Hello everyone! I recently got into The Mandalorian thanks to some persuasion from friends and I'm hooked. The entire time I was watching it I kept creating this character for it and ended up with this story.
Thanks to some friends for helping me brainstorm, beta reading, and helping with the title and summary.
This will start right before season 2. I hope you all enjoy!
Out the window, Mando could see Nevarro City getting closer and closer as the Razor Crest descended to the volcanic planet. In the past two weeks since the attack from Moff Gideon the planet looked, for the most part, the same. Up close Mando was sure it was a different story.
Below the ship, the tiny figures of the planet's residents were moving about; jumping in and out of buildings and running around. Still fixing up the mess from the battle.
Babbling came from the passenger seat, making the Mandalorian glance over his shoulder to see the little green creature smiling at him and bouncing in his seat. The Child kept glancing at the window then back to his father.
A very soft chuckle came from Mando. "Are you ready to see Cara and Greef again?" Another babble. "Alright, kid. But don't forget, we're also getting supplies. No running off."
Muscle memory took over as Mando turned back to the controls and lowered the Crest. A gentle landing and the clan of two were already walking down the boarding ramp; greeted by a familiar figure who stood a few feet away.
Cara Dune smiled at the two as she met them halfway, "Good to see you again. What did you do this time?"
"Nothing yet," Mando replied, an air of amusement in his voice. "We're just here for supplies before we head out to the next planet."
"Fair enough." Cara sent a small smirk to the Mandalorian before turning her attention to the little one on the ground. "I see this little guy is still in one piece." She knelt down, holding out a hand to him. "Hey, little guy," she greeted, giving the creature a warm smile.
Grogu smiled back, grabbing one of Cara's fingers in his tiny hand.
Cara's smile grew as she looked back to the hunter. "Perfect timing. Greef was going to contact you. Has something for you. Come on, I'll take you to him. I won't be staying for the meeting though, I've got some stuff to take care of around the town."
Mando didn't say anything, picking up the Child and placing him into the bag on his hip before following the ex-soldier's path into town. He glanced up at the archway that created the entrance to the city. It was still standing after the fight, so were most of the buildings. The fight wasn't as destructive as it could have been, but Mando could see parts of stone that were smoldering and charred from where blasters had hit. Chunks of the stone were scattered about on the ground that hadn't been picked up yet. People were milling about smiling as they sold their wares or helped fix up any spots that were in more need of mending than others. "How're repairs coming along?"
"They're good," Cara answered, nodding her head at a passerby. "Most of the damages have been taken care of, just the small details here and there that need to be fixed, but those can wait. For the most part life here has picked back up since the Imps left. Greef and I have some big ideas that we hope to implement in the coming weeks."
"Sounds good."
"Greef is pretty excited. He has plans for the cantina."
"Really? He always seemed to love that place," Mando said, glancing to the side and watching two woman haggle over wares at a market stall.
"It's surprising, isn't it?" Cara laughed, waving to a passing Rodian, who was carrying a bag of some sort of supplies over to a building some others were working on. "He should be there. They're still serving drinks and food there for the time being."
They stopped in front of the cantina. Out of every building in the city, this was the worst. As it was expected to be. Mando could still remember the frustration and desperation during the fight against Gideon and his troopers. Peering at the doorway, Mando could see the biggest scorch marks from the incinerator trooper's flamethrower. He could remember the blazing heat from the weapon and he could remember watching the kid protecting everyone from the trooper.
"Bwah."
"Yeah, I know. Not great memories, huh, kid?" Mando asked, pulling the kid out of the bag on his hip. He looked down at his son, who stared back up at him with his big brown eyes. The Child reached up and placed a hand on Mando's helmet and gave a big smile.
"Bwah!"
Cara laughed. "Come on, I'm sure Greef will love to see you two." She stopped as she placed a foot in the doorway. "He does have someone with him."
Mando tilted his head. "What do you mean?"
"Some guy came here on that rickety ship over there," the ex-shock trooper said, jabbing a finger towards this small ship that sat on the other side of the city.
Looking at it closer showed the poor repair jobs done on it. It was a more recent model from a few years ago, but the way it was taken care of made the Razor Crest look like a brand new ship! There were dents scattered over the surface, signs of either a new, inexperienced flyer or one who wasn't that good at flying. There were patches of metal that were darker than the rest of the ship, showing poorly done repair jobs or last minute repairs. It made the Mandalorian question who this mystery man was and how that ship was even flying.
"Interesting ship…"
"Yeah I thought the same when he first landed." Cara nudged her head in the direction of the door. "You should see the guy himself. Never seen anyone like him before."
Stepping into the cantina brought back brief memories of the multiple times Mando had stepped in looking for work with the guild. Now it wasn't as lively as it used to be. The bartender was behind the nearly falling apart bar. The counter was missing chunks of its surface and had scorch marks like the rest of the city did. There were some patrons scattered about at various tables that were still standing, each having their own drinks or quick meals before getting back to work remodeling the city. All around were remnants of the battle and somehow still some furniture that hadn't been burnt up from the flamethrower. Most of the unusable furniture was pushed off to the side against a wall, ready to be thrown away. Chairs with missing legs and tables with broken or dented surfaces.
Glancing around he found Greef sat at his usual spot. As always, the guild leader turned magistrate was lively and had a smile on his face. The man next to him didn't look all too friendly or wanted to have a friendly chat.
Mando gave a look towards Cara, who only shrugged her shoulders and placed a hand on his shoulder.
"I'm not sure either. Good luck."
Cara left the cantina leaving Mando to stare at the man sitting next to Greef as he approached the table. He was a scruffy looking man. Shaggy, dark green hair sat atop his head and green stubble ran across his jaw. On top of his head were rather thin looking antlers. On closer inspection they looked like branches. Maybe twigs.
The man was fidgety, eyes constantly shifting around the room. Most likely it was his first time asking for a bounty hunter's help. Most first timers were like that. Nothing new for Mando.
"Well how about that!" Greef practically shouted, a wide smile on his face as he looked over at Mando. "We were just talking about you, Mando." He looked over at the man, the smile still there. "He has such perfect timing." His smile got bigger when he heard the gurgling from the Child. "And there's my other favorite being! How's he been since the last time I saw him?"
"Still trouble," Mando commented, pulling the child out of the bag and placing him in the seat beside him. The Child smiled up at Mando before turning to look at Greef and the man.
Greef chuckled. "After everything we went through I can't imagine him anything, but trouble." Leaning back in his chair he shouted across the cantina, "Merv, get this kid a bowl of broth. Maker only knows what this guy is feeding him." He grinned at Mando. "How about a drink, friend."
"No." The bounty hunter studied the man, who hadn't said a word to him, for a second. "Who's he?" He turned his head from the man to Greef, taking the seat across from the two.
"This, my friend, is your next job." Greef gave the hunter a smile, gesturing to the man. "Meet Baryu Parlun. He's from Sol'u."
"That's Mid Rim," Mando commented, turning to the man, Baryu, who matched his gaze. Something was off about this man. Whether nervous about a first job or something entirely different, the Mandalorian couldn't place it. He turned back to Greef. "What's he doing all the way out here?"
"I figured I'd let him tell you that part," Greef answered, grabbing his drink from the table and taking a sip. He looked pointedly at Mando over the rim of his cup. "It's a bit of an interesting tale."
"Okay," he turned to Baryu, "why are you here then? That's not an easy journey."
"I know," Baryu said. His tone came out short and angry almost, matching well with his gruff voice. "But I've heard you're the best bounty hunter out here. I need your help." Mando noticed Baryu's fidgeting didn't stop as he started talking to him. His tone also added to the bounty hunter's notion that there was something off about this newcomer. He didn't like it. "My niece...she's gotten herself into trouble. You see our planet, Sol'u, is home to my people and to the Drol. They're this ruthless group and their leader is worse. He's notorious around my town. We're on opposite sides of the planet, but they still manage to cause trouble for us." He shifted in his seat, eyes shifting to the side before fixing back to the bounty hunter. "We do our best to not cross paths with them, but every so often someone makes a deal with them or another that causes trouble for them and sometimes trouble for the town. Currently my niece is the one who's caused trouble."
Mando leaned back in his seat, crossing his arms. He studied the man for a moment before speaking. "And what trouble would that be?"
Baryu took a breath and leaned forward. "She stole from their leader, Ruco Synan. She took money from them." His voice began to rise a little, getting firmer as if to get his point across. "I don't know how, but she did. And now because of the stunt she's pulled I'm being looped into it. Ruco is ruthless and won't stop until he gets what he wants. He's killed some of our people before and others either have been tortured or left as messengers to let us all know not to cross him. There are rumors that he has a kiss of death, so to speak. To poison or paralyze his victims. The survivors have seen what he can do. So they say. I don't know if it's true or if they were told to make it up to scare my people further, but if it's true I don't want to get involved. If my niece isn't brought to him soon who knows what Ruco and his men will do."
"So you want me to bring her to him?"
"Yes."
"You do realize traveling to the Mid Rim is a tough journey," Mando informed. He tilted his head, examining Baryu. "How did you get here by yourself?"
"I'm a trader and cargo runner," Baryu answered rather quickly. He brought his hands onto the table, clasping them together. In the dim lighting of the cantina, Mando could see markings that looked like vines on his hands and running up under his sleeves. "I'm used to traveling from the Mid Rim to the Outer Rim. It's my line of work. It's not always the easiest, but it gets money."
"Isn't that the truth," Greed laughed, placing a hand on Baryu's shoulder.
Mando watched Baryu go rigid at the touch before Baryu glanced at Greef for a moment, eyes going hard.
"You want me to travel to Sol'u to capture your niece and take her to the other side of the planet." It wasn't a question, just confirming what he's heard. It was a far fetched request. Travel from the Outer Rim to the Mid Rim all for something this man can do himself. "Why can't you?"
"She'll see it coming if it's me who brings her in. She'll catch on and try and run." Baryu grabbed at the drink that had been sitting in front of him for the first time, taking a large gulp. "You're the only one who can. Greef said you'd be perfect for the job. I've already made arrangements with Ruco. You bring her to him and he'll pay you. Five thousand credits. That should be enough to get you to and from the Mid Rim should you need to refuel and any repairs you might need."
Mando stares at the Sol'uan. He was right, five thousand credits would be enough for him to refuel The Crest and gather supplies. He needed to refuel in a couple days anyway. But was it worth the trip? Traveling to the Mid Rim from the Outer Rim could be dangerous depending on the route one takes. Not to mention Mando could tell Baryu was hiding something. Whether it was a detail about the job or something else entirely, he wasn't sure.
A chuckle from Greef made the other two men glance at him.
"I say take it, Mando," Greef exclaimed. "Gives you a reason to see the Mid Rim for once. I'll give you and the kid some supplies for the trip. How about it?"
Mando sighed, looking down at the Child next to him. The Child tilted his head as he looked up at his father, blinking before a smile came to his face. He waved his little hands up and down at his side.
"Alright," the bounty hunter said, looking up at the green haired man. "What's her name and where can I find her?"
Something flickered in Baryu's eyes, but it disappeared before Mando could decipher it.
"Her name is Casali Purlan," Baryu answered after clearing his throat. "You'll find her either at her house or the market in town. Her house is located north of the town near a river. She lives there by herself ever since her mother and my brother died a few years back. If you can't find her there then she's probably at the town market selling stuff."
"Well then it's settled!" Greef exclaimed, smiling at each man. "Baryu, why don't you go and gather up the supplies you were mentioning you needed. There's some shops open right now that you should be able to find what you're looking for. I need to catch up with Mando before he heads out. Need his opinion on some of the repairs here."
Mando watched as Baryu downed the rest of his drink before stalking out of the cantina. Once the man was gone, the bounty hunter turned back to Greef. "He's hiding something."
Greef nodded. "I couldn't help thinking that too." He grabbed his cup off the table, taking a drink. "I'd be careful while on that job if I were you." A small smile grew on his face as he raised his cup. "Are you sure you don't want a drink before you go?"
"No thanks."
"I thought so." Greef chuckled, smiling at Mando. "I'll get you to have a drink with me one of these days. Get going then, and take care of that little guy." He watched as Mando turned before speaking again. "Stay safe, Mando."
"Aren't I always?"
Mando left the cantino, leaving a chuckling Greef.
ooOOoo
"Dank farrik!"
Mando cursed a couple more times as he pulled on the controls of The Crest as the Child giggled. Of course as they neared Sol'u they entered an asteroid belt. And now here he was trying to make a successful landing on this planet he had never been before. Control lights were flashing and alarms were going off. On one of the screens Mando could see the image display of the right engine. Red highlighted the thruster on it alerting that there was damage.
During the last stretch of the belt, one of the smaller asteroids managed to loosen the thruster on that engine. Now a small amount of smoke was billowing out of the thruster as it stuttered, trying to work. Mando was doing everything in his power to make the landing smooth.
"Hang on, kid," he called over his shoulder. He gritted his teeth as a gurgle of glee came from the Child behind him. "This is going to be a bumpy ride."
Out the window trees grew closer and closer as the Crest plummeted towards the ground. The sound of branches snapping and breaking against the hull. The Mandalorian did everything in his power to land the ship safely. As they got closer and closer to the ground, Mando rapidly pressed a few buttons and with a jerk the Razor Crest landed roughly on the surface of the planet.
A sigh sounded through the modulator of The Mandalorian's helmet. He turned in his seat and glanced at The Child, "Kind of a perfect landing."
"Patu." The Child tilted his head as he stared back at Mando.
Standing up, Mando made his way down to the hull of the ship. Preparing for this hunt wouldn't be tricky, he's used to preparing for hunts, but it was hunts where the bounty wasn't aware they were being hunted or even how the bounty would act made picking out the weapons needed harder.
There was also the fact that he didn't know what this Casali Purlan looked like. No bounty puck to provide a holo image of the woman. Baryu didn't even provide a description of his niece. From the interaction Mando had with him, the man seemed almost desperate to get this job taken care of.
Pocketing some cuffs and extra energy cells for his blaster, Mando opened his entry ramp and made his way out. The ramp slowly opened up, letting in a large amount of light into the hull. A vast difference from the blackness that they had flown through for the past couple hours.
The minute his boots touched the grassy ground, he took a moment to examine his surroundings. Sol'u was a planet he had never heard of and despite what Baryu had told him, he didn't know what to expect. All around him was bright green and lush foliage. Trees that had leaves fanning out tower above creating speckles of sunlight on the ground. Flowers of different colors, shapes, and sizes were scattered about on the ground or in bushes. Some birds could be heard chirping in the trees as well. The area the Crest has landed in was peaceful. Whether that was just this portion of the planet was yet to be discovered.
Mando glanced behind him when he heard soft footsteps padding down the ramp. The Child waddled it's way down the ramp and stared up at his father once he reached the hunter's feet.
"Let's hope this planet has a good mechanic." Mando sighed, shaking his head. Bending down, he grabbed the Child in his arms and gently, he placed the green creature in the satchel. "Let's get going so we can get this done and over with."
The snapping of a twig brought the two's attention to behind them. In a matter of a second, Mando had his blaster drawn and was aiming at the source of the noise.
A small group of people jumped back as the blaster was pointed towards them. All four habitants stared in fright, eyes glancing from the weapon to the Mandalorian. Each of them had a varying shade of blue for their hair. Some of them had gills on their necks, others, like the little girl hiding behind the older man at the head of the group, had gills that rested on her ribs, shown below the red cropped top she was wearing. Unlike Baryu and his green vines wrapping up his hands and arms, these people had blue iridescent swirls of scales traveling up their bodies from what he could see of the skin that was showing on them.
"Whoa whoa," the old man said, raising his hands up. He offered a small, friendly smile. "It's okay, we're here to help."
"Speak for yourself, Dormo" scoffed an old lady to his right. Her short, light blue curls bounced as she shook her head sharply.
"Somal, hush," the old man, Dormo, said, glaring at the woman. He rolled his eyes and turned back to Mando. "We saw your ship coming through and we were close by." He raised his hand towards the smoking thruster. "The smoke was a big help finding where you crashed."
"Was it that obvious?" Mando dryly spoke, lowering his blaster. He glanced over at the glaring woman and back to the man. "You got a mechanic on this planet?"
"Yes sir, we sure do!" the old man said, his smile growing a bit now that the blaster was out of his face and the Mandalorian seemed less likely of a threat. "Parma and Aluko are our best mechanics."
A scoff came from the old woman once again. "Those two? I wouldn't trust those two to water my plants. Those plant tribe bastards shouldn't be trusted. They shouldn't have been trusted all those years ago and they shouldn't be trusted now."
"Somal, quiet," the younger man finally spoke up, glaring at the woman. His eyes flickered to the Mandalorian warily.
"Is she good?" Mando questioned, lightly gesturing to the still glaring woman.
Dormo waved his hand. "Ignore her. She's just mad that her cakes are too dry to sell at the market today." He chuckled when he heard another scoff. "Follow us and we'll take you to Parma and Aluko."
Mando hesitated, glancing down at the Child, who tilted his head as he matched the glance. The Mandalorian shook his head and sighed before finally following the group.
"So what brings you here, uh sir?"
The bounty hunter remained silent for a moment, sizing up the man once more. He had just met them and despite that, they were already offering him help with his ship. He could only hope they could do the same for him with finding this Casali woman. But based on the old woman's response to this plant tribe, which Mando could only assume Baryu was part of with all his plant-like features and that must mean Casali's part of it too, Maker only knew if they'd help him. The older man was at least friendlier…
"I'm looking for someone. A woman named Casali Purlan."
The little girl gasped. "Are you her knight?"
Mando looked down at her. "What?"
"You have shining armor, are you a knight?" She gasped again. "Or a prince?"
"No."
"Bamari, hush," the younger man said, gently pulling the girl away from Mando. "I'm sorry, sir. You know little girls, they love fairy tales and she's never met someone outside of the planet before."
"So you know her?" Mando asked, shifting his gaze to the man, who he at this point assumed was the girl's father.
"We do, yes."
"That girl shouldn't be trusted," snapped Somali. "Her and the rest of those half breeds shouldn't be trusted."
"Somal, why don't we go get your table set up at the market," the young man suggested, placing a hand on the woman's shoulder and leading her away from the group. "I'm sorry again, sir. It was nice meeting you. I hope you get your ship fixed."
The old man shook his head, watching the three leave. "Sorry about her. She loves to speak her mind about everything. Jumo is my son and Somal is his mother-in-law. In-laws, what can you do?" he chuckled and looked up at Mando again. When he didn't get a response he cleared his throat. "Casali's house is this way." He turned to the left, leading the way up a slight hill. "Ignore whatever Somal said. Casali is a wonderful young woman. Nicest girl you'll ever meet and she grows the best tasting fruit and the prettiest flowers you've ever seen. She has the best purple puno berries on the planet, you'll have to try some when you go to the market. And you could pick up a flower or two for anyone special in your life." Dormo gave the man a quick wink. "Casali's pretty popular in the market. At least with those who'd like to interact with a being who is half water half plant tribs. I swear this planet needs to get over what happened in the past."
Mando stared at the man. Everything he said was only positive. Positive things about this woman that her uncle claims is dangerous. It just added to his suspicions about Baryu.
There was a pause, nothing but the sound of the birds in the trees filling the air. "What do you need with Casali, may I ask?" the older man spoke up, glancing up at the outsider.
Mando turned his head to Dormo. He paused, tilting his head as he studied the Sol'uan. "Her uncle asked me to help with her."
Dorma froze, whipping around so fast and with a fierce look that almost made the bounty hunter flinch. "Baryu? What does that man need you for exactly?"
"That's confidential."
Brows furrowing even more, Dormo huffed, pointing a finger at Mando. "Now you listen. I don't know who you are, Mandalorian or not - and yes I know what you are - but if you so much as hurt that young woman you will be dealing with a lot of people who care for Casali." He lowered his hand, not taking his eyes away. "I wouldn't trust that bastard of an uncle if I were you. He's worse than Somal."
Mando remained silent. That entire statement proved once again that things weren't adding up with this job. And it seemed like Baryu was just as prejudiced as Somal was towards the opposite tribe of this planet. It was all getting more and more suspicious as Mando traversed this new planet. However, at this point he had accepted the job. This Casali Purlan could be worse than what the other habitants knew.
"I'll keep that in mind," Mando said, a little more off handed than reassuring the man.
Dormo eyed the Mandalorian once more before turning to gesture out. "This is Casali's home."
Standing before them was a small wooden cottage. It stood out amongst the green leaves from the trees and bushes, but what made it pop more was all the flowers growing about. Each a different color making the whole area pop. To the left was a small stream of water where a couple buckets and a water can sat. Off to the right of the stream was a small clothes line where different colored clothing were strewn about, drying in the sun. Mixed among the regular trees were new trees Mando hadn't seen before. Some were shorter, others were taller and almost reached the other trees. They all bore fruit. Some bigger than others, some smaller. All different shapes and colors as well. A ladder made of varying shades of metal leaned against one of the bigger fruit trees, with a basket hanging off the side. Wind chimes hanging from the front door tinkled in the light breeze, adding to the calm atmosphere that surrounded the area.
"It looks like you just missed her."
Mando took his attention away from the cottage and turned his helmet to look at Dormo. "How do you know that?"
"Her cart isn't here," Dormo said matter-of-factly. "She's at the market. Looks like you and your kid will get to experience the city life of Sol'u."
A gurgle came from below him and Mando found the Child standing at his feet, staring up at him. Big brown eyes looking at the beskar wearing man, a bright green fruit in his hand.
Mando sighed. This wasn't what he had wanted to do. He hoped it was going to be a simple in and out. "Alright, kid, let's go."
Of course the house that Baryu sent Mando to was empty. Either his niece was at the market or she was running. For her sake, it better be the former. Thankfully Dormo was willing to lead him to the city that was located away from the more rural part of the planet. But unlike the trip to Casali's house, this one to the city was quiet.
As the three neared the city, Mando could see tall structures rising high above the trees. Buildings of light brown stone created the city. Some with rounder rooftops than others, but all had walls and walkways connecting them. He could see people walking to and from them, each wearing just as bright clothing as Dormo and his group did and the clothing he saw drying at Casali's.
As Dormo led the way into the city, sounds of loud chatter and yelling ahead dragged the Mandalorian's attention to a market that was a few yards away. This must be the market Baryu, and now Dormo, had mentioned as the second possible location for his niece. Mando could see people with the same antlers and hair as Baryu, all varying sizes and greens, along with people with varying shades of blue like Dormo and his family. They were all milling about or running to and fro from one stall to the next. Some taking stairs up to the walls and walkways that weaved about the city.
He glanced down at the Child by his feet as the green creature babbled and stared at all the people, dark eyes shining at the thought of new things to see.
"Want to check there then?" Mando asked his son. A smile and a coo was the answer he received and with a nod in return they continued their way to the market. He turned to Dormo, nodding his head. "Thank you for your help. I appreciate it."
"You're welcome." Dormo nodded in return. "You'll find Casali down that row." He pointed to his left. "Look for the young girl with turquoise hair selling fruit and flowers. She'll probably offer something to you for your kid. Try the berries." He paused, looking hard at the Mandalorian. "But I'm warning you again. Don't you dare let anything happen to that girl. She's done a lot for a lot of people. She's a good soul."
Mando didn't say anything, just watched as the old man walked into the crowd, probably on his way to his family. He looked around, watching the hustle and bustle before bending down and grabbing the Child.
"Better keep you with me before you go off getting lost."
He pushed on, heading down the path Dormo said. The market was large which was expected with the large population he had seen since he arrived in the city. Tables lined almost every inch of the street. Sol'uans were everywhere as they milled about, all with varying shades of green or blue hair. Some green haired people with larger twig antlers than others. The blue haired people had gills either on their necks or their ribs. Some people, very few compared to the rest, had teal or turquoise hair and some of them either had antlers or gills. He noticed that each local had either the vines like Baryu, wrapping around their arms and legs; others had the iridescent scales that lined their bodies like Dormo's family. Then there were few who Mando could only guess was a mixture of the two. Swirling iridescent scales wrapping all around their bodies.
Tables and stalls lined the parts of the streets where people were selling their products. Each stall varied in color. Some were decorated to grab passerby's attention while others were left barren. The products themselves varied from different food, dishes, jewelry and clothing, and some electronic products. It gave a small look into the planet's habitants' lives.
Finally after a few more minutes, Mando could see the stall he needed. Down the street, about five stalls away from him was one stall that was covered in baskets of colorful fruits and flowers. Next to it stood a cart that contained extra products as well. Flowers draping over the wooden structure created an eye catching appearance that drew people in. And it did just that. People were crowding the stall.
Approaching the stall with purposeful strides, Mando could gradually make out the owner. It was definitely the woman that Dormo described. From where he was walking from, he could make out her tan skin and turquoise hair that was pulled into a high ponytail. She was a young woman, friendly with the other locals it seemed.
Mando watched as the woman smiled at the customers who left and who approached her stall. She was waving her fingers at a child with green hair and antlers that were barely anything, just tiny twigs, and handed him something that his little hand reached out and grabbed. The mother holding the boy laughed with the bounty as the child practically stuffed his whole hand in his mouth. The woman turned from the woman to greet an older couple, who just walked up. Without missing a beat, from under the stall the woman pulled out a bag of dark blue fruit, handing it to the couple who exchanged credits with her. Then the husband held out more credits, pointing at a large yellow flower that the woman plucked from the clay vase, handing it to him. The husband smiled, turning to his wife, who had a large smile on her face as she gently held the flower in her hand.
The interactions Mando saw continued to make him question what this woman did to steal from a gang. She seemed happy and well off as three more people approached her stand. The bounty, based on these interactions and the interactions Mando received when questioning her whereabouts on the way over, didn't seem like a threat. It seemed everyone liked her. But that could be said about plenty of other bounties Mando had in the past.
Once at the table, Mando watched as the customers' eyes glanced from the woman to him, their faces faltering a little from a smile to a look of shock, a common expression he received most of the time when traveling to planets.
He noticed the woman tilt her head a little as she watched her customers' faces. Turning around, the woman's eyes scanned from his chest that was at her eye level all the way up to his head. The woman's look of awe slowly turned into a large smile.
With a light voice the woman greeted, "Hello there!"
