"You called for me?" Lieutenant Diana Prince asked General Darnell as she entered her office.

"Yes, but close the door. This is some sensitive information I will be sharing with you." He replied.

"Sure." She closed the door behind her and sat down. "So, what is it you want me to investigate?"

"Recently, we received intelligence that a scientist by the name of Dr. Henderson has been developing new technologies which could turn the tide of this war. But the issue is we don't know if he is genuine or not. And we do not want the Nazis to get their hands on these technologies. That is where you come in. We want you to pose as an interested apprentice and see if there is any truth to it or not. And do it fast because these gossips have reached Germany too, and surely they must be making their own plans too. "

"Do we know anything else about this ?" Diana asked.

"Unfortunately no, there is no mention of him in any scientific journals and we were not able to find and photographs of him. Anything else, Lieutenant?"

"Let me read the case files, and I will get on with the matter immediately."

"Good. This might very well be the one most important mission of your life. I hope I made the right decision in choosing you for this mission. Dismissed!"

A few hours later, in Diana's office:

"This scientist seems suspicious. There is not a single mention of him anywhere in the records. I should tread with caution. I wish I had more time to properly research about this fellow but time is of the essence here."

As she was making her final preparations about taking on a new identity, Major Steve Trevor entered her office.

"Hello Diana! Off for another secret mission for Gen. Darnell I see. Anything I can help you with?" he asked.

"Hi Steve. I think you can. But before I tell you that, you have to promise to keep this information to yourself."

"Sounds serious. Of course Diana, don't worry. I won't tell anyone else."

"Good. I am tasked to look into one Dr. Henderson who has apparently been developing groundbreaking technologies. But something just doesn't feel right. Could you look into it? If you do find anything suspicious, contact Wonder Woman."

"Will do. Good Luck, Diana."

Later, at Dr. Henderson's residence.

Having dressed as a science student, Diana approached Dr. Henderson's residence and knocked on the door.

"Just a sec." Someone called from inside. A few seconds later, Dr. Henderson opened the door. His appearance surprised Diana. Instead of the typical mad scientist look she had expected, he looked like a gentleman.

"Hello!" she said, trying to hide her surprise. "I am Diana Prince."

"Dr. Henderson" he replied, "Why would a lovely lady like you knock at my door?"

Handsome and charismatic. Maybe I was wrong about him.

"Actually, I wanted to be your apprentice. I have heard a lot about your advancements in scientist, and I would really love to work with a great mind like yourself!"

"Oh, is that so? Well, I try to remain anonymous, considering some of the stuff I have developed. But I see no harm in sharing some of my ideas with you, Ms. Prince. Come on in."

The interior of his residence was equally surprising. There were no science equipments. Instead the place was filled with paintings of famous artists. Having noticed that his guest was surprised with all the lack of equipments, Dr. Henderson said, "I like to keep my lab separate from my house. I like to collect paintings. How do you find them, Ms. Prince?"

"Oh, they are lovely." She replied.

"So Ms. Prince, tell me more about what interests you about science."

She had prepared for this. Having come from Paradise Island, her knowledge about science far exceeded what men had discovered. She told him about her interest in gravity and optics.

Satisfied that she was not faking it, Dr. Henderson led her to his secret lab.

"Welcome to my lab, Ms. Prince. Some of this stuff is dangerous, so don't tinker with anything please."

His lab was full of wonders; from test tubes bubbling with chemicals to huge generators glowing with light.

"Here he we have a shrinking chemical, which can turn even an elephant the size of an ant." He said, showing her a test tube.

"And here, mind controlling rays that can make the wildest of men tame."

"Here is an almost finished robot which can think like humans."

"And here, perhaps my greatest invention lays an alloy whose bullets can't be stopped even by Wonder Woman"

This last invention peaked Diana's interests.

"Sir, you can't possibly be serious! How can you claim that without any evidence?"

She realized she might have made a mistake in making that comment.

"I thought you wanted to be my apprentice. And as for my claim, I stand by it. But I won't be showing any more my inventions. Now leave!"

Attempting to rectify her mistake, Diana apologized," Oh, I didn't want to sound rude. You know what; I think I know how to make amends. What if I contact Wonder Woman so that we can verify whether your alloy is as good as you say? I am sure what you are saying is true, but we can be sure."

"Hmm… Interesting proposition. Quite tempting too. Fine, but I haven't yet forgiven you. How will you contact her anyways?"

"Oh, I can't tell you that. But I can get her to meet you tomorrow night here. Will that be fine?"

"Sure."

Next Day:

I have a feeling Dr. Henderson is hiding something. It's best if I hide my lasso before approaching him.

Tying her lasso around her leg to make it look like it was an amulet; Wonder Woman approached Dr. Henderson's residence.

"Oh! Wonder Woman. I had never thought I would ever meet you." Dr. Henderson exclaimed when he saw who was there at his door stop.

"Hello Dr. Henderson. Diana informed me you had an alloy which my bracelets couldn't stop."

"Yes. Come right this way."

He led her to his secret lab.

"Here, I made a few bullets to test. Put your bracelets on that dummy and let's see if my alloy is as good as I think it is."

"Oh, I don't think it will be necessary", she replied, "I am confident your alloy will not break my bracelets". But the real reason for her being reluctant was that if she removed her bracelets, she would go berserk.

My bracelets have been blessed by the gods themselves. No man made metal can do it any harm.

"Fine, if you say so. Ready?"

Meanwhile in Steve Trevor's office:

After hours of research, Steve was nearly exhausted. Deciding to look into one last lead, he started reading through the report.

This is not good. Have to contact Wonder Woman immediately.

He rushed to get the device through which he can send mental radio waves to her.

Wonder Woman. Can you listen? Diana is...

All of a sudden the machine stopped working.

At Dr. Henderson's Residence:

Ready."

"Firing"

Wonder Woman readied her bracelets to block the incoming bullets. But just as they made contact with her bracelets a surge of electric shock passed through her body.

"Ahhh... " she screamed. Her Amazonian resilience enabled her to maintain consciousness for a few seconds, but it proved too much for her too. Her limp body fell down.

Dr. Henderson looked at his prisoner and smiled. Finally... He shall have his revenge.
