugh focus!' I mentally chastised my lapse of judgment.
The sounds of pissed off yelling outside alerted me that my captors were back. That sure didn't take long… not long at all. I close my eyes, hanging my head so I wouldn't have to look just yet. I really was not keen on receiving whatever torture these sickos had in mind. Frat and Sorority groups were known for their twisted and demented forms of hazing and revenge tactics… I could only imagine what was in store… and prayed I was wrong.
