if you can't tell i love thatch.
'thatch, smile yoi.'
'why?'
'cheers usually mean good things. remember if someones face is lifted, its usually a good thing yoi.'
'so we smile?'
'yes.'
'thats weird.'
the phoenix nodded in agreement.
'you know, marco was the one to teach me emotions.'
ace looked from thatch to the blank faced phoenix in disbelief.
'if someone makes that face, its usually followed by laughter yoi.'
'from who.'
'from you yoi. and anyone else that finds it amusing.'
'other people laugh too?'
the phoenix nodded.
'this is hard.'
'it is yoi.'
thatch chuckled, 'is it so hard to believe?'
ace looked the chef dead in the eye, 'ive never seen him smile. i saw his mouth lift once. once.'
'why do you do that.'
the phoenix tilted his head at the boy.
'you put your hand on your neck. why?'
'you do it when you're not sure what to say or you feel embarrassed. or caught off guard.'
'this is only for conversing?'
'yes.'
thatch rubbed his neck, 'ask pops or even jozu. they can't lie worth their salt.'
'hey marco.'
'hmm?'
'whats that mean. worth your salt.'
the phoenix patted his head, 'it means you can't do something to save your life.'
'is it a bad thing.'
'depends.'
'on what.'
'what you can't do.'
thatch nodded and smiled, 'thanks marco.'
the phoenix smiled back.
'I'll hold you to that,' ace shouted as he made his way to his father's chair, 'hey pops!'
'why don't you smile marco? pops is always smiling.'
'i do smile, you just can't tell yoi.'
'you can do that?'
the phoenix crouched to his brothers level, 'im doing it right now.'
'you must smile a lot then,' thatch pointed out.
'i do.'
thatch smiled at the ensuing chaos of his youngest brothers questions. he was giving jozu a run for his money with how loud he was being, the poor man wouldn't probably calm down til the sun went down.
thatch turned back into the galley. maybe he'd work on a small snack as a peace offering for his brother. it wasnt easy being subjected to their spitfire's antics.
