Summary: After the Tsunade Retrieval Mission, Naruto turns into a 9-tailed kitsune. Tsunade does not know how to reverse it and the village demands the demon's execution before it fully transforms into its giant Biju self to destroy them. Naruto's salvation comes when the Shinigami appears when the Seal is tampered with. The God of Death then sends Naruto to another dimension where monsters go to Yokai Academy to learn to live among humans. It turns out one of these monsters used to be friends with Naruto before his memories were sealed away. Read if you want to see more.

Chapter 1: Divine Intervention and a Kitsune
Tsunade was wondering why she took this stupid job of becoming the Fifth Hokage. Ever since she returned to Konoha with her perverted teammate, Jiraiya, and that young boy Naruto Uzumaki those moronic people have called on Naruto's death even though he saved Tsunade's life and convinced her to return to Konoha for the village. All this sentencing because of how more foxlike Naruto looked.
It was a surprise to see the son of the Fourth Hokage and the Red Death not be snotnosed brat when they first met. It was when Naruto showed his perseverance to become Hokage that he could form a Rasengan in less than a week that showed Tsunade how much the boy's potential that Konoha and Jiraiya were squandering. Especially when Jiraiya taught the boy little and expected the teenager to figure it out on his own when he really needed some pointers. Why did Minato pick him as the boy's secret godfather, when it should not have to be a secret.
Sadly, Jiraiya rather focused on his perversion and spy network while also wanting to put down Orochimaru for what he did to Konoha and their sensei, Sarutobi Hiruzen the Third Hokage. It was during their fight with Orochimaru and Kabuto that Naruto had protected Tsunade from Orochimaru's number 2 that she finally overcame her fear of blood and joined Jiraiya in beating Orochimaru into retreat. However, Kabuto had done something to both Naruto's body and the seal that held the Kyuubi within him that had Naruto go through a sudden change.
Tsunade was able to heal Naruto's severed heart muscles but was not a seal expert when the underhanded Kabuto had also used a sealing jutsu to mess with Naruto's link to the Kyuubi to prevent superior jinchuriki regeneration. Once Tsunade had healed Naruto's heart, the Kyuubi's chakra flared up around Naruto as it covered his body in red liquid chakra that had Tsunade take several steps back. The chakra destroyed Kabuto's seal, but it altered the 16-year old's body as he grew to the actual height of a 5ft 8in, having now nine blonde foxtails with white tips, his ears became fox ears that were atop his head with the same coloring as his tails, and his eyes pupils were slits with his whisker marks being more defined.
Jiraiya saw he could do nothing to change the seal and begged Tsunade to fix this, but she could not. This had never happened before, and Naruto is the one to decide what to do about this when he awoke. Unfortunately, he never did as he was in some sort of coma after the red chakra had done its part.
Naruto was now under Shizune's care while Tsunade was working on the paperwork in the Hokage office after she was inaugurated two days ago. Tsunade hoped that things would get better once Naruto awakes and Tsunade shall decide to reveal his parents' identities. She was not going to keep her new ball of sunshine(and now fluff) in the dark like her sensei and Jiraiya did to him.
However, Tsunade was broken from her musings when Shizune rushed into her office.
"Lady Tsunade, come quickly! The Council has taken Naruto from my custody and are preparing to sentence judgement on him when he still hasn't awakened!" Shizune quickly informed her.
Tsunade groaned in aggravation before getting off her chair to march toward the Council Room to stop the morons from making a big mistake.
Council Room
Tsunade smashed the doors open as she let her presence be known to the Civilian and Shinobi Councils as well as the Elders. Surprisingly Jiraiya was there too, which made Tsunade wonder what Jiraiya was thinking.
"Tsunade, your presence is not required of this moment. Return to your duties." Danzo ordered in his monotone voice.
"That's Hokage-sama to you! And my duty is to the health and care of the one that saved my life and lives of my student and this village for over a decade! What are you idiots thinking?!" demanded Tsunade, now in Hokage mode.
"The demon brat has finally shown its colors! It is turning into its monster form and once it wakes up it will attack everything on site unless we execute it! It cannot remain here, unconscious or otherwise!" The Civilian Council roared in agreement as they chorused Naruto's death sentence.
"He. Is. Not. The. Kyuubi! He is Naruto Uzumaki, the son of Minato Namikaze and Kushina Uzumaki! Your Fourth Hokage gave you your lives and his legacy so Konoha would not die or be defenseless. And what do you all do? Hurt, scar, torment, ignore, and abuse the boy from what my scans could find! You show that you hate Minato for what he did than loving him and his sacrifice. By wishing the death and extinction to both his clan and Kushina's! Jiraiya, you know this is not what your student would have wanted. Are you not Naruto's Guardian and Godfather?" the Hokage questioned the pervert.
"I am Konoha's Spymaster and Toad Sage first and foremost, Tsunade. I had hoped to train Naruto more after the retrieval mission. However, he is still unconscious and the seal keeping the Kyuubi at bay has been slowly deteriorating that has given Naruto his new features. I had the Anbu escort him here so we can figure out what to do with him before the seal is destroyed and the Kyuubi tries to escape." Tsunade was aghast at Jiraiya's lack of sympathy for his supposed godson.
"We should find another to become the new jinchuriki before our broken weapon expires." Says Danzo.
"Who? There are no more known living Uzumaki left that can handle the Biju's chakra! Any adult who will try to host it will be killed by the massive chakra the Kyuubi holds. And as for child selection, do I have any volunteers from the Shinobi or Civilian Council who are willing to donate their child for this cause?" Tsunade's remarks shut them up as none would dare sacrifice their children for such a burden.
"Enough! If no one is willing to make the sacrifice, I will. For the Good of Konoha!" Danzo pushes Jiraiya aside to use his knowledge of Fuinjutsu to have the Kyuubi become his weapon and no one else to take it from him.
But when Danzo tries to tamper with the seal, it activates. Everyone tried to run away from whatever was about to happen when a massive amount of killer intent paralyzed them and caused many to crumble to the ground. Mainly the Civilian Council and the Konoha Elders.
Danzo tries to use his hidden Sharingan to calm the Kyuubi, but it was not the Kyuubi that was releasing the killer intent. The room grew cold as a shadowy figure appeared from the shadows and glided right in between Naruto and Danzo. It was the ghostly figure of the Shinigami himself.
Danzo was bewildered that the God of Death had come here and now. He tried to use all his hidden Sharingan to force the deity to back off, but it did nothing to the god that was immune to all genjutsu. The Reaper of Souls finally had an excuse to claim this warhawk that dared try to cheat him of his soul that was bound to Yami's torture for all the shady doings he has done in life. With a quick thrust of his tanto, the Shinigami pushed Danzo's spirit from his body as the ghost of Danzo was powerless when the god had a hold of his soul. Danzo's body crumbled to the floor as it aged to bones and ashes with the stolen Sharingan all turned to ashes as well.
The Shinigami was not yet done as he then used his tanto to open a portal to Yami's realm to throw Danzo's spirit to Yami's jurisdiction. After Danzo's wailing soul had passed through the portal, the connection was closed, and the Shinigami now wished to address the remaining audience.
"That foul soul was sentenced to Yami's realm ages ago, but his usage of stolen bloodlines had prevented his timed departure to be judged and sentenced to my brother's realm. His ego in claiming power and status finally gave me the opening to end his miserable machinations. Unfortunately, I can't claim any of yours for your wicked actions toward this child who was and still is innocent." The Shinigami spoke in a rasping and ridiculing tone.
"B-But, Shinigami-sama. That child is the Kyuubi incarnate. It would see us dead than be our savior and protector." One of the Elder's spoke up stupidly.
"Blind fools, the lot of you! You dare doubt the seal work of a god and a clever mortal like the Fourth Hokage and his wife!? I would slash my stomach and have the souls of your Hokage judge you for your misjudgment. However, they are under my keeping until Kami or circumstance says otherwise."
"Shinigami, can you fix the seal? Is Naruto going to live?" asked Tsunade who worried if the God of Death would take him from her like Dan and Nawaki.
"I cannot. For the seal has been tampered by mortals far too many times that the Child shall become the new Biju while the rest of the Kyuubi's soul joins his other half. But I know you care for the Child, Tsunade Senju. Know that I will not take him the same way as your lover and cousin were. But before that I shall remove what damage you mortals have done to the boy's memories while letting the spirit of the Mother voice her disappointment to the rest of you." The Shinigami's answer confused them as the deity wiped the smudged seal from Naruto's stomach as yellow and red chakra flew into the god's gaping mouth while a wisp of blue chakra flew out and formed into the ghostly form of red haired jinchuriki that was Naruto's mother. Kushina Uzumaki.
Kushina stared long and hard at Jiraiya who was cowering beneath the Red Death's gaze. "Somehow, I knew accepting you as my son's godfather was a terrible idea. You are no better than Danzo or that hypocritical monkey at wanting to control him when is not your weapon. Nor is he Konoha's or your prophecy's weapon!" Kushina then stares at the Shinobi Council with her hair moving like the Kyuubi's tails.
"I thought you all were my friends. Only to watch from my boy's seal as you hurt him and in doing so hurt me and my husband for saving your butts! Some of you even had the nerve to convince Sarutobi and Inoichi to try and wipe away his memories so he would not have any sliver of happiness growing up and to hide the ones where you had him try to commit suicide just to be free from the pain and suffering.
Now my son can no longer be a normal human being as you are the ones that turned him into this. While he has been in a coma, my husband and I got the chance to talk with him while the Kyuubi slowly died from Orochimaru's and Pervy Sage's seal tampering. He did not even believe us when we told him who we were to him at first! Saying that you all called us drunks and harlots!
I gave him some comfort before I left his body, as he now accepts that me and Minato were his parents and that we loved him with all our hearts. Now I'm going to show my love to my son more by allowing the Shinigami to send him somewhere safe." Said Kushina.
"What? Send him where?" asked Shizune.
"He can't leave! He is meant to—" Jiraiya blurted out only to be socked in the mouth by Tsunade.
"You are not his guardian any longer! As my last official duty as Hokage, I exercise my right in removing your status as Naruto Uzumaki Namikaze's guardian and Godfather. I trust that Kushina will not mind in me taking the reigns of Naruto's guardianship. But if you could, would you send me and Shizune to be there for Naruto, Shinigami-sama?" asked Tsunade.
"Agreed. For the Child of Prophecy will need training in his use of chakra while also learning to use his new skills to where I am sending you. Know that the Child will one day need to return to the Elemental Nations so that he can fulfill his destiny and save his new Biju brethren and those who truly deserve to be saved from the menace of the those who dress themselves as the 'red dawn' but are the 'blood moon' that shall bring death and destruction to this world… Whenever you're ready." The Shinigami addresses to Tsunade and Shizune as the two go on over to Naruto who is slowly waking up.
The Council and Jiraiya are wanting to beg for them to stay and live in Konoha and give empty promises of willing to change. But the terrifying looks from the Shinigami and Kushina kept them quiet.
Naruto is slowly coming to understand what the Shinigami had told him and what his Kaa-san meant to him. Naruto looks at the spirit of his mom who turns to smile at Naruto while whispering into his ear that she will always love him no matter what he is. For the first time in a long time, Naruto cried tears of sadness and joy as his mom vanished to join with the rest of the souls in the Shinigami's domain.
Naruto was happy to learn that Tsunade baa-chan and Shizune nee-chan would join him to live in this new world that the Shinigami is sending them. Naruto, being held up by the kunoichi, nodded his head in silent confirmation to the Shinigami that he was ready. The Lord of the Afterlife used his tanto again to open another portal to another world. Before Naruto walked through with Tsunade and Shizune he turned back to face the remaining members of the room to give one final message.
"…I may never become Hokage, but now I will never have to deal with your ugly faces again. Prepare for your worst nightmares because Naruto Uzumaki is out of Konoha! For Good, Dattebayo!" Naruto then blew a raspberry at them before the trio pass through the portal and vanish from the Elemental Nations.
After the portal closed, the Shinigami left the council room as now the last remaining sage and those left in charge were now afraid for their lives and the survival of their way of life. Who will lead them now against Orochimaru and their enemies that the Shinigami had spoke of? Now that the demon was gone, why did they not feel safe or at peace with themselves? This would be the beginning of Konoha's downward spiral of misfortune.
Scene Change
Naruto, Tsunade, and Shizune found themselves in front of a Victorian style building that looked like a school. The school was surrounded by a forest that had most trees leafless and had a cliffside where a lake could be seen down below. All in all, it looked a little creepy to Naruto who held Tsunade close.
The doors of the school slowly opened as a young woman walked into the light. She had short blonde hair with tips that looked like cat ears, red glasses, and a short cat bell necklace around her neck while wearing a white blouse. She wore an orange striped dress that showed a bit of her cleavage, a short brown skirt, and low heel sandals to show she was still a youthful adult.
"Welcome to Yokai Academy. My name is Shizuka Nekonome, my job consists of homeroom teaching and for today your personal tour guide. Please follow me to the director's office. Your sudden acceptance to this school was quite a surprise when the students are already picking a school club to join. I hope that this transition moves smoothly so this young man can join the others and make new friends." She said enthusiastically.
"Thank you, Mrs. Nekonome. I am Princess Tsunade Senju, and this is my protégé Shizune. I was hoping I can work it out with the director that my apprentice and I can work as the school nurses while also living on campus with my godson, Naruto. This dimension is quite different to the one we used to call home." Tsunade explains.
"Of course. In fact, if its alright with this young kitsune, can you revert to your human form so that once we are done with our tour, you can join the other students and make some friends while the adults discuss things with the director." Says Shizuka.
"Uh, Shizuka-sensei…I don't know how to turn back. Having tails and fox ears is quite new for me and I don't want to be alone without Tsunade Baa-chan and Shizune-neechan." Naruto trembles at having flashes of memories of what Konoha made him forget.
The only good memories he was able to sort out was the Ichiraku chefs and one friend. His friend was a young girl that was visiting the village until she and her folks mysteriously disappeared. She tried to teach him how to swim while playing with Naruto in the water. Until the village had their annual fox hunt that had Naruto chained and almost drowned in the river until he was rescued. He wanted to thank Tammy-chan for miraculously saving him even when he was almost unconscious.
He could make out her beautiful turquoise hair before he passed out, but the Third Hokage had those memories sealed. So Naruto would not have the irrational fear of water that the village had given him as well as remove his friendship of Tammy-chan who had left and never came back. Hopefully, Naruto would overcome his fear like he helped Baa-chan with hers.
"It will be okay, Naruto-kun." Tsunade comforted Naruto, breaking his trail of thoughts.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realize that you thought of yourself as human before your Yokai features revealed themselves." Naruto and the duo kept quiet as to not correct Mrs. Neko.
"Well, if you want to, I can show you an easy way to mask your tails and ears. Simply picture in your mind your tails merging with your back under your clothes, while your ears flatten to your hair, but I think you need to let your hair down from that headband of yours so you can hide the illusion that your human ears are hidden behind your spiky handsome hair." Shizuka commented after sharing her instructions.
Naruto did as she said and with a lot of effort his ears and tail vanished. Once that was done, he was a bit reluctant to remove his headband, but then Tsunade pulled out a scroll that had a remnant of Kushina's earlier years as an Uzumaki Shinobi. When Naruto saw that he could now wear something that was reminiscent of his Kaa-san, he gladly removed his Konoha emblem to show that he was moving on from his past. Only now he wore it like Zabuza in memory of Haku and the Demon of the Mists, only keeping his hair down on the sides like Shizuka-sensei instructed him.
"Well done, Naruto-kun. Let us get started with the tour and then I'll lead you to the courtyard where the clubs are." Said the cat woman as the trio followed her into the academy.
Scene Change
Naruto was browsing the club benches after Shizuka-sensei dropped him off after their tour. Most the students wore green jackets over white shirts and red ties while the men wore tan pants, and the woman wore tan miniskirts from what Naruto observed. He was not ready to wear formal clothes yet.
There were so many clubs to choose from. Clubs for tennis, games, kenjutsu, judo, karate, kicking, kyudo, wrestling, sumo, acupuncture, muay thai, photography, acupuncture, mummy, and chemistry. But the one that stood out to Naruto was the swimming club.
Naruto pushed his way through some of the boys that were ogling the swimsuit wearing female members of the club to register. He wanted to prove his mastery over water by relearning how to swim and master Water Walking that the pervy-sage only taught him for less than a month near the end of the Chunin Exams. As well as remove any lingering fear his past-self had.
When he finally reached the front of the crowd, he was shocked to see a more mature looking version of his first friend that was wearing a purple bikini and a purple towel wrapped around her hourglass waist. He pointed at her as soon as she saw him and gave a short gasp in surprise.
"Tammy-chan? Is that you?" Naruto asked.
"Well, well. It has been a while, Naru-kun. I didn't expect to see you here after you didn't say goodbye the last time we met." Tamao Ichinose hinted with her eyes showing some killer intent.
"T-Tammy-chan, it wasn't my fault! After you saved me from drowning my memories were sealed away so I was made to forget you and that ordeal. But I want to make it up to you. Can you help me relearn how to swim again?" Everyone went silent to see what the President of the Swimming Club would say to this new kid.
"…If you sign-up for the Swimming Club, then yes. But you must call me Tamao-sensei from now on until I say otherwise. And tell me of your ninja training since you have much to fill me in on." Tamao's answer had many of the boys glaring at Naruto in jealousy to be taught by the hottest babe in the club.
Naruto nodded eagerly as he quickly signed up for the club. The rest of the crowd followed suit as well as a hidden human named Tsukune Aono and his reluctant vampire girlfriend Moka Akashiya.
Ten minutes later, Naruto was now wearing a spare pair of orange swimming trunks with red flames on the bottom as he exited the bathroom/locker dorm connected to the fenced swimming pool. All the guys were now quickly getting a female member of the club to personally teach them. Tsukune was in a middle of a tug of war with the succubus Kurumu Kurono and the loli prodigy witch Yukari Sendo that also had feelings for him. Naruto saw that Moka was far away from the pool, watching jealously as her Tsukune being a dummy. Naruto decided to walk on over to her.
"Hey there. Um, why aren't in your swimsuit?" he asked.
"None of your business!" Moka snapped.
"Hey, I was only trying to help! If you do not want to swim, then why did you join the Swimming Club?" ranted Naruto.
"It's because my idiot self wasn't thinking straight that's what!" An irritated voice said from Moka's crucifix necklace. Only Naruto heard her too.
"Huh? Who said that?" Naruto searched to see who had spoken.
"…Interesting. You can hear me." The voice said when Naruto saw that the necklace was glowing red.
"Huh? Why is a voice coming from your necklace? Is it some sort of spirit that is sealed in there? Oh wow, I have some experience with that." Said Naruto.
"…You don't think I'm weird? The shy Moka asked.
"Not at all. Everyone has their own quirks and problems. I am sure your boyfriend will understand if you tell him what's wrong. Or you can tell me, I won't hold it against you." Naruto assured her.
"Tsukune's my friend, not my boyfriend (yet)… It is just he seems to be more focused on those bikini wearing floozies than me." Moka showing several tick marks on her forehead.
"Then why don't you go change into a swimsuit like the rest of us. I bet Tsukune would love to see you in a swimsuit so you both can learn to swim together. I think that's one of the reasons he decided to join this club, compared to some of the other crazy clubs." Naruto added.
"Why should we learn how to swim? We have the power of flight and other extraordinary powers while water dampens our abilities." The inner voice commented in a glowing tone.
"Really? Then how do you take baths?" Naruto stupidly asked.
Moka blushes at that before whispering her answer. "We use certain herbs for my family and kind, so water won't hurt us so badly."
"Then why don't we get those herbs so you can swim. I too have another way to get around water, but I joined this club so I could overcome my inner fear. As well as get reacquainted with my first friend I lost when I lived in a not so nice village." Said Naruto.
Moka was stunned at Naruto's determination. She wanted that same determination so she can stay by Tsukune's side while keeping his human secret. It just seemed embarrassing to have to rely on special herbs to allow her to get wet.
"Naru-kun. Why are you over there with that girl? Didn't you say you wanted to relearn swimming with me?" Tamao appeared in the pool as she stared at the two of them.
"I-It's not what you think Tammy-chan. This girl wants to swim with her best friend but she has sensitive skin to water that she's too embarrassed to tell him and go and get them so she can learn how to swim without it affecting her health." Naruto defended himself and Moka.
"Oh my. I did not realize that you were a special case my dear. Thankfully, the Swimming Club has had special cases in the past that we have a special lotion like onto the human world's sunscreen. Only it can also dampen the affects of water for certain Yokai species with the very herbs I'm sure your kind uses for bathing. Do you still wish to join the Swimming Club?" Tamao asked Moka. Not correcting Naruto for not calling her sensei since she did miss his carefree and upbeat attitude that she remembered him by.
Moka stands up as she now has a strong determined look on her face. "I am."
The club president had one of her female members lead Moka to the locker room where they could get Moka ready to join Tsukune and the rest of them. Naruto walked closer to the pool but had not touched the water as he was a little hesitant. Yet Tamao swam up to Naruto to show he had nothing to fear.
"Thank you for being considerate for her, Tammy-chan." Thanked Naruto.
"It's my duty as club president to make certain all club participants have the chance to experience the joy of swimming and making new friends. As well as sate the 'needs' of my folk." She said ominously.
"Tammy-chan. I am gonna be honest with you. After you miraculously saved me and the leader of my ninja village had my memory wiped, I have had little to no practice in swimming in or under water. I have learned the ability to use my chakra to walk on top of water surfaces. But I want to relearn what I lost with you. My first and one true friend." Naruto showed her this by surprising everyone by taking several steps on top of the water.
Some of the Yokai were wondering what Naruto could be. He could not be a normal Yokai since he did not show any wings or give off the feel of the S-Class ranking kind. Tsukune wondered if Naruto could teach him that if that were possible, before he was distracted at seeing Moka returning from the lockers now sporting a two-piece white bikini with frills along with her signature choker/necklace.
Tamao smiled at Naruto having thought of her like that as she used her waterpowers, while slightly revealing her mermaid orange tail several seconds, to be level eyed with Naruto before dragging him into the pool water with a large splash. Naruto panicked at first. But Tamao's comforting embrace after they resurfaced made him less fidgety as Tamao began reteaching Naruto personally on how to swim. Her tail having changed back into human legs with no one unaware as the two began to enjoy their time together along with the rest of the club people.
Sorry for the long delay. Real life had me on hiatus for not knowing where to go with my writing. Also becoming an uncle and going through a surgery can distract you. I hope that this was a good start to Naruto and Tamao's restarting relationship while also making friends with Moka and their growing group. This is the start of Summer. Also Happy Mother's Day to all you amazing mom's!
