It was a cloudy day with some sunshine on Monday in 1991 when 11-year-old Jennifer Jareau woke up at 9:00 am. She got out of bed to go brush her teeth when she noticed something on the door. When she got closer to it, she realized that it was Roz's favorite necklace with a note. The note said,
"My dearest sister, I'm so sorry to do this to you, but I felt like had no choice. Please tell mom and dad to not look for me. I have ran away and I can't come back. I want you to have my necklace to protect yourself from The Tall Man. I know you think its just a scary mad-up story, but just know that the story may be fake howevermonsters are very very real. This necklace will protect you from those monsters that are out there. Just know that I will always love you with all my heart and I will never forget how much fun and pride I had being your older, wiser, and funnier sister. I really hope you and I can see each other again, but I can't see into the future so you and I will just have to pray and hope for the future to bring us back together again. I'll never forget you. Please take care of mom and dad. P.S. You better not lose my necklace and please keep it safe. Remember it will protect you from the monsters in the world. I love you, sis. Take care." Roz
After re-reading the letter again and again and again, JJ composed herself enough and walked out of her room to see if this was all a prank that Roz was playing. Walking to Roselyn's room she notices that door was closed, so she opened. What she saw was draws opened with clothes missing, photos that had filled her walls were now empty, and her closet was close to empty, except for a few dresses. After checking her room, JJ decides to inform her parents on the situation. Once JJ is in the kitchen she sees her dad reading the newspaper and her mom making breakfast. "Oh good your up, Jennifer. Is Roslyn up yet, breakfast is almost ready?" said JJ's mother, Sandy Jareau. "Momma." JJ says with a saddened voice with a hint of shock and a somber expression. Sandy sensing something was wrong, looks up at her daughter with concern. 11 year-old JJ takes a deep breath before blurting out the cause of sadness. "Roselyn left." Both parents look up with shock and disbelief. That's when her dad, Jackson Jareau speaks. "What do you mean Roselyn left?" "She left dad. I woke up this morning to a note on my door with her necklace. It said she had to leave and that she can't come back and that you shouldn't look for her. It talked about the Halloween story that talks about the Tall Man and that the story isn't true, but that there are monsters and that the necklace will protect me. I thought it was a prank, but when I went into her room everything was gone." After JJ was finished talking, Mr. Jareau ran up the stairs to Roz's room only to find it empty. Running back down stairs and into the kitchen, Jackson says, "She's really gone." Sandy is shocked that Roselyn would just up and leave like this, especially since she's only 17. After that day nothing was ever the same again.
True as it is, the Jareau family did eventually move on, there was still that empty feeling of something missing. JJ went onto honor her sisters memory by playing soccer just like she did and got an athletic scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh. Jennifer also attended Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. This was where she was inspired by guest lecture, David Rossi who inspired her to join the FBI in her senior year. Sandy and Jackson fell out of love and decided to get a divorce. They are still friends and are now seeing other people. JJ graduated from the FBI with a straight ride into the FBI's most elite unit, the Behavioral Analysis Unit or for short the BAU. She become the go to between the public and the team. Jennifer is in charge of giving statements to the media and doing press conferences.
April 15, 2011
Walking into the BAU, JJ saw Derek sitting at his desk like always as he drinks he cup of coffee. Spence was reading one of his many books that he stashed at his desk. Aaron and David were in their respective offices, likely doing paperwork or making phone calls. Emily however was nowhere to be found. Usually she's at her desk filling out files or talking to Derek. Penelope was most likely in her 'batcave' as she likes to refer her office as. "Hey Morgan." Derek looks up to see that JJ has arrived. "Hey." Reid simply looks up from his book and gives a slight nod, indicating a 'hi'. Suddenly I hear Garcia walking into the BAU, stating that we have a case. Once everyone is sitting at the round table, as Spencer's mom likes to refer it as just like the Knights of the Round Table from King Arthur. Penelope walks up to the front and clicks her handy dandy remote, bringing up the first victim.
"Alright my lovely's this one's a doozy. Four teens have been found within the last 2 weeks beaten and unconscious on the Cowley Athletic Field in East Allegeny, Pennsylvania. Each victim was sent to the hospital with cuts and bruises on their faces and hands from fighting the unsub." Garcia pulls up the four womens pictures. Looking at the plasma, JJ sees a striking resemblance to her sister, Roselyn. JJ is pulled out of her thoughts when she hears Rossi ask about the victims which Pen starts explaining each victim. "First victim is 16 year-old Maya Westin. She is a senior at East Allegheny High where she plays on the senior varsity soccer team. Westin was found at beaten and unconscious at 5:30 am on March 22 by the some baseball players who were getting a morning workout in before practice and school. Her younger brother told their parents after she was found that Maya snuck out to meet some guy she had been talking to online. Victim number two is 17 year-old Michelle Lyn. Lyn is also on the East Allegeny soccer team and a junior. Lyn was found under the bleachers at 7 am on March 29 by some rebellious teens choosing to go drink and smoke instead of going to school. Luckily they were sober enough to call 911, but chose to flee before EMS and police arrived. The police were later able to track down one of the teens who dropped a beer bottle and matched their fingerprints. Michelle's parents told the police that Michelle talked about a guy over in the next town who she has been talking to also online. Victim number three is Olivia Marshall, 16 years old, a tranfser student from New Hampshire. She's going into her sophomore year at the high school and had tried out for the soccer team. Annocuements for the final squad were posted yesterday after she went missing and showed that she made the team. Olivia was found by some parents who were there to drop their kids off of practice at 8:30 am on April 5 leaning against one of the fences by the baseball field. Marshall's aunt and uncle who she was staying with while her parents were out of town also told police that she told them she met a guy from another school who talked on and off line. The last victim is Jennifer Wilson 17 years old, a senior. She's the team captain of the varsity soccer team and had just broken the school record for most goals in a season in their most recent game. Wilson was found under the soccer goal by a teacher who was getting her students ready to go back to class at 2:30 pm on April 12. This is where it gets weird, the attacks suddenly stop. After Garcia finishes the general info victims, Morgan adds M.O. on the victims and the unsub. "Well all of them are very athletic and are on the soccer team. He also has a type; dirty blonde hair, very athletic and ranging from ages 16 to 17." Spencer replies, "So the unsub would have to be strong to be able to over power theses girls considering they could outrun the unsub if he wasn't has physically fit. Along with very charming and handsome since the ages 16-17 are prime ages for young girls to be very flirtatious and rebel from their parents." "That would mean the unsub is most likely male in his late 20s to early 30s." Rossi comments. Prentiss joins in with, "Why did the unsub suddenly just stop his attacks?" Hotch replies, "He could have been arrested or died." Before anyone can say anything else Penelope says, "Sir, I don't think he was arrested or died and if not, he's probably older." Hotch looks to Garcia with a perplexed look and questions, "What do you mean?" "Well it's sorta complicated. When the local police found the last victim, the unsub left a piece of newspaper on the victims chest that has a personal connection to the team. That's why the locals thought that we would want to take on the case." "What's the connection?" Hotch asks. Penelope hesitates for a second and glances in the direction of JJ who seems to be preoccupied at looking at the victims photos in the case file. "Do we know what is on the paper?" Rossi inquiries. Garcia replies with, "It was a newspaper clipping," Garcia pulls up the picture of the paper on the plasma, "from 1991 of a 17 year old female teen that had run away." The mention of 1991, causes JJ to look at the screen to see that it's the same newspaper that was relased when the town found out about Roz. "Oh my god." "What is it JJ?" Emily asks. JJ doesn't respond and just stares at the screen. Reid not knowing what was going on, asks, "Who was the girl?" After not getting a response from Penelope who was concerned for JJ, Rossi answered the question. "Roselyn Jareau." The room falls silent after the name was said. Seconds that felt like a lifetime went by, Aaron finally spoke. "Roselyn Jareau?" Garcia responds with, "Yes sir. The clipping was dated on Monday of 1991 in the East Allegeny paper." Morgan asks, "Was there anything attached to the clipping, Pen?" Garcia hesitates for a few seconds glancing at JJ and the rest of the team. "Just spit it out, Garcia." The team is shcoked by the way JJ spoke, but quickly compose themselves as does Garcia who replies with JJ's answer. "On the back of the clipping was written in black sharpie; 'See You Soon Jenny'." Time seemed to stop when JJ heard what the paper said.
