Bodyguard
Aanya knelt at her dad's grave. She was legally 20, though in real life she was actually almost 19. Which was really convenient because when she was actually barely a teenager her dad had decided that it was time she learned how to drive. And her dad had died when she had turned 'legally' an adult. (In real life she was 16)
Of course how would a 16 year old who never went to school know how to control finance? Aanya would like to think she had done okay. She still carried out the basic things like assasiniation mission so she could feel somewhat more comfortable.
But other than that she didn't quite know what to do. If she wanted to do something, Aanya decided, then it should have something to do with the hunter license she got when she was 14(12). It had taken three trials though.
The whole fake age was getting confusing.
She went to the Sengi Guild that would get her a bodyguard job. Her dad had shown this to her when she was 9.
"It can help you find people. These people are looking for people. If you think you're that person, tell the lady on the counter."
"What if the lady thinks I'm not good enough?"
"I'll train you. Then you'll be good enough for everything."
"Ok."
Was she good enough? She didn't know.
The lady glanced up from her counter. Aanya saw something beside the lady. It was pretty blue. It must be the lady's.
"Hello Miss what are you looking for?" the lady demanded.
"Uh…" what was she looking for? Some part of her said, 'someone to protect, someone who won't leave.' "a bodyguard job I guess."
"How long have you learned Nen?" the lady asked, "You seemed to have barely mastered it, with your flimsy aura."
That was rude. "I've learned aura for about 11 years, Miss and I don't think this question is necessary."
"True." the lady nodded, "Your teacher must not have been too skilled then." a Nen skull came from her body and other things too, mostly for defence.
She's testing me. Aanya thought miserably. She sighed detaching her Nen, circulating around the lady. As a result, the lady slammed into Zetsu. Aanya narrowed her eyes. Good enough.
The lady smiled, "I take it that you want top-notch jobs."
"Yes please."
Aanya left the Sengi Guild feeling quite grumpy. Her aura, naturally due to the fact that she was angry, resembled a stormy cloud on her head. She didn't like how her aura had a mind of its own linked to hers. It made her mood so transparent. This would change if she was fighting, but on normal days she would be transparent.
It took an insane amount of consciousness to make her aura normal/Ten.
She went back home and called Uncle Andrew.
"Hello Uncle? So about this job…"
A few months later…
Kurapika entered the Nostrade mansion. There were many people in the mansion. There was a short person with gray hair and teeth sticking out, a boy with an absolutely ridiculous hairstyle, a boy with black hair, brown skin, a boy with light brown hair. There were also two girls, one had purple hair in a bun, and another had black-red pigtails and golden eyes.
Kurapika looked up at the screen. There was a large built man with a short haircut. He had tattoos under the both of his eyes that reached his cheekbones.
He explained the rules, "In order to become a bodyguard you need to get…" he continued, "...skull of...hair of...skin of...the Scarlet Eyes."
Kurapika's blood level spiked. If he hadn't been wearing contact lenses, he would have been discovered on the spot. But he couldn't help himself. Scarlet Eyes, his clan's eyes, his eyes, regarded nothing more than jewelry something to obtain, a trophy.
"That is assuming that you leave this mansion alive."
People clothed in black and weaponed emerged from the other door and the front door slammed shut.
Bullets shot out. Kurapika easily caught them with his chains, but something was afoot. He jumped up the stairs as more of the people tried to attack him. He then jumped on the chandelier strangely enough the people just kept on attacking him. And strangely enough the people weren't attacking two people. First, the light brown haired person who kept on darting around, and the pigtails girl, who also had found a place far from the fight.
Kurapika dashed towards the light brown haired man. Just in time to crash right into the girl who had also ran towards him at the exact same time. The man tried to make a run for it, but both Kurapika and the girl grabbed him.
The girl rubbed her head, "Same idea?"
Kurapika ignored her and stuck a blade at the man's neck.
It took some explaining but eventually the man got rid of his clones and everyone was aware that there was another plant.
Kurapika used a Dowsing Chain on everyone, and the black haired man was determined as the plant.
The gray haired girl agreed, "Yes his heartbeat was one of a liar. But I am also concerned about her. Her heartbeat didn't change one bit when you landed the chain on her."
"That just means I'm chill right?" the exact same girl that had crashed into Kurapika reckoned.
"It could mean that you're confident you won't be caught."
"No. Even if the blonde boy had said it was me, I wouldn't have minded because it just means he's wrong."
The gray haired girl glanced wearily at the girl, "Your heartbeat is so steady it's scary."
"Thanks."
Then the bun man took out his haiku and the black haired man became a confirmed plant. Then the purple haired girl used her Nen and the dog trap was gone.
Everyone walked out of the mansion safely.
"Hey, my name is Aanya Viki, what's yours?"
"Melody."
"Basho."
"Blaise."
"I would rather not say my name. We still don't know whether we will be working with each other." Kurapika responded when everyone turned to him.
"Okay but which body part will you be taking?" no one answered Aanya, "I know I...won't be going for Scarlet Eyes. That would be so tricky! There are only 54 in the world mostly owned by rich mafia members! I'm not risking it!"
Blaise and Basho chorused their agreement. Melody looked at Kurapika. Kurapika trembled in rage. That Aanya! Talking about Scarlet Eyes like they were possessions, or watches, or dogs. They were eyes of people that had been brutally slaughtered! Clenching is fist he walked away.
When he came back, everyone except for Basho had brought something. Aanya looked bored as she held her one horned skull.
Everyone except Basho passed, and they were all shocked to find out that their boss was a childish teenage girl.
Then they went on the plan for the auction.
"Kurapika and Melody will inspect the front." said their bodyguard boss Dalzollene.
"Oh! Ah! Can I go too?" Aanya asked awkwardly.
"Ok…"
At the front post everyone was stiff. Maybe it was just Kurapika. Aanya opened her mouth.
"What do you have to do with Scarlet Eyes?" Aaya finally burst out.
Yes she knew that if he had something to do with Kurta he probably hated her. After all, she had purposely brought up the subject and BAM! He had raged and STORMED out of the mansion.
"Why do you ask that?" Melody curiously peeked out.
"Well when the man on the screen said 'Scarlet Eyes' I noticed that you were really upset. And then I brought it up when we were leaving the mansion, and you were in such a bad mood instantly."
Kurapika seemed to be thinking, and during that time Melody popped in, "I noticed that your heartbeat sang a song of rage and hatred whenever Scarlet Eyes were mentioned."
Kurapika sighed, "I'm the last surviving Kurtan. I'm on a quest to retrieve my clans eyes."
"Who took a page out of the hero's quest script?" Aanya exclaimed, Kurapika looked at her with visible confusion, "Anyways continue." she added hurriedly.
"I am also getting involved with the auction to capture the Phantom Troupe."
"Cool." was all Aanya knew to say.
"I come from Meteor City. I want to find the Sonata of Darkness. It is a script that killed my friend and-" Melody rolled up her sleeve to reveal an absolutely hideously crippled arm, "disfigured me. I heard that a piece was to be sold in the auction."
Aanya should have felt bad for them but she felt jealous. Even with so many things taken from them at least they knew what to do with their life. At least they had lived up to the age of 7 with more than 2 people who had shown them kindness. At least Kurapika didn't grow up in Meteor City. At least Melody knew something in life besides killing.
"Oh that's bad. Having a great friend die. And having your clan slaughtered." she added at Kurapika's look.
But you know what else is bad? Her brain screamed, Having your father's chopped up body delivered to you through a package after he failed his assassin mission. And then knowing nothing else to do besides kill the person. Then not knowing how to give him a proper funeral because in Meteor City, you just dump peoples bodies on the ground.
"Why are you becoming a bodyguard?"
"Uh…" it didn't seem fair not to give them an answer but… "I…"
Why had she become Neon Nostrade's bodyguard? To finally be able to keep someone important to her? To find a way to kill only to protect? Those were side causes but not the main drive. What was the main cause?
"Come on. If it's bad we won't judge you." Kurapika encouraged softly.
It's not like that! Her brain cried. I don't know myself! Viki isn't even my real last name! I don't have one!
I don't have a name. In Meteor City, I'm V.
And my brother is C.
"I-want to find my brother. Like Melody, I grew up in Meteor City. When I was 2 my brother ran away. When I was 4 he came back only to teach me basic Nen and leave when I was 6. To become a thief. He said he was going to come back with a castle."
"For the amount of coaxing it took, I thought it would be bad." Melody smiled reassuringly."
