Sometimes she needs warm sunlight to make the cold that enters into her bones disappear or at least dissipate a little, and sometimes she needs Zen's hand in hers. And sometimes she needs a smile from him that is brighter than even the sun could hope for, and sometimes all she longs for is for him to lean down and leave a kiss upon her forehead, remind her that everything's alright.
It's when the distance grows the longest that she needs Zen by her side the most. It isn't impossible to love him despite whatever distance holds them far apart, and it isn't impossible to keep hope up with perseverance.
But that doesn't keep longing at bay, doesn't stop her from wishing that Zen was here. She could wrap a warm scarf around his neck, just well enough to keep the cold away. She could reach out one gloved hand to hold his gloved hand as they walked amid the snow. Or they could sip tea on cold nights and laugh over the silliest memories and jokes that come to mind.
There is so much to do in the cold when someone you love is close, and yet it's hard sometimes when he's somewhere much warmer, and she's in a place that gets so cold, especially without him by her side.
Shirayuki wishes more often than she means to, that Zen would come to stand by her side, and Lyrias would no longer feel so cold.
