The sound of the wind

Chapter 1

"My dear child Kazame… did I ever tell you the meaning of your name?" a voice asked in a whisper.

Steps could be heard in the background, making the little girl and her mother tense ever so slightly.

"Mama, I think the scary men are getting closer, I can hear them!" said the child, ignoring the question. Her mother looked at her with a torn look. With a deep breath she took her in her arms and hugged her tightly.

Looking towards the direction where the sounds were coming from, she prayed that everything would go according to plan. With one hand she took the little baggage that laid on the floor. Once again she set her eyes on her precious little girl. Beautiful lilac eyes looked back at her with a confused and mortified look, her light golden hair looked so much like her father's that she couldn't help but smile fondly, she was a perfect mixture of both of them. Setting aside the bag, she placed both hands in her red cheeks and sighed softly.

"My dear child, listen closely I don't have much time left…" At that the little girl eyes started watering and seemed to want to say something, but her mother continued "Kazame your name means the sound of the wind." She paused and let a little laugh out" It's almost ironic how the name he choose for you fits so well."

The girl furrowed her brows not understanding her mother words. Kazame was scared because the steps and the noise kept getting closer and closer. She saw her mom hurriedly take the bag she had been carrying and opened it swiftly, only to take out a weird looking fruit.

"Kazame" said the red haired woman, her tone serious.

Her voice was starting to break and her eyes kept fighting the tears that were threatening to fall.

"I'm so sorry mama put you through this... I'm sorry I won't be there to watch you grow and help you along the way… the only thing I can do right now is give you this" she said extending her arms "Eat this fruit and then run with all your might, Kazame!" exclaimed the woman placing the weird looking fruit in her daughter hands.

Not understanding what was happening, Kazame ate whole the fruit quietly, not daring to complain about the disgusting taste as she watched her mother tears fall softly. After seeing how her daughter ate the entire fruit the woman smiled through tears and cleared her throat.

"You have to survive no matter what!" She exclaimed "Run, get out of here and live your life as you want Kazame!"

"I heard a voice in this direction!" screamed a man voice and the steps started going to the floor in which they had been hiding.

"Mama…" cried the girl, watching her mother with horrified eyes as she gave her a small push with her shaky hands.

"I love you… Kazame" she said in a small voice

"Kazame, wake up!" She worked up sweating and with tears in her eyes. Looking at her surroundings and coming back to reality once again.

It's been a while since I had that dream, she thought bitterly.

Looking at the woman who woke her up she couldn't help but sigh and force an apologetic smile

"I'm so sorry, I shouldn't have fallen asleep in working hours." She said in a regretful tone. The older woman looked at her with stern eyes without an ounce of sympathy.

"If you know get back to work you useless girl!" She spat angrily, smacking her with a book she had in her hands.

Kazame fought the urge to kill her on the spot and bowed before rushing out to work.

She was currently on board of some rich people ship. Her objective was working as a maid in order to get information of certain man that some of the nobles might know. As she went to work she saw herself in a near mirror and sighed. Her outfit consisted of a white and blue maid outfit, some glasses and a white hat that covered most of her short blond hair. She'd been working there for about a month now and she was constantly treated like shit by those stuck up nobles.

"Hey, you there!" called a man voice.

Kazame kept waking, too distracted to notice someone was calling her "Hey! I'm talking to you, stupid maid" called again the same person. Noticing they were referring to her, she grit her teeth and once again forced a smile.

"Oh, please forgive me!" She started while hurrying to his side "What can I do for you today sir?" she asked politely, bowing her head as per protocol.

The man looked at her with a smug look and smiled grossly while looking at her legs.

"How old are you this year girl?" She cringed at the tone he used and tried her best to control her expression.

"Sixteen sir" she answered quietly.

He hummed and smiled once again, this time getting closer to her. "Quite the young thing, huh?" he said with a pleased smile, he placed his hand in her bare leg and looked at her with a lustful look.

Oh hell no that's it, she thought before raising one arm to strike him right in his ugly face.

But before she could even try the ship shook strongly making the perverted old man fall in his face along the other nobles who were standing in the deck.

"LISTEN CLOSELY!" A voice yelled, getting everyone's attention "We're the spade pirates and this ship is now under our control, if you stay put in your place we won't harm any of you" said the same guy, kazame couldn't help but notice his weird looking hat, she assumed he was the captain.

Taking advantage of the confusion she 'accidentally' stepped hard on that old geezer face with her heel and concealed a smirk when she heard him scream in pain under her feet. Without apologizing she started calculating her next move.

The pirates started collecting money and searching the ship up and down. Taking all the booze and food they could and putting it in their own ship. She decided that this was a good moment to get out of that stupid ship and change locations, she doubted those nobles were going to give her the answers she wanted anyway. Putting her best pitiful expression, she let tears stream down her face and went running toward the person she had no doubt was the captain.

"Please, take me with you!" she pleaded in a hoarse voice, crying loudly and looking desperate enough to call his attention.

He narrowed eyes on her and furrowed his brows.

"And why would I do that?" He asked looking unimpressed. She immediately understood this wasn't going to be so easy.

"Please… I will work for you and do all the chores you want, just please get me out of here, I'm begging you" She cried, her body shaking and inwardly hoping she looked as desperate as possible. When he kept looking at her blankly she decided to change tactics

"If I were to stay here... I don't know what those old man will do with me, please im begging you, take me with you!" She said looking down, trying her best to seem embarrassed and scared. At that he raised his eyebrows and looked at her for a few seconds.

"What's your name?" he asked a hint of curiosity in his voice.

"… Kazame" She answered quietly.

After what seemed like an eternity he smiled and finally told his answer "Very well Kesame, you will be in charge of the chores until we land on an island." He said firmly. At that she smiled widely, ignoring the fact he got her name wrong and bowed deeply to him, he simply brushed her off with a smile and informed his crew about the new addition.

They boarded the ship and started leaving behind the group of shocked nobles. Ace watched as Kazame silently watched with a smile the place the noble ship had been.

Unbeknown to the spade pirates the ship they had looted along with the nobles were currently drowning deep in the sea after a mysterious gust turned it over like a leaf.
