I don't care if this isn't realistic. It's how I want it to go. So deel with it.
He didn't really know what his class thought of him. Maybe they thought he was antisocial, or that he thought he was too cool for them. He wouldn't blame them if they thought those things. After all, he was somewhat antisocial, not that it was his fault.
But still, he knew he could try making more of an effort, but what was the point? Everyone ended up betraying him eventually. First his father, then his mother, and then his older brother.
Though, Touya leaving really wasn't something Shoto could blame his brother for. It was just the fact that Touya had promised to never leave him. And when Touya had left, a large part of Shoto's already split heart left too.
He didn't know how to act around people, how to laugh and cry, when he had always been told that it was a weakness to have or show emotions. He knew he'd gotten a little better over time.
After his fight with Midoriya, he had forgiven his mother. But that didn't erase the fact that she had left him to. Even though, once again, that wasn't her fault. It was all Endeavor's fault. Everything bad that had happened was his father's fault. Sure, Shoto had interned with his father.
But only because he acknowledged that his father was strong, not in the way that really mattered, but whatever.
And then the Stain incident had made him grow closer to Midoriya and Iida, and then the ruined summer vacation…
But still, after a year of being with his class, he still couldn't be like them. He didn't have Midoriya's upbeat personality, or even Bakugou's questionable temperament.
He didn't know how to act around people, because the only people his father had ever allowed him to see was.. well, no one.
He didn't even let Shoto hang out with Natsou or Fuyumi when he was younger. It was always training, training and more training.
Shoto remembered feeling completely trapped, sometimes Endeavor had even kept him up all night. He remembered the pain clearly, the feeling of fire scorching him.
At least when Touya was around Shoto had someone to protect him. His older brother had always been rebellious, always stood up to defend his younger siblings. Then, on Shoto's eleventh birthday, Touya had come into his room and given him a hug.
Shoto would have clung to him longer if he'd known that was the last time he'd ever see his eldest sibling. He wished Touya had taken him with him when he left, but he knew that wasn't fair.
Touya had been sixteen at the time, but his quirk had been a disaster. His quirk had caused him immense pain, it had burned him. Shoto's fire side had always been leveled out by his ice, and his fire wasn't as hot as Touya's had been.
He highly doubted Touya was even still alive. Shoto glanced down at his desk, that way his classmates and Aizawa couldn't see his glistening eyes.
He nearly jumped as his phone rang, earning Shoto an irritated glare from his teacher. Shoto pursed his lips and reached into his pocket, pulling out his phone to see who was calling him.
It was Natsou, huh, odd. ".. Can I answer this?" The youngest Todoroki asked his teacher, who glared at him.
"Yes, but it has to be on speaker." Aizawa said, and Shoto sighed. He should have just declined the call. But it might be important, and he didn't feel like explaining why he hadn't answered to his older brother.
He ignored the questioning looks from his classmates, and clicked accept on his phone, and turned it to speaker. Immediately, Natsou's voice flooded through the phone.
"Dude, what took you so long? I mean, rude. What if I had been dying, huh? Just gonna wait till the last second to answer." His older brother said in an annoyingly cheerful voice.
Shoto could practically feel his classmates surprise at how the speaker was talking. They had probably thought whoever was calling Shoto would be like, a police officer, or some other important person.
"Natsou, I'm in class right now. What do you want?" Shoto said shortly, then winced, his brother wouldn't take that response well.
"Ouch, where's the 'Hello, dearest sibling, how have you been lately?' No, instead I get a rude 'What do you want?'." Natsou said happily, and Shoto groaned lightly.
"You're on speaker." He said shortly, trying to ignore his classmates gawking faces.
"He has siblings?" Whispered Denki, annoyingly loud.
"Huh? Why." Natsou asked, and Shoto could imagine his face at the moment. He'd never gotten to spend much time with Natsou, but after Touya had left, he had made an effort to help Shoto. Mostly by bandaging him up and trying to say encouraging things.
"My teacher told me that if I answered, it had to be on speaker." Shoto informed his brother.
"Hello Shoto's class!" Natsou practically yelled, and Shoto could see the shock on his classmates faces. He could practically hear them thinking, 'How on earth is this Shoto Todoroki, the aloof, quiet kid's brother?'.
"Er, hello other Todoroki." Mina said, then furrowed her eyebrows. "That sounded weird."
Natsou's laugh could be heard over the phone line. "So.. is my baby brother behaving himself? Not causing trouble is he?"
Snickers went up around the class as Shoto facepalmed. "Natsou!" He exclaimed, then took a calming breath.
"Seriously though, do you need anything?"
"Ehh, no. Well- kinda, I was wondering if you were going to be home this weekend?" His brother's voice held a tentative question in it.
Shoto sighed, spending time with Endeavor had never been his favorite pastime.
"Yes. Why?" Shoto answered, his voice emotionless.
"Er- Yumi wanted to have a 'family' dinner. And so I'm back at the house for the weekend." Natsou informed him, Shoto was pretty sure this was his brother trying to reach out to him.
Shoto tried not to glance at his classmates, surly they had heard the scoffing tone Natsou had used when he said 'family'.
"Oh- okay. See you then." Shoto said and Natsou sighed over the phone. And if Natsou hadn't known he was on speaker, he would probably be telling Shoto to show some emotion.
"See ya little bro!" Natsou exclaimed, and Shoto could tell he was trying to act happy, even though he wasn't.
Each of Shoto's siblings had reacted differently to their situation. Fuyumi had reacted with care, and gentleness, always trying to find the good in the sea of bad. But Shoto could still remember hearing her sobs as Mother was sent away.
Natsou reacted with humor, and sarcasm. Trying to block off his emotions, trying not to show his guilt that he couldn't be like Touya.
And Touya had reacted with a furious protective instinct, always stepping forward to protect his siblings and Mother- no matter the cost. He had been kind and caring to Shoto, Natsou and Fuyumi. He had been the one bright spot in Shoto's life, until he left. Because all flames faded with time.
And Shoto had reacted with cold indifference, blocking off his emotions completely. It had been bad before Touya left, but Shoto knew it had only gotten worse with time. He had been blinded by a strong hate of his Father, making him distant and cold to his classmates.
"Bye." Shoto murmured into the phone, ending the call and slipping it back into his pocket.
".. I didn't know you had siblings." Momo said tentatively after a moment of silence, Shoto just shrugged.
Aizawa ended up letting the class have Friday off due to hero business. So Class A1 was going to the mall. And Shoto didn't really know what had happened, but somehow he had ended up being dragged along with them. Midoriya and Iida were sitting by him, talking happily.
Shoto and his class were currently sitting outside of the mall, in a large dining area. It was rather pretty, the trees swishing in the wind. But he didn't really care, so..
Mina and Ochako were gossiping loudly, Bakugou, Kirishima, Sero and Denki were taking turns arm wrestling. Bakugou freaked out whenever he came close to losing. It was rather amusing. Momo was sitting besides Shoto, munching on a sandwich.
Everything was calm, but since Shoto's class was prone to disastrous events, everything went up in flames.
Not just any flames though, icy blue ones. The trademark of the Villain Dabi, one of the members of the League of Villains.
Shoto immediately jumped up, as did his classmates, excluding Mineta, who was cowering behind Ashido.
The flames had been placed deliberately, they had blocked Class A1 off from everyone else, all the civilians were thankfully not trapped with them.
Shoto's eyes scanned the area, and he nearly jumped when suddenly a large warp gate opened up, and the League came through it.
Kirishima and Bakugou were standing side by side, Denki and Sero standing side by side only a few feet behind them.
"What do you want?" Shoto asked calmly, tensing his muscles as Dabi eyed him with cold, blue eyes. So like Endeavors.
Shigaraki smirked, and everything went into chaos. Somehow Shoto ended up facing Twice, who was annoyingly managing to dodge everything Shoto through at him. Shoto watched with slotted multi- colored eyes as the Villain leapt out of the way of a large chunk of ice.
Shoto shot a stream of fire at the Villain, desperately hoping the Pro Heroes would hurry up.
Shoto's attention was yanked away from Twice by Momo's startled yelp of surprise. He glanced over and found her being cornered by Dabi, only a short distance away from himself.
He was about to hurry to her aid, when he realized the Villain wasn't actually trying to harm her, just forcing her to back up by shooting small tendrils of blue flame at her. Deliberately missing.
Shoto turned his attention back to Twice, who was edging towards him, and making a clone of Shigaraki. Darn it. They did not need another handy man around.
Maybe I should challenge Shigarki, Shoto thought with grim amusement, I am the hand crusher after all.
"Todoroki!" The warning comes too late, and Shoto's eyes widen at the large man wielding a blade. Coming right towards him. Shoto tries to move, he really does, but he can't.
Everything had paused, even the Villains had stopped in their tracks wide eyed. Though Shoto realizes they aren't looking at him…
The Villains eyes were fixed on Dabi, who was dashing towards Shoto and the man with the blade.
Shoto doesn't know what's going on, Dabi's probably coming over to ensure he dies. Shoto then realizes why he can't move. The man coming at him with a blade reminded him of Endeavor.
And that's why he froze, years of training, years of obeying his Father's every word. Wishing Touya was there to save him, but he wasn't. And Touya wasn't going to save Shoto now. Because he was gone.
Why did that still sting so much?
The blade was only inches away, and it really seemed like time had slowed down. Just before the blade pierced his chest Dabi knocked the man to the side.
Shoto's shock seemed to be mirrored in everyone in the arena, the Villains and aspiring Heroes alike.
Why had he done that? What on earth had Dabi just saved Shoto's life?
Dabi stood up slowing from where he was perched on the other Villain he had just taken out.
Dabi seemed slightly shocked by his own actions, the baffled, confused Villains eyes were locked on the scarred man.
Shoto's eyes were also locked on him, why did he seem so familiar, yet so strange? Why did this situation seem familiar?
"Dabi? What are you doing!?" Shigarki exclaimed, the fight on a stand still. Dabi let out an odd growling sound as his fellow Villain stepped forward.
"Don't touch him." The Villain growled, gesturing towards Shoto, who was just staring dumbly.
Shigarki hissed in frustration, taking a step forward. Shoto glanced around to see that his classmates were on one side of the circle Dabi had made, and the Villains on the other.
Dabi and Shoto seemed to be in the middle, the Villain standing in front of Shoto in a weirdly protective way. What was going on? Why was the Villain acting like this? Shouldn't he have been happy to let Shoto die?
"What's wrong with you? We've been trying to kill that one for months!" Exclaimed Shigarki in fury. Shoto knew he should be moving, taking down Dabi or something. But he was still frozen, and attacking Dabi after that would be… weird. And kinda heartless. Also, he wanted to see how this would play out.
And Dabi made him feel.. oddly safe. Something Shoto couldn't remember feeling since Touya had left. He winced. Why on earth did this, this Villain. Make him feel safe? The man in front of him had murdered people.
So why did he remind him of Touya so much.
Dabi's cold response to Shigarki ripped him from his thoughts. "You never mentioned killing him to me." Dabi snarled out, now Shoto was really confused. Did he know Dabi somehow? No, he would remember actually knowing this Villain..
"I didn't think it'd matter!" Shigarki screamed, throwing his arms out in raged indignation.
Dabi turned a little, his icy blue eyes met Shoto's multi- colored one. And something in Shoto clicked. Those eyes..
Suddenly it wasn't Dabi, the highly dangerous Villain standing in front of him, but Touya. Protecting him from danger, again. Because that's what Touya had always done, no matter the cost he had to pay. Touya who was dead. Who had disappeared and never been seen or heard from again. Touya who had held him as he cried as a child. Touya who had made him laugh when he felt like dying. The Touya who had never failed to protect Shoto as a child, had come back to save him again. No matter how messed up the situation was.
He could see the similarities too, the way Dabi held himself. How everything the Villain did always reflected bad on Endeavour. His strange hatred of the number one hero. It all made sense, Dabi's burns, from using his quirk.
So as Dabi and Shoto's eyes locked, a million unspoken words were said. And Shoto could tell that no matter what his brother had done, it had all been for him. He remembered Touya telling him that one day they'd be free. Even if he had to die for it.
The lunatical eyes of Dabi seemed to be replaced by Touya's eyes. Hatred replaced with love. Coldness with warmth.
It also made sense as to why Dabi had never actually seriously hurt any of Shoto's classmates. He may have given one a small burn or two, but besides that, he hadn't actually really hurt anyone.
And it didn't matter what Dabi had done, no crime really mattered in Shoto's eyes anymore. Shoto knew what Dabi had done was wrong, but he also knew, due to his older brother's upbringing, he would be excused to some extent. Maybe have to spend a year in a mental hospital. But Shoto didn't care, he loved Touya, and if Touya was Dabi, then he loved Dabi too. And it was now glaringly obvious that Dabi was Touya, or Touya was Dabi. How had Shoto been so blind?
"Touya." Shoto whispered, and the scarred Villain gave him a small, tired smile. Like when they were kids. The Villain looked a little bashful, but he opened up his arms a little, inviting Shoto to come closer. He looked kind of like someone trying to tame a wild animal, that might bite.
But Touya's invitation was enough for Shoto, and he dashed towards the Villain. Ignoring the cries of shock from his classmates. They were probably so confused. And The League of Villains stifles gasps of shock. But Touya looked like he used to, in a way, his eyes warm.
Touya caught him as he launched himself at the Villain, carefully hugging him tight. "Hey, little bro." The Villain whispered softly. And Shoto felt all of his walls breaking down, and he went limp in his older brother's arms. How many nights had he spent crying, wishing Touya was there to help him? It was sad, but heartwarming in a way, that his brother had spent years trying to take down Endeavour. Just to protect Shoto, Fuyumi and Natsou. And while Shoto loved his other two siblings, he'd always felt closest to Touya.
"What the heck are you doing, Icyhot?!" Screeched Bakugou, and Shoto could imagine his infuriated face. Well, Shoto would have a lot to explain. Really, this was a mess.
Touya snickered, and Shoto just grinned a little, burying his face in his brother's scarred neck. "Icyhot, huh. Brat fits you better, though." The eldest Todoroki sibling whispered, with amusement in his voice. Shoto just flicked his brother lightly on the back.
Meanwhile…
Izuku stared wide eyed as the most closed off, aloof kid in the class embraced a Villain. A Villain who had just randomly saved Todoroki. Without any visible reason to do so. And now everything was very confusing, and all of Class 1A and the Villains were standing around like idiots. Staring dumbly as a highly dangerous criminal hugged a soon to be hero.
The scene was beyond weird. And Izuku had seen Todoroki's face before he leapt as Dabi, he had looked awe struck, and very unlike the Todoroki Izuku knew. Had he been brainwashed? Could Dabi do that?
Todoroki had always seemed to be very serious about his hero work, and had never shown any signs of villancy.
Izuku, watched the shock on The Leagues' faces. Obviously, they hadn't seen this coming either.
Everything was tense and quite, the blue flames blocking off the sky, and any help from coming.
Everything was so quiet, Izuku could've sworn he could hear the wind gently moving the leaves on the trees.
So, everyone could hear Dabi speak to Todoroki. His voice soft, and kind, so unlike the Villain Izuku knew him to be. What was going on?
"I can still do it." He said, and Todoroki shook his head against the Villain's neck.
"No. Don't." Todoroki's voice was soft, different from how Izuku could ever remember hearing it. He seemed like a heavy burden had been lifted from his shoulders, and he could finally breathe again.
Dabi tilted his head a little, which was resting on Todoroki's head, as the two embraced. Yes, embraced, are you getting the lunacy of that?
"Why? I can fix everything." The Villain said, honest confusion in his voice. Izuku was so confused, but all he could was just stand, his confusion enveloping him. He glanced at Iida, who had been fighting next to him. Iida just shrugged, but Izuku could tell that his friend's instinct to never disobey a rule was kicking in. Obviously, he had strong feelings about Todoroki hugging a highly wanted Villain.
Izuku knew there must be a story behind this, most likely something to do with Todoroki's childhood. From what the aloof teenager had told him, it wasn't a pleasant time in the Todoroki house.
"He's getting better, he even cooked dinner the other night." Todoroki said softly, and now Izuku was too curious to move. The Villains and his classmates seemed to feel the same. And it seemed as if Todoroki and Dabi had both forgotten they had an audience.
Dabi scoffed a little at that. "Great, Endeavour cooked dinner, and Rei cooked your face." Izuku's eyes widened at that. How on earth did the Villain even know that about Todoroki, and how would Todoroki respond to that?
Izuku could hear the quiet gasps going up around him as the class took that in. Todoroki apparently hadn't told anyone besides him what had happened. And Izuku didn't exactly know many details.
But still that seemed like a pretty offensive thing to say, and speaking of offensive, why was Kacchan being so quiet?
Meanwhile..
Shoto couldn't help but snicker a little at his brother's comment, no matter how messed up it was. He'd really missed his brother's sarcasm. He just hugged Touya harder after his comment, and Touya pulled him closer. The years they'd been apart seemed to melt away, and Shoto was just a little kid again, seeking his brother's comfort. And as always, Touya offered it graciously. Shoto only wished he'd been able to save his brother, wished he'd been old enough to hold his brother when he'd needed it most.
"Just.." Shoto trailed off, he'd never been great with words. But he knew his brother could read him like a book, no matter how many years had passed. And Shoto only truly wanted one thing. So he forced the word out, no matter how great the fear of a refusal was. Even though he knew Touya would do what he asked, it didn't matter how much his brother might want to keep up his cause. "You've done enough, you can stop now." Rests you can rest. "Don't go away again." Please, don't leave. "Just… Stay." Shoto said, clenching his fists, and burying his face deeper into his brother's neck. He couldn't bear to look at him, not after he'd made a request like that.
Touya's arms tighten around him, and he felt his brother bury his face in Shoto's multi- colored hair. "Okay. If that's what you want." Touya said simply, and Shoto could see the flames disappear from the corner of his eyes.
After so many years of pain, his brother had returned. To save him, and Fuyumi and Natsou. And Shoto couldn't be happier. He knew Touya's disappearance had been the cause of Shoto's silence. The reason he could never open up. Because the one person he had opened up to, had left. Without a trace. And Shoto hadn't understood. But now he did, Touya had left on a mission to become stronger than Father. So he could save his younger siblings. Because that's what Touya had always done.
