Beginning to Feel Again
It had been weeks, since that fateful night. Subaru hadn't talked to her since then. He hadn't talked to anyone since then. Instead, he remained holed up in his apartment. Even now, he refused to leave, staring at all his missed calls from his friends. Otto had called five times, Garf three. But he never answered them, he just let them go straight to voicemail. He was waiting on one specific person to call him, yet she never did. It was tearing at his heart. He brought the slice of pizza to his mouth, still staring at the bright screen. Toppings fell off, and yet he still didn't care about the mess he made. He just sat waiting, waiting and waiting. By the time he went to go grab another slice, he only felt empty cardboard.
That is what made him look away from his phone. The pizza box was empty, so he pushed it off the table with the others, and went to go dial Pizza Hut again. But before he could, there was a knock at the front door. This grabbed Subaru's attention more than an empty pizza box. Was this her? Was this Emilia? Had she come to talk to him again? Had she figured out her emotions like she said she would, and would now give him a straight answer?
"C-Coming!" He called out, his voice weary from not being used in the past few weeks. He pushed himself off the couch, and made his way to the door. When he opened it, it was not the Silver-haired girl that had been haunting his mind these past few weeks, but instead it was the Orange-haired girl that he had scene once or twice.
"Priscilla? Wha-What are doing here?" Subaru asked confused, unable to process why this girl he had barely met was at his house.
"Is this how you really great me, looking like that?" She hmphed out, staring at the mess that was Subaru.
Subaru's normally pristine Tracksuit was a mess, covered in grease stains, and spare pepperonis. Subaru began to feel a little self-conscious at that remark, and before he could reply, Priscilla carefully pushed past him.
"What do you think your doing?" Subaru turned, looking as she surveyed the apartment.
"Absolutely filthy. First your clothes are a mess, and you have trash everywhere? How dare you have such a messy apartment when I arrive!" She said, as she looked at Subaru, her eyes full of fire.
"Look. You, you can't be here. What if Emilia arrives?" Subaru said, "I need you to leave." He gestured to the open door.
"No." Priscilla said, her voice full of defiance. "If Emilia was going to come, she would have arrived weeks ago, wouldn't she? Now, go take a shower, while I- "She turned to the scattered pizza boxes, disgust on her face "-deal with this."
Before Subaru could even argue, he was being pushed out of his small living room. He didn't even know how Priscilla was so strong. As much as he wanted to fight back, he did need to take a shower, and once that was done, he could get Priscilla to leave. That way he was looking his best for Emilia when she arrives and that Priscilla was out of his apartment. He grabbed a white cotton shirt, a change in underwear, a fresh pair of socks, and a pair of black sweatpants from his room before he headed off to his shower. He could hear rustling in his living room, but he didn't want to interrupt Priscilla.
After his shower, he came into the living room being spotless. He was speechless. His apartment didn't look this clean even when he was cleaning it.
"How-How did you do this?" He stuttered out.
"Sit." She merely responded, pointing to the couch.
Subaru complied, a bit reluctantly. He didn't like the look in her blood-red eyes that seemed to appear from time to time.
"Now. You made me come all this way to have to deal with your problems. Me! You need to let her go. It's time for you to move on. Your little manservant, Olly, has been going on and on about how he's worried for you."
"Look, I just need you to leave. While I appreciate you coming here, and cleaning. I just want to be left alone."
Priscilla's eyes narrowed. "You didn't correct me."
"What?" Subaru asked confused.
"I messed up Otto's name, and you didn't correct me. That boy you call your best friend. Who you've always stuck beside since High School, you didn't correct me when I messed up his name." She said, looking at him closely. "Are you really that heartbroken over some girl who made up an excuse to let you down easy?"
"She didn't make up an excuse. She legitimately doesn't know her own feelings! She'll come back and tell me her real answer when she's ready!" Subaru countered.
"Oh, really? Then why hasn't she talked at all to you in the past few weeks. Why has she avoided you? If she wasn't letting you down, then you would still be friends, right?" Priscilla said smugly.
Subaru didn't respond. Only staring at his hands. Priscilla became more and more concerned, as Subaru seemed to become out of it. So, she did something to take his mind off of it. She got on the couch with him, and snuggled up against him. If she couldn't console him on how to deal with that dumb girl rejecting him, then she would help him forget it by focusing on something else.
Subaru brought his face up as he felt something warm press up against him. Looking over, he saw Priscilla snuggling against him, pressing into his arm. She stared up at his face. This brought him back to that night all those weeks ago.
"If you don't want this, then dodge." Subaru said confidently, looking at Emilia. It was raining, and they were the only ones around this area of the city. Subaru leaned in for the kiss, and Emilia leaned in too. Their lips made contact, and after a few seconds, it was over.
"Su-Subaru. I-I- "Emilia stuttered, her face bright red, her silver hair wet and pressed against her face.
"Yes, Emilia-Tan?" Subaru asked, feeling happiness welling up inside him, only for it to be crushed by the next few words.
"We can't do this. I-I don't know if I want this. I don't know my own emotions right now. I'm sorry. I just need time to think." And with that, she pushed him away, and left him standing alone in the rain.
"Are you going to do it or are you going to make me?" Priscilla asked, staring into his eyes, seemingly impatient.
"Pris, I, I don't know if we should." Subaru stammered out, not ready for a kiss so soon after his last heartbreak.
Priscilla laughed. "Pris, I like that. I guess I'll let someone like you call me that. But just grab the remote and turn the TV on. It's not that hard."
"Ri-Right." Subaru said, grabbing the remote and turning the TV on. "Uh, what should we watch?"
"Do you have Netflix?" She asked, staring at the screen.
"Yeah, I should." He responded, before accessing the program and beginning to flip through the various shows and movies. While this happened, he felt his phone buzzing, as he reached down and grabbed it, he saw it was from the contact EMT. Emilia was finally reaching back out to him. He went to go answer the phone, only to be interrupted by Pris.
"You really aren't going to make me watch this, are you Subaru?" Pris asked, staring at what he seemingly chosen. Riverdale. As she turned to get confirmation, she saw him going to answer the phone.
So, she pounced. She pushed him down on the couch, and kissed him, glancing a look at who the caller was. It was Emilia. Subaru seemed to stiffen under her, then he relaxed a bit, before they finally pulled away a bit, only after she made sure the call was missed.
"You were thinking about her again, weren't you?" Pris asked, staring into Subaru's eyes from on top of him.
"Who?" He asked, slightly confused.
"Good." Pris said with a smile on her lips. She got up off of him, and they resumed their normal positions, except this time Pris snuggled even closed, to make sure to be ready again. "We also aren't watching this show you picked."
Subaru looked at what he had paused on, "Oh, yeah, no. We're not watching Riverdale, sorry. I have something else in mind."
"Oh? What might that be?" Pris asked, looking at him again.
"It's a surprise." Subaru said, a smirk upon his lips.
After a bit of scrolling, he found what he was looking for, Castlevania. Pris seemed confused by this.
"What is this show?" She said, staring at the screen.
"You'll see." Subaru said, still smirking, as hit play on the first episode.
And so, they watched all of the first season. Then all of the second season. Then finally all of the third. With each episode, it seemed they were snuggling closer and closer together. When the show was finally over, it was late at night, and both Subaru and Pris had fallen asleep in each other's company.
In the morning, they realized what had happened.
"I'm-I'm so sorry." Subaru stuttered out as he began to untangle himself from a drowsy Pris's grasp.
"For what?" She said, with a slight smirk on her face, seemingly clutching him tighter.
After finally escaping the Orange-haired girl's grasp, Subaru straightened himself out.
"Look, you need to be going soon. Thanks so much for last night. But I now have a lot of shit I need to fix." Subaru tried to explain as Pris got off the couch.
"Maybe after a shower, and some breakfast." She said, smirking a bit as Subaru began to blush.
"I-I don't think that's a good idea." He stammered out. But it was already too late, as she made her way to his bathroom.
"Make sure to cook something good. Oh, and I also like my coffee on the darker side!" She called out before closing the bathroom door.
Subaru was a bit worried by all of this, but had nothing to do but go along with what was happening. So, he began to look around his kitchen for the bare minimum requirements to make breakfast. He managed to find a few eggs, some bacon that was still good, and even half a loaf of bread. As he began to brew a pot of coffee and he let the bacon cook, he heard another knock on the front door.
"Be there in a minute!" He called out, as he finished the final touches for breakfast.
Once that was done, he made his way to the front door, and opening it led to another surprise within the last 24 hours. For a silver-haired girl was standing in front of him.
"Emilia?" Subaru said, confused as to why she was here.
"Subaru, you didn't answer you phone last night and I heard from Ram and Rem who heard from Otto what has been going on with you. So, I got worried. I'm sorry, I didn't know it would effect you that much, maybe we can figure this out together?" Emilia said, staring at a confused Subaru.
Before Subaru could respond, he heard a door open behind him, and he saw Emilia gasp.
"Pri-Priscilla? Wha-What are you doing here?" Emilia stammered out. Her face beginning to blush.
With that Subaru turned his head, to see Pris wrapped in nothing but a towel, her hair still wet. A smirk was on her face as she looked at Emilia. She began to walk closer, and eventually grab Subaru's arm and press into his side.
"Who do you think comforted him when his poor heart was broken?" She said, a smile on her face.
Emilia's face darkened, "I, I see. Well I'm sorry for disturbing you two, have a wonderful afternoon. Goodbye Subaru." And she turned and began to walk away.
"Emilia wait!" Subaru called out, but it was too late, and she was already gone. He felt Pris let go of his arm, and head back towards the bathroom.
"If you don't mind me, I'm going to go put some clothes on now." She said, her voice full of joy.
Afterword, they ate breakfast in silence, until finally Subaru spoke up. "Why, why did you do it?"
"Because I thought it would amuse me." She answered, a smile on her lips.
"Get out of my apartment." Subaru said, not looking up from his plate.
"What?" Pris said confused.
"Out, now." He repeated, pointing to the door.
She huffed and got up, before looking back at him again, "She's only going to lead you down the road of heart break again."
"I said, get out." Subaru said, never breaking his calm demeanor. And with that, Pris left his apartment.
