A/N In the aftermath of the destruction of the Death Star, Zeb and Kallus look after the new born baby Jacen. Written for the final day day 7 of Kalluzeb appreciation week hope you guys enjoy!

Zeb fought his way through the rebel base. With the destruction of the death star, the death of Tarkin and Vader currently MIA in the depths of space, the Empire were in no position to strike an immediate counterattack against Yavin IV. Still, the rebels weren't waiting around until they were. The base was a flurry of action as weapons, machines and people were being taken stock of to transport off to who knows where. The current rumour was Hoth. Zeb secretly wished it wasn't. He was in no rush to get trapped on an ice planet again.

"Kal?" Zeb shouted as he finally made it to the haphazardly stashed beds and screens that counted as the med bay. Amidst the chaos, sat in an old chair at the back, he spotted the once former agent Kallus. He was aware that Kallus was considered big for a human. But never had it been more apparent when compared to the tiny new born in his arms. Held tightly against the broad expanse of his chest, Jacen appeared no bigger than a meiloorun. Frankly it was the most adorable sight Zeb had ever seen.

"Over here!" Kallus replied, waving him over with his free hand. His other was currently trapped by a tiny light brown hand speckled with spots of green that was wrapped around his finger. Kallus' finger was the width of Jacen's palm, who held on tight for comfort as a Rodian doctor checked him over. Even though they were on their side, Kallus still poised his arms protectively, ready to fight in an instant if they proved to be any harm towards the baby. Zeb couldn't help but let out a chuckle as he made his way over to them.

Despite being a few days old, Jacen still hadn't left the infirmary yet. Born early and with the added risk that all cross-species children bring, he had been kept under close observation. Thank Ashla the kid was displaying no problems so far. And if all went well, he should be cleared to go stay with his Grandpas back on Ryloth once everything was sorted here. Zeb was aware of how much it pained Hera to have to send her son away especially after having lost their remaining family. But they were all aware that the relatively safer location of Ryloth was a better place for a child than the front lines.

Hera was currently in a meeting which was why Jacen was under the care of Kallus right now. How she was able to stand in a meeting after just giving birth Zeb will never know. Then again, making the impossible possible had always been their speciality.

"How's the little kit doing?" Zeb asked, perching on the arm of the chair. He wrapped his arms around Kallus' shoulders and placed a kiss atop his golden hair.

"He's a fighter this one." The doctor told him. "Got his weight built up in no time and strengthened those lungs. I don't think I'd ever heard a baby cry so loud until he popped out! I am officially declaring him fit for space travel."

"That's our Jacen." Zeb told them proudly. Kallus finally relaxed as the doctor went to check on their other patients. Zen watched as the ex-imperial hummed an old lullaby in a language he didn't recognise, gently rocking Jacen to the tune. And Zeb would now have to concede that this fact was the most adorable thing he had ever seen.

"You've done this before haven't you?" He said as the baby fell asleep.

"Yes." Kallus replied, sadness tainting his tone. "For my sisters. My parents would leave it to the droids, but I liked to do it myself."

In the short time they had been together, Kallus hadn't spoken much about his family. Although what little he had talked about them didn't give Zeb the greatest of impressions. Still there would be plenty of time to discuss it more as their relationship developed.

Jacen gurgled in his sleep. Zeb turned his attention from Kallus to the baby in his arms as the boy continued to mumble in content.

Zeb took him from Kallus' arms. He really was tiny. His entire body could fit comfortably in his clawed hand. He could feel Kallus' eyes on him and he knew that the man was thinking exactly what he had thought moments earlier. Zeb cradled Jacen against his chest as he got to his feet. " Come on little one, your mother should be finished in her meeting now. Let's see if we can go find her."
