Marinette was extremely nervous. She had about 20 different pregnancy tests in front of her. They were all positive.

Marinette was now panicking. She had been living with Jason for almost 5 years. They were not married. Neither she nor Jason saw this as a necessity. What worried her most was the fact that they had never talked about having a child together. It was like an unspoken promise that they would not have one. The world they lived in was far too dangerous, too bloody, too unpredictable to want to add the "child" factor.

Being pregnant was definitely not in her plans. How could it have happened? She was always very careful, she took birth control, Jason always used a condom… So WHEN?!

Then, as if her mind was playing a bad joke, she remembered a moment. About two months ago, Marinette and Jason had been infected with Poison Ivy pollen. What had followed was… intense nighttime activity.

Without any protection.

So that was it, the one and only time she didn't protect herself, she got pregnant? Was it possible to do something like that? On the first try?

Marinette refused to believe it. There had to be a mistake. So she did the most logical thing she could think of, she went to Leslie to ask her to take a blood test. She had to know for sure.

Leslie confirmed the news once again: she was pregnant.

Her reaction was very simple, she burst into tears. It was impossible, she didn't want to lose Jason. In her mind it was obvious that her boyfriend was going to leave her the moment he heard the news. Leslie tried to reassure her, but it was all for naught.

Marinette was sure that this baby would bring her trouble. But Leslie advised her to think about it. She was six weeks pregnant and still had some time to decide whether or not she wanted to end the pregnancy. Leslie swore her to secrecy, no matter what her decision. The doctor would respect her choice and support her to the end.

Marinette went home pensive. She had never imagined that she would ever get pregnant.

She had grown up with the League of Assassins and had been Damian's nanny when he was little. Marinette had met Jason when Talia brought him in. She had been in charge of taking care of him. She was only 17 at the time. According to Talia, Jason was 15 years old and the adopted son of her " beloved ". Marinette had never understood Talia's feelings for Batman. The guy was an enemy of the League, why did she love him so much?

Marinette had taken care of Jason as best she could. Then one day Talia threw Jason into the Lazarus Pit and ordered Marinette to go with him to protect him. (Which in Talia's language meant "watch over"). Talia told Jason that Marinette would be at his service. As a sort of "henchman". Jason tried to lose her more than once, but never succeeded. Marinette stayed with him during Jason's 3 years of training with different types of experts. She helped him eliminate them since that was what Jason wanted. She helped him in his plans for revenge against Batman. She took care of him when he failed miserably and was injured by Batman.

She did one thing for Jason, however. She eliminated the Joker, understanding that the clown was the source of his distress. Seeing him in such a state of anger and sadness made her feel uneasy. Her heart tightened and she found it hard to breathe. It was because she wanted to get rid of this feeling of unease that Marinette had eliminated the clown. Jason was angry with her at first. He wanted Batman to eliminate the Joker. Marinette simply told him that it was stupid and that if he wanted to get revenge, he should do it himself instead of waiting for someone else to do it for him. The fact that Jason wasn't happy about the idea of her getting rid of the clown confused her greatly. She had gotten rid of a problem, so why was Jason taking it out on her?

"You should never have gone after the Joker alone!"

"He was in a cell, what could he do?"

"Damn it, you could have been killed! Batman could have captured you! I can give you a list of reasons why it was a shitty idea!"

"What's done is done. At least now he'll never hurt you again. Not you or anyone else."

"That's not the point. You could have… He could have… If you were… I…"

He left without finishing his sentence.

A strange feeling was happening in her stomach. As if her stomach was twisting. It was a strange pain she had never experienced before. Marinette had a deep attachment to Jason. She didn't know herself why she stayed by his side when her mission was already over. Marinette did it because she wanted to, even though she couldn't explain why staying with that idiot made her happy. Jason was a complete jerk. He was impulsive, short-tempered, emotionally unstable.

Marinette found it hard to understand him. Jason often gave her blankets to sleep on at night, telling her to be careful not to catch a cold. He often prepared meals for her. He often yelled at her for trivial things.

Yes, she had run into armed men who were shooting at her. So what? They had to be stopped and this was the quickest way to do it. Why wasn't he happy?

Yes, she had been wounded on their last mission against traffickers. So what? She had great resistance to pain and had been trained to go through with a job with or without injury. She could endure anything, what was his problem?

Marinette was exasperated by his attitude. She had the feeling that he didn't trust her. She was an experienced assassin. She was used to battle, she was a fighter! Why didn't he ever trust her? Why did he always doubt her? They had known each other for years, right? Didn't he think she was worthy of accompanying him?

Eventually, Jason got close to Batman again. Well, not Batman exactly, more like Batman's allies. They were apparently Jason's brothers. Nightwing in particular was nice to her. Red Robin was more suspicious. As for her young master Robin, he spent his time wanting her exclusive attention. She got along well with Cassandra. She later learned that she was the older sister of this girl. They both had Lady Shiva as their mother, although Marinette did not have the same father as Cassandra. Damian often stuck to her. She let him, he was her young master after all. This seemed to irritate Jason, which intrigued Marinette greatly. What was his problem again?

Batman, however, made it very clear that he did not accept her. Marinette wondered if the Joker was this guy's secret lover. She had heard Jason argue with Batman about him before. Marinette never stayed to hear the end of it. It was none of her business.

Then one day, Ra's Al Ghul himself ordered her back. Although Marinette had spent most of her life in Talia's service, her master was Ra's. So she obeyed. Marinette had no desire to leave, but she couldn't go against her master's order. She left without a word. Jason had now found his people. The mission was over.

Ra's decreed that from that moment on, she would be directly under his command. Marinette obeyed. She resumed her life as if nothing had happened. She started to kill for her master again and to follow his every command. That was why she had come into the world anyway. Marinette thought of Jason sometimes, when she was alone. She wanted to see him again, but asking her master Ra's was not an option. Marinette was sure the man would punish her.

Almost a year and a half later, Ra's gave her an order: kill Damian Wayne.

Marinette felt her blood run cold. For the first time, she hesitated. Damian was her young Master. Why?

"Isn't Master Damian your heir?"

"Lady Noire, since when do you dare question one of my orders?"

"Forgive me Master. I… I don't understand your request."

"Lady Noire, you don't have to understand my orders, just carry them out. But to answer your question, Damian is no longer worthy of me. Therefore, he must be eliminated."

Marinette left for Gotham. She had no desire to carry out this order. She had practically spent her entire life caring for Damian. Marinette had seen him born, she had seen him grow, she had even trained him. She had deep feelings for her young master. And then there was Jason. Would he forgive her for killing his little brother? Marinette missed several opportunities to eliminate Damian. She also did her best to avoid Batman's allies. She would do anything to avoid Jason.

Finally, one night, instead of taking out Robin, she came to his aid. This kid was so confident and sure of himself that he was a complete idiot. He was about to fall into a trap, and she stopped him. Marinette realized that she could never obey Ra's order. She simply informed Damian of her grandfather's intentions and left immediately, without giving him time to say anything.

She didn't go very far. Soon she was surrounded by assassins. Her act was considered a betrayal to their master Ra's. She had to be eliminated. Normally, eliminating all these assassins would not be a problem for Marinette. The problem was that she had her own mother Lady Shiva in front of her. Marinette knew she didn't stand a chance against her. Marinette understood why Ra's had ordered her to eliminate Damian. Her master knew very well that she would never do it. What Ra's wanted was an excuse to kill her.

So, this is how years of loyalty were rewarded?

Yet that night, Shiva never had time to attack her, simply because Batman and the whole cavalry appeared, standing between her and her mother. To Marinette's surprise, Shiva retreated with the other assassins.

Jason was there. He came up to her and took her in his arms. Marinette had no idea how to react.

Why had they helped her?

Why was Jason there? He hated Batman!

Why was he hugging her like that?

Why did it give her a strange feeling in her stomach?

After that, things got confusing for Marinette. Jason told her that Ra's had made everyone think he had kidnapped her and was holding her prisoner. Jason had spent the entire year tracking Ra's. His master wanted to divert their attention so he could get Damian. He needed a new body to implant his soul in, since the waters of the Lazarus pit were no longer working. Marinette quickly understood why Ra's was sending her on so many different missions to so many different places. As soon as Jason got close to her, Ra's would send her away. When Marinette returned to Gotham, they all thought she had simply escaped.

Marinette understood exactly what was going on. Ra's had wanted to use her to get rid of his grandson once he realized he couldn't have him. His goal was to eliminate her in retaliation against Batman and the others.

Marinette didn't dare contradict them.

After that, Jason became a real stickler and would never leave her alone. Little by little, she was able to put her emotions into words. Despite her fear of losing him, Marinette was the one who made the first move. One evening, they were taking a break on a roof. They had been on patrol for two hours, but nothing had happened. Marinette grabbed Jason's helmet and started running and jumping from roof to roof. Jason began to chase her. Eventually he caught her as she was about to jump to another roof. The two of them ended up falling and rolling to the ground on the roof of the building. Jason found himself on top of her.

"Oh… I got caught…"

"You had no chance to escape me, kitten."

"Hm-Hm… This deserves a reward."

She grabbed his face with her hands and placed a kiss on his lips. Marinette thought Jason would push her away and get angry, but instead he kissed her back. She couldn't say how long they stood on that roof kissing. But she did remember that they were interrupted.

"Last time I checked; your patrol time isn't over. You'll have plenty of time to finish your… activities… later."

The voice was Batman's. Marinette could see Red Robin taking a video and probably sending it to everyone.

Five years had passed since those events.

Marinette and Jason had never been apart. There had been ups and downs, but despite everything, they were still a couple.

Was she capable of being a mother? What would she teach this child? The only thing she knew how to do was kill!

Marinette said nothing to Jason. She didn't know how to tell him, she wasn't even sure she should tell him. Alas, her condition was not improving. She was nauseous, feverish and eating very little. Marinette did everything she could to keep Jason in the dark, but her boyfriend was no fool. He had noticed that something was wrong.

Two weeks went by. Marinette was still in a panic and didn't know what to do.

After that time, Marinette decided to go visit Leslie. She needed to talk to someone. What she didn't plan on was finding herself in the middle of a hostage situation. Marinette had planned to stop at a convenience store to buy the ingredients to make a cake once she got to Leslie's house. Of course, with the luck she'd been having lately, she should have anticipated that something similar would happen.

It was annoying, but there was nothing she could do.

They were amateurs. The problem was that the police had arrived on the scene very quickly and the guys were now surrounded. They were getting nervous and as a result, they started to attack the hostages. And of course, she had to be the first one on the list. One of the men grabbed her violently by the wrist and pulled her against him. They used her as a shield and asked the police to leave or they would shoot her. Marinette felt panic come over her as the man in front of her pointed his gun at her stomach.

No.

She felt terrible again. She couldn't let this guy kill her baby. It was… It was HER baby… It was the baby she had created with Jason. Those guys… they couldn't take that child away from her.

"Please, let go of me, you're hurting me."

"Shut up, b*tch."

She heard the man take the safety off his gun. Her panic only increased. This guy was really going to shoot her. Completely panicked, Marinette shouted the first thing that came to her mind.

"I'M PREGNANT!"

This had two effects. The first was that the police seemed to hear her and finally backed off. The second was that the man who was holding her back let go of her at once. Marinette, who was not feeling well at all, felt as if her legs had turned to jelly. Her knees gave way and she fell to the ground. Her first instinct was to put her arms around her stomach.

"Don't… Don't hurt my baby."

Then things happened very quickly. The two men present began to argue. One saw Marinette as an opportunity to get out of the situation and the other did not want to use a pregnant woman. Marinette was in the middle of this chaos. She couldn't move, not that she didn't want to, but she couldn't. It was as if all the strength in her body had left her. Her head hurt like hell, her body was completely numb. The only thing she could do was to try to protect her stomach at all costs.

There was noise, a lot of noise.

In the middle of this chaos, Marinette finally felt a hand on her shoulder, then she felt like she was floating. Her vision was completely blurred and then black out.

Marinette woke up in the hospital. The stress had caused her blood pressure to rise, which was what had made her pass out. And now in that hospital bed, Marinette knew it was only a matter of time before the others arrived. Before Jason arrived and forced her to have the conversation she'd been trying to avoid for two and a half weeks.

To her relief, no one asked her a single question. It was only later, once they were alone in their apartment, that Jason asked the question she had been dreading.

"Marinette… Are you pregnant?"

Marinette was petrified with fear. Alas, there was no turning back. She didn't really have the strength to answer him, so she just nodded her head up and down. And finally, with all these emotions, with all the fear she had felt, all the stress she had accumulated until now seemed to erupt like a volcano. She started to cry.

"I'm sorry…I…I didn't mean it! It's just… I…"

She couldn't stop crying. It was as if her life was now completely over. Yet Jason didn't scold her, on the contrary, he sat next to her and hugged her.

"Shhh… It's okay."

-XxxX-

Marinette had been acting strangely lately. Jason had no idea what was wrong. He had tried to talk to her, but Marinette seemed to be on the verge of tears whenever he tried to ask her a question. He told himself he would take it easy and wait for her to come and talk to him. His concern only increased when Leslie asked about Marinette. She was supposed to come and see her a week ago, but she had never done so. He tried to get some information from Leslie, but she refused to tell him anything.

Then he got a call. Marinette had been caught in the middle of a hostage situation and was now in the hospital. Jason felt like his world was falling apart.

Marinette, the woman he loved with all his heart, the love of his life, was in the hospital. Jason clearly expected the worst. He sent a quick message to the family chat room and hurried to the hospital. Soon, one by one, family members began to arrive.

Then the doctor showed up. Informing her that Marinette was fine, but more than that…

"[…] And the baby was also fine."

Jason's brain stopped working. He still managed to stammer.

"Wait, Baby? What baby?!"

"Well, your girlfriend is seven weeks pregnant."

"SHE'S WHAT?!"

The news came as a bombshell. Suddenly, Marinette's strange behavior took on a whole new meaning for Jason.

She knew it.

That's why Leslie had called, asking about Marinette.

The doctor recommended that she not be rushed at this time, as it could be dangerous for her. Jason managed - with Alfred's help - to calm everyone down and, most importantly, to leave him alone to talk to Marinette for the time being.

Jason seriously needed to know why Marinette hadn't told him. He was sure there was a good reason. It was strange, he had never thought of that possibility. He wasn't sure how to handle the news. They were both very careful.

A child.

They had never talked about it. Jason didn't know if he could be a good father. The men who had been his role models had always disappointed him. Marinette had never spoken to him about it. He'd just assumed she didn't want one and that was fine with him. But now he wondered, why had they never had this conversation before?

Seven weeks… There was a little being with them for seven weeks now… Something they had created together. It was a strange feeling. It didn't feel like it was real.

Jason finally understood what was going through Marinette's mind when he asked her directly and she burst into tears.

"I'm sorry… I… I didn't mean to! I just… I…"

Did she really think he would blame her for that? For something he had played a big part in producing?

It took him a while to calm her down.

"I… You… don't hate me?"

His only response was to place his lips on hers and kiss her with all the passion he was capable of. Then, he put his forehead against hers. They looked into each other's eyes for a moment.

Suddenly, they didn't need to talk anymore. He caressed her cheek gently. Marinette finally smiled at him.

They had made this baby together, so they would take care of it together.

Like a family.
