This is the story of two lovers torn by greed and power, how their love was torn, tested and eventually mended. This is a tale of sorrow, betrayal and love between a young duchess held hostage in a foreign land and the young prince who promised his heart and soul to her.
Illyana Rasputin was the first cousin of Queen Perdita. (Their mothers were sisters). She was sent to Markovia when she was 3 years old before Perdita was born to secure a marriage between herself and one of the princes. She was, in essence, a political hostage. Nonetheless, she was treated with love and respect by the Markovian royal family. She was 3 years younger than her fiancée Brion but was only two years older than Tara and Perdita, so they became as close as sisters. Yet as she entered her teens, things began to change drastically. She was secretly tested for the meta-gene by Dr. Jace, whom she loved and trusted, shortly after she was kidnapped by Count Vertigo before Perdita became sick and sold to meta-human traffickers. She is Brion's fiancée and best friend with Tara Markov.
Brion is deeply in love with Illyana and takes her disappearance hard. During their engagement ceremony (Young Justice season 2 episode 1), the bounty hunter Lobo is after the robotic krolotean Illyana, who he tears in half in front of everyone at the ceremony and on national television. This is Brion's mad search to not only find the woman he loves but also the unearthing of ambitions and desires he long thought he buried.
