The sound of rushing footsteps and blaring alarms fills everyone's ears as a figure in white rushes through the halls of downtown Ekoda skyscraper currently displaying the Celestic Tear. Being the first sighting in nine years, Inspector Nakamori who was placed in charge of capturing KID has vowed that he would be brought to justice. Memories from when he was just a simple Junior investigator fill his mind - of KID taunting the police and evading their every step back then - but with him in charge now that will not happen again. As the original member from back then, it is his duty for the members no longer here to do just that.
"KID has just been sighted outside the window of floor 27! All units, AFTER HIM!" Inspector Nakamori's loud voice blares through all the task force earpieces, causing them to flinch in pain from the sheer volume, and then abandon their current target, which after closer inspection turned out to just be a hologram made to purposely distract them, to give chase to the new sightings of the elusive thief.
After his mysterious disappearance nine years ago, the international Phantom thief known as Kaitou KID had just started to run heists once more, and as the head of the task force Inspector Nakamori had made it his life's goal to catch him. Even though he returns almost everything he steals, KID still has caused hundred and thousands of property damage. But the one thing KID never returned, nine years ago - Nakamori can never forget as that night, the heist has burned into his mind as the last heist that KID ran before he disappeared.
The bloodshed that night, he can not describe it as a heist as it was too surreal, the blood that stained the walls of the museum and the sounds of pleading coming from his fellow officers has become a totem to him to avenge. The lives of the offices that were taken will be avenged. He will make KID pay no matter what happens to him.
After ascending the stairs, managing to only trip over each other a few times, the task force made it up to the sighting on the 27th floor. Unfortunately they did so only to watch in frustration, as a white blur jumped out of the building, shattering glass in the process and weaving its way up the building to what looked like the roof.
The officers gave a quick update to the inspector, before scaling the rest of the stairs to reach the roof in hopes of cornering the thief. Upon arrival the officers were met with said figure clad in his pristine suit, standing there as if he were waiting for them.
The officers felt a chill go up their spines as they gazed at the ethereal figure before them. It really seemed as though a ghost from the past had resurfaced and was standing, almost...floating in front of them? His face was obscured by a smiling jokers mask causing one of the newer officers to let out a scream piercing higher than the sirens blaring below.
The next morning in another part of the city, a school bell rings causing most students to take their seat while they wait for class to begin. But one student in particular pays no mind to the ebb and flow as he approaches his childhood friend Aoko, who is sitting in her seat and talking to her friends while she waits for their homeroom teacher to walk in.
"So have you guys heard about the thief on the news last night? He seems kind of cool doesn't he?" Keiko, a girl with pigtails sitting beside Aoko, leans over with a sly grin on her face, her phone in her hands with an article opened on it: Kaito KID strikes again! Steals the Celestic Tear
"Oh, definitely not!" Aoko responds quite abhorrently. "He kept my dad out all night long. Even after the heist because he had to finish all of the paperwork from it. I remember he did not make it home this morning until only a few hours before he had to go back in to work for the day!"
Keiko gives a slight pout and sighs, putting her phone away.
"Good morning Aoko!" Kaito surprises Aoko by suddenly appearing on the other side of her face, a bit a little too close, causing her cheeks to turn a light shade of pink from the current proximity of their faces.
Although, before she has a chance to respond the sound of a mechanical click comes from the area around Kaito's neck causing his head to start to turn around as his body.
"I wonder what color you are wearing today?" Kaito's voice continues even though his mouth is seemingly not moving, as it now has turned all the way around causing the rest of the classroom's eyes to be drawn to their interaction with a sense of bewilderment and amusement.
After Kaito's head turned all the way around, the mechanical click could be heard once again as what once appeared to be his head has been revealed to be purely robotic. It pops off his apparent shoulders with an attached spring and some confetti flying out as well.
"IT'S WHITE!" Kaitos voice exclaims from below the desk. Then with closer inspection one could tell that the robotic contraption was actually sitting between his legs instead of his shoulders, making it aware that Kaito has in fact been standing on his hands the entire time.
"Auggghh Kaito!" Aoko yells frustratingly as she violently stands up from her chair as Kaito flips back up wearing a grin on his face.
She then proceeds to grab the nearest broom, which instantly changes Kaitos grin to a look of pure terror as Aoko charges at him, swinging the broom like an elongated sword aimed at Kaito's face.
It was of course at this time that the teacher decides to walk in and at the display going on before her, she just sighs as if this was completely normal and begins to teach the class.
"Okay class, today we will be going over limits today for Math. To start out, in Calculus there are three . . ."
The lecture continues like this while Aoko is still chasing after Kaito, who at this point somehow has been able to attach himself to the ceiling to avoid the onslaught of attacks.
"Kaito! What is the answer to this expression," the teacher calls out not even looking at what is going on behind her back and only focusing on writing out the question: the limit as x approaches 3 for 2x+1.
"The answer is -" Kaito exclaims with a huff as he jumps to avoid the broom by jumping over some desks in the back of the classroom as he brings outs his custom made card gun and aims it at the board to shoot, "- 7!"
After stating the answer, Kaito then shoots the board at the place where the answer would be put with a seven of clubs card as he does a backflip over some students heads to avoid another swing of the broom.
Then continuing on seamlessly the teacher calls out to Aoko, "Aoko, what is the answer to this question?" As she writes what is the limit as x approaches 7 for 3x+4 on the board below the first problem.
Then only with a slight glance, not losing focus on her target for the stunt he pulled this morning, she answers, "It's 25, Remi-sensei!" Which causes the teacher just to sigh as if defeated.
At this point after continuing this chase for a few minutes Kaito looks around, an idea forming in his head as he gives a sly grin. Then as the next swing from the broom comes down to try to hit him, a poof of pink smoke appears in his place as Aoko eyes widen, but not from surprise.
"Kaito! Where did you go!" She calls out frustratingly as she looks around the room only to find Kaito right next to the teacher.
After being spotted, still wearing that sly smile, Kaito bows before the classroom, "Well as much as I would like to stay here, I believe I must go now!"
The classroom erupts in chatter at this statement as Aoko charges in between the desks at him, but with a poof of pink smoke he disappears right before everyone's eyes before Aoko could even get one hit in. If one even looks to the board, you would also be able to find the next question even answered as well with a small Kaito doodle right beside the answer.
"Well it's not like you even paid attention in class anyways you knew everything already," Remi-Sensai says under her breath, as she decides to not try to chase after him and instead tries to silence the class to resume teaching.
Aoko though, with Kaito escaping, just huffs back to her desk before one of her friends looks to her and asks in a hushed tone as to not alert the teacher, "Why do you get this mad at him when he does that? He does it all the time, and I don't think it's to sexually harass you?"
Aoko looks back at her and in a similar tone responds, "I guess . . ." With a slight blush forming on her cheeks before quickly shaking it off as if it was never there, "He is just a child that needs to grow up! He needs to learn what he can and can not do, especially to girls!"
"But . . . He only does those pranks to you. Are you sure it is not to simply get a rise out of you?" Kekio slightly teases back as she smiles a smile that has knowledge hidden behind it.
"Well that is cause I am his childhood friend! I bet if he was closer to other girls he would prank them as well, so that is why it is my job before that happens to make sure he learns!" Aoko vehemently states crossing her arms in determination.
Why do I get that mad at him though. Sure, it is a little crude and annoying, but it's not harmful. It's not right though! Especially to girls because that can be viewed very wrongly. Kekio is right though, he only does that to me. I'm not sure. Aoko thinks to herself as she glances over to Kaito's empty desk.
"Sure, of course that's totally the reason," Keiko says with the sarcasm lacing her voice, to the point where it is painfully obvious.
Aoko just sighs from exhaustion from this entire ordeal as she rolls her eyes at her friend as a response, before going back to actually paying attention to the lecture.
After the distraction in the classroom that allows Kaito to escape unnoticeable out of the classroom window, he drops down into the bushes below and collapses from the pain pulsing in his chest.
Auggh, why now! I did not know it was that sensitive, Kaito thinks to himself as he tries everything in his power to hold his current composure, poker face be damned currently as his entire body begins to throb.
Well it's your fault in the first place! You knew what you were getting yourself into when you pulled that prank. An unknown voice thought back in Kaitos head, clearly not feeling or caring about the pain that Kaito is in.
You know what, whatever, I never asked for you to invade my head, or for this curse in the first place. Just shut up! Kaito gives a grimace as the pain in his body continues to increase.
Well, now you are stuck with me! I don't really like it either, but oh well. I'm surprised really that your family never told you about me. The voice continues nonchalantly with a hint of amusement in his thoughts as he just observes from his mental realm Kaito's current predicament.
Honestly at this moment I don't really care! How do you not feel this pain? Kaito thinks back as he curls up into a ball on the ground as he is still trying to fight it off.
Well as of now I'm just a mental figment, so the pain you are feeling does not affect me. You sure are entertaining to watch though. You know if you just give in and let me take over it will be all gone. The voice almost teases back.
Hell no! This is my body not yours, I'm not giving it up again! You have control over this pain though right? Make it stop, Kaito almost screams back in frustration.
Well, sadly, I do not have control over the pain. Honestly, I do not remember one of my hosts being as stubborn as you with switching, so this is honestly new to me. Besides it's cramped in here. I want to be let out!
From this response, the pain Kaito is currently feeling continues to increase until he can not withstand it any longer. He lets out a massive scream as the power overtakes him.
...
Three days ago
Hearing chirping from downstairs Kaito sighs and thinks to himself as he walks up to his bedroom to check on his doves he keeps in there. I wonder if everything is okay. I just fed them not too long ago
He opens the door to his room as he finds that somehow the cage got open and one of the new hatchlings Kiki, the fattest and fluffiest of them, has fallen to the ground. It seems like the other birds began chirping to get Kaito's attention because of this. Rushing over to her, Kaito carefully picks her up by cradling her in her hands as he inspects her for any visible injury.
Seeing none, Kaito carefully brings one hand under Kiki then raises it up alongside the right side of her body to check if her wing is okay, and then repeats the process with the other. At the moment he touches her left wing though, Kiki jumps slightly and chirps in pain.
"Oh Kiki, you know you have to be more careful than that until your wings have fully grown out. Here let me try to help you out." He lectures the little bird as she hangs her head in apology, as if she can somehow understand him. Kaito then carries Kiki over to his desk in his bedroom where he then gently sets her down.
"Okay, be still for a moment please Kiki, we don't want you to injure your wing further," Kaito says, opening one of the drawers in his desk dedicated to dove care, and pulls out a few popsicle sticks and ribbons.
After collecting the materials he gives his attention back to Kiki's wing as he carefully tries to lift it up slightly without hurting her and ties the popsicle sticks around her wing to help stabilize it.
"Okay, you better be good and not move around much more for the next week or so. After that we can check how it feels."
Kaito then opens the drawer once more, grabbing something in it that makes Kikis eyes widen in excitement - Kaito pulls out a sunflower seed for her as a treat. Setting it down right in front of her she immediately lunges for it.
"This is for being good and staying still as I was binding your wing, not for you injuring yourself. You got that?" Kaito says, but with Kiki still nibbling on the seed he just sighs. She was probably too distracted to hear him, but he smiles at her regardless.
He then carefully slides his finger under her chest, indicating that he wanted her to step up on it which she does, but not before reaching out and grabbing the remainder of the seed with her beak. Then cupping his other hand around her protectively, so she doesn't fall again, he brings her over to the cage where his other doves are.
With the door already open he notices that Yoshi, Yuki, and Tsuki, hanging on the walls of the cage, were the ones who alerted him. He gives each one of them a seed too, after carefully setting Kiki back into the cage. He extends his arm, holding Kiki above one of the elevated branches in the cage and allows her to hop off.
"Thanks guys for letting me know about Kiki, please watch over her as her wing heals?" He asks the three as they are chewing on their seeds and hoping that they heard him as his phone starts to go off.
Looking down at this phone he notices the number being Aoko's before he answers it.
"What's up Ahoko?" He says as the glances out of his bedroom window facing towards her house, only to see her looking back at him through her own window.
"What's up? I have been trying to get your attention for the last five minutes Bakaito!" She answers back, clearly a bit annoyed.
"Well sorry, I was taking care of one of my doves. One of the hatchings' fell out of the cage and injured her wing, so I wanted to take care of her." He answers back in a similarly annoyed tone as he walks over to open his window and then hangs up only for Aoko to open up her window too.
"Oh, I didn't know that, I'm sorry. Is it ok?" Aoko responds, her tone changing from annoyed to worried.
"Yeah she is fine, I stabilized her wing and binded it, so after some rest I believe she should be fine. Seriously though, what's up?"
"Well it's getting kind of late, so I was wondering if you wanted to come over for dinner. Well, if your mom is not home." Aoko smiles back.
"Sure, I was just getting hungry, and she just left last week for Italy. I'm not sure she will be back at least for a few months. Let me just do a few more things with my doves and I will head over."
"Sounds good! I'm cooking omelet rice for dinner tonight, so come hungry!"
"You know that is something I can definitely do! I'll be over soon then."
Kaito gives a cheeky grin back as he closes his window and goes over to close the dove cage door after checking on Kiki once more, who seems like she is sleeping down at the bottom of the cave with the other hatchlings Rin and Mizu.
What to do tonight to mess with Aoko? Kaito thinks to himself as an evil-like grin comes to his face and walks out of his room to head down the stairs to the living room. I can already picture her now - all flustered and annoyed, I will have to be on my toes to avoid the post wrath though. Her cute face is completely worth it thou-
His thoughts get interrupted as a sharp pain pulses through his chest, and the surprise from it brings him down to his knees, panting.
What was that? He thinks as the pain flashes once more, causing him to yell out in pain and sending him forward gasping for air, trying to catch his breath.
What... is...going... on... with... me. He thinks to himself in between breaths as the pain continues to intensify and travel throughout his body going from his chest, where it originated, all the way down to his feet.
Collapsing onto his stomach from the pain, Kaito suddenly feels his cheeks flush and what could only be described similarly to burning alive overtakes his body. Kaito begrudgingly opens his eyes and through his blurry vision, he thinks he can make out what seems like steam coming off of his body. The building heat continues to build adding onto the already intense throbbing pain.
I... will... not... pass... out... He thinks to himself and he tries to get a grip on whatever is happening to him.
Well, then this will be even more painful I think. I'm honestly not entirely sure though. An unknown voice responds to him within his mind.
What? Who is that? Kaitos eyes widen in alarm at the unknown voice that just seemingly appeared in his mind, lowering his focus on the pain and allowing it to over take him and causing him to black out.
Waking up Kaito notices a few things. Firstly, all of the pain is gone. Secondly, he is not controlling his body. What's going on? Kaito opens his mouth to try to speak, but nothing comes out and instead his words just reverberate inside his mind.
Well firstly, you blacked out and I took over. Relax, I did not take your body though. The mysterious voice from before responds back to Kaito in his mind.
Kaito's focus on clearing up with what's going on he determines a priority list - which goes thus: firstly, figuring out whoever or whatever this voice is, how it got into his head, how to get back in his body. And then, what that pain was.
Well that does not help me at all. Anyways who or what are you and what do you mean by took over?
Sigh, well for starters I guess my name is Dark Mousy, and as for what I am, you could maybe say that I am a Phantom Thief! Also as far as taking over we are now sharing the same body. Just use your eyes and look for yourself. Dark responds back in a proudish tone.
At Dark's advice though, Kaito just realizes that he can not see anything.
What do you mean to see for myself? I can't see anything, Kaito thinks back quite frustratedly.
Well you actually have to think about seeing since you will technically not be using your own eyes but mine. It has to be consciously done. Dark lectures back almost like he has explained this a million times already. Could you not figure that out by yourself? You are supposed to be a genius I thought.
Kaito says nothing back in frustration as he tries to consciously think about wanting to see what's going on, but nothing happens. What's going on? Why can I still not see anything?
Dark just mentally rolls his eyes. Well duh, you can't just think about it. You have to want it to happen. Also make sure you will yourself to do it so that it is towards my eyes and not yours.
With that response, Kaito gives a groan and closes his metaphorical eyes and tries to will everything in his power to see through Dark's eyes, even with how stupid that sounds. Eventually, after a few minutes of pure concentration light floods his mind and the image of his living room appears - not through his eyes, but actually directly into his brain.
We are still at home . . . Kaito thinks, a bit surprised.
Well, I'll take that as a sign that you just got your sight working. Yep, while you were out I just helped myself and took some time to explore around your house. Not a bad place I must say. Dark thinks back, amused. Here, with your sight working let me find a mirror, so you can get a better idea of what's going on.
Dark then walks up the stairs up to Kaito's bathroom he saw earlier and walks in front of the mirror for Kaito to get a good look at his body.
Looking at himself, if he can even call it that, Kaito metaphorical eyes widen when he looks at the figure in front of him. It is one he does not recognize, even if it is still wearing the same clothes he just had on.
The figure in front of him, clearly being male, is a good fifteen or so centimeters taller than he was, making the clothes appear a bit small on him, but not too much as his lean and muscular figure helps out with that. He has longish, well for a guy, dark purple hair that matches his eyes. And slightly more pointed ears, indicating to Kaito that whoever Dark is, he is not entirely human.
Why do I look different? How did this happen?
Wait! Before any more time passes let me ask you this. Have you ever heard of me before? That might help out a bit to start out with. Well . . . Maybe I should have asked this first, but whatever. Dark thinks to Kaito.
Let me be straight with you, I have no idea what is going on. No one told me anything! I have been telling you that this entire time, Kaito thinks back in a flat tone as it seems like his earlier questions have finally made it through.
Dark then just facepalms as he thinks back, Sorry about that . . . Usually, the response you had is normal for when I first appear, but they usually all have heard or have been somewhat prepared for me before. This is new then. Well . . . Ummm to start, you already know my name and what I am. From there the easiest way to explain what I am is a spirit cursed to your bloodline that appears in some of the male heirs around their time of puberty or something like that. To be honest I am probably not the best person to explain it. But how you got this way, from what I remember when you look at a girl that makes your heart pound that triggers the change. For both of us.
So let me get this straight you don't know much about yourself other than that? Kaito deadpans.
Well usually, the heirs had some sort of family story passed down about me that explained everything. I have just relied on that in the past. Dark awkwardly answers as he reaches an arm up to scratch the back of his head.
Well that's just great! Kaito sarcastically responds. Also, puberty you said? You are a bit late for that, that has already happened for me. At least we know how to change back and forth. Is that the only way how to do that?
Well it's not an exact time frame. I'm not even too sure about it myself! I told you that. Also, I believe with enough focus we can switch on command. Dark thinks back and sounds quite frustrated and annoyed.
Well anyways moving on from that. Great! That's amazing to hear! So could you switch back with me? Frankly I don't like the feeling of me not being in control of my body.
Maybe in a little, I haven't been out in a while and would like some free roam space. Besides I need to do some research on our current area and timeframes for any specific relics. Dark says, crossing his arms in the process and walking out of the bathroom.
What? No! This is my body, not yours. You can't make decisions like that .
Not anymore kid, this body now, he gestures to his current form, is my body.
As their argument continues, Kaito's phone, which was left in his room goes off, causing Dark to approach it out of curiosity and to see who is calling, only to see Aoko's name on the caller ID.
Who is this Aoko?
Oh crap! I forgot. I told her that I would meet her for dinner tonight! We can't go over like this, and if I skip she will be sure to take it out on me later.
Oooh. An amused grin appears on Dark's face. A potential love interest by chance?
Hell no! She is just my childhood friend who lives right next door. There is nothing between us, Kaito responds back maybe a bit too quickly.
Hmmm . . . Sure if you say so, Dark thinks back, definitely not believing what Kaito says because he is here now, but that is something Kaito does not need to know now. Maybe later, but for now he wants to have a little fun with this.
After the ringing stops a few moments pass until some tapping can be heard on Kaito's bedroom window.
That must be her! Quick hide! Please don't let her see us like this. Kaito thinks back. He is not entirely sure why she should not see Dark, but something deep in his gut is telling him that he must stay hidden at all cost.
What's so wrong with her seeing me? Dark smoothly thinks back, almost flirtatiously, Something she should not know about you?
What? No! Ugh, just do it though.
Wait, not just yet, maybe I will actually introduce myself. Yeah that sounds good, Dark banters back a Cheshire like grin apparent on his face, but as he glances up at her tossing what seems to be acorns at Kaito's window, her not noticing him yet, pain erupts from his chest. With his only thought before he stumbles forward being: She looks just like her.
…
Present Time
Once the pain passes, Dark, having taken back over, looks around. Seeing no one around, he stands up and walks off. Over the last few days some sort of truce has been agreed to between him and Kaito, where he promised to try to stay hidden as much as possible if Kaito would occasionally listen to some of his requests.
Overall though, Kaito is still trying to figure out this entire ordeal he was forced into. Dark on the other hand has been trying to help out some, but as per Kaito's words, he has been less helpful than a sack of potatoes, so he really just tries to offer advice as need be.
With nothing else to do at school, Dark decides to head back to Kaito's house, as it was still the only place in the area he really knew.
It will be a little while before Kaito wakes up. Might as well take this time to do some personal research as I don't know when I will get another chance to do so. Firstly, when and where I am, and then secondly who this Kaito KID thief is. A potential rival? Krad reincarnated maybe? Then finally, whatever happened to Daisuke and Riku . . . If I was to find out everything I must work quickly before Kaito wakes up. This time I will do better. I wont allow that to happen again.
