Hello anyone who has stumbled upon this work! This is my first journey into writing fiction in…a long time. So, with that being said, I hope this doesn't suck! I have been focusing on school writing for the better part of a decade, so the transition back into this world was a bit of a time. I know these games are like ten years old and the fandom is rather fleeting, but I still find myself thinking of these games and this pairing sometimes. I absolutely love these two characters and wished there were more fanfic content about them out there. Then I realized that I like to write, so I can help fix that! And the smaller size of this fandom made my return to fic writing rather low-stakes. If anyone happens to read this, please tell me what you think! Constructive criticism is always appreciated! I don't own WKC or these characters, just the words that I've strung together in my brainplace.
A Home At Last
With her hand in Caesar's, Kara stepped off the train with him and began to walk toward the Drisdall Mansion-it all happened so fast, it almost didn't feel real to her. Merely a few days earlier, she and Caesar were finally reunited after a year of her atoning for her sins as General Scardigne, and Caesar busy ruling Greede, still believing her to be dead. After explaining her return at the hands of Father Yggdra, she and Caesar shared a tender moonlight embrace in the Balandor Castle gardens. It was a rare moment of bliss and peace for both of them, the reunion of a love once believed to be lost forever. Kara will never forget how Caesar welcomed him into her arms that night and kissed the top of her head as she rested it on his shoulder. The two stood there in contentment for a while, simply enjoying each other's presence.
After the grueling final battle had been fought and finally won, it just seemed natural for Kara to return to Greede with Caesar-and she can't say any of their companions were surprised either. Having gone on adventures with the pair, Leonard, Yulie, and Eldore knew full well how deep the bond was between Kara and Caesar, and how deeply they cared for each other (not that Kara would have even admitted it to herself in the earlier days of their adventures when the Magi had been manipulating her against her will). Kara was even sure she overheard Yulie and Leonard making bets on how long it would be until they got married when Caesar and Kara departed for Greede after their victory. She never wanted to be separated from Caesar again, and she knew he felt the same when that night in the garden he had told her he never wanted to let her go again and asked her to come back to Greede to live with him after they won the war.
Kara just never expected they would get this far. They all not only made it out of that battle alive and victorious, but it meant Kara and Caesar got something they both never thought they would-they got to build a life together. Caesar was all smiles when he took her hand and led her off the train. She couldn't blame him, they both finally got to be happy. Kara couldn't remember ever being this happy. But as she let Caesar guide her to the Drisdall Mansion, the feeling began to overwhelm her. The couple was eagerly greeted by the staff of House Drisdall, with Amir eagerly running up to hug Caesar, causing the young Count to let go of Kara's hand as she watched, thoroughly amused at the sight. Caesar recounted their victory to his staff, to which the Steward replied, "What a huge relief that you emerged victorious and are home safe and sound. Welcome back, Lord Caesar, Lady Kara." "Lady Kara...is this even real life?" Kara had thought. Before she even had time to process that she was just called the Lady to Caesar's Lordship, Caesar was grinning widely as he took her hand once again and led her through the gates of the Drisdall Mansion.
As the couple approached the mansion, the doors were opened for them, only for Caesar to stop her before she could walk in. Kara giggled happily as Caesar, being as cheesy as he always is, scooped her up bridal style and carried her across the threshold. Kara could never remember feeling so light and content in her life. Once they were well into the mansion's large foyer, Caesar gently set her down, sighed contentedly, and took her hands in his. With an affectionate tone to match how he was staring into her violet eyes, Caesar squeezed her hands and said, "Welcome home, Kara." This moment overwhelmed Kara as she gazed back at Caesar; all the pain and hardship she had endured in her life and the road to redemption she had been on led her to this moment. For the first time Kara had a home, a home she got to build with the man she loves. Overflowing with pure happiness she never thought she would be so lucky to experience, happy tears flowed from Kara's eyes as Caesar tenderly wiped them away. Kara returned his affectionate gaze and lovingly cupped his cheek. "Home," she whispered so that only they could hear, "I have a home...with you."
To say Kara wasn't used to these affections was an understatement. When she had been indoctrinated into the Magi, she was brainwashed and manipulated by Grazel into believing that she was an outcast because of her powers and because of that no one could ever love her. Caesar, however, had seen right through this into her soul; he could always see who she really was-a kind-hearted and terrified woman who sought a life of belonging. It was he who played a major role in undoing this mental manipulation Kara was under. It was Caesar who showed her that she was loved and cared for; that she was already loved by him and had friends in Yulie, Leonard, and Eldore who were fond of their traveling companion. Kara had to pay the ultimate price for this realization, of course, realizing that Caesar truly did love her and dying in his arms at the Dogma Temple before she could finally admit it to him-and herself.
Realizing that she had been lost in her thoughts for a moment, Kara noted Caesar's gaze had turned into a look of concern. Never wanting to endure the pain and torment of being unable to show her feelings for Caesar-much less acknowledge them-again, Kara did the only thing that felt right in that moment. She gazed back into Caesar's gold eyes for a moment before she pulled him into a warm kiss. She could tell Caesar was surprised for a moment before he had put his arms around her waist, pulling her in closer and kissing her back. Kara couldn't tell how long she wanted to kiss Caesar, but while she wouldn't have admitted it, that desire had been there since the beginnings of their heated relationship during their first adventure. She put all of the things she couldn't say before into this kiss and judging by the way Caesar was kissing her back, so was he.
When the two finally pulled away from their passionate kiss, Caesar's arms were still around her, holding her close. Caesar was smiling, and Kara's violet eyes were once again gazing affectionately into his golden ones. She was so happy. "I love you," she confessed in a soft, warm tone. It felt incredible for her to finally be able to say it. Caesar lit up at this unexpected declaration, with happy tears threatening to fall from his eyes. Kara imagined this was quite a moment for him too. Keeping one hand around her waist, Caesar brought the other one up to caress her cheek, carefully brushing a strand of hair from her face. Looking into her violet eyes, Caesar responded, "I love you too, Kara. Always have. Always will." Right after he finished his own declaration of love, Kara found Caesar's lips on hers once again as he pulled her back into a brief but loving kiss. When they pulled away, Caesar flashed his trademark smirk at her, offering his arm to her and saying, "Well then, let's get you settled into our home, shall we?" Kara took his arm and they ascended the mansion's staircase.
Having only stayed at the mansion once during their first adventure, Kara did not know the lay of the land very well. Caesar showed her around the mansion, her new home-their home-making sure Kara was comfortable. He was incredibly caring and considerate, as always. Her favorite spot of the tour by far was the beautiful gardens, and she just knew that was going to be one of her favorite places to spend time. Perhaps it was her year disguised in Faria that gave Kara a new appreciation for the world around her. As the tour was winding down, it was getting quite late, and the pair was already exhausted from the events they had just endured. Finally earning some respite, Caesar led her down the hallway and stopped in front of his bedroom door.
Kara detected a shift in tone from his usual laid-back demeanor to a bit of nervousness. Caesar could read her like a book, sure, but Caesar was also her best friend as well as the love of her life-She could read him pretty well, too. Yawning and noting the late hour, Caesar then noted, "As you probably remember, this is where I get my beauty sleep. If you want, you can have any of the other rooms…" He then timidly continued, "Or you could sleep here...with me." The last part of his sentence came out in such a shy, hushed tone that Kara couldn't help but smile at him and this bashful side of Caesar that only she got to see. He genuinely wanted to make sure Kara felt comfortable and at home and didn't want to push her into anything. Kara found it very endearing. Thankful that she was with such a kind and caring man, Kara appeased his anxiousness about their sleeping arrangements by chuckling, kissing his cheek, and saying, "Why wouldn't I want to sleep by your side, silly?" Looking relieved, Caesar grinned at her before taking her hand and leading them into their room.
Crossing the threshold of the bedroom, Caesar led Kara inside and smiled at her, saying "Well my dear, are you ready for bed?" Kara replied with a "Yes, I believe I am." She sat on the edge of the bed and began unlacing her long boots-it was quite a process. Sensing this struggle, Caesar came over and started carefully unlacing her boots for her. Gently slipping them off, Caesar set them down on the ground at the foot of the bed before he turned his attention to Kara trying to undo the other set of laces on her corset. Grabbing her hands, he brought them to his lips before whispering, "Allow me," and tenderly untied and removed her corset. Kara sighed in contentment and proceeded to undo the rest of her garments until she was standing in front of Caesar in nothing but her undergarments. She had never been so vulnerable with anyone before and noted how easy it came with Caesar. She slid into bed under the silky golden covers and waited for Caesar to join her after he was in the same state of undress.
Caesar slid under the covers into the opposite side of the bed. It felt like there was a world of sheets and pillows in between them, and Kara didn't know if she should stay put or move closer to him. She didn't even know why she was having this internal debate, but it appeared that, as usual, Caesar could tell something was up when she felt him looking over at her. When her gaze met his, he smiled affectionately, opened his arms to her, and said softly "Kara, come here." She had slid over into his arms before he could even finish speaking. Kara rested her head on Caesar's chest and put her arm around him, her leg draped over the bottom half of his torso. Caesar wrapped both his arms around Kara and kissed her head tenderly. Caesar chuckled, and Kara moved her head to look up at him, wondering what classic antics he was about to get up to. Seeing her inquisitive look, Caesar boldly said, "Joke's on you for actually scooting over here, Kara. Because I'm never letting you go again."
Smiling at him and to herself at his mushy antics that he always seems to get into around him, Kara sank further into his arms and sighed in contentment. She had never felt so safe, happy, and comfortable. It felt as if she was where she was meant to be-it felt right. Lifting her head up one more time to plant a kiss on Caesar's cheek before resting it back on his bare chest, she whispered, "Goodnight, my love," before drifting off. Caesar replied with a "Goodnight, Kara. I love you," before sleep claimed him as well. The couple embarked on the first night of the rest of their lives together, falling asleep in a lovers' embrace, never daring to let each other go. For both of them, it was the best sleep they could recall having in over a year.
And that was all she wrote…for now! I have ideas swirling around in my noggin for a chapter from Caesar's POV. I might mess around and write it anyway just for writing's sake. I hope this wasn't too cheesy! I kinda hated how abrupt the ending to WKC2 was, and while I was delighted to see these two returning home together, I always wanted a glimpse into what their life together would look like. Which I guess is what fanfic is for! Anyway, peace out!
