Like Us In Many Ways

Rachel and Roller Brawl sat on a rock wall together, smiling as they watched their older children playing together while they held Violet and Luna, who were both sleeping in their arms. "They're growing up so fast," the skater said.

"They are," the Tech/Fire Portal Master said softly before they saw Blaze come up to the kids and the kids ran up to him, trying to catch him, but he playfully moved back, making it a merry game of chase.

Roller Brawl smiled. "I wonder what they'll be like when they grow up," she said.

Rachel recalled when she went to the future a second time and met an all-grown-up Flare. "Roller, let's take a walk," she said.

"Sounds good," the skater said. "The kids will be alright with Blaze."

As the two began walking, the blonde-haired woman smiled. "Sorry, I just didn't want the kids to hear us," she said. "But...I met Flare in the future."

Roller looked at her in shock before it dawned on her. "When you went to go see your future self after you gained your Fire element?"

Rachel nodded. "She was just like you and Blaze, but much more cautious than she is now," she said. "She mentioned that Kaos is still trying to kidnap you or the girls and the last time he did, both Flare and Night Shift bit Kaos hard."

The skater chuckled. "I can imagine," she said. "Dad likes to give enemies something to remember him by."

Both women laughed, surprisingly not waking the babies in their arms, which surprised the Tech/Fire Portal Master. "Wow, they're sound sleepers," she said.

"That they are," Roller said before looking at her. "What were my other girls like?"

"Well, I only met Flare and Viola, but both were teenagers and they are both protective of their younger siblings," Rachel said. "In fact, while I was visiting with them before going to talk to my counterpart, some boys came up and were laying on the syrup so thick that I felt like gagging."

The skater stood up straighter at that. "No good boys hitting on my babies?" She asked, her voice in a growl.

"Yup," the other woman said. "But they got their butts handed to them. Roller nearly broke one of the boy's noses for laying a hand on her arm and I thought Viola was going to bite another boy's head off for calling Astrid an 'unwanted crybaby'."

Roller looked at her. "They fought them off on their own?" She asked.

"They did," Rachel said. "Surprised me at first, but I was also proud of them for standing up for themselves and their siblings."

"Those are my girls!" The skater said, grinning broadly. "They really are so much like me and Blaze."

"Oh, there's no doubt about that, hon," the Tech/Fire Portal Master said with a chuckle. "They are your kids."

Roller Brawl smiled again before sighing. "I...I know it's a little ways, but...I do hope one day the girls find boys that will treat them like how my flaming fire treats me," she admitted.

"They will," Rachel said. "Who knows? Maybe they'll start out as friends like me and Magna Charge and their feelings will slowly bloom or maybe they'll be cautious as you were when you first met Blaze before he proved that you could trust him."

The skater nodded before looking a bit sheepish. "I didn't make it easy for Blaze," she admitted. "Then again, guess you could say I was once burned, twice shy, as the saying goes."

The blonde-haired woman placed a hand on her friend's shoulder. "Or more like you decided that you weren't going to be treated badly ever again and you would scare off any boy that dared to come up to you."

Roller Brawl smiled in appreciation. "Yeah," she said. "But Blaze wasn't deterred surprisingly. He actually commented on my fighting ability."

Rachel nodded, remembering how Blaze had been slow to trust her when they first met, but with time, she had earned his trust too. She then looked at the children and smiled. "Remember when you and I found Astrid?" She asked.

The skater nodded. "Yeah?"

"Remember how she was unsure of us and Blaze until you two proved to her that you wouldn't hurt her and that you weren't going to throw her into the streets like her birth father did?"

She nodded again. "She looked so scared," she said. "But now, she's a strong little girl."

"Because you guys helped her to transform into that," Rachel said. "Blaze did that for you too and you helped me to become what he is today." She smiled. "Your kids see that and that makes them want to be just like their mommy and daddy."

Roller Brawl chuckled. "You're right," she said.

Just then, Violet and Luna woke up, to which the two women smiled at them. Rachel smiled at Violet, who looked up at her. "Hey, Violet," she cooed to her.

The baby smiled up at her aunt while Luna reached for her mother, who smiled. "Looks like it's lunchtime," she said. "Want to feed Violet for me?"

"Sure," the blonde-haired woman said as they walked back to where Blaze and the other children were. Manga Charge arrived them with a picnic basket and a lovely picnic was soon laid out and everyone was enjoying the good food while the two women fed the twins. Blaze smiled at them.

"Where did you two go to?" He asked.

"Oh, we were just talking about the future a bit," Roller said casually.

Blaze looked at Rachel, who smiled. "Don't worry, it was just something about the girls being all grown up and protecting their family like you and Roller do," she said.

He nodded with a smile. He was the only person Rachel had spoken to about the future since she had learned he had spoken to Eon and suggested Rachel take the guardian's place when the time came. She revealed to him what she had seen the first time and the second time. He had been a bit surprised, but promised to help her make sure the future would be safe either way and he'd always be there for her as a friend once she took her place as the guardian.

Rachel smiled back as she knew what he was thinking and she felt better about not being alone about knowing what the future she had seen had held, though she knew it wasn't set in stone. After all, the first time she had gone to the future, Blaze and Roller had only one daughter and she and Magna had only had a son. Now, the skater and Hellfire Portal Master had six girls and the Tech/Fire Portal Master and Ultron had two children.

"It may not be set in stone, but some things haven't changed," she said softly.

Roller looked at her. "Hmm?" She asked.

Rachel blinked. "Oh, sorry, just thinking aloud," she said.

Just then, Speedlight activated his telekinesis and a sharp cry echoed out, to which they turned to see Kaos was caught in the boy's power and Autumn stood up, firing her magic arrows at Kaos the moment her brother let him go. "Go away, you meanie!" The little girl said.

"Leave our family alone!" Speedlight said firmly, using his powers again along with his sister.

Glumshanks suddenly came running out. "Master! You're still sick!" He said, going up to him.

"I can still fight, fool!" The evil Portal Master said, but he looked very tired. "Two children aren't going to stop me!"

Just then, Autumn hit him with her arrows and an explosion knocked Kaos off his feet while Speedlight picked him up with his telekinesis and held him up before both siblings made the evil Portal Master fly though the sky and land with a thud back at his castle. Glumshanks looked impressed before looking a bit sheepish. "Uh, sorry about that," he said. "I'll...make sure he doesn't bother you guys again today."

"Thank you, Glumshanks," Roller Brawl said with a nod.

The troll left and the other adults noticed Rachel looked rather stunned before she smiled. "That's my kids," she said proudly.

"They are like us in so many ways," Blaze said.

"You can say that again," Roller Brawl said with a giggle as they continued to enjoy the picnic with no more rude interruptions.
