To anyone reading this, hello! Unrelated to this particular story, but concerning my story for Dinotrux, I've had a Writer's Block, so that's why I haven't touched it in a while. This idea popped into my head while watching The Lion Guard. Whether I will finish this depends on my interest. Also, as for the rating of T, I chose this because in later chapters I'll include some blood and violence. I don't intend on going graphic enough for M though. This first chapter will serve as a lead-up for the planned next chapter, which will involve a certain Serval... Enough rambling, anyone reading this is here for the story, so let's start!

It was a normal day in the Pridelands. The sun was near its peak in the sky, marking the middle of the day, only making the heat of the Dry Season feel worse. The Lion Guard was on Patrol, currently passing by Big Springs. The water source was drying up, and the grass in the area was yellow and dry. But the area is still home to Basi's Pod and a vital source of water to the Pride Lands in the Dry Season. Beshte is talking with his dad, Basi, while Bunga was sitting down on a rock nearby, staring up at the clouds overhead. Kion is standing near the water's edge. The young cub leans down to take a drink, his chin becoming slightly wet from the water while his tongue laps some up. Just as Kion finishes drinking and begins to turn away from the lake, Fuli sprints over to him, skidding to a stop nearby and kicking up some dust. The cheetah turns to Kion and says, "Everything seems fine in the area. I didn't see anyone in trouble or smell any of the Outlanders." Kion responds, "Alright. This might actually be a calm day for us." Fuli smirks and says, "I wouldn't count on that. Something is bound to happen, just like every other time." Kion speaks optimistically, "Well, we can at least hope." Kion then walks towards the left, where Bunga and Beshte are. The lion cub says, "Bunga! Beshte! Let's get going, we still have a Patrol to finish up." At this Bunga sits up. The honey badger then walks over to Kion, saying, "Alright." Bunga then turns to Beshte and says, "Hey, Big B, let's get going!" Beshte turns to face him and says, "Oh. Alright." Beshte then turns back towards his father. "Dad, I've got to go." Basi acknowledges him and bids the guard farewell as the leave Big Springs, continuing their Patrol.

It isn't long before something happens. The Guard hears screams and panicking neighing in the distance, and the particular voice of a zebra. Thurston is screaming, "Panic and Run! Panic and Run!" Bunga rolls his eyes and says, "The zebras again!? What's got them spooked this time?" Kion says, "I don't know, but we need to find out. Till the Pride Lands end..." The entire Guard finishes, "Lion Guard defend!" It isn't long until they find the zebra herd. Somehow Reirei's Pack has snuck into the Pride Lands and is now after the zebras. At the sight of the jackals nipping at the zebra's legs as they run, Kion screams, "Hevi Kabesa! Lion Guard, separate the jackals from the zebra herd! Then we'll chase them back into the Outlands!" With that the Guard rush forward. Just as one of the jackals makes a leap towards a fleeing zebra, Beshte intervenes, screaming, "Twende Kiboko!" as he sends the jackal flying in another direction. Another two jackals have forced one of the zebra's away from the rest of the stampeding herd. The zebra continues running in fright as the jackals chase it. In a blur of yellow and light brown, Fuli smashes into one of the jackals, pinning it to the ground. Though that still left one jackal chasing the zebra. Fuli yells at the panicking zebra, "Use your legs! Kick!" The zebra hears her and complies, kicking the jackal back with his hind legs, sending the jackal flying and back and making it crash into a rock. The zebra turns towards Fuli and says, "Uh, thank you, Fuli." Back with the rest of the herd, Bunga has managed to distract Goigoi, making him not pay attention to where he's going and trip on a log, making him dizzy. That left only one jackal. Reirei. Kion was running in between the zebras, looking for Reirei. Though all he could see was dust and many zebras. Suddenly, coming out from behind a panicking zebra, Reirei pounced. The jackal pushed Kion out of the stampede, pinning the cub as the zebras continued their stampeding. Kion growled and looked up at Reirei. The jackal cackled and looked down at Kion. Reirei then said, "You know, Kion, our plan wasn't to after the zebras, not at all." Kion tilted his head, puzzled. "Then what is Scar's plan, Reirei?" Reirei barked and opened her jaws, exposing her sharp teeth. The jackal then says, "Oh, you really want to know? The whole zebra thing was only meant to lure you here. Without their leader, the Lion Guard will be in shambles!" Reirei then opens her jaws again and moves them closer to the lion cub's exposed throat. Though before the deed can be done, Beshte races in, pushing the jackal off of Kion and sending her tumbling into the dirt nearby. The zebra herd is long gone, and soon the other defeated jackals race to their leader's side. Bunga and Fuli soon arrive, standing behind Kion, along with Beshte. Kion snarls, "You jackals have come too far! Now get out of the Pride Lands!" Kion then uses the Roar of the Elders, as five roaring lion heads appear in the clouds overhead. The winds send Reirei's Pack flying back towards the Outlands.

One Kion stops roaring, he sits down, looking down at the ground beneath him. Beshte turns to face Kion, and asks worriedly, "Kion, are you alright?" Kion turns his head to look towards the hippo, and says, "Scar has actually tried to take me out, and Reirei almost accomplished that..." Fuli and Bunga look on with worry and concern for their friend. But before much else can be said, Ono swoops in. The egret is panting and lands on Beshte's back. The keenest of sight says, "Guys, we have a problem." Fuli says, "Ugh, what now? We just fought off the jackals!" Ono says, "There's a hyrax in trouble near the Chekundu Cliffs! I didn't see what was chasing it, but we have to hurry!" Fuli turns to Kion and says, "It looks like it's going to be one of those days." This earns a smile from the lion cub. Kion then begins to say, "Till the Pride Lands end..." The rest of the Lion Guard then joins in, "Lion Guard defend! With that, the Guard races off towards the Chekundu Cliffs, thinking about which of Scar's Army they'll be fighting next.
