The sun shone in his eyes as he squinted. 'Where am I?' He thought, dazed and confused as his eyes adjusted to the sun. His long blond hair draped down his cerulean eyes. His slightly toned body was shown through his blue sweater, which had yellow diagonal crossings stitched in. His baggy brown pants and black shoes were sprinkled with sand. On his hat were three large letters that proudly showed off his nickname, something that all of America knew due to his brilliance with horse riding. These letters were: D.I.O.
This was Diego Brando, and currently, he was confused. He grabbed his forehead before sighing. This was the last thing he could've predicted happening. He remembered… nothing, all he remembered was winning the Steel Ball Run… and that was it. "What in the nine circles…?" Diego muttered as he slowly stood up from… the sand of a beach?
"Why… am I on a beach?" The horse Jockey muttered as he looked around him. He wasn't familiar with the area, and it was disconcerting. There were palm trees, bright blue skies, and the bright blue sea. He looked down at his foot. He could've sworn that he had lopped it off after… after what? "Ugh, what the fuck, why can't I remember anything…" The Horse Jockey murmured as he glanced out to the ocean.
"How did I get here?" Diego asked no one in particular as he heard a sigh behind him.
"Wouldn't we all like to know?" A soft, almost bored voice responded as he whipped his head around. What he saw confused him. It was a girl with pale mauve hair, pink eyes, and soft pale skin. She wore what seemed to be a hoodie that was open, revealing a white button-up shirt with a pink string bow. She wore a light brown skirt with black stockings and pink sandals. On her back was a massive bag that sunk to her lower back, and her expression was one of confusion.
"Who are you, and why did you sneak up on me?" Diego asked, a demanding tone in his voice as the girl yawned. She scratched the back of her head before softly smiling.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to spook you." The girl said as she looked at the sun, which was setting. Diego stared, an annoyed sneer on his face as the girl shook her head before giving her attention back to the blonde. "My name is Nanami Chiaki, my friends and I got stranded here thanks to… well, you would have to see it for yourself to…" She paused to yawn before continuing, "to believe it." The now introduced Chiaki Nanami said as Diego furrowed his brow.
'That sounds like an oriental name… regardless, I can't let myself seem- wait a second….' Diego blinked a couple more times as he looked at Chiaki, this time with confusion. "Did I just understand you?" Diego muttered as Chiaki raised an eyebrow.
"Why wouldn't you? For a foreign-looking person, your Japanese is really good, so I don't know why you wouldn't be able to understand me." Chiaki said as Diego went wide-eyed.
"Lady, I remember being in America just a few minutes ago, speaking fluent English, then… I blacked out after… after…." His memory blanked again as he grit his teeth. "WHY THE FUCK CAN'T I REMEMBER!" Diego shouted as he gripped his hat. Chiaki looked at him, concerned as she hummed.
"Hey, hey, calm down. Everyone here lost their memories. It's not just you." Chiaki said as Diego glared at her before his glare softened. His head spun as he couldn't figure out what in the hell was going on. "If you want, you can come back with me to my cabin. I have a couch you can sleep on." Chiaki said as Diego huffed.
"I… I wouldn't mind that. Thank you, Ms. Nanami." Diego said as he straightened himself out. The school girl smiled as she motioned him to follow her. The two walked off the beach and began the trek to her cabin.
The walk was silent as they passed by trees as thick as the forests he was used to. The dirt path she led him on was long. They passed by a farm, a store of sorts, and a massive glass building with weird-looking vehicles. As they walked, Diego began to wonder just how long he had actually been knocked out for. Eventually, it ended at a gate.
The schoolgirl opened up the gate as it led to a wooden path over the top of some water. As they entered the gated off section, she continued to lead him to her cabin. He passed by several other cabins with different faces plastered on mailboxes in a very odd art style. "This is it," Chiaki spoke suddenly as Diego looked at the cabin.
"They all look the same. The only difference is the face on the mailbox. It must get confusing at night," Diego replied as Chiaki shrugged. Upon opening the door, Diego raised an eyebrow as he glanced at the floor. Multiple different machines scattered across the ground as he sighed.
"Sorry for the mess, I wasn't expecting to bring anyone in here, so I didn't think about cleaning up the consoles on the floor," Chiaki said as Diego hummed
'They're called consoles? Hmm… interesting…' Diego thought as he sighed. "Thank you for letting me into your Cabin," Diego said as he walked over to the couch. Sitting down, he took his boots off before immediately laying on his side.
"You're already going to sleep?" Chiaki asked as Diego grunted.
"Yes, I'm tired, and I need to sleep off my confusion," Diego said as Chiaki hummed.
"Ok, see you in the morning," Chiaki said as Diego whisked away into a deep slumber.
Chiaki glanced at the weirdly dressed man who laid on her couch. She hadn't remembered seeing him before, not in the classroom, nor on the beach from when all of her fellow classmates freaked out. Today had been tough. Not only was their supposedly peaceful vacation ruined by some bear named Monokuma, but now they were trapped in a game of mutual killing.
Now this stranger shows up out of the blue, which by all means, shouldn't have happened. Despite being an A.I., and despite not having access to the code of the simulation, she could still detect things that didn't make sense to her.
This was one of those things. Not once had the Future Foundation told her they would add anyone new to the simulation, yet here this man was, lying before her in the confines of her cabin. She didn't know his name, his Ultimate, or if he was a Remnant of Despair. But whoever he was, she had a feeling that he would change the very way things on this island would go.
She walked over to her bed and laid her head on the pillow. She didn't have the energy to play her games, mostly because of the events of today. The last thing she wanted was to be late for the meeting. Speaking of which, she would have to tell the stranger that they had to meet with everyone and introduce himself to everyone.
"Monokuma probably already added him to the report card…." She muttered as she opened her Monopad and saw the stranger. Surely enough, all his information was right there. "Diego Brando? Oh, he's a Horse Jockey. He likes… Horses and hates… Joestars? What's a Joestar? He's tall, that much I guessed… but," Chiaki yawned before continuing, "I didn't think he was 6'1…" Chiaki yawned again as she put away her Monopad and drifted off into a deep sleep.
The first thing Diego heard when waking up was an annoying bell. He covered his ears as he grunted. As he tried to go back to sleep, a very high-pitched voice spoke up, which was enough to make him sit up. "Ahem, Hope's Peak Academy's School Trip Executive Committee has a special announcement to make! Gooooooood morning everyone, today looks like it is going to be a beautiful tropical day! Now then, let's show some enthusiasm and give everything your all!" Just as suddenly as it came on, the announcements turned off.
Diego snarled as he rubbed his head. He looked around the surrounding area he was in, and he sighed. It wasn't some stupid dream. He really was stuck on this island with people he did not know. He could hear the sound of running water as he glanced over to see a glass door. Within the door was a bathroom, and inside the bathroom was a shower, a sink and a toilet. He couldn't see Chiaki anywhere, so he assumed she was in the shower.
"Just great, she's busy. Well, I'm not going to stick around long enough to make a mistake," Diego grumbled as he stood up, maneuvered around the machines on the floor, and stepped outside. He could see a few people walk out of their cabins, every single one of them wearing unique outfits that he didn't care to examine.
"Hey, who're you?" A young-sounding voice spoke as he glanced in front of him. There was a young girl with pigtails on her head, and she was wearing an orange kimono.
"What's it to you? Child." Diego spat as he walked past her.
"Hey! You creep, you walked out of a girl's cottage, I bet you-" Diego pulled out something from his pocket. It was an 1872 revolver. Its steel barrel pointed directly at the kid's face as Diego sneered.
"Continue to talk, and I will blow your brains out," Diego spat as silence permeated around the docks. Eyes were now on Diego as the barrel glinted in the sunlight. "The last thing I want is to hurt someone, but if you continue that sentence, I won't hesitate to end you. Do I make myself clear?" Diego said as the girl nodded.
The blond put the revolver back into his pocket before spitting on the floor in front of the kimono-wearing child. "WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE!" A loud booming voice shouted out as Diego glanced behind him to see a brown-skinned woman with a rather large bust stomp towards him, anger in her eyes as Diego sneered. The girl wore a white shirt and a red skirt, followed by red stockings and black shoes.
Diego prepared for a fight as two arms belonging to something out of this world shadowed over his fists as he raised his hands. "Someone who would rather not listen to someone slander me like she would've, wench. That's who I think I am." Diego growled as the brown-skinned woman gritted her teeth.
"STOP!" Another voice interjected into the conversation as the two battle-ready people stopped to turn to the voice. The person in question was wearing a rather regal black and white dress. She had long ash-blond hair and blue eyes, and she had the same stigma that Funny Valentine carried, that being one of importance.
"We have no need to fight over this. We can discuss this peacefully. First and foremost, you, what is your name?" The young, Diego assumed, princess, said as the titular blond lowered his fists before bowing. Not because he wanted to, but because he felt the sudden urge to do so.
"My name is Diego Brando, but most people call me Dio," Diego said, standing up straight as the girl smiled.
"What a wonderful name, Dio, but now I have another question for you. Why would you point a gun in Ms. Saionji's face like that, and were you actually going to fire it at her if she did indeed continue to talk?" The princess's face quickly turned to that of a stern and serious look as Diego scoffed.
'Saionji must've been the name of the young girl who was about to make a slanderous claim about me… good to know.' "Well, Ma'am, that reality hasn't happened, now has it? But if you truly want an answer, the answer is yes, I would have. As I said, however, I do not wish to harm someone; however, anyone who tries to slander me will know what a bullet tastes like, regardless of class or societal standing." Diego said, a dark undertone to his statement as the princess glared.
"You realize what situation we are in, do you not?" the princess asked rhetorically as Diego snorted.
"No. I do not. I only woke up on a beach around…" Diego looked up at the sun before looking back at the princess with an annoyed glare in his eyes afterward, "judging by the sun, I'd say 8 hours ago. So do care to enlighten me, princess." Diego spat as the titular woman felt a shiver run down her spine.
She felt fear towards the blond in question for some unseen reason, as did the brown-skinned woman and 'Saionji.'
"While I would love to see this conversation continue…." The sound of a man spoke out as Diego glanced behind the princess to see a rather obese man wearing a white suit and glasses with dark brown shoes. "We have a meeting to attend to. You, Diego, you said your name was, the meeting will catch you up to speed, meet at the restaurant. If you get lost, ask someone or just follow us." The fat man said as Diego scoffed but relented.
'I assume he is the leader of this motley group of bizarre teens… I'll have to respect him while I'm here…' "I guess I don't have much of a choice in the matter, do I?" Diego snidely commented. The fat man crossed his arms across his girthy chest.
"You most certainly have a choice in the matter. Whether you follow me and the rest of us is up to you completely." The fat man said as Diego hummed quietly.
"I think he should go against his will because of what almost did to Hiyoko! He nearly shot her in the head!" The brown-skinned woman half-shouted as the fat man grumbled.
"That is true, but I heard his reasonings. While they are petty, they are a reason. Plus, he has no idea what kind of situation we are currently in, so we should give him some leeway in that regard. However, I cannot, and will not, strip him of his right of choice, mostly because none of us can. Now, can we move any faster? Or are we going to argue for the rest of the day? Diego, if you chose to follow, do so. If not, ask someone else what happened." The fat man said as he turned and walked away.
Diego huffed, putting his hands in his pants pockets before deciding to walk away and out of the hotel area. While all this happened, Chiaki had watched everything unfold. A mixture of confusion and concern was in her expression as she watched the blond leave.
As Diego walked, he spotted the store that he had passed by with Chiaki. She was the only person he knew right now, and as of right now, the only person he could really trust. So far, the small blond girl and the brazenly crass brown girl, both of whom he had no idea who's names they were, didn't like him and vice versa. He had mixed opinions on the princess, and as for the fat man, he seemed to be in control of the group. However, he noted how he had no control over any of them, so perhaps he was just a well-respected individual instead of their leader?
He shook his head as he walked into the store. He went to push the doors open, only for them to open on their own. He took a step back with a raised eyebrow. "Hmm, that is… rather interesting. I've never seen a door like that before," Diego said as he stepped into the store.
On the shelves were rows and rows of different snacks, some of which he'd seen before and others he hadn't. "The more I look around, the more I begin to believe I'm not in 1899…" Diego sweatdropped as he grabbed a bag of chips off the counter. He noticed how there wasn't a price tag. Regardless, he walked up to the counter and rang the bell. No response.
"Hello?! Is anyone going to come to let me purchase this?" Diego shouted small squeaky footsteps echoed in the halls. He looked around, trying to find whoever was walking, only to see a small black and white bear standing at the cash register.
"Howdy 'der partner, how can I be of service to ya?" The bear said in the worst Texas accent Diego had ever heard.
"Ok, this is a funny joke. Can you stand up now?" Diego said as the bear jumped up onto the coutner, revealing no arm attached to it. Diego took a step back, glaring at the bear with an intense stare. "You're a Stand, aren't you?" Diego snarled as the bear tilted its head with a confused expression.
"A Stand? What's that? Never heard of it. I'm just Monokuma! This school's headmaster. I have to say. It was rather bold of you to point a gun in one of my student's faces! I'm just disappointed that you didn't pull the trigger, then again, you were surrounded, so I doubt you would've gotten away with the murder. Never mind, that was stupid of me to say." The supposed Monokuma said as Diego stood up normally.
"You… wanted me to kill her? Why? Shouldn't you be concerned for your student's safety?" Diego questioned as the bear snickered, further confusing Diego.
"Oh please, why would I care! They're less my students. More, they are my captives. And I guess you'd landed on that last too. When you washed up on shore, you were added to the school's index, and now you must play my little game too! Though, I doubt you'd have a problem with it." The bear said as Diego glared at the bear.
"And what, pray-tell, is this 'game' of yours?" Diego questioned as the bear smiled, his demonic-looking side glowing a light red as he raised his arms, gesturing the island completely.
"Why, the killing game, of course! The rules are simple, get away with murder, and survive a class trial without being caught." Monokuma said as Diego smirked, putting a hand to his chin.
"I see. What happens if I win this so-called 'Killing Game?'" Diego questioned as the bear snickered.
"Simple, you get a massive amount of money, your memories, and you get to pick someone from the group to join you in the victory! Of course, that is if you're not caught. Of course, the money is tailored specifically to you. Others get different prizes depending on who they are. Oh, but you may want this." Monokuma said as he passed him a Monopad. It turned on, revealing his name and everything about him. It also had a map section and a rules section.
"What is this?" Diego asked, grabbing the piece of machinery.
"This is a Monopad. Of course, I doubt you've seen anything like it. After all, you're at least 113 years in the future. Let's just say, bringing you here was a bitch." Monokuma said, making Diego go wide-eyed.
"One… 113 years… what the fuck, no, that's a lie!" Diego said as Monokuma snickered.
"Nope! It's the truth! But if I told you how, it would ruin one of the rewards, anyway, you just need to know that while you're here, all of your needs will be accounted for, so you won't need to worry about it. Just remember, if you kill someone and get away with it, you'll be able to get everything back." The bear said as it turned to go away, only to turn back around. "Oh, and those chips are free. Everything in this place is free, aside from what's in that vending machine." Monokuma dryly stated before jumping behind the counter and disappearing.
Diego steeled himself before sighing. Walking out of the supermarket, he stared up at the sky. "So… I'm in the future. I can somehow speak fluent Japanese and understand it, and I'm in this needlessly complicated killing game. Great." Diego huffed as he walked out of the store with the bag of chips. "That also means others will try to kill me. I believe the late Ringo Roadagain said this once: To win, you must have a Dark Determination to win. That is the True Man's World. I will have that Dark Determination, and I'll achieve the True Man's World. That meaning, I won't kill right away, but if I feel like I have to, I will." Diego said, however, unbeknownst to him, someone was watching him. Someone who heard every single word he just said.
Hajime Hinata knows of Diego's secret and knows of his plans.
- To Be continued-
Before anyone asks, this is Alternate Universe Diego Brando, meaning he has The World and not Scary Monsters. However, he won't use The World often, only rarely. Diego is not a good guy, as this story clearly shows. He's willing to do anything to win. He will use underhanded tactics, and he will do anything, and I mean anything, to win. However, he will have a soft spot for Chiaki, as he is the only one he can trust, for now at least.
For now, I hope you all enjoyed this story. Peace.
