Moonlight and Sunshine
Edward was falling down the mine shaft and felt his back get penetrated by a steel beam. He arched his back at the pain. He screamed but no sound was made. Then he felt himself hit the ground. He sat up quickly, and panted heavily. He looked around, and realized he didn't know where he was. But he wasn't in a mine shaft. He was in a soft bed. The window showed the moonlight in so he could see really well. He looked down at his abdomen. There was nothing protruding out.
"It was a dream," he said. A terrible dream based on a memory. He felt his scar under his t-shirt. He looked around again because he still didn't know where he was. Then, he saw Winry laying next to him in her night gown with the blankets just covering her lower half. She was still sleeping soundly. He moved some hair from her face, and saw the gold band on his finger.
He remembered finally. They were in a hotel room on their honeymoon in Aerugo. He could hear the waves of the ocean nearby. Edward couldn't believe his dream had been so vivid that he forgot about where he was and who he was with.
Edward laid back down despite his racing heart. He took some deep breaths. He turned on his side and faced Winry. The moonlight illuminating her face. She was beautiful sleeping. He was glad that her dreams seemed well. She then moved some, and turned over to that she wasn't facing him anymore.
Edward almost wanted to wake her. He wanted her comfort but he also knew she needed her rest. They had been playing in the sun during their trip, and it had worn both of them out. He snuggled up closer to her, and wrapped his arm around Winry so he was spooning her. Edward finally relaxed, and kissed her shoulder. She stirred a little, and pulled his hand to her mouth and kissed it. They both went to sleep, and had peaceful dreams.
A few hours later, the early morning sun was coming in through the window. Winry woke up with Edward's strong arm wrapped around her. It was tanned from being outside the past few days. She turned over so she could see his face. He had a slight smile. It must be a good dream. Winry loved seeing the morning sunlight on Edward's golden hair. 'I can't believe I get to wake up next to him every day,' she thought to herself.
Edward's eyes opened to see Winry's blue eyes staring at him. She looked a little surprised. "Sorry," she said. "For what?" "You caught me watching you sleep." Edward grinned. "It's fine. I watched you sleep last night so I guess we're equal." "You did?" Winry was surprised. She had slept so soundly that she didn't notice. "Yeah, I had a hard time sleeping so watching you helped me." He closed his eyes and brought her closer to him.
Winry spoke into his chest. "Ed, did you have a bad dream again?" She knew some of the demons that bothered him at night but he still had a hard time opening up. He was like an onion that was slowly being opened layer by layer. "Yeah but it's nothing to worry about. Let's just have a good time while we're here." 'Typical, he's trying to blow it off,' she thought. "What was it about?" Winry asked. She kept her eyes on his chest. If she made eye contact, it would be more difficult for him. Edward groaned and told her about the dream. He had come clean about his scar before they were married so she knew what had happened. "You know you can wake me up if you need to talk about it," she told him. "I know but we were so tired last night. You need your rest. And I don't like to talk about it." Winry wasn't satisfied. "Well you can always snuggle me, just like last night." Edward rubbed his hands on her back. "Ok, I will." And from then on, if Edward needed comfort at night, he would hold his wife close. That way they could both sleep soundly.
