A/N: I just love Valentin and Anna, so here I am just going to write little drabbles, scenes, and one shots for them. They may be unrelated, from random time periods, etc. I'll try to establish timing either in the A/Ns or the stories themselves.
This first one is based on the prompt "boy toy" from a Vanna fan.
Boy toy.
It irked Anna that Robert had called Valentin that. Her boy toy.
He has been very helpful with Peter.
Robert's texted response was quick. No, he hasn't. If he had, Heinrich would be in custody. He just follows you around like a puppy.
Robert even had the audacity to use the puppy emoji. Anna didn't dignify that with a response and instead swiped away from the text in annoyance.
Valentin was sly and vindictive. A German Shepherd, maybe, but certainly not a puppy.
He was debonair, with charm he could turn on and off like a faucet. He was well-traveled, well-read, a good conversationalist, and he could behave like a complete chivalrous gentleman when the situation called for it. He was probably a genius - an evil genius, some would say.
That's what other people saw in him.
But Anna knew the truth.
Surgery fixed his body, but it couldn't fix his soul. The confidence (really, arrogance) that he projected on the outside was merely a persona to disguise his insecurities on the inside. He was still a broken man who had struggled with loving and being loved his whole life. When he loved, he did so passionately, recklessly, and eternally.
As the decades long object of his affection, Anna knew that firsthand.
Others knew Valentin Cassadine. But Anna knew Ivan Theodore, and she had spent years trying to reconcile the two into this complex man beside of her.
Anna cast a sideways glance at him on her couch. Her legs were curled up on the couch and lightly touching his — needlessly, really. The couch was plenty big for both of them not to have to sit so close together. Valentin's fingers were moving deftly across his phone's screen, in search of answers for Chase's antidote.
Valentin's brunette locks were mussed and sticking up from raking his hands through it in frustration. She had to admit that it did make him look boyish. Valentin finally felt Anna's eyes on him and looked up at her.
"What?"
"Nothing…" Anna shook her head. "I was just something Robert said."
Valentin rolled his eyes skyward momentarily then fixed them back on his phone. "What did your superhero ex-husband say now?"
"He… Called you my boy toy." Anna's cheeks flushed slightly at the admission.
An amused look played on Valentin's face as his eyes slid back over to hers. His fingers continued working his phone.
"Interesting… Why is that? Do you want to play with me?"
"Valentin!"
"Well, if I'm going to be called a toy, I should get some play time at least, don't you think?" Valentin asked in a low voice.
Valentin abandoned his phone to Anna's coffee table and gazed at her, waiting for her response.
There was Valentin in his swagger, but it was Ivan in his eyes.
Anna averted her eyes from his, but they just landed on his lips. "I…"
Valentin closed the distance between them and kissed her lips softly at first, then more urgently, tangling his hand into her hair to bring her as close as possible. Surprised at first, Anna melted into the kiss, moving her mouth to open his. Her palm rested against his jaw as their tongues danced together.
Suddenly, Valentin's phone buzzed its way insistently across the table. He groaned, pulling back reluctantly from Anna, then giving her another brief kiss on the lips.
"I have to get that. It could be about the antidote."
Duty calls. Anna thought . It never forgets or waits.
"Of course."
"We can play later..?" Valentin teased.
Anna traced a finger down her lips as he answered the call and smiled. "We'll see."
