The Ghost of Stark Tower
Summary: Tony Stark had always known about the spirit that walked beside him. Then one day she no longer stood next to him. Or, the one where Tony Stark is welcome by an old friend when he dies. (Ones shot) (OC)
Moon knows she's dead.
It's kind of hard not to see that she is dead. Since people are walking through her and the only people who can see her are those that can see spirits and ghost a-like. It didn't help that most people thought the mediums we're nuts whenever Moon floated by.
Moon was dead.
Charming.
She isn't too sure how she ended up here.
One moment she was with her daughter the next moment she a ghost having people walk through her.
It's, not a fun experience, but whatever she'll adjust. She has no other choice after all, but adjust.
She supposed she should be glad that she recalled her name because there could be worse things that she could've delt with.
So, she does what she does best.
She wanders.
She has no location in mind no, map, or goal, not that it would matter she was dead after all and wandering was the best option she had.
She kept to herself and gave up trying to get other people to see her and decided to haunt a house.
It clearly belonged to someone who had the money no doubt about that. It, was big enough for her to stay in without running into another person who would go through her.
So, she stayed and waited. She isn't too sure what's she waiting for, but she waited and then she heard it.
Yelling.
With a frown she followed it wonder what could possibly cause such chaos only to find a little boy alone in his room crying and his parents yelling the smell of liquor flowing through the air.
She wished those parents would stop because the child was upset and she frowned at the sight trying to tell him everything would be okay, but she dead.
She can't hug anyone.
People don't even know she there, yet she still tried because she got nothing else to do and she couldn't stand a crying child. Not when a child reminded her of her own daughter.
"It's alright, it be okay."
"No, it won't be. I'm just making it worse."
"No, you're not you're just crying and crying fine. It's normal."
"That's not what dad says."
She frowned at the words only to have him look up at her.
"You can see me?"
"Who are you?" the boy asked. "Are you another maid? I don't think I remember you if you are."
"I'm not a maid. I'm just someone you can see that not many people can."
"Oh. What you mean?"
She bites her lip and thinks what could possibly be the best thing to say to a child.
"I'm just an imagery friend that's all."
It would take her a while to work out who the kid was and when it dawned on her she was ready to flee.
She flew through the wall and flew away from the house, but then her head turned back to the said house. Turned back to the child that reminded her of her own daughter.
At least her daughter had a carrying father, but Tony didn't. She told herself she would stay a bit longer at least until Tony stop seeing her.
After all, everyone grows up sooner or later leaving their imagery friends behind. She would soon find out that Tony Stark wasn't one of those people.
Rhodey knows it wasn't Tones fault.
He just couldn't help, but be upset with the man not after what he did. Yet, he knows he isn't alone.
There's a thump on the wall.
"I know your there."
He still isn't too sure who it is. He just knows Tony Stark has some sort of friend that nobody, but him can see. Rhodey knows because he's caught Tony speaking to air more than once and had known about that said friend since MIT.
"Look we're not perfect alright. Best friends fight every now and again, it's perfectly normal. I just can't stand what he does when he drinks and pulls stunts like that."
Another thump on the wall. The doors opened and a newspaper flies in hitting Rhodey in the face.
He mumbled removing the paper and frowned.
It was a fairly old one, judging by Howard Stark picture on the front.
"What are you trying to tell me?"
No, doubt it had to be something.
Then it dawned on him. Howard was never a good father for Tony. Rhodey knows. He's been there to patch Tony up a few times after finding out what Howard had done.
"Yeah, I know."
The thumping stops and the doors closed he gets a feeling he's been left alone.
Normally how the ghost works. Once, she knows you understand where Tony Stark is coming from, she would leave you alone.
Obadiah knows something is following him.
He knows something is also trying to kill him.
It's not that hard to work out when kitchen knives start flying on their own, or wooden spoons hit him over the head. It's not that hard to work out when fan blades start spinning on their own or when something grabs his tie and tried to choke him.
It's also not that hard to work out when he sees something down the hall.
Faint, but there.
An outline of a woman with black hair.
He isn't too sure who that woman is, but he knows she there.
She always there whenever he is alone and she always there whenever he's near Tony Stark.
"I swear one day I'm going to get a Priest to banish you."
He hears laughter in the halls then suddenly the doors slam on him. Obadiah will work out how to get rid of that ghost.
Tony Stark knows that not everybody can see Moon so trying to act like she wasn't there was a challenge, but at one point he just gave up acting.
Sure, the world thought he was a little mad, but really, he didn't care at this point. It was hard keeping Moon a secret with her going around haunting people she didn't like. It also didn't help when she tried to actually kill people. Someone going to notice about the flying knives even if they never understand how they flew.
"You really need to stop scaring Obie," Tony said as he worked away in his lab. "You might give him a heart attack one."
"That's the plan."
"Moon."
"I'll find proof then."
"And, then what?" Tony asked. "You can't really download information on a USB in your position."
If Moon did find a way to download information onto a USB, then at that rate the world itself at large will have to admit that Tony Stark was not a mad man because a floating USB, downloading information just does not happen.
No, Moon you are not trying to take over someone body to do it. Now, where did he put those screws?
Possession not really her strong point.
She didn't try and do such a thing sure, if she wanted a body. She wanted her own body. She didn't want to fight over who got what meat bag, but since Tony Stark was held being in a cave and terrorist drowning him, she decided that possession might just be the answer.
So, she worked on it.
Nothing at first her hand just went through them and unlike Tony, they couldn't see her so most of the time they just felt a sudden chill. This didn't stop her though she just kept trying.
Nothing.
Nothing at all.
They kept putting Tony head in water and in a fit of anger she cut through.
She took one of their bodies and punch the men of him lifting Tony up. He panted.
"Moon?"
"Not for long."
She felt the owner of the body wanting to take control and she was out of it in seconds, but at least the men back away from Tony given him more time as he worked on an Arc Reactor.
"They think there's an evil spirit near you," Yinsen said.
"She isn't evil."
"Taking control of another person isn't good either."
Tony snorted as he kept working.
"She just protective."
"I always wonder where you got the name Mad Stark from. I didn't think it was because of an actual spirt. Does she follow you?"
"Not all the time, but most time she does."
"Is she here with us now?"
"No, she trying to get help."
Trying was the keyword and getting Rhodey to notice was another matter.
"Sir, we've already look three times today," one military personal said.
"I'm looking again. Maybe we can find something."
The helicopter started.
She smiled.
Fury and worry are too emotions that could do just about anything when channel into something useful.
"Did you turn on that helicopter?"
"No, but I think I know who did and I'm sure she wants me to keep looking."
So, Rhodey does.
Yinsen is killed, but Tony escapes.
He hasn't seen Moon since the time she took over a terrorist body.
Did she leave?
He, hope she didn't.
He's always had Moon by his side always. She was the only one that was actually there for him when things got bad and now when he needs her, she isn't.
There was no time to sulk not when he hears a helicopter fly over. Rhodey there he hopping out and Moon is flying towards him.
"Your safe Tony. You're safe."
Yeah, he knows. He knows he's safe.
He recalled those same words whenever Howard would yell and she took him to his room where she would whisper that he was safe. He at least knew for a the time being he was safe.
Rhodey has never seen Moon in his life.
He knows that she there, but he never sees her. Until one day where he's at the base and there's some strange iron rocket thing flying in the sky.
She stands before him with wide eyes and he even hears her.
"Rhodey don't let them shot. That's Tony Stark."
He does not ask how or why he's only now starting to see her. All he knows is his friend is about to get shot out of the sky and he does not take that well.
So, he does what any best friend would and that's telling the military to not shot the strange suit in the sky because damnit it he didn't want the military killing his best friend.
It's afterwards where he takes Moon aside then does his brain kick in that seeing someone there who isn't really there, isn't normal.
"I can see you."
"Surprised."
Then she gone flying through the wall leaving Rhodey alone before it really dawned on him that he can see Tony Stark so-called imaginary friends and he faints on the spot.
Because his brain is still trying to process how and why, since when oh boy it's been a big day because the military nearly killed his best friend. Did he mention that his friend was in some sort of flying suit?
Wait?
Was Tony dealing with terrorist?
Damnit it. He knew leaving Tony alone was a bad idea.
Pepper Potts knew she shouldn't have done it, but she was curious and so she dug a little deeper and she ended up finding that her boss, Godfather is actually selling weapons to terrorist and is the reason why that same boss ended up going missing. So, yeah, she dug around and yeah, she found things, will more than just things, more like a hit list and selling weapons to terrorist. Did she mention that bit?
Stark weapons had been known to be the best in the world after all. It, is why she is very glad now that Tony stop making weapons and suddenly started to focus on Stark pads and other technology. All well and good, but now she has a problem.
She found information and download it onto a USB to show Tony about these plans that Obadiah had been up to, but now she was in the room with Obadiah Stane and Mr. Stane was never really a person she wanted to be with in the same room to begin with. There's always been something of about the man only now she, understands why and she was currently alone with that said man. Hiding the USB.
She needed to lie her way out of it and would've too. If the cops hadn't suddenly show up and arrest Obadiah.
"Obadiah Stane you are here by arrest for attempt murder and treason."
"Treason? Murder? Whatever for?" Stane asked.
"How about treason against the Stark family name and your own country. While attempt murder on me," Tony said. Walking beside both Happy and Rhodey.
"You've got no proof of this."
"I do believe that we do. Don't we Ms. Potts."
He opened up his hand and Pepper walked towards the door passing the USB over.
"It's also all on that laptop of yours. Isn't it, Obadiah?"
"How did you know?" Stane asked.
"Oh, that's simple. A ghost told me."
Pepper felt a sudden chill beside.
And, that is how Obadiah Stane found himself in prison.
"You know I can see her right," Rhodey admitted to Tony one day.
After the world had found out Iron man was Tony Stark, Rhodey took that information without a problem it was the information of a woman standing in the lab humming away.
"I can also hear her to."
"Yep, that's nice Rhodey," Tony said not at all paying attention.
Rhodey huffed and turned to the woman who was playing with her hair.
"So, um. Are you like dead?"
What? He didn't know how to speak to ghost. There's no, what to ask and what not to ask guidebook 101, when it comes to speaking to ghost.
"Duh," she said rolling her eyes. "Of course, I am. I wouldn't be, see through if I wasn't."
Rhodey decided that she wasn't at all any help and with that he did some research on how to speak to ghost 101, because maybe there was something on the web about this situation. Surely, his best friend isn't the only one who's been putting up with a spirit since he was a kid. Right?
Right?
No, stop showing him cartoon clips. Damn google.
"Alright, what's going on here?" Clint asked. "I keep seeing a woman."
Natasha raised an eyebrow.
"Not like that. I meant a woman. Like a dead woman? Like she there, but she isn't. And, she flies through walls."
He pointed a finger to try and prove this because there she was looking around the base.
"And, nobody else sees her."
"I see her," Natasha said.
"Oh, thank god."
"Wait, you see me?" the woman asked.
The two agents nodded their head.
"Huh, how strange that the only people in this world who can see me are the Avengers. Must be something to do with how you lot are my only connection to this world. Hmm, interesting."
"Nat, did you understand any of that?" Clint asked.
Natasha shook her head.
The strange woman was slowly floating towards the celling still frowning, and thinking about the matter with a serious expression rubbing her chin.
"So, who are you?" Clint asked.
"Tony Stark isn't as mad as the world thinks he is," she said.
Then she just flew through the ceiling.
She flew!
Through a ceiling!
Who does that?
"Are you going to see Tony?" a woman asked Phil.
"Yes, I have a few questions to ask him."
"Really. Mr. Agent wants to see Tony, how wonderful. But you won't get what you're looking for."
Agent Phil isn't too sure how the woman even knows his name.
"Do I know you?"
"No," she said. "But I do know you. Gosh, it's so fun to speak to people again to be seen again. I never thought I'll say that, but it's true."
Then he watched the woman sink into the ground before she vanished.
She sank through the ground!
And, vanished.
Phil was trained to do a lot of things. This was not one of them.
DUM-E had done it again.
Tony Stark ended up having the fire extinguisher on him.
He wasn't impressed.
"Good boy," Moon said being supportive.
"Stop supporting him," he said.
It was just a normal day at Stark tower.
"Yes, you are you're a very good boy," Moon said ignoring Tony as she spoke to DUM-E.
Yep, just another normal day.
"Happy birthday from me is never enough. Oh, no he had to go racing in his own car. Not only did I have to put up with Hammer, but he went racing and ended up being attack."
Ivan was currently getting beaten to the ground by Iron man.
"I mean, really. I warned him. I did, but no he just went I'll have some fun Moon. It, be alright Moon, nothing bad would happen."
Iron man ended up in a wall.
"Gosh, that man is as stubborn like my father and he was a stubborn man."
Ivan was thrown into the air.
"I mean really. What does it take to get listen to around here?"
Ivan ended up being run over by Happy.
"I supposed I should've seen it coming don't know why I get my hopes up all the time."
She looked at a shirtless Ivan.
"Damn, man you are looking fine. Especially without a shirt."
"Moon!" Iron man yelled.
She turned to face Iron man.
"What? You bring home all those women I'm allowed to look at a hot piece of work." She turned back to face Ivan. "Shame you'd evil through."
"Tony Stark isn't a man to be trusted with such power," Hammer said. "He's clearly not all there in the head. So, why should we let him have Iron man suit."
"Me to."
Senator Stern raised an eyebrow.
"Mr. Stark?"
"Actually, he isn't talking to you," Rhodey said. "He's talking to Moon."
"You see the voice in his head is even given a name. So, why should theā¦"
"Yep, I know. I'm bored to," Tony muttered cutting of Hammer.
Hammer saw something a woman standing next to Stark. Will, she wasn't standing she was floating. She noticed him and waved.
He slowly waved back.
"Hey, cool. Hammer jerk sees me too."
Tony blinked and glance at the pair. The woman kept waving and Hammer kept waving too.
"Mr. Hammer, what are you waving at?" Stern asked.
"He's waving at Moon," Rhodey said.
"And, who is Moon?" Stern asked.
"Tony ghost friend," Rhodey said.
"Or, as you put it the voice in my head that I name," Tony said air quotes.
"She real," Hammer said star struck by the news.
"Yep," Tony said.
She went through the floor.
She just went through the floor and suddenly popped right in front of Hammer.
"Boo."
Justin Hammer fainted on the spot.
"Not going to lie. If there was a marvel world, I would end up in this world would be it. Because damn the men are looking just fine."
"Mr. Hammer."
Thus, the court case was, cancel.
Natasha is undercover where she sees the woman again only, she's furious.
"Who, do you think you are walking around here stealing information?" the woman asked. "Does Fury think this is a smart plan. Letting someone like you collect information on a possible future teammate. Or, yeah, great idea. Let's do that. No, wonder the team failed. There was no foundation."
"Who are you?" Natasha asked.
"I'm a nobody in a somebody life," she said. "And, I don't give a damn who you think you are, but you have no right to be here."
"And, what does that mean?"
"It's means Ms. Natasha. Yeah, that's right I know your real name Ms. Rushman and I don't want you walking around here. So, you stay away from Tony Stark."
"I haven't done, anything, beside I work here."
Play it cool and go along with it maybe she, move on, but that does not seem to work for this situation.
The lights started to flicker.
"Ms. Moon I do advise to stand down your emotions seem to be affecting the electricity," Jarvis said.
Clint had told Natasha that he was the only one who could see Moon when she was at the base. Until he told Natasha about the woman and later on Phil had mentioned her. But now the AI also knows about her then she remembered.
Tony Stark isn't as mad as the world thinks he is.
Mad Stark because he always rambled on to nobody, but it turned out that nobody was indeed somebody and she was pissed off.
"I'm not a threat."
"No, but you're not reading him either," she said. "You're just seeing him how the press sees him. How the world wants to see him."
"If I read the real him will that be enough to calm you down?" Natasha asked.
She didn't want to get into a fight with something she can't hit.
"Moon?" Stark voice was heard. "Moon, what's going on?"
"Stark knows you're here."
"He's always known. And, I know Tony Stark better than anyone. Even better then you Ms. Superspy. So, if you want to keep your life then I suggest you read him correctly. Or, I'm going to haunt you. And, it won't be fun for the living."
A twisted smile grew on the ghost face her voice getting deeper.
"Moon?" Stark called out.
"But it be fun for me."
"Ms. Rushman."
Natasha turned around.
"What is going on here?" Stark asked.
She turned back to face a more demonic looking Moon.
"We we're um just talking."
Stark raised an eyebrow because no doubt he knew Moon better than she did and no doubt Moon didn't look like a demon with a mouth full of teeth, most of the time.
"She was giving me some advice."
Moon turned back to her normal self in a flash.
"Yes, just some advice," Moon said playing along.
"About what?"
"That not all is what it seems," Natasha said.
Moon flew towards Tony.
"Tony, guess what she can see me. Isn't that great?"
"Yeah, yeah that's great Moon."
Great, not only did Natasha have a ghost that disliked her, but no doubt Stark did to for upsetting the ghost in Stark tower. Moon was right she will have to rewrite that report.
"So, why do you think people can see you now?" Tony asked when he was down in the lab.
"I dunno."
Tony got a feeling she knew or at least had theories on the matter.
Fury expected to deal with a lot things when it comes to Tony Stark. A ghost woman was not one of them.
"And, I know you have spies watching him."
Just keep walking Fury.
"He also knows your coming. I told him. But he doesn't like that because we had been having a lovely chat."
Just keep walking.
"If you're some superspy. Why don't you drive to the donut place? Or, does your little James Bond group only have planes, but no jeeps?"
Just keep walking.
"Did you know Howard? I know in some worlds you sort of did know him, some words you didn't, man you must be really old if you did know Howard."
Just keep walking.
"How come you couldn't send a good-looking Agent?" she asked. "I mean you're really handsome and all don't get me wrong, but you might be far too old for my liking."
"Stark, do something about your ghost before I find someone to remove her." Fury said to the man that was sitting on top of the donut shop in his iron suit.
"Tony, I think he's ignoring me."
Maybe Moon was right. He should've gotten someone else to do this job.
Tony didn't die that's always a good thing.
"Turns out I won't be joining you."
"Yay!" Moon cheered. "I told you."
"So, how does all that afterlife stuff work anyway?"
"I have no idea. I don't even know how I ended up here."
Tony was disappointed.
"Will how was I meant to know the military would sell the suits to Hammer," Rhodey said.
"It's the military."
"Good point, but still give me some slack. Also how did you know Hammer was making them?"
"Moon told me," Tony said pointing to Moon who waved.
"Of course, she did."
That would also be the same night where Ivan ended up dead and Hammer behind bars.
Happy sees her next.
Boss is in the car ready to go where he sees a woman next to boss.
Not odd, it was boss, but boss also stop sleeping with women when he dated Ms. Potts.
Then the woman was gone and suddenly next to him she was see through. He could actually see the car door, just by looking at her.
"So, where do you want to go boss?" he asked.
It was best to be professional he can freak out when he's not working.
Pepper sees her next.
She feels cold spots around her and she knows Tony always talks about a Moon.
More of an older sister than anything else, possible more than a mother then Maria had been so when she saw Moon, she wasn't freak out because she can see her.
She was more freak out by her shouting.
"Pepper!" Moon shouted with glee.
"Argh!" Pepper screamed.
"Tony, she actually heard me this time."
Tony poked his head in the room.
"You can see her?" he asked.
Pepper nodded.
"Is that not normal?"
"Mad Stark," he said reminding her. "So, to most people no."
Pepper can see her.
Did Moon just go through a wall?
And is she floating outside?
It was the top floor of the tower!
Thus, this is why Pepper Potts fainted. Not because of a ghost, or the shout, but because a woman was doing spins in the air after flying through the wall of the top floor of the tower.
Captain America didn't see her.
Not for a long time that's for sure. Oh, yes, he knows books would fly towards him or knives, or really anything would try and seriously harm him. So, Steve puts up with it.
"Do you know there is a spirit near you?" Thor asked.
"Yes, we know," Natasha said.
"Do you know why she here? It is a little odd that one as old as her would still be around on Earth."
This is when Steve started to see her maybe because she was furious that someone called her old.
"Will I never," she said with a huff. "Now, I see why I was more of a Greek God person."
"Is she evil?" Natasha asked.
"Only to some," Stark answered.
Moon tossed a book at Steve he used his shield to block it.
"No, not at all. I sense none from her. I just find it curious that's she here," Thor said.
"She always been here," Stark said. "Moon stop throwing books at Cap."
She threw the last book at him before she floated through the walls.
"You've known the spirit for some time."
"Yep, since I was a kid. She said she was once an imaginary friend. And, no Bruce she not a member of the family. So, it wasn't like she died and haunted me for that. Always said she had nothing better to do whenever I ask why."
She started throwing knives. Who gave Moon knives?
Steve used his shield to block the knives.
"I'm here because I am," Moon said. "Beside I'm not from this world."
"Does that bother you?" Thor asked.
"It used to. I had a daughter you know a husband to, but I died and somehow ended up here and yeah, I used to miss them still do, but things have changed so have I. And, I'm okay with that in a strange way."
"Why?" Bruce asked.
"No, throwing knives either," Stark said.
The knives stop being thrown.
"I found another brat to look after. Now, I wonder if I can get a hold on guns."
Stark eyes widen as Moon flew through a wall.
"Moon! Don't you dare."
Off, Stark went chasing after a ghost.
She wasn't to shock that the Gods could see her.
They we're Gods, after all, but during the battle something strange had happened and she saw Yinsen.
"There is another spirit here," Thor said.
Tony had just sent the nuke to space with the hulk catching him.
"I cannot see him though like I can with Moon."
"I can," Moon said. "Yinsen, why are you here?"
"I'm here to take you home," Yinsen said.
"Why now?"
"There's been a mix up. I'm just the message the Gods from your own world have noticed and are not too happy about it. So, they've request you to return."
"But that means I'm gone for good."
"The spirit never dies only the body does, but in a sense yes at least you will no longer have access to this world."
She won't be able to see Tony again.
"What about Tony?" she asked.
"In death we all see one another again. I'm sure, you can see Stark again when it's his time."
She wanted to go back to see her family.
She took a deep breath in.
"Tell Tony not to meet me too soon," she told the Avengers.
The last thing the team saw was bright light before the light of Iron man Arc reactor started to shine.
"Please, tell me nobody kissed me."
There was a pause.
"Where's Moon?"
The Avengers exchanged looks before Steve step up and informed him. (Tony didn't handle that news too well.)
When Tony Stark dies to save those, he loved he wasn't welcomed by Howard Stark. He was welcome by Moon, but she appeared as an old woman to him this time. It didn't matter though because he knew who it was.
"Tony."
She took him into a hug.
"Welcome my hero. Come on. I'll show you the family."
He left people behind, but he was welcome by those who left long before him.
The yin and yang to death.
