As is true with all things, even the most grand of legisies must end. Monkey D. Luffy's time as the king of the pirates has come to an end, but it was the most grand end in the history of the world.
The straw hats had become the most powerful crew in the world. And due to their small size they were hard to find much less capture. Since he had become the king Luffy had gathered many many alleys, so when the world decided to attack, Luffy had an army prepared to fight back. The grand straw hat fleet answered a non existent call to arms as well as the kuji pirates, the remainders of the whitebeard crew, the red-haired pirates, and surprisingly buggy and his men also showed up to help. Luffy never once asked these people to help, he actually expected to be able to fight on his own, but later he was thankful for the help since the conflict escalated to a point he never expected. A full on war began in the grand line as many couldn't accept the new pirate king. A dangerous and begrudging alliance formed between the marines, the Big mom pirates, the beast pirates, and the Blackbeard pirates. The Marines recruited the likes of doflamingo and allowed him to gather his crew again. The only member of the Marines not actively in the battle was Monkey D. Garp; he had retired from the Marines under the clause of refusing to witness or be a part of the death of another grandson.
Luffy had thought once he became pirate king the world would calm down a little, he never expected this. The war was savage, and claimed the lives of so many people. Luffy wanted to quit many many times, but something kept pushing him forward. The fact he knew if he lost this war all his friends would be hunted and killed. Years passed and the war continued. But something beautiful came from the war. Luffy fell in love. Once in one of the many battles Luffy was separated from most of his crew, his only companion being Robin. They fought through the waves of soldiers protecting each other and bonding. Luffy had ordered Sunny to retreat for the time being and was stranded in enemy territory. After they had finally made it back onto the sunny Robin and Luffy had decided life was too short to not make a move. They fell in love and married. And they produced a single daughter. Her name was Monkey D. Olivia. Luffy had Robin and Olivia removed from active combat leaving her in the amazon lily domain to keep them safe. Once Olivia had reached the age of 2 months conflict reached the shores of the island forcing them to run. Luffy pursued and they were reunited for a week. Before disaster struck.
Big mom, Kaido, Blackbeard, Doflamingo, and the admirals finally cornered Luffy. Alone he would be more than a match for any of them, but together, even the king of the pirates couldn't win. Before the battle had started he had sent Nami away to guid help there. His crew was forced to fend off the combined force of the crews alone as none of their alleys were close enough yet to help. Slowly Luffy was forced to helplessly watch as members of his crew were overwhelmed and killed. Chopper, Saji, Zoro, Franky, Jimbei all of them gone. and Brook was missing. But Robin desperately defended the Sunny alone, as her most precious treasure was still onboard. She fought not just for her husband and king, but for her daughter and her future. Realising his daughter was still onboard the Sunny. Luffy Desperately fought to reach Robin and Olivia, but he was once again forced to watch someone he loved die. Robin stood her body covered in wounds as Donflamingo sent his strings piercing through her body.
The moment he witnessed that, he felt as if time stopped. The love of his life was killed… and the pain he felt from that was worse than anything the Pirate lords and admirals could ever do to him. But even in his grief he knew a single thing, he had to protect his Olivia at any cost.
He let lose every ounce of strength he had and broke away from his battle rushing at Doflamingo and the crew members swarming his ship getting ready to destroy and sink his ship. They didn't even know Olivia existed as it was the most guarded secret the straw hats had. The only people who knew were Shanks, Hanncock, and several of the amazon lillies who cared for the pregnent Robin and baby Olivia. He heard her cry, and saw as the heads snapped around to the cabin Robin and him shared moving forward. He would not let them get to her. Donflamingo barely had time to turn around before Luffy shoved his fist through the pink fur coat wearing man's chest. He used conqueror's Haki falling all of the other crew members near him. He looked down and saw the body of his Robin, then he heard laughter. It was pirate emperors all laughing at him while the admirals remained quite seemingly surprised. Something snapped inside him and with a scream of rage he fell to his knees, the rage soon replaced by grief as he slowly picked up his wife's body and cradled it letting the tears run down his cheeks.
"So the devil child dies…" Kuzan says looking on from the Saber of Xebec "Shame" he says with a sigh. The pirate emperors continued to laugh and Luffy looked up at them and glared.
"YOU ALL WILL PAY!!!" He screams as he rushes into the sky.
Luffy fought with every ounce of strength in his body and the battle that followed was earth shattering and legendary. His opponents all went for the ship hearing the sound of Olivia crying, they knew if they could get to the kid he was protecting they could get him to surrender. Whenever someone got even close to the Sunny he would drive them away. He fought the entire armada and the leaders, keeping them away from his little girl. Blackbeard managed to get on the Sunny and rushed toward the sound of the crying but he never made it as Luffy jumped on his back and snapped his neck. Big mom pulled him from the corpse and the fight continued. Kaido threw Luffy into the Saber of Xebec, destroying the ship. Most of the crew went down with the ship but Kuzan managed to jump off onto an ice platform just in time, deciding he had enough he simply walked away on his ice pathways. Big mom used prometheus to light the Sunny ablaze before lashed out knowing now he had to finish this fight before the ship sank or the fire spread to his daughter's cabin. The admirals went in for the kill together supported by Kaido and Big Mom, the only remaining pirates. Luffy fought bravely and with all his might. And eventually It came down to the strongest Three, Luffy, Kaido, and Sakazuki. The rest are either dead or wounded. That was when the allies of the straw hats appeared, they quickly engaged the enemy armada, as Hanncock, Bartolomeo, and Marco fought against Sakazuki while Shanks engaged Kaido. Luffy was badly hurt and barely able to continue. His alleys told him to run for now and he did. But first he had to rescue his daughter. He ran into her room through the flames and scooped her in a blanket. He took a pack from the floor and flung it over his shoulder before hobbling below deck praying the mini merry was still able to sail.
Once on the mini marry he left the battle grounds as his alleys made a gap for him to escape though. He felt guilty running but he had no strength left to fight, and had to make sure his daughter lived.
It would later be known that both Kaido and Sakazuki, still gravely wounded from their battle with Luffy, fell at the hands of his allies.
Luffy regained consciousness on the Mini marry a day later still tightly holding Olivia in his arms. He needed somewhere safe to bring her. He couldn't bring her to his hometown, the government would know to look there. He couldn't bring her to Amazon lily because their land was invaded that's why Robin ran to him in the first place. He briefly thought of Vivi but that would be too public. He could only think of one place where he could hide her and the world wouldn't look for her, Cocoyasi Village, in east blue. It would take him a while to get there, but luckily the final battle took place near the entrance to the grand line, it would only take a few weeks to get where he needed to go. He was sure he could make it, for his daughter he would cross the world injured or not.
The pack he had brought with him was in case Robin had had to leave with Olivia on short notice, his wife was always prepared like that. In the bag there was food for Olivia, a blanket, a small stuffed lion, one of Robin's journals, a few dippers and a gift Luffy had given her for their anniversary. It was a portrait of the Three of them, Luffy a large grin on his face with his arms tightly holding Robin's waist while she also smiling held the small laughing girl in her arms. Luffy took good care of Olivia on the Ocean, he fed her, rocked her to sleep with lullabies, calmed her when she cried and fended off all the sea monsters they came across. Even though the pain in his body got worse every day he still put her first.
When it stormed he would wrap her in the blankets before putting his own captain's cloak over her then finally shielding the bundle with his own body taking the brunt of the storm. He had no food and barely any sleep yet never once did he complain, nor did he lose faith he would make it to his destination. Finally he could see the Island on the horizon and he couldn't be happier. He had run out of food for Olivia the day before and his pain was at an all time high, his many wounds had festered and become infected but he still pressed on. That evening he landed on a small beach outside of the town and forced himself to stand, he was exhausted, dehydrated, hungry and dieing. But he carried Olivia onto the shore and up a small hill trying to find the town. But in the distance he instead saw a patch of tangerine trees. He remembered that place and though sheer will power made his way towards the small bundle still in his arms.
Nojiko was taking a walk through her tangerine field enjoying the night's cool breeze. Then she heard a snapping of some twigs and quickly turned on her heel utterly surprised by what she saw. She had heard of the War happening in the grand line and hoped Nami was okay, but what she saw here seemed to take away her hope. There stood a much older, taller and muscular man, but she would recognise that man's straw hat anywhere. Pirate King Monkey D. Luffy stood before her, he shook on his feet trying to stay standing as he hobbled towards her, his body covered in festering wounds and his coat in a bundle in his arms.
"Luffy?" she asked shocked , running up to him. As he dropped to his knees. "Luffy what happened!?" she asked frantically. He looked up at her with sadness in his eyes, for the first time since the battle, Luffy finally mourned, for his wife and his friends. He was so dehydrated that no tears fell, only his sobs signaied he was crying.
"We lost." he is barely able to say. At those words he heart sank. She grabbed his shoulders and shook him, which didn't help his condition but she needed to know if he sister was alive.
"Nami! Is Nami Alive. TELL ME IS MY SISTER ALIVE!" she screams. After a moment of heart racing silence Luffy managed to choke out
"Y-yes. I-i think… so" he says as his life started to leave him. Relife filled Nojiko before panic filled her again she let go of him
"W-wait here Luffy I need to go get the doctor!" she yells, turning to leave.
"Wait." she hears him gasp. She turns around and hears a small crying sound. Then she looks more closely at the bundle in his arms. He slightly turned it and she saw the source of the crying. It was a baby. Nojiko gasped and looked at him rushing back over to him.
"Who's ba-" she started before Luffy cut her off.
"Mine… and Robin's." he struggles to say as some of the last moisture in his body falls from his eyes. "Robin… is gone." he weeps.
"Luffy we need to get the doctor now." she says, trying to help him up.
"No time… Nojiko… Listen… to me." he says
"What, what is it?" she asks
"My… my Olivia." he says holding her out slightly. "Please… take her."
"What?"
"Please… Take… take my Olivia." he says, sounding desperate holding her out a little more.
"I-I.." she only stutters. Olivia began to cry and Luffy automatically Pulled her close again and gently despite dying slowly and gently rocked her back to sleep while forcing himself to sing Bink's brew in a lullaby way. She looked up at her father with a tired smile before reaching her hands out to touch his face. He lowered it and smiled as her small hands touched his rough stubble.
"I. Love. You. Olivia." he barely manages to say as the little girl falls asleep. Seeing this was his end He reached out to hand her over to Nojiko once more. The woman realising she had no choice but to take care of the small girl, reached out and grabbed her before Luffy fell on his back. Gasping out his last words.
"Hide. Her. Keep. Her safe. Tell her. I. No. Her mother. and I. love. Her." He says a smile spreading on his face as he thought of his family. "R-r-Robin…." he gently said as his final breath left him. That day in that Tangerine feild Monkey D. Luffy, Captain of the Thousand Sunny and King of the pirates died. He left behind a single child, his only daughter Monkey D. Olivia. Like him Her mother once known as Nicco Robin then Monkey D. Robin also died. And she was thus left in the care of Nojiko, sister to Nami.
