Hi all, this is my first fanfiction story. I am a Harry Ginny shipper and Ginny Weasley is actually my favourite character. So, this story diverges from the end of Cos. It will mostly contain canon events but Ginny and Harry are going to be the prominent characters of this story. There will not be any heavy bashing but I most probably be pointing out negative traits in people like Ron's hurtful behaviour, Hermione's bossiness and Molly's controlling behaviour, but everybody are going to be good people in my story (except Voldermort and his death eaters of course). It will mainly focus on how the diary changed Ginny from a sheltered child to a young girl with lot of insight and how she helps Harry become independent and proactive. I hope you enjoy this and please do review. I would love to know what you think about it and constructive criticism is appreciated.

J.K Rowling owns Harry Potter universe not me.

Ginny Weasley sat in her bedroom on the first-floor landing of the Burrow deep in thought. This was the first chance she got to sit peacefully in her room since she had returned from Hogwarts. For the past three weeks, her mother had barely let Ginny out of her sight.

Suddenly a loud bang from above brought her out of her musings followed by her mother's exclamation of "Fred and George Weasley! Get down here this instant. Oh my! Ginny dear must have gotten a scare " and with that, she barged into Ginny's bedroom. "Ginny dear you shouldn't be sitting all alone come help me make lunch. " Molly said while simultaneously ushering her out of the bedroom.

Ginny got up suppressing the urge to sigh and said "Mom, could I go to the orchard. The weather is nice today and the boys aren't playing either". Her mother looked hesitant and just as she was about to open her mouth Ginny said "I won't be long gone. I'll be back in an hour for lunch". Molly didn't look that hesitant anymore but Ginny anyways added "Fred told me our flower trees have bloomed there and I'd love to see if I can pluck some and make a flower arrangement" That did the trick. Molly had always wanted to be able to share such girlish things as flower arrangements, cooking, and knitting with her daughter but Ginny had never shown much interest. "Of course darling, you can go," Molly said with a smile "but be back in an hour," she said going back to fretting mode.

Once out of the house Ginny allowed herself a small smile and a few jumps to celebrate her finally being allowed out of the house without somebody hovering over her all the time. Sitting down on the lawn she began to sort out her thoughts. Her mind went back to when she woke up in the hospital wing the day after being rescued by Harry from the chamber. She heard her father say "I don't know what to do Albus, I can't believe my daughter was possessed by the darkest wizard of all time." This confused Ginny, why would Tom be the darkest wizard in history wasn't that 'you know who'. Her doubts were soon washed away and replaced with shock as she heard the headmaster's voice "You must understand Arthur that little Ginny thought she was speaking to a boy named Tom Marvolo Riddle without know that Riddle and Voldermort were the same. Whatever happened was not Ginny's fault she was tricked and used as a weapon. You scolded Ginny that she shouldn't have trusted a diary, but I must tell you that the diary would have been able to trick you had it come into your hands." however she wasn't able to hear the rest of the conversation as the headmaster and her father moved away from the door.

The fact that she had been corresponding with you know who for almost a year had been a horrifying revelation to her. She shuddered to think about what would have happened if Harry had not saved her in time which brought her to the next thing that took up most of the space in her mind- Harry Potter. The crush she had on the hero had made her act like a fool around him. The valentine that Fred and George sent Harry and him opening it exactly when she was around didn't help matters either. When she woke up in the chamber and saw Harry, she thought for a moment that he really was a superhero putting his life in danger in order to save others. But only for a moment until she realized that Harry didn't act like a hero at all. He looked about as confused as she felt. This made her doubt the image of Harry Potter she had in her mind and for probably the first time she actually saw 'Harry- a boy in her school'.

Ginny looked up at the clear blue sky and sighed, Harry looked rather thin for his age. In fact, he was so thin that you could probably call him malnourished. He didn't look very confident either more like he often tried to blend in a crowd. However, it was seeing his relatives at King's cross what made her realize why Harry was the way he was- malnourished and having a very low self-esteem. Their behaviour made her blood boil. The twins had said that there were bars on his windows and that he had been starved, but Ginny had been way too embarrassed last summer to give it much of a thought.

The boy had no sense of self-preservation either. Whatever Ron had told her a few days back about his first year at Hogwarts in a rare effort to be nice had made her understand this. Ron being oblivious to his best friend suffering at his relatives' as well as in Hogwarts was just another problem to add to the heap. Deciding to forget about her brother for now she focused on the most burning question she had "Wasn't Voldermort dead?". From what she understood he had tried to resurrect himself using unicorn blood and later the philosopher's stone and finally using the diary. Didn't this mean that Voldermort was not actually dead. He could have succeeded any of these times and come back. What if that happened? Would Harry have to kill him? The wizarding world would certainly expect the 13 year old to be their saviour and maybe he would. Hadn't he fought off Voldermort twice already.

What would happen Ginny wasn't sure, but one thing she was certain about was that she wanted to be prepared for his return. Being touched by darkness so deeply had left her with a burning desire to light a torch in every single dark corner, to try and ensure that what happened to her wouldn't happen to any other child. Harry had saved her life and she had to pay him back. Harry wouldn't expect anything but Ginny wanted to be able to help him the way he helped her.

Hearing her mother's voice call her brought her out of her thoughts. Getting up from her place under the apple tree she walked towards the burrow determined to make the best out of her life.
